After agreeing to enter the New Life Assisted-Living Community outside of Boston, Agatha “Aggie” Robard talks her devoted, serious granddaughter, Blythe, into driving her to Florida, stopping to see old college friends along the way. She particularly needs to speak to Donovan Bailey, the man she’d thought she would marry right after graduating from college. By asking Blythe to go with her, Aggie is hoping to prove to her that life should be about having fun too. Their road trip is a great idea for both of them as long as Aggie’s son and his wife, Blythe’s difficult stepmother, don’t find out. While the rest of the family is away on vacation, Aggie and Blythe set off on their secret adventure. All goes well until Aggie falls while dancing on the beach with Donovan, breaking a bone in her leg. Then Blythe’s father is seriously injured in an automobile accident. Blythe and Logan Pierce, Donovan’s young assistant, do their best to step in for them at The Robard Company working together, fighting the attraction they feel for one another. The road trip brings about happy memories, surprises, and love as Aggie and Blythe meet others and discover new possibilities for everything they’ve ever wanted.

Don’t miss this heartwarming road trip as Aggie Robard spirits her serious granddaughter Blythe off on an adventure that reveals more possibilities for happiness and second chances than either woman imagines. A wonderfully uplifting beach read.
No one was going to keep Aggie Robard from doing what she wanted, both in her personal life and her business life. Aggie and her deceased husband ran a successful group of home and hardware stores for over 40 yrs and there was no way she was going to let her son and his wife dictate her life after convincing her to move into a retirement village at New Life Assisted Living Community. So, while the cat’s away, Aggie plans a road trip with the help of her granddaughter Blythe, who she is grooming to take over her job as CEO of the company. It’s to prove to herself that she is in charge of her own life. They go on the road with the destination to Florida and The Seashell Cottage. Along the way, Aggie has Blythe make a few stops to see the friends she has not seen in many years that she went to collage with. It is both fun and heartbreaking for her. But the real reason for the trip is to see her first love Donovan Baily. She was sure that he was going to be the man she married, but his family and fate kept them apart and Aggie wanted the chance to explain what kept them apart. Blythe agrees to go because she has been at odds with her stepmother from the time, she married her father and she was not going to have Constance rule her life either. When Aggie and Donovan resume their relationship, things move quickly with him moving into the retirement village with her and being there for her when her son is suddenly in peril and she must take over the reins of the business and train Blyth for her to take over.
Little did Blyth know that when helping her grandmother find her lost love, she would also come into contact with someone who would become a big part of her life. Seashell Cottage was the place where many found romance and happiness and would it be the same for Aggie and Blyth.
Judith Keim has a way of weaving a great women's fiction story that draws her readers to her books time and time again. And it is no different with this book. I loved the characters, and I want to be Aggie when I grow up... I loved the relationship Aggie and Blyth had, it reminded me of my own with my grandmother. We went on many adventures together. In her story it is not all sunshine and sand, because life is not made that way and for both Blyth and Aggie there is heartache and sadness. When reading the story, she also blends in characters and places from some of her other books and it’s fun to meet up with those people and places again.
If you love women’s fiction then you are going to love this book and will want to see how much fun it can be to go on a Road trip to remember. She has become one of my fav writers in the last year.
Thank you Judtih Keim for giving me a copy of your books to review. I look forward to more of your books in the future.
A Road Trip to Remember by Judith S. Keim is a delightful book I enjoyed reading in a day! This is another of the stories in the Seashell Cottage series. Aggie is not happy with being treated as if she is not capable of living an interesting life just because she is seventy-two. Her son and daughter-in-law had convinced her to move into an assisted living community. She decides to make plans for a vacation on her own terms! She calls her granddaughter, Blythe, to drive her to Seashell Cottage in Florida. She has some special stops she wants to make along the way. She also has some plans for Blythe to take over her position in the family business. Blythe is shocked at her grandmother but also agrees she has the right to a fun vacation. Blythe is preparing for her college graduation and was left out of her father and stepmother's vacation to Hawaii. Driving her grandmother to Florida will be her secret from the family. All goes well until Aggie falls while dancing on the beach and breaks a femur. Blythe is dreading to make the call to her father and give him the news. Aggie does not allow this unfortunate accident to detour her joyful reunion with Donovan. I won't post spoilers, but this book is filled with unexpected twists for Aggie and her family. Aggie is finding new joy in her life but there are some unexpected events that are cause for concern. Aggie realizes it is never too late to look for joy and happiness in her life as she ages. Publication Date: April 20, 2021 Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Cute, quick listen while doing housework. “A Road Trip to Remember” is a wonderful and touching story about a woman, Aggie, who wants to take a road trip to Florida with her grandaughter, Blythe. They have a special relationship and grow closer throughout this trip. This story unites former lovers, new lovers and heals a family. I normally don’t read sappy books even for enjoyment, but this was highly recommended and deserves accolades for those who love fictional romance.
Great Story, loved The Family connections between the characters, the road trip tells us to enjoy life to the fullest no matter the cost of your age , you only live once. These Characters embrace it.
I received an ARC from Judith Keim for an honest review. Aggie let her son and daughter-in-law talk her into selling her house and moving into New Life Assisted-Living Community. Her son, daughter-in-law, and their two sons were going on vacation for two weeks, but they were leaving her granddaughter, Blythe at home. Aggie talked Blythe into driving her to Florida while they were gone. Aggie wanted to see the few friends she had since college that were still here and meet again the first man she ever loved, Donovan. Blythe and Aggie set out on their road trip to remember and what a trip it was for the two of them. They saw the people Aggie wanted to see and when they reached Florida and Seashell Cottage. Aggie announced that Donovan was moving in, and they were sharing her room. There is a lot of things happening in the book, but the spunk Aggie has, and the determination sets the tone for the book. She isn't controlling, but she has made decisions that affect her business and her family. Once everything is revealed, it sounds like it is the best thing for everyone but most importantly for Aggie, because she has a few dances left in her. It is the perfect book to read after this long pandemic because as I was reading this book, it was like I was able to go home after being gone way too long. When I read about them staying at Seashell Cottage, going to Gavin's Restaurant, and the Salty Key Inn, oh how I missed those places. It was nice seeing three generations of family, living life the way they want, finding a way to make changes that affected them all, but it turns out wonderful for them all, and they all fell in love with the Seashell Cottage, Gavin's Restaurant, and Salty Key Inn. Life is for living, and they are going to live it, no matter what the age.
A Road Trip to Remember is a heartwarming story about family, about healing past wounds, and about finding happiness for now and for the future. Aggie and her granddaughter Blythe embark on a road trip just as Blythe is about to graduate from Cornell, at a crossroads about where life will take her. Aggie is in her 70’s, and plans a reunion with her first love, hoping for forgiveness and reconnection. I really enjoyed the warmth and love between Aggie and Blythe, genuine feelings and respect are evident between these two women. There is a lot of healing in this book, both physical and emotional, as relationships grow and misunderstandings forgiven.
Agatha “Aggie” Robard, is getting older and her son and daughter-in-law have convinced her to move into an assisted-living facility. She agrees, but doesn't give up her car, her independence, or her job running the family business. While the rest of the family is away on vacation, Aggie convinces Blythe to take her on a road trip. The plan is to head to Florida to meet up with an old school friend, who was also her boyfriend to make amends. She also wants to visit old friends along the way. Blythe reluctantly agrees and they set off on their secret adventure. When they finally arrive in Florida, Aggie meets up with her old flame, Donovan Bailey. They talk things out and forgive one another, setting up a path to rekindle their old romance. That is until Aggie falls dancing on the beach and needs surgery. Blythe has to tell her dad what happened. He immediately wants her to return home to Boston so she can be taken care of, but Aggie has other ideas.
This is the 4th book in the Seashell Cottage series, but each book can be read as a standalone, it is the setting that they have in common. I loved Aggie, and want to be her. She is a great character, smart, independent, loving, and more. To have the courage to do what she did and end up having a second chance romance is awesome, however, that is not all there is to this story. Donovan has his own issues, with health problems that he is living with. Blythe is getting over a relationship that was not healthy, and Donovan has a carer who is perfect for Blythe, but there are roadblocks in the way. This story flows naturally, with lots of great characters, and some reconciliation. My one issue was the accident that her father gets in and the use of loss of memory as a vehicle to move the story forward, but it is short lived. I think this story ended perfectly, but I will not say how it plays out, you will have to read this one to find out.
I always know when I read a Judith Keim book that I am really going to enjoy it. I was immediately drawn into this story because Aggie, who is 72 had planned a road trip to Florida with her granddaughter, Blythe and no one else would know they had driven to Florida. It was fun meeting some of her old friends along the way.
I liked the relationship between Blythe and her grandmother and the road trip sounded "outrageous" like Aggie. Learning about Aggie and the two great loves of her life, as she reflected on her past was really interesting. I liked her strong character, who was not old enough to just sit in assisted living and that no one was going to tell her what to do. I also liked that she was a good influence on Blythe, teaching her that life cannot be all about work. You need to have fun too. She also taught her how to run the family company.
I will miss these two characters and their romances, as well as, Seashell Cottage, which sounded like a beautiful, magic place to visit, especially for Aggie, Blythe, Donovan, and Logan. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
Thank you NetGalley, Judith Keim and Wild Quail Publishing for the ARC of A Trip to Remember. This is my personal review. Aggie and her granddaughter Blythe had an adventure together that changed both of their lives forever. Aggie had moved into an Assisted Living community and Blythe had forgone a trip with her family to Hawaii to concentrate on finishing things to graduate from college. Aggie decided that with the family all out of town it was the perfect time for her and Blythe to go on a trip together. This was going to be an epic adventure for both as the wandered their way to Florida. Aggie and Blythe connected and bonded in ways that will make you smile and feel they will never be the same people when they return home. The people they stopped to see, the places they stopped to see and the memories they made will make you glad you went on the trip with them. I enjoyed this book so much and I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
Once again Judith Keim, has written another wonderful story! I love how she writes books about second chances. No one especially her daughter in law is going to keep Aggie Robard from making her dreams come true. The book is about love, friendship, family and a second chance at love. I would definitely recommend this book to others
I received a ARC from NetGalley and the publisher, an all opinions expressed here are my own.
This heart-warming book by Judith Keim is perfect to forget your troubles for a while. Aggie and Blythe set out on a road trip so Aggie can visit old friends for possibly the last time. The trip changes the perspectives of both women, and Blythe learns things about her grandmother she did not know. The story is told through the thoughts of both women, making it easy to read and easy to love the characters. I recommend this book to anyone who likes to feel a friendship with the characters and wish them all well. I received a copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions expressed are my own.
I enjoyed the storyline of this book. But I felt the writing was a little amateurish. Everyone was perfect, every friend was perfect, the weather was perfect.. all except for the Step-Mother. The author felt the need to explain every little mundane detail and repeat them or someone's repetitive thoughts of a mundane detail. It was like filler. This author isn't for me.
"Love doesn't always have a beginning, a middle, and an end, like some people might think. Love is an ever-encompassing feeling, even when it comes by surprise or by repetition." -A Road Trip to Remember
At seventy-two, Agatha "Aggie" Robard is not one to stop living her life. It is bad enough that she let her son Brad talk her into selling her house and move into the New Life Assisted Living Community. So when a college class reunion falls apart, Aggie is determined to catch up with her old friends and old beau...even if that means driving to see them herself. However, she has one problem...she needs to enlist the help of her granddaughter Blythe to keep the secret and help her with the drive from Boston to Florida. Of course, her selling point to Blythe is that it will give them time together as they embark on a road trip to remember.
Blythe Robard is in her senior year at Cornell, and graduation is just around the corner. She has been preparing for this moment most of her life and is looking forward to taking over the family business of hardware stores. She is so focused on finishing school, that she is completely caught off-guard when Aggie asks her to go on a road trip with her. A week at Seashell Cottage does sound appealing, so Blythe agrees to it. Little does she know, but this road trip is going to change her life.
Whenever I read a book by Judith Keim, it is a bit like going home. The characters may change with each title, but the feelings her books evoke are always pure comfort and joy. If you have not read the other books in the Seashell Cottage Series, I highly recommend that you do. Seashell Cottage is a beautiful rental cottage on the Gulf Coast of Florida, and it is known for being magical in regards to love and those that stay there.
A Road Trip to Remember is wonderful addition to the series. This is a beautifully told story about family, love, friendships, and never being too young or too old to follow your dreams and your heart. Aggie is an amazing character...strong-willed, determined, and has a spark that is pure joy to witness. Aggie knows what she wants, and is not afraid to go after it. She spent forty years building the business, and knows that she will be leaving it in good hands when Blythe takes over.
Blythe is an interesting character. I actually felt sorry for her because her mom is not a part of her life, and her stepmom treats her horribly. With that being said, she has a wonderful relationship with Aggie and her dad. I love the dedication she has to the family business, even when it may mean sacrificing her own personal life.
Overall, this is just a feel good story with an amazing cast of characters. This is a story that has laughter...as well as a few tears...and some unexpected twists. The characters are all well-written and very easy to relate to. The main storyline follows Aggie and Blythe, but all of the characters are involved in some sort of life change. It is a story about second chances, and following your dreams...and never being too old or too young to live your life to the fullest!
I would like to thank Judith Keim for allowing me the opportunity to read and review an ARC of A Road Trip to Remember. My views are my own, and are in no way influenced by anyone else.
Thank you to the author, Judith Keim, Quail Publishing, and Booksprout for an advanced reader copy of this book. The comments and reviews are my honest opinion.
A Road Trip to Remember was the second book that I have read by Judith Keim and I am hooked. I love them! This book is a story about family, love, friendships, and second chances. I laughed and cried my way through it and didn't want it to end. The main character, Aggie, has just been convinced to give up the independence of owning her own home and move into an assisted living. She isn't thrilled about it and still wants to live life to the fullest. So she plans a road trip to see some old college friends and most importantly to reconcile with Donavan. She thought Donavan was the one, but there were some misunderstandings that kept them from getting married. She went on to be married for many years, but now it is important to see him again and put that behind them.
She made reservations at the Seashell Cottage and plans to reunite with these friends and asked her grand daughter Blythe to go along. She would use this time to talk to Blythe about the family business. She planned on stepping down and working less and having Blythe take over her position. Blythe would be graduating and had always thought this was the plan, but she wasn't expecting it just yet. Aggie wanted there to be some transition time to train her so this summer is perfect. She wants Blythe to have time out of work as well. Blythe's family is also headed out of town, but she wasn't going. Her step mother was not easy to be around and would have expected her to watch over her brothers rather than enjoy herself. Blythe could use a change in scenery due to just breaking up with her boyfriend. So they set off with plans to come back first so no one knows they ever went anywhere.
Aggie and Blythe have fun visiting friends and traveling and once they arrive the meeting with Donavan goes well too. Unfortunately, Aggie has a little bit too much fun and ends up injuring herself. This leads to her son, Blythe's dad, being called about her surgery and to come see her. He is very surprised, worried about his mother, and not very happy with either of them.
There is so much more but I do not want to spoil it for you. The story has all the components- love, loss, adventure, family relationships, new beginnings, etc. You need to read it to see where the relationship with Donavan and Aggie goes and whether Blythe will find someone who will love her for who she is and treat her better than her old boyfriend. Aggie and Blythe have a special relationship, but you will see some changes in the other family relationships too. Remember that life is short and you should take the time to enjoy it!
A Roadtrip to Remember is the fourth book in Judith Keim’s Seashell Cottage series. This story finds Aggie Robard soon after her only son, Brad, and difficult daughter-in-law, Constance, have convinced Aggie to sell her large home in Denham, MA, and get a condo at the New Life Assisted Living Center. Aggie may have been willing to go along with downsizing but she is no where near not living her life however she chooses, including maintaining and managing majority interest in the family business, Robard Company which oversees the Robard Hardware Stores that she and her late husband, Arnold, had created. With Brad and his second family soon leaving on a two week Hawaiian vacation, Aggie seeks out her granddaughter, Blythe to accompany her on a special road trip to Florida with a week stay at Seashell Cottage.
Blythe cannot deny her beloved Gran anything, so agrees to drive her Gran’s Mercedes convertible down the coast with a stop in Jersey, Maryland, and Jacksonville, FL, before heading across state to Seashell Cottage, a bit north of Tampa Bay. At each stop along the way, Aggie is visiting old friends from college. She feels she may have been remiss in letting friendships stray and wants to make amends, especially to her first love, Donovan Bailey. His family and misunderstandings pulled them apart. While she has no regrets for having married another, Aggie wants to make sure there are no regrets going forward.
In an idyllic few days Aggie feels rejuvenated and ready to take on the world. That is until a twisting fall while dancing on the beach leaves her with a broken femur. Now Aggie and Blythe’s road trip would become known to Brad and Constance and things could become even more difficult with this pair. As both Aggie and Blythe navigate the fallout from the trip they have even greater challenges as a family to overcome.
This is a well plotted story with richly drawn characters. Ms. Keim has taken a close look at how elders in our society may be shortchanged their freedom and direction and how the strength and perseverance of one such person enables a better future for the whole family. This well written book was a pleasure to read and I do recommend it!
Boston to Florida to Boston! Aggie was put into a retirement home, she’s decided she has move life to live. Takes her granddaughter Blythe to go on a road trip with her. A trip to remember. They start off and visit a college friend who has cancer. It’s heart warming, then they visit a couple who were her friends they end up at seaside cottage in Florida. Aggie tells Blythe that her old boyfriend lives here and she wants to see him. Aggie sits it up. They come to the cottage Donovan has Logan with him to drive and help him as he’s in a MS flare up. Aggie and Donovan get reacquainted, while Blythe and Logan walk the beach then they cook dinner. After dinner Aggie informs Blythe that Donovan will be staying with her in her bed. Logan and Blythe are shocked. But they’re old and want to spend time together. Logan stays to help Donovan in and out of bed. They spend time together and all is well until Aggie and Donovan are dancing and she falls and breaks her leg. Now they have to call Blythe dad. He’s like WHAT! She gets out of the hospital but stays in Fl to do her rehab. Blythe goes back for finals and graduation, she is to take over family business. Aggie is going to train her and have her take over. After Blythes graduation they all flew back but her dad had to drive the car back and was in an accident. He has a head injury. So they ask Logan to help them out and take over his duties at work. So he’s working with Blythe. They are now very attracted to each other. They are in the young part of Boston and dating people. While they are on trip to check stores Logan ends up a little tippy and tells Blythe how he fells and kisses her. But doesn’t say anything the next day. They work together at a distance. Then Logan tells her he loves her and wants a life with her and said he would figure out a way to be together. He resigns from his job. Aggie makes Blythe go after him. She does, tellls him she loves him to…she resigns too. Aggie sents them a new contract that they can date and more money! They get married on the beach at seaside cottage.
This is another great book from Judith Keim about a Grandmother/granddaughter road trip from Boston to Florida. It's filled with the fun of the trip, the love between the two women, the emotions of saying goodbye to old friends and the ability to change your life no matter what age you are. It made me smile and I also shed a few tears but mostly I enjoyed the lessons that were learned on this adventuresome road trip.
Aggie is in her 70s. Despite her protests, her husband's new wife had convinced her to sell her family home and move into assisted living. She misses her home but is making the best of the move and has made lots of new friends. She asks her granddaughter Blythe to take her to Florida to Seashell Cottage during spring break. They both agree to keep the trip a secret from Aggie's son and wife because they know that they will discourage this trip. Once they get started on the trip, Blythe finds out that it has been well planned so that Aggie can stop and spend time with her special friends from college and to say a final goodbye to them. Her main goal is to see Donavon again - he was the love of her life in college and through a misunderstanding, they broke up and both still had some bad feelings. She wanted to apologize to him after all these years and to see him one more time. She also wants the trip to remind Blythe that there is more to life than work - that she needs to relax and find fun in life away from her job.
I loved Aggie - she and I are similar ages and I could just imagine traveling to spend time with my friends from college. She was spunky and full of life and a joy to read about. This is a wonderful book full of love of family and friends and finding the joys in life no matter what age you are! It was fantastic to go back to Seashell Cottage with these two wonderful characters.
Thanks to the author for a copy of this book to read and review. All opinions are my own.
A ROAD TRIP TO REMEMBER has a wonderful cast of characters and so many stories going on that were woven together nicely. There was a nice pace and good flow to the story that has strong women and men that have to keep up with them. Aggie Robard is in her early seventies and still is the head of the family business which she helped grow. She's also very close with her granddaughter, Blythe, who will soon be graduating college and learning the business so she can take over some day. Little do they know how soon that may be!
Aggie or Gran, plans a road trip from the New Life Assisted Living Community in the Boston area to the Gulf coast of Florida to Seashell Cottage. She asks Blythe to join her and they have a lot of memories being created. Along the way they meet up with some of her college friends and her ultimate goal is to meet up with Donovan, the love who got away. As they travel on their adventure, unbeknownst to her son and his wife who are in Hawaii on vacation, it is truly a road trip to remember. I love the descriptions, the love between Blythe and Gran, the friendships reconnected and new ones made. There are both sad and happy events along the way of the telling of the tale. Her son and his controlling wife learn that she has a lot more life to live and will not be told how to live it. The relationships were portrayed realistically throughout with lots of love, friends and family. There is wonderful closure and some happily ever afters too. I look forward to returning to the magic that is Seashell Cottage.
Ms. Keim has fast become a go to author. I love her writing style, her portrayal of her characters and how she draws me in from the first page to the last! I will be back to read more of her books. Give her books a try if you haven't already! You'll be glad you did.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Judith Keim, in “A Road Trip To Remember,” writes to share about two women who faced unexpected challenges and met them with strength. In taking this approach, both found love and happiness along the way.
Agatha “Aggie” Robard, 72, has just recently recovered from pneumonia and is lamenting the treatment of her only daughter-in-law. Ulterior motives and raving jealousy caused Constance to manipulate her husband Brad into moving Aggie into an assisted living facility. When Brad’s family take off to spend Spring Break in Hawaii, Aggie hatches a plan to prove that she still has the power to live her own life as she sees fit. Twisting her granddaughter's arm, they head off on a secret girls’ road trip in a white convertible Mercedes to the Gulf Coast of Florida. Aggie has rented Seashell Cottage for Spring Break.
Blythe Robard, 21, has just broken up with her boyfriend, Chad, and has one semester left before graduating from Cornell. Since her mom was placed in a mental institution 16 years ago, Blythe has had to deal with her jealous stepmom. A road trip with grandma might just be what she needs.
You’ll laugh and cry as these girls make pitstops along the way. Each is determined to enjoy their days with a new sense of abandon. Keim’s characters are endearing and believable and her settings are realistic. Both sets of my grandparents have passed away, but I remember happy memories of both and the secrets we shared. Keim reminded me of a grandparent's love and ability to make my problems appear small. I felt like this book was a hug with a reminder to approach my elderly loved ones with grace and allow them the dignity to be part of the elder-care discussion. Come join the journey and witness the happy memory-making moments, the surprises, the friendships new and old, and watch them discover new possibilities for everything they’ve ever wanted.
Watch for this novel on April 20, 2021 and the sequel “Beach Babes” in 2022.
Thank you to Judith Keim, Wild Quail Publishing, and NetGalley for this fantastic gift. I received this advance copy free and was under no obligation to provide a review.
This book had unexpectedly quirky characters with a somewhat twisted plot all put together in pages that were just plain fun to read. Aggie Robard agrees to live in an assisted living facility, but before she gives up her freedom, she talks her granddaughter Blythe into a road trip to Florida. Headed for fun in the sun, the two also discover new relationships, Aggie with an old flame named Donovan and Blythe with Donovan’s grandson Logan. With the responsibility of running the family’s chain of hardware stores, Aggie is not prepared for falling in love or falling and breaking her leg. Nonetheless, she is a feisty old woman who has a plan for the business that she built and it includes Blythe taking over. Blythe’s father Brad is in a serious car accident and I was relieved to finally see that stepmother Constance ultimately cared for someone other than herself and money. Although there were a lot of platitudes and moments of “I knew that was going to happen”, getting to the end of the book was actually a lot of fun. The descriptions of the escapades of Aggie and her grit to have her own way about her business and her life were realistic and admirable. I enjoyed the characters and the story and was a little sad for this road trip to end. Fans of light-hearted romance with some family drama mixed in will enjoy this book. If you love heartwarming stories about family and second chances in life, you will love A Road Trip to Remember by Judith S. Keim! The heroine in this wonderful story reminded me so much of my own grandmother (who was full of spunk just like Aggie), and all of the road trips my sister and I took with her as children from California to Michigan, and all places in between.
In A Road Trip to Remember, Agatha “Aggie” Robard talks her granddaughter Blythe into taking a small break during her final semester of college and take a road trip to Florida with her. For Aggie it is going to be a trip down memory lane, to visit with old college friends, and to finally see her “first” true love Donovan Bailey.
For Blythe this trip will be a great way to spend quality time with her grandmother before graduating from college and going to work at the family business, where she will eventually take over as CEO when her grandmother steps down. Sadly, Blythe’s father (Aggie’s son) and her stepmother Constance, had left her behind when they took a vacation to Hawaii without her. So not only will this trip be an adventure, but unbeknownst to her father and stop mother, Blythe will also get to go on a secret beach vacation after all!
You will meet and fall in love with Aggie and Blythe and those they meet along the way. As with real life, the trip isn’t all sunshine and roses, but what in life truly is? Through friendship, hard work, and perseverance they will push through the hard times and tragedy and see the sunshine. I highly recommend you follow Aggie and Blythe on their Road Trip to Remember, you won’t be disappointed.
A Road Trip to Remember by Judith Keim is a story of a life-changing road trip. Agatha “Aggie” Robard talks her granddaughter, Blythe, into driving her from their home in Boston to Florida, to see old college friends along the way. One college friend in particular, Donovan Bailey, the man she was planning to marry after college but circumstances took them on different paths. Aggie hopes to show her serious granddaughter that life can be fun too. However, their trip needs to be a secret. While the rest of the family is in Hawaii on vacation, Aggie and Blythe set off. All goes well and it looked like they would be able to keep their secret. Until a series of accidents leads their lives on a path they never saw coming. Will this new path show them that there are new possibilities everywhere. I was expecting a story about an amazing road trip. However, the road trip takes place in the first third of the book and not much happens while on the road. It seems like the road trip was just to explain Aggie and Donovan’s history leading up to their reunion. Most of the events happen in Florida as Aggie and Donovan reunite. There was no real conflict with all the conflicts being resolved a bit too quickly. Everything is tied up in neat little bows with everyone happy and getting along. I didn't even feel a connection to any of the characters. The story was a bit too predictable and dragged in certain points. Overall, I liked the story and I enjoyed the premise that life is too short without some fun but it wasn’t the road trip story I expected.
A Road Trip to Remember is available in paperback, eBook, and paperback
Even though this is a series, each book is just an unique as a seashell. The cottage plays a role in all, and we see some characters from previous books by Ms. Keim as well. But don't worry, each can be easily read as a stand-alone.
Aggie is a young-at-heart senior citizen who, having just moved into a retirement community, wants to take one more road trip to Florida, stopping along the way to visit with her friends from college. The ultimate destination is to meet up with Donovan, her former love, the one that got away.
Blythe is Aggie's granddaughter, and Aggie enlists her to take the wheel for the road trip. Blythe is also at a pivotal time in her life, getting out of a relationship, graduating business school, and deciding on her next steps.
Florida, and especially Seashell Cottage, work their magic and soon Donovan and Aggie are engaged. Donovan's young friend, Logan, is between jobs, interested in Blythe and a potential job in Boston, the same place as where Blythe lives. Blythe's Dad is involved in a bad car accident, and Logan is enlisted to take his place in the family company during his recuperation. Convenient, since Blythe is learning to take over leading the company when Aggie retires; but inconveniently, the company has a no-dating policy.
I don't do spoilers, so this is as far as I go. It's a lovely book, well-written and edited. Highly recommend.
Thanks to the author and publisher for an ARC of A Road Trip to Remember, but my opinions are my own.
When Aggie, an older woman of means, decides to go on a road trip, she ropes her granddaughter Blythe into going with her. Aggies son and his grasping wife have somewhat forced Aggie into a senior living facility and bumped Blythe from a family vacation to Hawaii. Aggie tells Blythe that she has decided she wants to see her college friends after a planned reunion fell through. She has an ulterior that she doesn’t disclose-she want to find Donovan, her first love and the man she though she would marry at one time in her life. So off they go..... This is a sweet story about two people who are at different parts in their lives but both are at crossroads. Aggie is looking for closure from old friends who might not be around much longer and especially from the man who deeply hurt her so many years before. Blythe has just ended a bad relationship, is getting ready to graduate from Cornell, and needs to decide if going into the family business is really what she wants. As is life, some of the reunions are poignant and some are joyous. When they finally reconnect with Donovan, his young companion, a friend of his adopted son, seems to have a connection with Blythe. All is well in their lives until Aggie has a fall and the good times end.Once everyone is back home including Donovan and Logan who come with them, another serious accident changes everyone’s future plans. I really enjoyed this book. It has very little spice but it tells a nice story about a family going through changes and discovering things about themselves both good and bad. There is enough romantic tension to make it interesting and even a sort of villain you can dislike. Apparently there are earlier books in the series and I will have to search them out after this enjoyable read.
A Road Trip to Remember was such a fun read. After agreeing to enter the New Life Assisted-Living Community outside of Boston, Agatha “Aggie” Robard talks her devoted, serious granddaughter, Blythe, into driving her to Florida, stopping to see old college friends along the way. Aggie particularly needs to speak to Donovan Bailey, the man she’d thought she would marry right after graduating from college. Aggie's son and his wife and kids went on a trip to Hawaii without Blythe so Aggie and Blythe set out for their Journey. Aggie meets up with several classmates on the way and wants to show Blythe there is more to life than just work, you need to have fun and excitement. When they finally get to FL she finally meets up with Donovan her college sweetheart. Donovan has always loved Aggie and didn't want to waste anymore time. They had to get back to Boston before the rest of the family got home from Hawaii but Aggie was dancing on the beach and fell. I don't want to give to much away but the story continues in Boston where Blythe graduates and takes over at the family business. This is just such an enjoyable read and shows how you need to have fun in life. The Road Trip to Remember will always have happy memories, surprises, and love as Aggie and Blythe meet others and discover new possibilities for everything they’ve ever wanted.
