Pax, heir to the throne, last wolf shifter in the kingdom, and mate to a woman who up until two days ago was mortal and off-limits, is facing the toughest challenge of his life. No, make that the two toughest challenges. Keeping his mate safe from the tyrant who has sent an army of released prisoners, the worst of the worst, after them. And resisting his desire for his mate, worried she’s still too weak for the power inside him.
He’s destined to fail at least one.
A whole kingdom away, the three other Elorsin brothers are in a race against time to retrieve the help they need and get back to Pax and the woman they’re desperately in love with. They’re pushing shit uphill in their efforts to get the support of the dignitaries and a sealer to return with them – but their biggest problem is a plot they’re not even aware of yet.
Read AFTER The True Histories.
Steam level Warning ~ There are no fade to blacks, so ladies prepare to swoon or glow red and skip a few pages, whichever is your style.
Alphahole warning ~ Pax has to learn not to be an Alphahole in this book, so expect some Alphaholing for the first act.
Trigger Warning ~ This book features an attack and attempted rape followed by the graphic… ah… killing, destroying, and annihilating of the attackers. The attempted rape has a ***** marker before and after, but the violence does not.
Cliffhanger warning ~ Because Power & Pentad is a two-part book due to its size, there **will** be a cliffhanger.

The only reason this book is rated 2 stars and not 1 is because the writing was good enough that I finished the book.
"Useless" - the entire book of more than 450 pages was useless. There was no plot, no character development and nothing new that readers did not know before. The entire book revolved around the following points:
Nothing really happened (again) and the plot is a huge mess.
475 page of useless plot and poor character development. Shade is stupid, and I’m led to believe that she’ll probably be the queen? Please 💀💀.The scale are predictable and stupid. Like how is it credible?!
I want to rant SO BAD about this book but it’s not worth my time.
This series has moved from “interesting” to “dumb” in 2 books and this is the 5th one.
Also, for an RH series, having the FMC spending the ENTIRE book with one guy is just odd, I get why they were separated I guess, but it was freaking boring.
These books are WAY to freaking LONG to be that boring.
DNF at 50% Loved the rest of the series SO much but this is just infuriating me now. FMC let's the guys get away with far too much crap, how can she go from being a mortal slave her whole life to being happy with guys who have no respect/compassion for mortals, servants or slaves??? Its 4 books in, grow a backbone. Can't imagine Pax getting the throne at the end of this series and not having servants that he constantly treats like crap and allowing mortals to be treated the same. Seth is the only unproblematic guy, Roarke isn't too bad, while Killian is happy to treat anyone like crap. All of the guys treat their allies like crap - despite supporting them through thick and thin and doing illegal and life threatening missions for them. They're never thanked, but quite often strangled/beaten if the guys’ tempers flare or they suspect ONE of their allies is conspiring against them. Also, Pax throws the FMC face down on the bed abruptly, causing her to have a panic attack and be triggered by memories of her abuse at the manor. Yet, while she's explaining why this triggered her and what it made her think of, she's cut short because Pax’s wolf is constantly saying “we said sorry. Time to have sex” and not given the chance to explain her past before they have to have sex. UGH

I loved the page count, characters and writing. But it lost whole 2 stars because there is no development. Nothing happens in this generous page count. Yes, it was easy to read, yes, I devoured it. But, cmon. Nothing? Really? Now I have to wait for next book and hope it will have more happening in it. And then wonder why it was split up in two books and why so mutch in this one couldn't have been edited out. Don't get me wrong, I love how long the book is and I am still in love with the series. But there should have been at least little more.
This is getting tiresome. Bummed this series could have been great. It's lackluster at best now. We read this in our book club and it caused quite the divide! Haha half think it's still great. Half are done.
This series continues to be one of my all time favorites. Kitten and Allure closed one part of our saga, and with Power and Pentad we have firmly moved into the next era. Shade is now something other... She’s a Saber but with powers that are slowly coming to light. Seth, Roarke and Killian are stuck at the White Castle while Shade is with Pax in the mortal realm. The big AND here... That pesky little intimacy problem they had before, well that issue has been removed. Now they are free to do as adults want to do. As I say that, YES I have a smile on my face because this has been a LONG time coming and my heart is SO HAPPY! I am gloriously happy admitting that I’m a fan girl, and I’m fully invested in these characters and their HEA. That said, there are still bad guys that need dealt with, new friends to meet and new places to explore. This world continues to be so immersive and the description of the apartment is FANTASTIC! I want to move in...
Power and Pentad Part 1 moves the series from sort of YA to adult with the barrier to Shade being with her men gone. Split between time with Shade and Pax and the other 3 at the castle, there are a ton of revelations. I adore this series because it is so immersive. I don't often re-read but this one always has things I didn't pick up on before. The addition of steam to the banter with her men doesn't take anything away from the overall story. I'm excited to see where this goes because Shade’s powers are pretty cool and that prophecy still has me scratching my head
This series started out so strong and then it ended up so weird. Can't decide if the author is trying to milk it for more books or what but in reverse harem it does not make any sense to separate the heroine from the guys for a book and a half!
So I wasn't really feeling this series at first because of all the similarities to The Curse of the Gods series but the more I read the more the story became unique and the more I started to enjoy it.
In it our Pentad has split up, Shade and Pax have gone to the mortal realm while Killian, Rourke, and Seth head off to the white castle to hopefully get an assignment or more seals so they can meet back up with Shade and Pax and ultimately have more time to train Shade before she has to face the white castle and all the dangers that await. But Hijinks ensue and best-laid plans and all that...
Also in this book, we finally stop our slow-burn relationship between Pax and Shade and they finally ignite! Oh, what beautiful fireworks they make!
This does end at a high point in the story although I wouldn't necessarily call it a cliffhanger, I am excited to dive into the next book though! I'm thoroughly addicted to this series now.
Holy cow!! Sooooo good! I love Killian he is my favorite. But Thane is so moving in to a close second and Pax its tied or slightly lower in third....we meet some new side characters...which is cool... and we finally get some sexy times!! Whooop Whooop! Shade is slowly learning how to be a saber with really no help from anyone...her power is still not quite evident to her or the others 🤔( I am trying not to give away anything...lol) it's just so good.. Pax goes thru a rough time trying to stay away from the white castle.... the cliffhanger is a little more steep in this one. But thankfully Amanda is already hard at work on book 6! CAN'T WAIT! Run 🏃♂️ and get this one!
This series is not getting better. What happened in this book that we didn't already know about? Redundant. No character development 😅
. . and I'm sorry but a RH where there's no 🌶️ until BOOK FIVE and only like one scene with one person, out of the whole book... no, this is not a RH 😂😂 I'm only reading the next books to see how this ends. I'm over it. Series started out great but has definitely lost the focus.
**I skimmed "Book 4" which should really be called book 3.5, it was sooo pointless.**
Meh—too many issues and I almost didn’t finish it (which is very odd for me)...the only reason I pushed through was that the prior books were so LONG and I feel I’ve invested too much time on these books already.
1) The overall plot to take over/kill Lithael is paper thin and vague. Even 4 agonizingly long books in, I’m still not clear on what the Elorsins or their rebels plan to actually do to prevent Lithael from using his DeathSeed powers (and the trapped souls).
2) Remind me why Pax and Shade had to go off alone? Why Shade couldn’t hide in the guys’ private quarters in the stable at the White Castle? And why, more importantly, couldn’t they pretend that Shade had been killed in an ambush (she was understood by everyone to still be mortal, aka easy to kill, so it stands to reason for the guys to pretend she was dead). Again, seemed unnecessary to put Pax through the whole “return seal” agony in an attempt to get Shade and Pax alone for sex.
3) Why aren’t they training Shade, again? At the very least, they know she’s a Saber, so they can help speed up her healing. Seems like a too-stupid-to-live moment for everyone to let Shade continue to bumble about.
4) Shade continues to do her very best impression of a rug—a pretty stupid one, at that. I mean, yes, she pushes back at Pax here and there, but her supposed determination doesn’t come through at all when it comes to self preservation. If I were her, I think I’d be pretty insistent I learn what my power is and begin to steadily manipulate it, as well as train. But instead, she seems content to just *shrug* and allow it to blast out of her at only the most life-threatening of moments (including her realizing she has a wolf). Book 4 has her still wallowing in her servant mentality (yes, I realize it’s only been weeks since the first book, but I’d hoped to see some character growth once the powers came to play). I dont expect her to suddenly be over a lifetime of whipping and subservience, but her “sit back and let the plot happen to her” inactivity is grating.
5) Pax, and all the guys except Seth, totally and 100% suck. They are all controlling and manipulative, with moments of tenderness slipped in between to keep Shade compliant. I don’t care that Roarke is sex on a stick or Killian is gruff and dangerous, they shove her about, actively keep her out of planning conversations, withhold important information from her, and generally underestimate her at every turn. They still treat her like a mortal, but WORSE because in this book they all love her (and to them, love = putting her in a glass cage).

I enjoyed this addition to the Shadows and Shade series. In terms of relationship-building, the focus is on Shade, Pax, and Thane since they're on the mortal side together waiting for the other Elorsins. Their relationship needed more understanding, knowledge, sexy times ;), and communication, which happens. Shade does end up using more of her powers, but just like with the guys, she's the last of her kind so it's not like someone's here to teach her how to do anything or what it means.
The other Elorsins end up dealing with a lot at the White Castle and it's not good. I'm hoping that once the pentad is all together again that everyone sits down and lays all the cards on the table, especially in front of Shade. She has bits and pieces still when she needs the full picture. We do get a bit more insight into Seth's past in this book and it's heartbreaking. Roarke, Killian, and Seth also all need to stop whichever version of fighting the idea of bonding/loving Shade each is doing, lean into it, and hop on.
There are also some point of view chapters from Jada that I don't want to spoil but were enlightening and exciting and not because of her.
I'm excited for Part Two where I *hope* we get the pentad together fairly quickly, that we see more bonding, I want Shade to meet Kyra (I need it actually), that Rose gets some friend Shade-time, and that there's more of a balance of something going right/accomplishment in the second part, which I will definitely be reading. This is a great series, even when the characters don't do what I want/yell at them to do.
I just can’t life right now. I’ve read this book 3 times already (yes, I know it just released, but that’s a perk you get when you’re an Elite in Amanda’s pack, so go join the wolves and work your way up :)). Lost my train of thought.. oh yes, I’ve read this book 3 times now and it’s still left me unable to “life” at the end. This book is POWERFUL y’all. I cried, I laughed, I laughed so hard I cried, I yelled bad words in the car rider line at school and got some major side-eye from the (oh so hot) principal, I feared, I rejoiced, I pondered, I gagged, I cried some more, I worried, but most of all, I yelled “NOOOOOOOO!! DON’T STOP NOW!! ” come the end. And all of that may or may not be in the correct order it happened. All I really know is that a LOT went down in the few days that we get through in this book and our favorite girl and guys are in some major trouble. Power & Pentad does end on a bit of a cliffhanger, so if that’s not your jam, you may want to hold off on reading until part 2 is ready to go (and we’ve been told that the date set on Amazon will definitely be moved forward so don’t fear having to wait that long). Just as with every other book in the ShadowVerse, Power & Pentad is full of the magic only Amanda is capable of creating, but it’s different in that we’ve finally progressed to some steamy scenes!! Whoop, whoop!!! I cannot wait for part 2, I NEED MORE SHADE NOW! Please?
I really enjoyed reading this, and I appreciated that the author included both trigger warnings at the beginning of the book, as well as cues during the reading.
We got to spend a lot more time with Pax and thereby Thane. I adore Thane. I think it’s because I adore Seth. Like Seth is my #1. And hurting Seth was just unacceptable. I just want to know he’s okay.
We get to see Shade’s Alpha taking root and the beginnings of her wolf are showing. I hope this character gets developed quickly because I want to know Thane’s reaction to her.
Our Pentax is separated for the entire book, but they found a cute way to communicate so that was fun.
We also met Jaxx and his lover Ben. And surprise they’re coming with us back over the border!
Other than that, there isn’t much that drives the plot forward. This one was more character development for Pax, which I’m fine with. I just wish I liked him a little more. His Alpha is just too stubborn. Like he won’t even take time to explain things when Shade asks. He just gets exasperated with her. I’m not a fan of instalove, but he just seems so mercurial. And almost like he’s still keeping his distance even though they’re sleeping together now. The “I like you fine” line just… ugh. His bond should be the strongest because it was there first and he’s Alpha, but her strongest connection I still think is Seth.

The best book in the series so far, by far. I loved it, devoured it, and had a hard time putting it down in order to go to my day job.
The character development, especially the relationship between Shade and Pax, is excellent. I also really enjoyed Shade's journey exploring her newfound powers, how they interact with Pax's, and how she can influence the world around her. All leading up to that critical scene with Jaxx and Ben.
Being back in the mortal world, Shade also finally got a bit of agency back, though Pax fought her every step of the way. It was satisfying to see her take control when she needed to, especially of her own body. Nothing was more satisfying that Pax finally seeing Shade as an equal.
While I would prefer the Pentad to be together, the split POV's worked for the story. And the goings-on at the White Castle were interesting enough to keep me engaged, even when the spotlight wasn't on Shade. I loved the intrigue with Rose, Teegan, and the other Triunes, as well as Jada. I eagerly await seeing how that shakes out.
Finally, the unexpected communication device was my favorite part of the entire book. It opened up a new side of several characters. The exchanges were sweet, funny, but also necessary. I look forward to more in book 6.
I loved the world that the author created and the first two books were captivating. For me, I think book three started losing steam. I didn't care for the way the other women the guys past lovers showed up on book three and how the Allure got tempted to sleep with the other women cause he needs to release his sexual craving to not hurt the heroine. Of course, he stopped but still he did not told off the OT women when she told him to find her if he needs to released.
The plot was repetitive with the constant heroine feeling weak, being a slave, and the actions/humor was lacking on both book 3/5. The ending was great on book three though. Except, book five lost the great ending of book three. It dragged and the storyline got boring. The way the group got separated and didn't interact just ruined the series. The addition of other characters P.O.V. was not needed. This was not a Pentad but a twentad or threntad since all five were not even together. Basically, this book is a filler.
I definitely lost some interest though when the series was seemingly stalled with the histories book and then power & Pentad split. I only read this now knowing that P&P 2 is coming out imminently.
Now on to the good stuff. I was also skeptical about this book because of the pentad splitting up and it being only mostly about Shade and Pax. But…. It worked. I really loved seeing them both grow and learn and love through the book, meeting interesting and not so interesting characters along the way. And hatred of Jada of course and her selfishness.
This book was loooooooooooooooooong and if Pt.2 is similar then I can totally see why the author broke it into sections. I just can’t wait to see/find out what/who Shade is, have her finally get with the other Elorsins and defeat the evil king. And live happily ever after… in one book. Maybe there will be more parts but I hope it’s not rushed for the sake of finishing the story after waiting for so long.
Still one of my favorite series to date and in this installation we finally get some sexy scenes and the best part is definitely all of the guys trying to figure out how the mortal fertility cycle works heheheee. Just wish there had been more Seth and Vexy time as Seth is my favorite. But despite my desire to see more dynamics between the two characters the way Amanda laid out the story made complete sense and anything else wouldn't have worked. I this installation we get to see Shade start growing into her powers with her realizing it to some extent. It also introduces two new people who I am super excited to see how they will fit into the story. This book in the series really focuses in on Shade and Pax and their relationship and who they might be together once they find their common ground. This story was thrilling, hot, sweet, and loving and I am super excited to see where the next installation takes us.
Holy Smokes!!!!!!! This was an amazing part of the series. It is jammed packed with so much action, drama, suspense. It has me on the edge of my seat with anticipation. It is has new characters joining the mix and I just love them added to it. They add so much to the story. We learn so much abut Pax and Than in this story as well as get to see sides of them we haven't seen of them before. It is is extremely well written and boy is the flow of the story amazing. Killian, Roarke, and Seth show how close they are and how much they care about each other. It is one fantastic story and it is one that is a must read. Shadow is amazing as she has grown so much in this one. Seth had me laughing so much at times with his wonderful Chaos that he can do. I am in love with the characters so much that it just needs to more of them. I am so excited for the next book in the series and I can hardly wait for it.
Great writing and the story wasn't bad, but the thing is, it was kind of pointless. I feel like this is half a book, don't get me wrong, I really liked it (especially you know) but it feels like it's half finished and now I have to wait a year to know what's going to happen and I am so frustrated. Maybe it's because I see all the books in the Shadows and shade series as battles in a big war, and until now they have won, and at the end came out stronger, but in this book it was defeat after defeat after defeat and everyone was everywhere doing everything except what they were supposed to do, I feel like some of the choices they made were so so SO STUPID that I just wanted to slap some sense into them. This whole book felt like a ChaosSeed was working against them.

Im enjoying this series, even though more than half of the book is filler and there’s just so little plot development or new information.
Im also getting bored, this is getting too repetitive and slow.
There was more depth and growth to Seth’s and Pax (Pane) characters, not that much but at least a little, but Roarke and Killian were left out.
The RH relationship was so unbalanced, the relationships were left to the back burner and with the amount of books in this series I was expecting more depth and connection between the characters.
Im once again disappointed with Shade, yes she got her powers and her wolf but was there any real controlled use of them? No. Did she grow a backbone or is it just the wolf?
Holy brawls that was an epic read!!! So much happens and that cliff is steep!!!
The truly nice thing about this book though is that we finally get to have some steamy scenes. I don’t know about anyone else, but I need some steam to go along with stellar plot lines and hawt book boyfriends.
A lot of new information is revealed in this book too. This adds to the never ending list of questions to be answered and of course tasks to be completed by Shade and her guys before the happy ending can come to fruition.
No way will part two of this book be the end of the series though. Far too much needs to happen. Which on the one hand makes me very happy cause yay more books! On the other hand however, I’m chomping at the bit to get to read how it all plays out.
I am completely obsessed with this world Amanda has created! I love all the characters, from the Heroes and their pets to the Villains and their henchmen. There is so much detail placed upon each person, each emotion, I feel like I'm right there with them. I am not too proud to admit I cried during this book, and with all the dark reads on my kindle, that is a tough feat to accomplish.
And did I mention the sex?! I'm still goo. The fact that I'm able to form complete sentences is a miracle. This book was everything I hoped for. Thank you!
Soooooo Great!! I can’t wait for the last book to come.
This is the continuation of Shade and her guys story. Where they are trying to protect her and her them. Evil is still out there and thinks they have the upper hand, where the guys are trying to get there ducks in a row to overcome the evil.
There are side players who have parts in this story that are important on how this all plays out. Not sure how, but it’s going to keep this story very interesting.
I have such a love hate thing with this book, it was really good but drove me nuts in some parts. For instance I do not care about Jada, nothing inside of me wants to sit through any more chapters to do with her. We could have had more time with the guys but no, here’s a chapter on Jada the one person no one cares about.
I cannot wait for the next book! I need to read about Seth and about all of them being a group again. I’ve definitely missed the dynamic of them in this book. The next one can’t be released soon enough!
I had missed this world and the characters immensely. The way their specific gifts play against one another and the way they have learned to balance and care for one another is amazing. There are some dark aspects and this one hurts, deeply. Still well worth it for me, but Amanda does an excellent job giving explicit trigger warnings so read them and keep yourself safe. The world building is wonderful! Can’t wait to see what happens next!
I'm disappointed that I read this so fast and now left waiting for the next book. In this book we see more of the storylines coming together and moving forward. We see a lot more perspectives and motives from other characters in this book versus the other books. The downfall of this though is I felt like Shade was put on a backburner. We get glimpses of her new self but they were very brief. Overall this was a fantastic addition and I can't wait for the next one.
I couldn’t wait to dive back into Shade’s adventures and this book did not disappoint! I liked the bond Pax and Shade now have and no spoilers but a big secret which is so cool! I was a little disappointed we missed out on full pentad Elorsin bonding but I guess that’s what the next book is for. I’m glad we got to meet Kyra properly and see what she’s up to. I’m also pleased Shade’s origin powers are peeking out as she’s healing! She’s a proper saber now. All in all, can’t wait for the next book!
