Якщо говорити про рівень емоцій одним реченням, то при першому прочитанні «Орлів Риму», в мене від захвату мало булька з носу не вискакувала, щоразу, як я перегортав сторінку.

Це надзвичайно видовищний, масштабний та прекрасний у всій своїй римській епічності та пафосі твір. Легендарному Енріко Маріні вдалося створити дивовижну історію, де майстерно поєднано різноманітні історичні персоналії з цілком вигаданими персонажами. Де пошановувачі серіалів «Рим» та «Спартак: Кров і пісок» нарешті потішать свої інстинкти та задовольнять потребу в крові, відрубаних головах, розкиданих тельбухах і звісно ж сексі та оргіях. Автор, традиційно для європейської школи, гранично відвертий та прискіпливий у змальовуванні подробиць, щоб то не було, панель де зображено годування коней, масштабна битва чи то коїтус. Все змальовано настільки органічно і доладно, що не викликає жодних питань щодо відвертості сцен, це вам не сучасний масмаркет. Ба більше, Маріні щільно притримується історичності, коли мова йде про предмети побуту, одягу, зброї, соціального та політичного устроїв.

Моя б воля, то я б завзято рекомендував «Орлів Риму» на позакласне читання з історії Древнього Риму. Я впевнений, що середньостатистична 12-ти річка, після прочитання циклу «Орли Риму» почувши «Quintili Vare, legiones redde!» не сахалися б, як чорт від ладану, а з задоволенням би розповіли, що таке сестерцій, чим відрізняється центуріон від префекта, що таке дефлорація та чому проституток у Римі називали “вовчицями”.

Наразі я в свою вечірню молитву додам пункт, де проситиму богів, космос, пекло, вранішній йогурт най дасть сил та грошей видавництву ДІПА видати наступні чотири томи в найближчий рік-два. Насамкінець порада, коли підете замовляти «Орлів Риму» зверніть увагу на ще один тайтл цього ж таки видавництва тритомник «Катанга». Це, суб’єктивно, найліпше bande dessinee повністю видане українською з наразі доступних. А ще про Катангу і Орлів Риму ніхто ніколи не скаже, що вони [комікси] для дітей.

This graphic novel tells the story of a young Arminius in training and how a friendship develops between him and the son of his trainer. The interactions between the two characters have a lot of tension, especially at first, so it's fun to read when thy are together. As students of history know, Arminius is destined to cause a lot of trouble for Rome, so it will be interesting to see how this story will develop in the future.

One point that I didn't particularly care for is that there are several sex scenes that seem to be put in just to show the sex, so the story slowed down quite a bit during those scenes. To make a comparison, I got a similar vibe from the Game of Thrones TV show in that regard. If you don't mind that, you'll probably rate this higher than I did.

Із художником й сценаристом Енріке Маріні вперше зустрівся у коміксі «Batman: The Dark Prince Charming», де історія була простенькою, але малюнок сильно відрізнявся поміж усіх інших у жанрі. У бд «Орли Риму» він теж займався сценарієм і малюнком.

Римська імперія перебуває у періоді розширення території, і її боротьба проти варварських народів не припиняється. Настільки, що їх звели до простих васалів. У цьому контексті двом юним хлопцям, один з яких син варварів Арміній залишився заручником у сім'ї Валеріїв, а інший - плід єднання римського героя та жінки-варварки Тит Валерій, доведеться навчитися жити разом і воювати разом.

Як бачите, зав’язка не є оригінальною і я бачив таке вже десятки разів у літературі чи кінематографі. Але те, як Маріні все подає нам із боку розповіді та малюнку чи не відразу змушує перегортати сторінки із захопленням. Перший альбом більше про хлопців і їхні стосунки, аніж про історію. Але цього цілком достатньо.

Відверто. Жорстоко. Потужно. Дайте ще!

In Ancient Rome, during the time of Julius Ceaser’s global conquest attempts. A young barbarian prince is offered to Rome as part of a treaty, where he is put under the tutelage of an accomplished Roman general.

The boy and the general’s son undergo severe training at the hands of the general to become Legionaries in the Roman army. They bond, forming a close brotherly relationship, but are destined to become enemies due to a prophecy about the boy uniting the barbarian tribes and freeing his people from their Roman oppressors.

This has most of what we've come to expect from Roman-themed media, war, politics, drama, and lots of nudity and sex. Nonetheless, it’s a well-written, fast-paced story that was very easy to read and quite enjoyable. The art was honestly kind of lacking luster but good enough not to be a nuisance, making this a 3.5-star read. Very interesting story though, and I’ll be continuing the series.

I love the history of the old Roman and Greek empires and I've been wanting to get more into french-belgium comics for a while, so what better way to do it than with a story in the ancient roman empire?

This is very different from what I'm use to read. There is no mind-blowing events or major epic battles bigger than life. It's just a down to earth story that could have happened in old times (and maybe it did).

The art is very pleasing and the writing is consistent through the book. While there are no spikes of excitement, the narrative is very pleasing and keeps you wanting to flip the pages.

Interested to see where this is going.

El Imperio Romano se encuentra en plena expansión y su lucha contra los pueblos bárbaros no cesa. Tanto es así que éstos han sido reducidos a simples vasallos. En este contexto, dos jóvenes, uno hijo de bárbaros dejado como rehén y otro fruto de la unión de un héroe romano y una mujer bárbara tendrán que aprender a convivir y a luchar juntos. Poco a poco se irán forjando lazos de amistad entre ambos.

Primer tomo de esta serie ambientada en la antigua Roma. La verdad que me ha gustado mucho la historia. Es muy entretenida y bastante adictiva. Los dibujos son dignos de mención. Me han parecido muy nítidos y con colores muy llamativos.

En este primer volumen nos presentan a los personajes y no ahonda demasiado en la trama, pero de momento la historia pinta muy bien.

De momento tenemos la historia de dos jóvenes, un joven bárbaro dejado como rehén a causa de un tratado con roma y el hijo de un anciano héroe de guerra que son educados por el padre del último con todo el rigor de la antigua roma.

Este Álbum es un poco de sentar bases y dar trasfondo a los personajes para lo que parece que será una historia de largo recorrido... de momento tiene muy buena pinta, la historia es entretenida y el dibujo es excelente.

Tak tohle je libové! Tohle období dějin mě celkově tak nějak fascinuje, a číst příběh, který vede k bitvě v Teutoburském lese, to je žůžo labůžo. Orlové Říma jsou naprosto mistrovsky vyprávění a nakreslení. Ačkoliv (nebo právě protože) se to téměř celé odehrává v Římě a skoro pořád se tam žvaní a souloží, tak to má neuvěřitelnou atmosféru a pořád mě to udržovalo v napětí. Stejně jako u všech dobrých historických knih a komiksů jsem si i tady neustále dohledával historické detaily na internetu a vůbec jsem si to celé užíval. Občas mě jen mrzely velké skoky v čase, protože trávit čas s Arminiem a Marcusem je prostě zábava. Ale chápu, že je potřeba udržovat nějaké tempo vyprávění a celý příběh se musí vejít do únosného počtu alb.

Jak už jsem zmínil, tak skvělá je i kresba. Enrica Mariniho jsem si oblíbil už v jeho Batmanovi a i tady dokazuje, že prostě umí. Jeho kresba je krásně dynamická, detailní a má úžasný koloring. Celkově ta kresba vypadá hodně živě a nechává to čtenáře si to vyprávění naplno užít. Na obrazovce to nevynikne tak jako na v knize na papíru. Tohle prostě musíte vidět naživo. A já zase nutně potřebuji pokračování!

Про Древній Рим без прикрас, з грязюкою, рабами, розпустою та германськими племенами під боком, які воювали то з римлянами, то між собою. Тобто римські часи, наближені до реальності, але в художньому творі. Пророблено сеттінг детально.

Сюжет про двох хлопців з різною, але такою однаковою, долею, рухається повільно і сконцентрований на змужнінні персонажів. І якщо з “сином” Фалько все не дуже однозначно, то у маленького варвара з самого дитинства була певна ціль… В цілому, в сюжеті вистачає місця і пригодам, і інтригам різного штибу.

Намальовано талановито та відверто, не цураючись нічого.

Четвірка, і саме через якість українського видання. Дуже невдалий діалоговий шрифт, місцями дивний переклад.

Mirando cómics, novelas gráficas, y similares, vi estos libros... me gustó el estilo del dibujante, me atrajo el tema y, además, me cuadraba para un reto.
Están ambientados alrededor del año 1 D.C.; y en la época de la conquista de Germania. Los protagonistas son Marco, el hijo bastardo pero reconocido de un dignatario romano, que tuvo con una concubina bárbara; y Arminio, el hijo de un rey germano, tomado como rehén y educado para formar parte del imperio en la familia de Marco.
Al ser un cómic, no se puede hablar de descripciones; pero si de ambientación. Los dibujos son geniales y en el guión, centrado en Marco y Arminio, vemos como vivía la clase alta de Roma y como eran las campañas de guerra.

Komentář píšu pro první 2 díly dohromady.

Tak dlouho člověk ze všech koutů poslouchá, jak jsou Orlové super, až se dostaví mírné zklamání. Americké paperbacky (nebo Crewní MDEKy?) mě prostě zmlsaly. I když jde o sérii, v každém booku dostanu +- uzavřený příběh. Jenže Evropani na to se svými krátkými alby úplně nehrajou, takže jak tu nevyjde komplet v jedné knize, je u mě zle.

Po 120+ stránkách tu máme detailní kresbu, propracovaný postavy a výtečně ztvárněnej dekadentní Řím, akorát ten příběh jaksi chybí. Teprve v úplném závěru dvojky se vynořuje větší zápletka.

Releitura ao fim de 6 anos. Na altura, ainda não tinha sido editado o 5° e último volume, por isso, aproveito agora para ler toda a série de seguida.
Não me recordava dos pormenores da histórias (que até acabam por ser muitos), apenas dos traços gerais (sendo eles o "conflito" entre um jovem de origem romana e outro de origem germânica, trazido para Roma como penhor de paz entre os dois povos).
A história é folhentinesca, sim. Mas é muito boa! Pelo menos, faz o meu estilo: ambientada num período histórico que acho interessante, bem documentada e com todos os elementos que deixam um leitor empolgado (romance, traição, etc.).

A mi me gusta el Genero de Sandalia y arena, con toda la tematica de la historia de Roma, sus ejércitos imposibles, batallando con los galos, celtas o quien se atraviese, y sus senadores locos y tergiversantes ( no lejos de los actuales) , y aac tenemos una historia de guion correcto, pero donde se gana las 3 estrellas es en su arte, lo que hace Marini es de museo, sus lapices, sus colores, las ciudades detalladas, esas escenas de luchas gigantescas, sus mujeres perfectas, se siente el claor y la sangre, el tipo es una bestia .

I read this in german but I couldn't find that edition on goodreads but it's fine. I'm currently in a bookstore and browsing through the comic section I found this. The story follows Hermann, a german (well germanic?) soldier/hero during his life. This volume follows him during his time in Rome, where he was trained etc. It was fast, it was brutal and unexpectedly graphic. I enjoyed it enough, although I don't know if I wanna continue yet. We will see.

Au Ier siècle avant JC, un fils de chef de tribu germanique est envoyé à Rome en otage afin de sceller une alliance. Il prend le nom d'Arminius. Il est confié à un haut dignitaire romain qui se charge de l'éduquer. Ce dernière a un fils et les deux adolescents, ayant tous deux une personnalité très colorée, vont vite passer leur temps à se narguer et se battre. Cependant, petit à petit une amitié va naître, scellée par le sang, et ceux qui semblaient irréconciliables hier sembleront inséparables demain.

J'avais déjà lu cette série il y a quelques années et avec la sortie du tome 6, longtemps attendu, il m'a fallu la reprendre depuis le début. La mise en scène et les dessins sont toujours de haute qualité
On prend un immense plaisir à découvrir la Rome antique et être témoins des relations entre Rome et les peuples avec lesquelles elle est en conflit. Les dynamiques politiques sont bien exposées et l'auteur présente également d'autres aspects de la vie romaine tels que l'esclavage, la dureté de l'éducation, ou les bas-fonds de la ville de Rome.
On sent cependant que ce premier tome est orienté vers un public plus adolescent avec une constante mise en avant de la rivalité entre Arminius et Marcus, qui nous fait plus penser à 2 jeunes paons constamment en besoin de crâner. Certaines scènes à caractère sexuel n'apportent rien au scénario et n'ont pour but que de satisfaire encore une fois un public à la recherche de ce genre de choses. Pourtant, le tome permet de bien présenter les personnages principaux et d'établir leur relation qui sera cruciale pour la suite dramatique.
Un bel ouvrage pour les gens qui apprécient l'histoire romaine avec une fiction entraînante.

Fresh detailed art with vivid colours, showing intrigues and decadence in Roman empire, but so far lacking catchy story. Two young boys, from opposite sides of roman-germanian conflict are undergoing hard training as stepbrothers in order to become true roman soldiers and eventually becoming friends and blood-brothers. There is lot of action, even more sex but not so much real warfare and some interesting plot so far. Occasional time jumps back and forth and very similar depictions of woman characters makes story tricky to follow sometimes. (Review for first two volumes)

Après Murena, une autre série sur la Rome antique mais dans un style très différent, plus léger. J'aime beaucoup les dessins de Marini et le jeu de couleurs pendant certaines scènes qui crée une atmosphère unique. On suit dans ce premier tome l'éducation de Marcus, fils de sénateur romain, et d'Arminius, fils du chef chérusque Sigmar donné en otage à Rome. Un tome d'introduction bien rythmé, avec du suspense, qui donne envie de lire la suite !

Il y a des temps lointains... Rome était en guerre contre l'empire Germanique, les barbares, etc... Histoires de noble sang, d'entraînement, de digne héritier. De prince vaillant, fraternité, rivalité... Les deux princes suivent un entrainement pour les préparer à un avenir politique et guerrier... Avec quelques histoires de fesses pour pigmenter un peu le récit. Il y a une suite. Si je devais l'acheter je dirais non, mais là il est à la bibli donc ça va.

My kind of thing. It danced on the edge of cliches to begin with, but surprised me later on with some nice turns. All in all, strong dramatic beats and nice conflicts. Historically it’s pretty good too - often you get modern sensibilities projected into the past, but this in general was pretty good. Bandes desinees at their best.

in het begin dacht ik dat je echt griekse voorkennis moest hebben, maar na een paar bladzijdes bleek dat toch niet. het was interessant genoeg dat ik het bleef lezen, maar het was redelijk oppervlakkig. persoonlijk vind ik dat er geen diepte in zat, wel een continuïteit, maar steeds korte verhaaltjes die nergens naartoe leiden.

I would recommend it if you like novels about Rome and Ancient Rome. It is great without the hassle of having to read a book of at least 500 pages.

The story is written well, and the details in the drawings are gorgeous. Just like how I imagined it when I read full-on series like the Vespasianus book Series.

Read the English translation. Interesting graphic story. The story starts around 3 BC. Two young boys, a Roman noble and a Germanic princely hostage, start out as rivals and turn into friends. Along the way the reader learns about their life and the life of the Roman peoples as well.

Власне, прочитав за тиждень всі 5 томів.
Величезний плюс - малюнок, виглядає БД просто прекрасно, майже кожна панель буквально як картина.
Історія - норм, хороша, плюс "історично-правильна" (тому хто знає історію, тому будуть спойлери :) ).
