We’re finally back to see where everyone is and how they are faring as Sam and Tina’s wedding day approaches, Thea and Shaun are off on a new adventure as they are the co-experts on a new dig for a television program – with a new ‘producer’ who’s put everyone on edge. Helen’s time at the Grange is soon over as she has to return to her job at the Roman Baths, and her relationship with Tom, his young son still undetermined but an offer to write a book and the fact she really doesn’t want to go all combine to give us plenty of drama. Mable is still a rockstar and Bert is marvelous- but even their foundations are rocked as Bert is ill, and Sam’s desire to visit with him in the hospital conflicts with his anxieties, adding to his worries about being ‘enough’. Of course, Tony Stark and his girls are present and providing moments of ‘advice’ and allowing Tina to talk out her issues – and plan the wedding venue in full sight of the ‘girls’.

But we have much more interior voices and thoughts here – from Shaun’s discomfort with the new producer and his ‘attitude’ toward Thea, to Thea’s grating at the interference – and missing her home at Mill Grange – despite the rather spectacular finds that this current dig has unearthed for film. And some things you just need and want your friends about – as Tina is struggling with Sam’s parents and an apparent desire they marry at his family’s estate – much to both of their consternation. Tina is feeling the loss of her parents and Thea – while she and Helen are developing a rapport, things aren’t quite the same. And Helen has her own worries between her attraction to Tom and her worries that she won’t be about – not to mention Tom’s own insecurities and worries with his son and his former partner’s behavior. It’s a veritable plethora of moments, even as we get glimpses of the Roman past in Britain through the dig that Thea and Shaun are on, there are moments about the fortlet, the dig at Mill Grange and the book proposal for Helen that bring us back to the core of the story – coming together through the archaeological and restoration projects to teach, to learn and to heal.

I’m a huge fan of this series – and just noticed (yep – that I did) that the books are ‘seasonal’ so I am hoping that there will be a winter/Christmas story that will bring us full circle and allow us to see these friends that have become family through to another season. Kane’s ability to build these characters: real, flawed, strong and resilient makes them compelling and people that you want to know – and are always happy to see them return again and again.

I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Feel-good reading

The Mill Grange books offer a bit more than the usual romance - the characters have, on the whole, functioning brains. Except, of course, where there other halves are concerned, as everyone manages to put the worst possible interpretation on every event - because, otherwise, there wouldn't be a story, would there? Enjoyable reading, with just a tiny bit of archaeology thrown in. I wonder if behind-the-scenes on Time Team is this tempestuous?

Another brilliant instalment in the Mill Grange series. It was lovely being back in the beautiful area of Exmoor and to be involved in the characters lives once again. Being bossed around by Mabel sounds wonderful. Jenny Kane’s writing is brilliant and manages to involve you in the story completely as you laugh and cry along with the individual characters. Such a lovely read.

Spring Blossom at Mill Grange is the third instalment following Midsummer Dreams at Mill Grange Autumn Leaves at Mill Grange by Jenny Kane.

I have not previously read the Mill Grange series, but it can be read as a stand-alone novel.
It is a beautifully gentle yet pointed, and amusing yet thoughtful, feel-good relationship tale.

Based in the Exmoor countryside of Upwich a group of friends from all walks of life provide a rehabilitation program for veterans, such as the manor’s owners Tina and Sam

The book revolves around the lives of four couples Tina and Sam, Shaun and Thea, Tom and Helen, Bert and Mabel, including other characters within the storyline. Each of them has past haunts and face tough challenges but through perseverance, friendship and support they draw strength from each other.

Helen will soon have to say goodbye to Tom as her sabbatical comes to an end, returning to her job at Roman Baths; their relationship is uncertain, as much as Tom is in love with her both have a hard time acknowledging and expressing their feelings. Tom needs to take into consideration his son Dylan who gets on well with Helen as well as having to deal with an interfering ex. Amongst the relationship drama; Sam and Tina’s wedding is fast approaching with added stresses to make the day perfect. Thea and Shaun are to embark on a new adventure as co-experts on a dig for a new television show with an irksome producer. Mable and Bill are a solid unit until Bill is hospitalised and worrisome times lay ahead as they both feel anxious and overwhelmed for his wellbeing.

Jenny writes with empathy, and the extra sparkle of romance and wit is delightful. Her writing skill feels as though it is grounded in reality and you find yourself connecting with the characters. A lovely easy read novel to be curled up on the couch with.

I will definitely be purchasing the first two novels; I want to know how their lives entered Mill Grange and how relationships evolved. A fourth book will conclude the series.

Thanks to Beauty & Lace and Harpers Collins AU for the opportunity to read and review.

Spring Blossoms at Mill Grange by Jenny Kane

Blurb

Helen Rogers has been lying to herself over her feelings for Tom since the moment they met. And for good reason; not only are they colleagues, working together with the archaeology groups at Mill Grange, but her sabbatical is almost over and she'll soon have to return to Bath.

Tom Harris knows he's falling in love with Helen. How could he not? She's smart, kind and great with his son Dylan. But with his ex suddenly offering him a chance to spend more time with Dylan, and the staff of Mill Grange about to host a wedding, everything else has to be put to one side. Even his feelings for a certain archaeologist.

As Helen's time at Mill Grange runs short, the two are forced to consider what matters most...

My Opinion

I am loving this series and kind of sad that I have now read the entire series (I read book four first). Whilst each of these books can be read as a standalone the series works much better when read in order. All of these characters feel like friends and it was nice to once again be welcomed to Mill Grange.

A gentle, feel-good read with such a lovely writing style. After completing this series I am looking forward to seeing what else Jenny Kane has to offer.

What a fantastic story this was, I loved it from start to finish. This is a well written, truly delightful read, set in Exmoor, in the fictional town of Upwich, Jenny conjures up the feel of the area and the people who live there perfectly. Jenny Kane's expressive descriptions of the area certainly bring it to life.

The book revolves about the lives of four couples, Tina and Sam, Shaun and Thea, Tom and Helen, and Bert and Mabel, each of them is intrinsic to the story and the running of Mill Grange. I loved catching up with the lives of the people from Mill Grange and the characters themselves in this series of books. They are well rounded and I felt like I know them well, like old friends. Seeing how their lives and relationships are evolving was wonderful.

This is a really easy read which definitely had me smiling and maybe I did shed a tear or two, as well. This the third story from the Mill Grange series and I really recommend reading them all. I will be waiting impatiently for the next instalment.

My second book by Jenny Kane. This one was king and drawn out. I didn’t really like the previous book due to all the anxiety the characters exhibited. This books shows them getter better, still not great, but on the mend.

Thank goodness Sam & Tina didn’t fall apart when everyone else around them lost their way to the crazy thoughts and created more anxiety for them and those around them. I guess there wouldn’t be a story with all that fuss.

Sue heading off without Dylan was predicable when she dropped off most of his belongings- How Helen got that Di wrong sill never know. She’s so naive.

I was waiting for the bride and groom to finish the book with a wedding dance. A disappointing ending. It’s not like they’d abstained until the wedding night for crying out loud. Where was the note left? In the field ….. so poor old Tina has to have a wedding night in the field 🙄 I’m sure Jenny could have classes up the ending.

Thank you NetGalley, Jenny Kane and Aria & Aries for the ARC of Spring Blossoms at Mill Grange.
This is my personal review.
Spring Blossoms at Mill Grange is the third book in the Mill Grange series. I have not read the first two in the series.
Helen has been trying to convince herself that she does not have feelings for Tom. She has told herself they are just friends and she is leaving to return to Bath after her sabbatical is over.
Tom is certain that is loves Helen. She is absolutely everything her wants in a woman. Life has other things in store for him. He has a decision to make that can give him what he wants.
I enjoyed reading this book and getting to know Helen and Tom.

I loved this story from beginning to end. This is such a well written book and is a delight to read. Set in and around Exmoor Jenny Kane, a local herself, brings the area to life for the reader.

This is book three in the Mill Grange series and I loved catching up with the characters and seeing what was happening in their lives. The four couples who live and work at Mill Grange, each have their own problems and dilemmas going on, from wedding plans, misunderstanding and upsets. This all weaves together to make a lovely story and a highly enjoyable read.

I highly recommend this lovely story and the previous two, as well.

Lovely to be back at Mill Grange and to catch up with everyone and hear what has been happening. Sam and Tina have their wedding to arrange, Shaun and Thea are filming an episode of Landscape Treasures, Tom and Helen are finally getting together or maybe not. Learning about archaeological techniques is a bonus and I love the location and descriptions of the area. Dylan is a sweet little boy but Bert and Mabel stole my heart. Can’t wait to read book 4 as this series just gets better and better ❤️

This is the 3rd book in the Mill Grange series, and I think it would be helpful to read the previous books first as I felt rather lost in some of the events and characters that are part of this book. Mill Grange is a large country home which has been converted to a safe retreat centre for injured army personnel. The story centers around the lives and loves of those who live in this lovely part of the UK.

This book is is part of a series of books at Mill Grange. Sam buys Mill Grange, renovates the house & opens it up to veterans to enjoy the long walks & also to try their hand at archeaology. A fortlet is found in the grounds which attracts people to Mill Grange. The story develops with interesting areas of archeaology, the people involved in Mill Grange & Sam & Tina's up & coming wedding.
The characters are likeable & interesting, which makes reading the series a pleasure. Enjoyable easy read.

Ah, Jenny has done it again ... I am already champing at the bit for book 4!

Back with the gang at Mill Grange is like meeting up with long lost friends. This time we find out if Helen and Tom finally see the light, Thea helps front Landscape Treasures and Mabel and Bert take on roles they never expected.

This is book three continuing the story and once again it was a fantastic read. I'm really enjoying the stories of the people who are connected with Mill Grange, and being part of their lives.
I'm already halfway through the fourth and final book, and I know this is a series that I'm going to miss when it ends.

Read if you're following the series - rather impossible to read as a stand alone. And even as a series, binge-read, because it's not easy getting back into who's who and what's what after a while (there's no lead-up/explanation in the story - just picks up and runs from the previous story/ies)
