When the world screams for hope, I try to point you to the true Source of hope–Jesus.
Sometimes life in the church no longer seems a refuge from the pain of a self-serving world around us, but through my stories, I try to point you to the only Refuge that can truly help–the Father’s Everlasting Arms.
And sometimes we just need an escape from the monotony, the emptiness we see around us. We need joy, laughter–what I like to call “just the write escape.”

What does that even mean?
It means I care–about you. About your walk with Jesus. I care about the words you put before your eyes, the mental pictures those words conjure. It’s difficult to express just how much I love my brothers and sisters in Christ. It’s difficult to share just how much I love you.
But I do.
And I write for you. I sit in my little house in California’s Mojave Desert and I write to show you why one sister believes one thing, why a brother believes another. I write to show you how some Christians handle trials or triumphs–for you. So when you’re faced with something–good or bad, it doesn’t matter–maybe it’ll spark a memory. Maybe that memory will smolder until you pull out your Bible and see what the Lord said about it–about His great love for you. For YOU!
And maybe, just maybe, you’ll share that love with another hurting, confused, or blessed-with-more-than-she-knows-what-to-do-with soul.
I just happen to think that’s the most blessed giving anyone could hope to receive.

I really like "Dual Power of Convenience" by Chautona Havig. This book is a must read for fans of clean romance stories, It is a perfect first book to introduce readers to the series. I really think I like this book better than some of the author's other books.
These characters are ones that I think I would like to be friends with and I would really like to visit Merriweather Island because it sounds like a delightful place.
Another great book , Chautona Having, I love reading your books!
I read this book in 2020 but hearing it read to you is much better in my opinion.

This is a marriage of convenience story that I ended up liking more than I expected. I loved the setting of the island and the short glimpses of the people living there.
I was a little confused at the start of the book because Mallory seemed to be the main character and then someone named Lyla shows up and becomes the main character along with Richard. But my confusion didn’t last long.
There were some amusing parts, some sweet parts, and some parts that made me want to go visit the island.
I think I remember being slightly uncomfortable over a few small parts, but they never lasted long.
Overall, this is a story I wouldn’t mind reading again some time.

Chautona Havig has done it again--taken me on a journey to a fictional world where I fall in love with the characters, and where I don't want the story to end. At least with this fantastic, inspiring series, I know I'll return to Merriweather Island again soon.
The concept of a paper marriage is bizarre, but once I really think about it, I can see how individuals could exist and even prosper under it. A contract. Boundaries. Convenience. Purpose. But, what happens when other things enter in the mix? Things paper boundaries cannot control. Emotions. Dreams. Pressure. Human desires. Shared interests. Plans. Family. Past Struggles. Changes. Age.
God has a plan for humans to share their lives with Him first, then with others. Read Dual Power of Convenience and open your mind to what Lyla and Richard created. What would you do?

This series, Independence Islands, authored by six various raconteurs, promises to be as refreshing and unique as a visit to Merriweather Island could be. Southern to-the-core, you can close your eyes and feel the refreshing breezes and hear the waves and the call of the gulls. In this first book, Dual Power of Convenience, Chautona Havig introduces two females whose friendship develops when Lyla Santana moves to the island to catalog antiques. Mallory Barrows is the islander who befriends Lyla. As Lyla helps Mallory find ways to better sell her merchandise in her mobile bookstore, Mallory returns the favor with her knowledge of the island people. This friendship will be essential as Lyla enters into a marriage of convenience with the island’s “favorite son,” whom she has never met. She does not expect the marriage to change her life, per the agreement.
Havig tackles not one, not two, but three tropes here: a marriage of convenience, fake relationship, and billionaire. She approaches this in a way that encourages the reader to be willing to suspend disbelief while enjoying tongue-in-cheek, witty banter between characters. A few pop culture references are totally fitting and hilarious, some with double entendre. While a billionaire from a little country called Azadi might be the first hint a practical reader should run the other way, real problems like allergies, getting rid of an unwanted pet, and visits to the coffee/bookstore and taco truck, balance the feelings of normalcy. The question becomes, can Lyla and Richard ever find a sense of normalcy to their very unusual marriage? I recommend this novel as a great way to spend a few relaxing hours.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK
Author Chautona Havig starts off with the first book in The Merriweather Island series with her new book, Dual Power of Convenience. And let me tell you, if all of the series is this great, it is going to be an awesome series, my friend! Ms. Havig says she isn’t a Romance writer but she nailed this one!
Lyla Santana is hired by rich man Richard Danforth to clean out a house he inherited, but boy did it turn out to be so much more! I liked Lyla from the start. And Richard has his quirks but he had to grow on me for a while. My heart goes out to Lyla because of the situation in her past that keeps her in fear. I’m glad she found a friend she could share with. This story takes on a lot, there is so much here, its full of little twists and turns that makes the story one that I couldn’t put down. I love the little Island and the beach setting for this story. The traveling book store with its coffee that smells so good. There is just not much I didn’t enjoy about this book. And I am so ready for the next book in this series! I’d you are looking for that sweet, clean beach romance for a nice summer read, look no more, this is the one you need to read!! And I hope you enjoy as much as I did!

I really loved this book. It has so much humor and also serious discussion, along with the romance. It was fun to hear Lyla mocking the tropes she was a part of—both a billionaire and a marriage of convenience. There was a lot of other humor, too. I liked the way Christian marriage is presented, and the way Lyla learned to trust again after trust had been horribly betrayed. Give this book a try—you'll enjoy it if you like light romance with something to chew on and think about later, as well as some humor!

Last month, I reviewed the prequel to the Merriweather Island series and mentioned it wasn’t quite the romance I was expecting. Well, Dual Power of Convenience by Chautona Having made up for it. Not only does it combine two romance tropes (marriage of convenience and billionaire), it is also a great beach read (or road trip listen is you grab the audiobook).
Layla and Richard are worlds apart, but necessity and circumstance brings them together. Lyla needs to learn to trust. Richard’s drive to prove he lives up to his name needs to take a back seat. When they are both living under the same (large) roof, they gravitate toward each other while also fighting their attraction.
The first full-length book in this series satisfied this romance-loving heart while also giving us more insight into island life. Christa DelSorbo’s narration pulled me right into the story and I had no problem following the three points of view.
And that prequel? I’m glad I listened to it because Mallory also has a voice in Dual Power of Convenience.

This was a fun and very original marriage of convenience story. I was a bit confused at first regarding who Mallory was and why we were hearing from her point of view as well as Lyla and Richard’s. However, I quickly got used to it.
I was slow to warm up to Lyla. She was a fairly prickly character at first. Even though I knew of the trauma she had gone through, the walls she built up to protect herself emotionally almost had me not liking this heroine. Almost!
Richard was a great guy and I was so happy when he finally came onto the scene and into Lyla’s life for real. This man was the real deal and it was great to see the way things began to work out between these two characters. There were still many, many, many hoops to jump through and plenty of miscommunication, however, my heart was a lot happier for the second half of the book. I enjoyed this unique story which truly did include many fun romance novel tropes!
I listened to the audio version and found it nicely narrated. The author worked to provide different voices for the various characters, so I was able to discern who was speaking and I appreciated that.

With Chautona Havig you can be sure of humour. And this book had humour in sweet doses.
This is book one of the Merriweather Iskand series which is part of the Independence Island series.
I listened to the audio book version and it was an absolute delight. The narrator did an amazing job.
Marriage Of Convenience is one of my favourite book trope and this book brought it out in all its glory.
Layla and Richard were so adorable together. I enjoyed listening to how they fell in love. Everyone needs a friend like Mallory in their lives I admired her heart and role in getting Layla and Richard together.
This book is a fun and relaxing read which is equally inspiring. The settings will get one craving a vacation.

I reviewed this book last year which is included below. For this post I want to comment on the audio version . There is nothing better than having a book come to life. With the expressive voice of Christa, I began to enjoy the story with excitement. I haven’t listened to many audio books, but I can say that Christa has a gift for making the characters believable. I love how she can make the words so impactful and I can’t wait til I can grab another audio that she has done. If you like to listen to books then I suggest you pick this one up .
Let me take a few minutes to just swoon over this book. I know the author has said that she doesn’t really like to write romance books. Well I will have to disagree with her thought process. This story is one of the best written romance books I have read. It oozes with emotions and clearly is a perfect read for those who like clean books. The storyline is believable and would make a great movie on dare I say The Hallmark Channel. Oh it’s not sugary sweet but just the right touch of Godly attraction between a man a woman.
Lyla is so down to earth and like able that I could picture her as my friend. I loved her enthusiasm as she sets out on a new adventure. The place she is going to work at is an historical mansion. I can see all the art work, furniture and unexpected treasures she will find by the vivid pictures the author uses with words. The author does a great job of describing the house and its historical background. It would be easy to explore the place and never get tired of the hidden gems that Lyla discovers.
Richard is a very wealthy man who needs someone to take care of a place he has inherited. Enter stage right we have the connection between Lyla and Richard. I loved reading how they communicated by text or phone while continuing a business arrangement. Lyla is very detail oriented so the match was perfect for both.
Now I could go on and tell you more but that would spoil the joy you will find as you read this wonderful example of God working in mysterious ways. Oh he knows what Lyla and Richard both desire for their lives. God has a way of getting our attention in subtle ways at times. Lyla’s past is something I knew was holding her back from trusting. The author examines that in a way where you can feel her pain and want to tell her that God has a plan. Richard is a man who anyone would fall for. He is Godly, honest and respectful. The journey that Lyla and Richard take is one that is full of hope, faith and an ending that I cried at. Yes I cried because I fell in love with these characters who became real to me. Well done Chautona. You have captured the true meaning of love and trust in a story that I will not forget.

I will confess, I am not a fan of straight romance and have never read a billionaire romance story. I am, however, a fan of Chautona Havig and her books. When I read the description for Dual Power of Convenience I found myself fascinated.
Dual Power of Convenience has such a lovely setting. The southern neighbors, the water, the little book nook… It really made me want to visit the island and stay in that lovely house with all the antiques! Or buy it from Richard Danforth.
Speaking of the characters, I quite enjoyed Richard and Lyla. They were different than other characters I’ve met through Chautona Havig, and I enjoyed getting to know them. Richard, especially, was not what I expected at all – but I won’t tell you in what way, as I don’t want to spoil anything!
I really enjoyed way she spun the marriage of convenience story. It wasn’t typical, but then, her books usually aren’t. Even though I guessed how the book would end – because, it’s pretty obvious what the basic conclusion will be – I read the entire book in two days, eager to read the next part.
The only complaint I could make is that there might be a point or two that I think the author could have elaborated on or added to. I shall not, however, spoil the story by listing that here. I would, indeed, recommend this book.

A wonderful read
If you love marriage of convenience stories, marrying a millionaire romance, then you will be thrilled with this one. And I can't forget the ideal living in an island with the quirky characters. This has been one of the most entertaining evenings with a book in a while!

This is my first book by Chautona Havig, though I've become addicted to her Because Fiction podcast and I thought it was about time I sampled one of her stories...and am I ever glad I did.

The first in the multi-authored Independence Island series, Dual Power of Convenience tackles popular tropes -- billionaire, marriage of convenience and a bit of mail-order bride thrown in -- with a fresh eye and a whole lot of heart.
Absolutely loved Havig's spin on them (and I am so not a fan of billionaires.) But Richard is atypical in some ways and that saved him for me. Yes, he's a workaholic and obsessed with his business, but he's also down-to-earth, anchored by his faith. Now, that doesn't make him perfect, but it does make him relatable.
Lyla is in hiding. There's no other way to describe it. She's run from a horrific ordeal, hoping to find solace and healing in her island retreat. Problem is, she can't run from her mind or her heart and that makes things so much more complicated. And I do so love the edge that complicated brings to a romance. :-)
Havig doesn't consider herself a romance writer, but I found an understated romantical-ness about Lyla and Richard's story. It's springs forth out of their texts and emails and phone conversations and truly blossoms when they come face to face. And when they are finally both on the island together for a prolong period -- oh la la -- happy sighs and a few toe-curls besides. I fell in love with them both...and together as a couple.
And, Hallelujah, here is a Christian Fiction book with a strong faith thread. These are real people with real problems and they really mess up, but they know God is with them all the way. Not that they always listen to Him, or even consult Him on important matters -- they're all too human for that which I loved immensely because it makes them just like me. Havig nevers preaches, but inspiration sparkles throughout.
I enjoyed watching this heroine and her hero grow on their journey from happily-never-after to happily-ever-after.
I listened to the audible edition of this book, narrated by Christa DelSorbo, and loved every second. She really brought the story to life and gave the characters unique voices which made me feel like was right there on the island listening in.
This is my first book by Chautona Havig, though I've become addicted to her Because Fiction podcast and I thought it was about time I sampled one of her stories...and am I ever glad I did.

I have loved every book by this author that I’ve ever read. And I loved the book that comes before this that chats about Mallory’s uncle and how her travelling bookstore comes to be. So I went into this book knowing that I was going to be in love with the characters and not want for the end to come. I wasn’t wrong!
Lyla is a staunch feminist and very anti-Southern. She can’t believe she’s working on an island that hearkens back to the most southern cliches she’s ever thought of. But it grows on her. Or maybe she just doesn’t want to leave the treasure trove she’s working on. After all, she has pretty much carte blanche that is if people would just do as she asks instead of demanding the owner contact them or they have it in writing from him. Is it because she’s a woman? Her anger rises. But so does her sniffles and sneezes thanks to the cat who keeps sneaking in that she names Zyrtec.
Richard loves his life in Azadi and can’t see himself returning to his ancestral home, but he doesn’t want to sell it he wants it preserved. Thus why he has hired Lyla. And he’s a billionaire so that doesn’t hurt.
But when things are heating up for both of them they decide to fix it all with a marriage of convenience. And then hilarity ensues! I mean they’re hours and countries apart and so this is perfect right?
Mallory from the prequel is back with her bookstore/coffee shop that travels and I loved seeing her again. She becomes a good friend and confidante for Lyla and helps her adjust to island life and maybe to trust her heart again.
A great read that I highly recommend. I also think you should read the book Christmas at Breaker’s Point that prequels this book because it sounds like Mallory is going to be a central character in all of the books in this series. You’re going to want to know about her!

A couple of years ago I read and really enjoyed this author's Christmas novella, Merri's Christmas Mission, and I'd been wanting to read more of her books but just hadn't gotten around to it yet (except for her short story collection, A Short Week, which I LOVED!)
When I first heard about the Independence Islands series I thought it sounded awesome, and when I read the description of Dual Power of Convenience I knew it was right up my alley because I love romances that feature multiple tropes and/or a twist on a popular trope, so of course I jumped at the chance to request a review copy!
This is such a great story and I enjoyed it SO much!
I loved the small town atmosphere, that's my favorite type of setting and the fact that it was on an ISLAND made it even more fabulous!
I loved Lyla, and there were so many times that I just wanted to reach through the pages and give that girl a hug, she's someone I'd love to be friends with, if she were real, that is!
I must admit that at first I wasn't sure how I would feel about Richard, I thought he might turn out to be a bit of a jerk, but he was not at all. I have a bit of a thing for kind, gentle, patient, tender heroes, and the way Richard strove to love Lyla like Jesus loves her absolutely melted my heart. Richard is perfect in his flawed humanness!
This book is so witty and made me literally laugh out loud more times than I can count!
I so enjoyed this story, and highly recommend it!

This book was different from other recent novels by Havig, but it was still good. I enjoyed a new setting and a new style in this kickoff to the Independence Island series. There was a little education about the island culture, as Lyla was learning her way around, and some information about antiques thrown in as Lyla began her cataloging duties. Life as a billionaire in a foreign country was rather eye-opening as well! It was also fun to meet some of the islanders, and it made me wonder whom I'll see again in future novels.
Lyla had totally made herself at home in Danforth Hall, immersing herself in the work she loved. But when Richard returned to his home, he was immediately comfortable in his former stomping grounds. The fun part is when they are not comfortable with each other, and all that transpires between Lyla and Richard. Each had to grow in trust because of past fears, which added depth to the story.
I always like books about books, and it was wonderful to meet Mallory, and root for her success as a bookseller. Another thing that made this reader take note was when Lyla and Richard came up with so many labels for their relationship.
I recommend this book to readers of contemporary romance and women's fiction. Those who enjoy beach settings will want to take note, as well.

My favorite trope in romance is marriage of convenience stories and I am always interested in the modern day take on them. Not only is this a modern day one but also throw in a billionaire and the start of a new series on islands and you have yourself a little vacation without leaving home.
This one was pretty unique, I actually find a lot of author Havig stories unique and written out of the box. Here we have two people neither one interested in marriage for different reasons and so they decide on what they think is a fool proof plan- get married on paper only. But what happens when things don't quite work out the way you thought they would and this person is now a part of your everyday life?
I liked watching these two strangers open up and become friends and I was especially hoping they would fall in love. Their relationship takes a roundabout way that is no less rocky than a more normal romance. This is also a start of a series to what promises to be a whole bunch of fun stories written by multiple authors. Can't wait.

I have said it before, and I will say it again. I love Chautona Havig’s books, fiction and non-fiction alike. However, her non-fiction books are much more-just by definition-serious than her fiction books Havig’s newest novel, Duel Power of Convenience, is no exception. I enjoyed it, too.
Mallory Barrows, longtime resident of Merriweather Island, befriends newcomer Lyla Santana. Lyla is presented with an unusual and unique “proposal.” After a lengthy pros and cons discussion with Mallory, Lyla decides to “go for it.”
Richard Danforth, world’s newest billionaire, lives in a small country halfway around the world, when he receives news he’s inherited the family estate on Merriweather Island. Much to his consternation, he must return to Merriweather Island, thus he sets plans in motion.
The characters feel so real they could be your neighbors and friends, and the setting, I think, is more swoon-worthy than Richard Danforth himself (and probably worth more, too!!). Would that it were a real location. The idea of a mobile bookstore/coffee shop like Mallory owns really appeals to me, too.
I appreciate Havig’s Biblical applications throughout the book. Their inclusion adds a nice dimension and a far deeper meaning to the story.

This is my first book by Chautona Havig and I enjoyed it. This book is part of a series written by multiple authors but I don't think they will follow each other. The setting made this book a perfect beach read as it is on the coast of Georgia.
I will admit that I was a bit confused at the beginning of the story as it started with a character named Mallory who owns a mobile bookstore. At first I thought the story was going to be about her as most stories begin with one of the main characters but this one did not. After a little bit of research I found out that Mallory is part of Chautona Havig's prequel to this story Christmas on Breaker's Point, which if you want to know more about her I recommend reading that first.
Our main characters are actually Lyla and Richard. This story is definitely one of my favorite tropes which is marriage of convenience. Lyla comes to the island to manage and catalog the belongings of Richard Danforth's estate which he just inherited. Lyla has sad past when it comes to relationships and doesn't trust men easily. She makes sure she keeps her relationships with males strictly professional and although she is not super successful she tries to keep Richard at arms length. Richard is in Azadi and wants to focus on becoming a successful businessman. Through their conversations he proposes a business agreement to get married and be married on paper only, which worked great until things go sour in Azadi and he has to return home. Home being Merriweather Island. This is when things start getting super tricky as both him and Lyla realize without letting each other know that they are falling for each other.
There are some things I really loved about this book. I love the friendship that Mallory and Lyla have. Mallory is almost like the mama bear of the friendship guiding and advising Lyla on what she should do regarding Richard. The banter between Lyla and Richard is sweet and comical. Mallory not only helps Lyla see what she is missing out on, but also helps Richard out when he needs a voice of reason. Mallory is definitely a key character and I hope we see her in the future and she gets her own happy ending story!
The spiritual elements are there but not in an overpowering way. It is a story of redemption and letting go of fears especially for Lyla. It's the perfect read for any day especially if you are heading to the beach!

Dual Power of Convenience is a lovely contemporary Christian romance by gifted wordsmith Chautona Havig. It is Book One in the Merriweather Island Series. If you are looking for a delightful respite from the daily gloomy news of everyday life, this is the perfect book. It an uplifting, sweet romance.
Richard Danforth is one of the main characters. He is a billionaire bachelor living across the world. The other main character is Lyla Santana. She is a single lady, determined to stay that way, with a degree in antiquities. He hires her to assist with his old Southern family estate.
Let me admit something. I am not really a fan of contemporary book nor of billionaire ones. You are probably questioning why I picked this one up. Right? I have never read anything sub-par by author Havig. Her novels encourage, enlighten, entertain, and engage readers, myself included. This one is no exception.
The characters are all believable. They have quirky personalities and are easy to like. I was quickly engaged with Lyla’s character and story. Mallory is the character at the opening of the book. She is delightful. I loved the bookstore/coffee shop she ran.
Lyla and Richard’s story is not the usual marriage of convenience tale one might expect. Yes, sparks start to fly, but there is much more to the story. As with all of her books, the author includes a spiritual message as well as life lessons. Readers come away refreshed and pondering different parts of the book.

Dual Power of Convenience was an interestign read. It is slightly different from some of Chautona Havig's other works, but you know what, I liked that this was a book that you could take to the beach and read (which is kind of the point of this series).
I enjoyed getting to read more about Mallory - who was introduced in Christmas on Breakers Point - and seeing how she is getting along with her mobile book store. I loved how she befriended Lyla and was willing to give her advice when she needed it, even if she didn't necessarily ask for it.
I also liked getting to know Lyla over the course of the novel, however even though we get brief details about what happened in her past, I really wish we had been given more details...but that's just me, I like knowing all the details of a character's past especially if it affects how they treat others. But again, I did enjoy getting to know her and even watch her grow throughout the novel, even with her troubled past.
Richard was also a great character, but there were times he could have had more gumption and ask some of the hard questions he should have asked especially when it comes to whether or not she is a Christian...that's an important question that shouldn't really be avoided...but again, that's probably just me. But he was great and I loved how sympathetic he was of Lyla, even when she seemed to want nothing to do with him. I also loved watching their friendship blossom.
Overall, Chautona Havig once again provides an interesting concept and makes it work. I highly recommend this for anyone looking for a fun beach read with a hint of seriousness. This is a perfect feel good book that has characters that readers will root for throughout the whole book! 4/5 Stars.

Overall, Chautona Havig once again provides an interesting concept and makes it work. I highly recommend this for anyone looking for a fun beach read with a hint of seriousness. This is a perfect feel good book that has characters that readers will root for throughout the whole book! 4/5 Stars.

When I heard about this series, I was very excited to read the books. It took me a little bit to get into this book, though. I had to get used to the writing style and I was also a little confused at first whose story it was going to be since we had two women's point of view besides the guy's. (I now know that Mallory shows up in all of Chautona Havig's books in this series). This was an interesting twist on the marriage of convenience troupe and I thought it was funny that the characters talk about what troupes their marriage covered. I wish that I could take a tour of the Danforth Hall and see all the antiques! I look forward to reading the rest of the books in this series.

Dual Power of Convenience is the first book of a unique series called the Independence Islands Series. Several things make this series special: The setting is fictitious and is comprised of several (I forget how many) islands located off the coast of Georgia. (I love books set in the South!) Each book features characters from a different island, but they interact with each other at different times. This book is set on Merriweather Island; there's also an island that is nicknamed Hopper (you'll have to read to find out why!). Most of the books' main characters will be owners of mobile businesses -- think food truck, bookmobile, etc. Dual Power's main characters are not mobile business owners, but we are introduced to one who becomes a friend to Lyla and who will show up in Chautona's other books in the series. The other thing that makes this series unique is that the books will be written by different authors! This is a great way to become acquainted with authors I may not have read before.
Dual Power of Convenience was a wonderful book to read (twice! And if I hadn't been busy getting my daughter's Fifth Grade Year started, I would've read it again!) Lyla Santana is both strong and vulnerable, very smart, but lacking a little bit of wisdom in some areas. Nobody's perfect, and it makes for a far more interesting book! Richard Danforth, also quite intelligent, is a very strong, driven man with a surprising weakness that makes for a funny scene in the book. I honestly cannot think of a single negative thing about this book. The characters are both people you've met before and yet totally new. I wish that the Islands were not fictitious because I want to go there! The story combines two tropes plus Chautona's special twist of awesomeness.

Dual Power of Convenience by Chautona Havig is a phenomenal story that will leave you wanting more. From the very first page, Ms Havig sets up an idyllic island with quirky places and characters, a place you will want to linger. I am so excited that there are more books coming in this series because Merriweather Island is a delight. I love how this author plays with classic tropes to create a story unique and fun. This is the perfect summer beach read and I recommend it highly. Ms Havig weaves themes of faith throughout the book and this only adds to her perfect craftsmanship of this story. She has perfected the art of showing the reader and not simply telling facts, and this is evident in the way the story moves quickly and vibrantly. I have read and enjoyed other books by this author but this book is definitely my favorite so far. Merriweather Island is where you want to be-- a place full of history and hope and second chances. Dual Power of Convenience by Chautona Havig is the first book in the Independance Island Series. This series does follow Christmas on Breakers Point which introduces us to the islands and to many of the characters in the series however it is not necessary to have read it prior to Dual Power of Convenience.

Lyla is a survivor of Domestic violence, while this book does not focus on it it does impact Lyla in many of her choices.
What I think about this book:
This was such a fun book, I love marriage of convenience stories because I love to see how the author works everything out. Lyla and Richard are two really unique characters. Richard is set on proving he is worth his family name, but in the process he has lost himself. Lyla has closed herself off from the world and thinks she is happiest that way. The two create a story that is so interesting to read. I love how Havig brought the story to life when she was describing island lids including the bridge. I was holding my breath for Lyla as she was driving the bridge. This was a wonderful story of two people who didn’t know how much they needed each other! I can’t wait to read the rest of the books in the series.

Marriage of convenience, billionaire romance, and a few other tropes that aren't my favorite, but somehow Havig managed to write a story I was invested in. I'm impressed. A short story that managed not to feel too rushed.
I really wasn't sure if I was going to like this book. I thought it would be a 3 star read, enjoyable but not remarkable. Yet, what seemed like all at once, this book just went better and better.
I enjoyed watching Lyla mature. One thing I really wanted Havig to do, she did (Thank you, Mallory!). Nice visit to the Island. Can't wait to return.

If you have not read a book by this author - you are missing out. This book is part of a series written by multiple authors. I am excited to see where the series goes. Now, this author is part of a reading group/blogging group that I am a part of - and I love her wit and humor. Her personality always spills into her books. In this, we meet Lyla Santana, She is very feminist - and anti-Southern. She recently obtains a degree in antiques (which is an interesting degree choice) so when she ends up working on an island that oozes Southern hospitality. Richard the other main character is way to busy becoming a global billionaire sensation he does not have time for women who are going to distract him. He does not want to return to his childhood home - that he hires Lyla. This leads to a marriage of convenience and an adventure that they did not count on. This book made me smile and laugh. It is a sweet romance book.
The author has done a great job creating original characters. She has wrote an interesting storyline - I am excited for this multi author series. This book is a must read for any romance lover.

I’d never read a “billionaire romance” before, and I had vowed to myself to completely avoid them. Up until this book, I had not read or reviewed any books of the books in this genre. So why did I read this particular book? Because Chautona Havig wrote it, and I knew it wouldn’t be the typical storyline that you find in those types of romances. And I was right: This one has an interesting storyline; characters that have depth to their personalities; and a theme of faith that runs throughout the story.
Lyla and Richard are both convinced that they will never want a true marriage, but they both see the advantages of being legally married in name only. But things don’t always go the way you plan, and their plan faces major, unexpected changes. Their story is sometimes funny; sometimes serious; but always sweet. There’s some secondary characters in this one that I really Iiked, and I’m hoping they show up again in this series. I enjoyed this story—but it’s still probably my one and only “billionaire romance” book that I’ll read.

Chautona's writing style reminds me a lot of my own. She likes to look for the deeper meanings in life and gives her stories a spiritual depth that I appreciate. Dual Power of Convenience is book one of the new Independence Island series from Celebrate Lit Publishing.
Dual Power of Convenience is an excellent marriage of convenience story. One thing I enjoyed it that although the couple was legally married, it didn't focus on a desire for physical intimacy. It focused on the couple getting to know each other and building thier relationship outside of physical attraction.
It's a beautiful story of learning to trust, not only the Lord, but each other in a relationship. Each character has fears to face down, and the other helps them conquer those fears.
I recommend the book for anyone over the age of 16, looking for a Biblically based Marriage of Convenience story.
