"The monster makes you feel alive."
"No, he makes me feel like death, but you, you make me feel life, and it's amazing, and precious and ridiculously fragile." He laughed, "And sometimes I hate you for it."
Chad looked up at him. "Why?"
Romeo laughed, releasing Chad. He pointed at one of his watering eyes, prodding the top of his cheek until a tear escaped.
"That," he said, "that's new. It's fucking annoying, and when my chest compresses, that's annoying, too, it's like I'm suffocating. And I don't feel it for myself, I feel it for you. If you're upset, or hurting, it crushes me."
"Being in love with me can't be all that bad."
"It's not, when you're happy, it makes me lighter, happier, too. It's infectious."

i'm fucking in love with them. <3

Right to the point, I didn’t like the arrangement Chad and Romeo made in the end at all. I wish somehow Romeo could have been cured or something, like having a normal life but with his situation I think their agreement was the best for their relationship, even though I disliked it. Told in single POV, 3rd person, it’s the third installment in the "Magpie Rhyme" series and should be read in order. Overall, I didn’t enjoy it as much as the previous books in the series, hope you like it more than me!

There is an immensely strong connection between the monster and the detective. One no one will ever understand. They are unbreakably entwined.
Looking at their youth you’ll find similarities and differences. Dark, hurtful, and lonely. There is a storm raging through both of them.

“The monster was his savior”

Chad is turned on by everything that is Romeo, his green eyes, his bulged arms, his strength, his hungry lust, and his yearning.
Chad is hiding Romeo from the outside world, to keep him safe but maybe, even more, to keep him for himself. Chad is nothing without his monster. Romeo is nothing without the one thing he ever loved. But the monster can’t stay low, he has needs. Chad understands he can’t hold him on a leash. Living with Romeo means his life hangs on a thread.

Chad, as a detective, is reintegrating after almost been ripped apart and killed, and has a hard time without Romeo at his side. There is a serial killer and Chad, as always, relies on his gut feelings. There is so much going on.
The case is genius put together and thoroughly developed, I was floored by it.

There is a thin line between right and wrong, between justice and injustice.
It’s always stormy with both men, never a breeze, but what follows is more like a hurricane.
It goes deep and they would kill for each other.

The author made me drown into the dark, into the abyss with Chad. Stunningly done!

The story is a vortex, it starts for a disturbing journey even a bit easygoing, but oh boy wait for it. It will swallow you alive.

Please read One for Sorrow and Two for Joy, you’ll understand where this all is coming from. How disturbing and insanely dark it all goes with Chad and Romeo.

A masterly written story with dark content, black not grey ha!

At this pont I felt so corrupted, not even wholy water could save me. 🤣🤣🤣

My mind was like: let him kill!!!! Let him be!!! 😤😤

And it was really interesting how Collins created this situation: In here, Romeo tried to live a normal life for Chad, he stopped killing, but the problem is killing is his life, so if you take that away from him: he just stops living...

So if this were a sane relationship, you wouldn't want your partner to stop living, you would compromise so that he too, could be happy. But Romeo is an assasin, letting him be means letting him kill people... And Chad is a detective. 🥲

So what to do? As I said, I understood from the beginning that Chad needed to let Romeo kill if he wanted to keep him sane and himself alive, but as a not psychopathic person, the morals of it were really complex so I understood Chad issues, until I didn't 🤣🤣... Mind blown!

So I liked the outcome of this particular book, and I liked that Chad showed his true colors. Cause let me tell u, you need to be fucked up to be with Romeo period and Chad is more dark than grey or white and in here we saw that.

Brilliant dichotomy (or is it?), presented in a brilliant way. Love this series! 🤯🤯🤯

There was a very specific reason I didn't want to read this book. Book 2 ended in a way that suggested the story would go in a direction I wouldn't have liked. But I was encouraged by some reviews, so here I am.

What I was afraid of, did not happen. So that's already a positive. :)
I really liked the lead-up to the ending. It was tension-filled and I loved Chad's dilemma. I could see Romeo silently suffering and I was waiting for him to explode. The psychological side of it was very interesting.
I liked the mystery and murder investigation as well, tho I wasn't convinced of how the detectives got some of the information. And after a bit, the story slowed down. The ending was sweeter than I expected... considering.
I liked reading the series more from Chad's pov. Maybe it's part of the reason why book 2 wasn't a favorite of mine.

I think this is the ending. No more Chad and Romeo. :( But It's a good and satisfying ending.

"Life isn't black and white, it's different shades of grey. No one is a hundred percent good, or a hundred percent evil. We're a mix, and sometimes that mix is unbalanced from birth, sometimes it becomes unbalanced with time and experience"

This romance is so fucked up, yet so beautiful! I love how passionate Chad and Romeo's relationship is, I love how they were willing to sacrifice a part of themselves just to make the love they share exist. It reminds me of a lyric from a Taylor Swift song: "Isn't it just so pretty to think all along there was some invisible string, tying you to me?" Fate has tied them together, for better or for worse, and although they resist it at first, they both realize that whether they want it or not, the detective and the monster are always gonna lurk around Chad and Romeo.

"The place seemed hollow without Romeo filling it with life and making it a home."

I got attached to Chad since the first book. It's so sad how much he has gone through and how salty the world treats him, and thinks that he is nothing but a broken, useless and fragile detective. Yet he finds solace in Romeo, the sociopath serial killer that saw him for who he is, loves him unconditionally without any pretexts. I cried when

"You put a heart in my chest when I thought it was impossible for me to sustain it. You make me know what it is to be alive. You make me feel it."

I think Romeo's character arc might be my favorite. He has grown so much since the first book. His love for Chad is so strong it sometimes breaks him because he doesn't understand why he feels this way, yet he does everything in his power to make Chad feel happy, even to supress his innate need to kill just to keep Chad on his side.

Oh, how much I love this green-eyed monster with his bad humor!

"I'm in the grey and that's okay"

Romeo grinned, "I'm hard as a rock, come and give me a fock"

I'm gonna stop gushing about this book here, because if I don't, this review will turn into a novel. If you liked the previous installments, this one surely will not disappoint you. I cannot wait for the fourth book to come out!

Relecture juin 2023 ❤️‍

Four for a boy ? Moi je dis ouiiii !

"What do Chad Fuller and
Romeo Knight have in common?"

"We're both breathtaking..."

Iykyk 🤣

Okay, at this point I’m just completely hooked.

Fresh start, more detectives, more crime. Still as steady as the previous books.

This third installment in the series was more focused on Romeo’s and Chad’s relationship. How to make it still work in the aftermath of everything that happened, and how to make it and keep it as functional as possible.

I like how both of the characters stayed true to themselves and their values, but still found a workaround to make their ‘abnormal’ relationship work, compromise, and meet in the middle.

I especially liked that nothing was fixed magically. Romeo still has his monster, he is still an anti-hero, but we learn to understand him and accept him through Chad’s perspective.

I love how there isn’t really a cliffhanger,(except maybe a little bit at book 1) still giving a chance for the reader to opt out.

How I waited for this book. And I was not disappointed with the direction taken. I must say that I already expected the events of that book and I loved it. I loved. If you loved the previous books don't be afraid and read Three for a Girl and watch Chad Romeo's relationship grow deeper and more passionate.

In this book Chad has to deal with the scars left by the events of the previous book, his life in a new job and his unconventional relationship with a serial Killer. Chad in this book is pulled in several directions but Romeo is his only constant and only part of his life that he is absolutely sure he wants. His role as Chad and the Detective is put to the test in this book and I was happy with what he chose. He is neither good nor bad. Something in the middle. Like everyone. Grey.

And Romeo.

I love Romeo. Process me. He loves Chad freely. He loves him so much, that he is angry at it sometimes. His love for Chad is what makes him human when he has no empathy for any other living being.

And he tries for Chad. Try hard. But he cannot change his nature. And the monster wants what he wants. The death. And Romeo wants it too. Just like Chad. Even though he doesn't admit it.

This book is a wonderful addition to the story of Romeo and Chad and I can't wait for the next one.

4.5 stars. Hands-down one of my favorite series. One fucking ground-shattering love story. Damn, I’ve never read about someone who loved as wholeheartedly as Chad. He loves a murderous, serial-killing, psychopathic, monster! He’s seen him in action and in fact had been kidnapped by him and almost killed by him and he’s seen first-hand the dead bodies he left behind in his wake to satisfy his murderous urge—yet, he so terribly loves him. Talk about being there for the good and the bad. And Chad is the only thing Romeo has ever and could ever love. Nothing can break these two.

“Four of your victims were innocent, they had families, friends.”

“Who are you reminding, me or yourself?”

Chad shook his head. “They didn’t deserve it.”

“Who does? Their innocence didn’t matter to me, it still doesn’t. Everyone, no matter how good or bad, no matter their shade of grey, should have an equal chance at life, and an equal chance at death. The monster in me has no bias, it has no judgment, only a need, and I fight against it for you.”

Goddamn. Absolutely loved it. I’m in the grey and that’s okey.

I can’t even with how much I’m obsessed with this series. Seriously.

“No one has ever made me feel like you do, like I’m important, like I matter.”
“Nothing matters more than you.”

Now I’m SO excited for more. PLEASE, give me more. I’ll do anything.

“You put a heart in my chest when I thought it was impossible for me to sustain it. You make me know what it is to be alive. You make me feel it.”

A murder mystery that takes several twist and turns, evaluating in a deeper level the nature of good and evil. The mask that people wear to justify their actions and examples of honest help from people who care.
From the romance stand point the book doesn’t disappoint, Romeo and Chad struggle, fight and grow stronger together in the way just this series knows how to do.

And Fuck Neil and Gareth, 3 books in and I still hate them.

I love how their love is...quite healthy for the dark romance genre. They complete each other perfectly and their relationship makes them better in an unconventional way. Still, there are some situations that I feel like it resolved too easily. But I still love this book enough to give it a 5/5 with my completely biased opinion.

So this series…I don’t even know that I have words describe how good this and do it justice without spoiling anything! But this series is best when you go in cold, so I’m going to try.
This is the third installment in the series, and both Chad and Romeo are struggling with trying to find a new normal. Chad knows he’s not himself if he’s not a detective solving murders, but after what he’s been through he needs to prove that he can do it. The more he tries, the more he doubts that he is ok, and that he can do this.
Romeo has tried to reform himself for Chad, but he doesn’t quite know how to do it. Against everything he’s planned, the monster isn’t satisfied, but he knows Chad would never allow him to fill his needs.
Romeo and Chad have to decide if they are enough for each other, and if they can be together in the shadows.
There’s also a fascinating murder plot going on throughout the story, that’s got fantastic twists.
This series is so amazing and I’m so happy there’s going to be a fourth!

This is a series I’d kill to get on audio! (no pun intended.)

I don’t even know what to say! This is a six star read and these two have cemented themselves as some of my favorite couples in a series I’ve read. These books are so addicting to read and I especially loved the way that Chad and Romeo’s relationship panned out in this one. I don’t know if “loved” is the right way to describe how I feel about Romeo but I do find it fascinating the way Collins writes him. Chad loves deeply with his whole heart, and this has been a struggle with him throughout the series - coming to terms with both that part of himself, and the one who understands that what Romeo is doing is deeply wrong but adoring him anyway. And their progression in this just felt natural considering where the series has been up to this point. I could honestly read a 30 book series with just these two. All in all I love love love Magpie Rhymes and will be anxiously awaiting the fourth book.

This is one of those books that you shouldn't like - escaped killer and detective with very skewed morals - but just hooks in with the intensity.
Chad came across as very unhinged in this one - will be interesting to see how his work relationship with Ally develops, and what hidden secrets she has.
Romeo still is a murky swirl for me, never knowing what he is going to do to and with Chad.
Their relationship is both solid and fucked up - they love each other but are they good for each other.
An interesting moral dilemma.
