The Last Concerto

Rate this book
Famous composer and violinist Sir Peter Bagshaw is at the zenith of his powers, applauded world-wide for his musical genius, extremely happy in his second marriage to Rosamund, talented violinist, once his ward. Together they tour the concert halls of Europe, Russia and America, playing Peter's beautiful 'Rose Concerto'---when tragedy strikes! Rosamund, heavily pregnant and suffering from high blood pressure, is forced to return home, leaving Peter to conclude the tour alone. He is violently attacked on stage by a demented woman, whom he had once rejected. She is suffering from AIDS. Police already alerted to possible danger to the musician, following a previous attack, shoot Lois Challoner as her knife strikes Peter. They fall together, blood intermingling. Sir Peter Bagshaw has to face the future knowing that almost inevitably he carries the AIDS virus. The book explores his initial anger and despair as he confronts the future with his young wife and baby son, in a story covering a gamut of emotions, as he turns his magnificent old manor house into an AIDS hospice and composes his deeply moving Golden Concerto-----to be known as the Last Concerto.
