Jak nauczyć dzieci dobrych manier

Rate this book
Dobre wychowanie bez nudy!

Dbałość o higienę i zdrowie? Pytań jest wiele, a wszystkie niezwykle ważne.

Zabawa i śmiech łączą pokolenia.

I love Paris and recently stumbled upon the author’s first book, Lessons from Madame Chic, an entrancing account of her time in the City of Light as a foreign exchange student. She self-published that very successful memoir and has gone on to develop a cottage industry of sorts with her subsequent books and online presence, a feat I hope to duplicate as I write my first memoir.

I also love the colorfully chic illustrations that characterize her covers, and that’s what drew me to her latest, CONNOISSEUR KIDS.

It’s an urbane guide to raising well-behaved children and one I’d love to give to every parent in the restaurant attached to our fave Starbucks. Each night, toddlers are let loose to run free in the connecting public space, yelling and doing gymnastics on nearby chairs and tables. When asked politely to mind their progeny, parents look aghast, as if one is asking them to effect world peace. All we really want is peace in our little realm as we quietly talk and sip our lattes. Is that too much to ask?

Not if Jennifer is successful with her latest foray into cosmopolitan good manners. I for one pray she succeeds, and will be singing her praises and that of this charming work. God bless you, Ms. Scott! 5/5

I enjoyed Scott's At Home With Madam Chic (which I read in August), but I absolutely adored this latest book of hers. It is an excellent resource for parents to read with children (kinder and older) as a primer to manners, etiquette, and respecting others. It was exceptionally practical and written in easy-to-understand language for children, yet didn't skimp on the information or depth. I learned a few things and definitely want to put into practice a lot of what I read as Elliot grows up. This will be a book I will definitely revisit. Topics include table manners (including how to set the table), general hygiene tips, various ways to be kind and helpful to those around you, communication (including the importance of eye contact), tidiness and chores. There are a ton of fun activities to help learn these lessons, such as silly rhymes, recipes, games, and prompts for writing.

It is a great book, fabulous in its simplicity and rich on joyful exercises and activities to practice good behaviours. The biggest advantages of the book are the creative approach to boring topics and the fact that it can be read by both parents and children. It is a practical guide without unnecessary theory which guaranteed your family productive parents-children time. Moreover, the book fit even for 3 years old children, however all reading here is solely parents’ task. In this case, storytelling and discussion based on book’s topics are better.

Jennifer L. Scott was a new for me author, but I surely will be reading her other books.

Thanks to the author and NetGalley for a review copy. All opinions are mine.

Loved this, as an adult. The exact kind of book I would have wanted to read as a child too! Hope my kids like it when they're a bit older

I have been a big Madame Chic fan for years. Jennifer Scott has written a great book on manners for kids. I would have loved this when I was 10 or 11. I think it's a bit over the head of my six-year-old son. But it's a great, fun resource. She has good object lessons and games for teaching some more grown-up concepts.

Thanks to NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you so much for this delightful educational children’s book! It is comprehensive, fun, easy to understand and ideal to share with one’s kids, and to start valuable discussions with them. I particularly love all the exercises and activities which help understand and apply the sound advice!
A must-read for parents and children, grand parents and teachers!

Great, accessible little book, written for a child (elementary school to middle school, most likely). I was expecting it to be more advice on raising polite children, but this will be a nice thing to return to when my dudes are older. For now, modeling good manners seems to be the right tactic, and then I will force them to read this with me when they start school.

Went through this at the dinner table together. We all enjoyed it as great table conversations. Full of wonderful and needed conversations and etiquette to guide our children. My boys loved the game suggestions too!

Wow what a beautiful book! I don’t have kids yet but I love Jennifer Scott and wanted to read it anyway and I’m so glad I did. What a breath of fresh air! I’m an adult and still literally learned so much from this book about living well!
I also learned practical tips for cleaning and routine, and honestly can’t recommend it enough for people with children. I can only imagine how this book will enrich the lives of children and help them cultivate heathy and happy lives well into adulthood. Thank you Jennifer for another inspiring read!

I implemented this gem into my children's home school Summer supplement! We had so much fun together! My husband joined in as well so we can be on the same page of teaching manners and such. I highly recommend this book!

Using a lot of this to get the homeschool year off to a good start and work through some of it through out the year. I love having lists and routines for my kids to follow, but making them is just not my favorite thing to do, so this was an easy help :) I will probably read sections of it to my kids, I think my younger girls not my tween and teen boys will resonate with it.....they just don't care as much about etiquette....it's good for them to learn and practice anyway.

This book is going to become one of our manuals for the grace and courtesy lessons! I enjoyed it a lot! There are so many good explanations and ideas for activities! It is a book appropriate for the +7-year-olds, but the younger children can also benefit from it. I can't think of a topic regarding children's manners not touched by this book. There's even a chapter on healthy living!

A great book for all

This is a nice comprehensive yet concise book of simple etiquette, healthy choice making, and wellness. I think a lot of these strategies work well as refreshers for adults too.

Love this book. Thanks to Chronicle and Net Galley for the ARC. This book is a basic etiquette book, covering topics from manners to hygiene. All the topics are explained in age-appropriate language that is entertaining to read. There are cute illustrations and tidbits about various subjects and famous people that have played a role in the development of etiquette through the years. Like a book for adults, this book contains information, recipes, tips, sample ideas, and more. I recommend this book for all families and it would be a good resource for classrooms, scouting, or other children's groups.

I liked this book even though my kids are raised. I bought each of my daughters one and really wanted to read it. I like the way Jennifer is so thorough in her writing and that she did NOT dumb the book down for kids. About 1/2 of our Grands are old enough for the book and the others will have to grow up a bit, but can certainly learn it by example. I liked the recipes for food and for play.

Didn’t find anything of much use in this book. I am not sure who the target audience are. I am not sure kids would want to read this book and there is not much for parents as most of what is mentioned is already known to adults.

i don't have kids. i was a kid at one time. i am 47 now ...when i find books that i really enjoy. what i love about this book. i wish almost there was a version for adults ... so many adults would read this ... even if you don't have kids etc. so many folks are missing a lot of these ideal items within their lives: etiquette, manners, and living well ... point being how to provide it without out right saying you are a goober head. i know Mrs. Connoisseur would never say that quite like that ... lol!! she is great on YouTube. enjoy her videos so so so much, but i must be honest, what are their lives like truly and for real. i know how i was raised and thank the heaven i was ... not saying we didn't ever do wrong or need to adjust how we dealt or could deal with moments within our daily lives as a kid ... but you live and learn. a lot of these tidbits would make the world so much better if more folks would add them to their daily lives. i got this from Amazon as a used book. i can not buy new all the time. the $$$ are sadly to high for my liking. i think if i do recall i found it for shipping and cost of book under 7 dollars. and i am happy to pass it on ... to help others. if i knew a young kid ... (parents, who had kids) all parents i know who have kids (all are at least late teens and early adults, wish i had found it sooner) like i always say when you are kind, doesn't mean you truly like some, it means you are kind and treat folks with respect, every1 deserves respect. liking and loving someone is so not the same thing. make sense? what i really enjoy are the "spotlight on" sections throughout they are items i don't or didn't know. i love learn. no matter the age learning is so important. i have several more of Jennifer's books coming (used 1's) can't wait to read them. i love it. wish i could give it a high star rating. a giftable book for sure. so well packaged and great for the eyes. so cool. enjoyable.

Dobre wychowanie naszych pociech

Każdy rodzic pragnie by jego dzieci były dobrze wychowanymi małymi ludźmi. Trzeba czasu, uwagi i cierpliwości, a przede wszystkim miłości by wychować naszego szkraba tak, by w przyszłości stał się on mądrym i kulturalnym dorosłym.

Zauroczy Was swoim wydaniem i nie zanudzi zawartością. Polecam !

Za egzemplarz do recenzji dziękuję wydawnictwu Literackiemu.

A friend gave me this book as a gift, and similar to as when the same friend gave me another by this author, I wondered if she had lost her mind. I have young children and ‘connoisseur’ is definitely not the word that comes to mind when I think about life with young children. But, as I always say, I give every book a chance because I think you can learn from anyone’s story. There is always something of worth to be learned. I see this book for being best for kids in perhaps their early teens or preteens. It teaches some good lessons for adults and children alike.
Some of the most noteworthy things I got from this book follow…
The antidote (or solution) to selfishness is thoughtfulness. Thoughtfulness and serving others doesn’t come naturally and can often be the hardest choice to make. It’s easier just to be selfish and fulfill our own wants first.
The spell your name exercise would kick my butt.
The section on using kind words seems especially necessary these days. All people, not just kids, need to learn about how to counteract mean words with kind words and that gossip is speaking negatively about people when they are not there to defend themselves. Perhaps there should be an adult version of this book!
And, the final lesson of the book is one of the most needed in this day and age. It talks about the importance of laughter. We all need more laughter and fun in our lives. Let’s try not to take ourselves too seriously and learn once again how to laugh and have fun.

While I hate to give this author such a low rating because I’ve enjoyed all her other books, this is an exception. I don’t think I’ve read a more boring book. Rather than use illustrations to show how to do a workout move, for instance, she tries to describe how to do it with words. Unfortunately, she does this with most things in the book-she tells rather than shows. She also doesn’t really include any useful information. Everything is very basic and not the sort of information a child or adult is going to read. When she has the chance to spice things up, she doesn’t. For example, she could have included lists of recommended books for different age groups in her section on reading, but she doesn’t. That is a missed opportunity. There are a lot of cringe wordings and examples in the book, too. An editor should have helped her make this book more creative and less textbook with a fresh take on things. (Even the recipes are basic, like plain avocado toast; no special twist on it at all, and she doesn’t even suggest the use of everything-but-the-bagel seasoning)

Different than her other (adult oriented) books. Same gentle, elegant approach to life but targeted to children.

I LOVE this book! Age appropriate content and language, so you can read it aloud with/to your little one. Every few pages there are fun physical activities to help teach children the lessons in the book - walking with good posture, looking people in the eyes when you speak, cleaning up and more! Highly recommend this to manner-minded parents of children ages 3-10.

Attractive format and font.

Looking forward to reading with my 6-year old!

No religious references or direct mention of God. But the author seems to have unstated sensitivity to those areas. I wouldn't be surprised if the author is deeply catholic, but wrote this for a secular audience. I know she homeschools her children and is christian. This books lacks the usual questionable modern moral commentary, yoga & new age references. Actually kid safe!

I have read a few of Jennifer's other "connoisseur" books and was glad for this one, as I now have children too. It is meant for children a bit older who are able to follow instructions, some of the suggestions I found rather generic under "good manners", rather than personalized or based on you setting the example as the parent.
Nonetheless it opened up some ideas of ways I might find to get my children involved, and stressed the importance of a sense-of-self confidence being nurtured from a young age- things like communicating/ and eye-contact, which I myself would have benefited from mastering when I was young (and still struggle with to this day).
A pleasant flip through guide that can be read in 30 minutes.

Challenge: Curious Reader's 2020 Non-fiction - Childhood reminiscence (9). Reading this book points out the amazing amount of things that we as humans need to learn how to do to maintain ourselves and interact with others. Importantly, the book begins with communication with others and ends with activities to do other than looking at 'screens'. Great lessons for children and a nice review for us all. Learning good habits in six major areas of our lives gives children the tools needed to feel comfortable in daily situations, to become independent persons, and to show themselves and others respect. Includes great activities, projects, recipes, and things to do as a family.

I loved reading this to our kids during homeschool this year. This clever book is filled with lots of wisdom and ideas to help kids realize the importance of living in a way that loves and respects others well and helps them take care of their own bodies and spaces too. It was written well and the kids could follow along with ease. They also would beg for one more chapter to be read (which is always a good sign of a good book!). We all loved it. I loved the ways the authors gave practical ideas and ways to practice each principle or topic in this book.

Connoisseur Kids... an introduction for children on manners, hygiene, and preparing meals. The book is marketed toward privileged middle class families, and offers great suggestions applicable to kids of all ages. The chapter lessons can encourage younger students to help around the house, kindness to peers, and personal hygiene. Very thorough, good discussion starter. Recipes at the end of the book were confusing; I don't know any kid who would want to make any of the dishes.

I think this book should be in every home and school. Etiquette and manners were.very important in my life growing up. I have passed it down to my children and granddaughter. It is very sad to see the loss of manners and politeness. Proper daily hygiene has become a thing of the past. I think a lot of parents today need to read this before their child. Entitlement has replaced common sense and empathy. We need to go back to the days of parents were parents and children are children.

Thought this was thorough and practical, but kind in tone. Etiquette might be a fancy-schmancy word but this book is never condescending. I borrowed a copy from the library but am considering a purchase for my collection.
