How many letters do you see around you? All 26 and then some is the answer in this gorgeous picture book that teaches little ones the alphabet during a journey through Seattle. The tour guides are everyone's favorite excitable pooch, Larry, and his owner, Pete. This new entry in the popular Larry Gets Lost series finds the plucky duo experiencing all that the Emerald City has to offer. They visit the Seattle Aquarium, the Woodland Park Zoo, and Lake Union, and learn about houseboats and hydroplanes, geoducks and viaducts, even evergreens and coffee! Bright colors, witty retro illustrations, and two endearing hosts make this an entertaining way for children who are visiting or live in Seattle to learn the alphabet.
John Skewes is the author and artist behind the popular Larry Gets Lost series for children. The first title in the series, Larry Gets Lost in Seattle, has sold over 20,000 copies and delighted both children and adults with Larrys misguided adventures and Skewes vibrant retro-inspired art. "
I got this on my trip to Seattle as a souvenir for my kids (almost 3 and 5). I think it is a great way to add context to my pictures and where I was. Cute illustrations and applications of the letters!
This book would be great fun for teaching young Seattle kids and visitors the ABC’s around the city. The boy Pete and his puppy Larry walk around Seattle to see what letters they can find in the neighborhood landmarks. “C is for coffee, found on every corner.” “I is for interstate 5, Seattle’s biggest road.” The illustrations are bold, bright and charmingly retro. They would be bold and noticeable for younger readers, as well as have enough small details for more fun observations in the illustrations for older kids. Often the images of Pete and Larry are small silhouettes, but they can be spotted riding the monorail and climbing Queen Anne Hill. This book is a fun local twist on the old standard ABC book and can be enjoyed by kids and adults alike.
This book is all about Seattle! Never been there but feel like I know all of the main attractions after reading this book. Children will go through their ABC's and learn about a corresponding Seattle attraction associated with each letter. The book is retro, colorful, and a wonderful addition to your collection of books about the many cities in our United States...while also learning their ABC's! Win, win, highly recommend!
