Veronica, aka Ronnie, Parker’s life was headed in the right direction. After a near-fatal accident, she had to take a step back to reassess what she wanted out of life. The only thing missing was a man with the potential of starting a family. However, the only one that interests her wears a suit every day. Because of her previous relationship years ago, she made a vow to never ever date a man who wears a suit every day to work.
Finnegan, Finn, Larson returned from doing ten years in the Marines to take over the reins of his family’s foundation. After wearing camo every day, he donned a suit and knuckled down to learn the ropes. Before he even started working at the family business, he encountered a passionate woman that set him on fire. He couldn’t wait to meet her again. Unfortunately, the next time he met her he was saving her life from a near-fatal accident.
When they finally decided to get together, Ronnie’s past comes back and threatens not only her but her new life with Finn. Can their relationship survive?
The author is a good writer, however there were multiple things that caused me to give it a 3 star instead of a 5. First off the plot was great. I liked how she introduced each MC separately with their own scenes. I loved the elevator scene! However when the story started to develop I noticed a lot of repetition. Instead of giving a quick recap or a small reference to what the MC went through the author kept reiterating what she wrote in the previous pages when new characters were introduced. I also didn’t like how the MC’s grandfather told a bunch of unknown bikers what happened to his granddaughter, it seemed a little too much TMI to strangers. I also felt like there were inconsistency of her injuries and her healing time. Like she gets the cast off and almost returns back to normal with her walking and such. As someone who had a cast and crutches, there is some intense PT before I walked normal. The small side story with Patch was cute, but would have been better in his own book. I also didn’t like how the couple didn’t get together until like 70% in and when they did, the author tried to turn it into a BDSM type scene with Doms and subs. It started to turn me off the book. I also didn’t like they added the ex boyfriend for that quick scene just to cause extra drama. All of this made the ending feel pretty rushed. I would have like to see more of their relationship to develop. Besides all of that, I thought the storyline was great, it was something I haven’t read before. Good luck on the next book.
I wish I had words, but it's late in the evening. So, allow me to say what an amazingly moving novel. I loved how it centers around two individuals whom animals mean so much to, and not just dogs and kitties, all animals, including humans. The writing was enchanting and characters so rounded and real, secondary characters were a complete blast! I simply loved this novel, it leaves you feeling so completely positive! Patch ... PLEASE !!!!!!!!
This book made me laugh out loud in a couple places and it made me cringe in far too many others. To say it is unevenly written is to be polite. It’s almost as if it were written by different people. In places, it reads smoothly and well, where it is easy to get so into the characters that it feels as if we are looking in through a window, like happy little voyeurs watching others get on with their interesting lives. In other places, it is rough and in need of a thorough edit. There are errors throughout the book that force the reader out of the story to look back and question what had been written previously. There is an elevator scene where two of the main characters, the eponymous Veronica (“Ronnie”) and Finnegan (“Finn”), meet and greet. It is funny, so very laugh-worthy! But even here, errors are made – unfortunately! In the elevator, Ronnie says, “Do you have that card that stops the elevator without setting off the alarm?” When Finn is retelling the incident he says, “Before I could do or say anything, she slipped in and asked if I had the card thingy – her words, not mine – to stop the elevator without the bells and whistles going off.” She didn’t say “card thingy.” Also in the elevator, after a conversation on her phone she says to Finn, “Paige disappeared. He [Hector] thinks she headed up the hill.” But when she arrives at the farm, she asks Hector what's wrong, walks into the barn, stops at Paige’s stall and frowns. Hector (re)tells her that Paige is gone. This seems to be new information; both appear to have forgotten that they had had a previous phone conversation. Additionally, when Hector calls her a brat (with affection presumably), she says her grandmother said that, too, but the grandmother didn't. So much stilted (not to mention mistaken) dialog ruins the story and makes the characters seem unreal. Later in the book a “helio pad” at the hospital should be a “helo pad.” Helio is an aircraft manufacturer spelled with a capital H. And another inconsistency: Finn and his father are discussing some of the employees, two of which are apparently not worth much and have caused harm within the company. At that time the father appears to be in sync with his son in understanding how bad these employees are. Later, in another conversation, the father states he never suspected nor noticed the problem and wonders how long it had been going on. A secondary character in this book, Lorna, is presented here as a character different from how she is portrayed in her upcoming book. In her own book she is a real potty-mouth who switches to the term, “monk balls,” in order to curb her swearing. In this book, she is a much more positive and sympathetic character who does not swear at all…pleasantly so. At 41% book completion, I got tired of all the jarring inconsistencies and sped up my reading. At 47% completion, I started checking how far along I was in the book. The story got stale and repetitive. I cared about the characters, but not so much about the story. I think this book was written too fast, perhaps as some sort of bridge from one series of books to another, “Ronnie’s Meadow?” It needed – and still needs – editing and most definitely a good proofreading. It feels rough, as if it had been written, perhaps reviewed cursorily, and then sent on its way to hapless readers everywhere. It’s an OK read, worthy of a solid “C,” or 3-stars.
It's not every day you get held hostage in your elevator!
I love Ronnie and Finn, this is an awesome start to the series - I am not sure who I want to get their book next Patch, Grady or Lorna! Finn and Major completely sweep Ronnie off her feet but swapping his camo's for a suit cause Finn problems with Ronnie. Ronnie may be stubborn and determined to stay away from suits but she quickly realises Finn is different, not only with her but with her animals too. He may have stolen her heart but dare she give her love willingly? Finn may be a SEAL, he may be from a VERY rich family and he may wear a suit to work each day...but he is one of the most down to earth, approachable guys there is and he loves his dog, his partner completely...why would Ronnie want to resist their chemistry? Or him? I really enjoyed this book which I read on Kindle Unlimited.
The plot was what drew me to this book. While some parts were great, I felt most of it fell flat. There were a lot of inconsistencies in the book. And I felt that some parts were well written, others parts were rushed and thrown in for drama.
I liked Finn and Ronnie, but I didn’t feel the chemistry between them. The fun, flirty elevator scene was cute, but after it, the characters seemed to not act the same way. I didn’t get that Finn, the owner's son, was soo unknown to everyone that worked there. I get he was away for a long time, but when he got back, wasn’t he introduced to all the staff and managers? I just thought that was weird.
And when Finn and Ronnie went out on a date, months after their first meet, the author throws in that he’s a DOM and BDSM. Where did that come from? I was done at that point. I skimmed just to finish the book.
Ronnie and Finn totally made it onto my couples list! They’re super strong, passionate, and pretty chill about who they are and (mostly) who everyone else is too. I love how they don’t back down from being themselves or doing their thing. Family, work, love, and friendship are all over this book!! The story zooms by, mixing in some military vibes with cowboy stuff, and it all works like a charm. There’s romance, suspense, a bunch of laughs, some tears, hope, and love—like, what more could you want? Finn and Ronnie’s love story of two headstrong peeps is just spot on. This is my second series of ms Rowley's that ive read, and I’m hooked Thanks for the awesome read!
Saving Veronica : WOW! An amazing story! I liked Veronica's love for animals and taking care of them! I loved her energy for her, the vet clinic and her schooling to become a vet. I liked how Finn and Ronnie met and how well they connected. I loved that after he was done with the marines that he came home and at the airport he reconnected with old friend that didn't want to be with anyone else because that had a bond. Great story!
I loved this book from the beginning. It grabbed my interest early with humor, romance and mystery. The visuals created by the author were like seeing a movie while reading the story. I can hardly wait for the next book. I hope Patch and Lorna will be finding someone special for them in future books. I like books that make me laugh out loud when I read them.
Saving Veronica is the first book in a series called Ronnie’s Meadow by Deanna L. Rowley. Deanna is a new author to me. This book kept my interest all the way through. Ronnie is in the last part of her college year to become a Veterinarian. Wild mustangs are of special interest to Ronnie. When the pregnant mare gets loose from Ronnie’s barn, Ronnie saddles up her horse to track and bring the mare back to the ranch. The celebratory party Ronnie’s parents planned for her is disrupted when Ronnie can not be found. Finn takes part in the search. From here on is an amazing story with heaps of twists and turns with a love story woven within. Looking forward to reading more of this author as this series continues.
Ronnie and Finn met in the elevator, where Ronnie changed her clothes and she held Finn hostage. Ronnie was working on becoming a vet and Finn was taking over the foundation's work from his dad. Ronnie was on her last semester and Finn was trying to understand his role in the company.
Loved the plot, it has some interesting twists and turns. Some spots felt a bit confused but overall the story flowed well. I really liked the balance between heat, intrigue and heart. Would love to read more about Patch, Lorna and Grady. The mind spins with possibilities.
I gave it 5 stars as it grabbed me from the start. I love how the two main characters meet for the first time, hilarious! The only downside was that there was only 1 sex scene. If you like a somewhat clean military romance, this book is for you!
Thank you Veronica for this outstanding book. I had to finish it in one night and I can admit it brought a tear or two. You also gave some great advice to Lorna and I hope on the following months I’ll be able to follow it. All I can say that e everyone and anyone who is a Susan Stoker fan needs to read this.
Ronnie and Finn have made my couples list. They are strong, passionate and respect who they are and (mostly) who other people are. I like that they both are uncompromising about who they are and what they need to do. Fa.ily, work, love and friendship is infused in every page. This is my second Rowley book. Hooked.
Started it yesterday finished it just now. The action in book was constant romance was included as warranted not as filler waiting for next one about Patch I hope
I really enjoyed this story. It's a great love story, an upcoming veterinarian, a former military man and k-9 handler. This is the kind of book that brings you back for more.
This is the first time I have read a book by this author. I was extremely impressed with the well thought out story as well as the characters. I can't wait for the next book.
Wow, I loved this book. The characters and settings simply leaped off the pages. I laughed and cried while reading this book. This was a new author for me, but I can't wait to read more of her work as this book was truly an awesome adventure . 😉
Loved this story! I love a good strong female, alpha male combo. Her love of animals warmed my heart. There journey was intense. I highly recommend this story to others.
She held him hostage in a elevator he rescues her and gives her his heart
I would recommend this book and series for mature readers (sexual situations, and violence) that enjoy reading stories that are at times funny, steamy, suspenseful, and romantic.
Plenty of adventure as Finn and Ronnie navigate their relationship helped by family, friends and many animals. New to this author but once you pick up a book hard to put it down.
This is the first book I’ve read by Deanna Rowley but it won’t be the last. The story rattles along at a good pace with plenty of action. I loved all the animals especially Major and Captain . Onto book 2.
I really enjoyed this book, loved all the characters both 2 and 4 legged, I really hope there will be more books from Deanna L. Rowley, a new author for me.
