The plot of "Angel" only happened in less than an hour, but Shea wrote it so detailed that you'd feel you're reading a week's worth of story and you're so into the story that the only thing that matters is whatever Shea writes next.

Similar to many films, the story jumps from the present to the past and vice versa. We were introduced to Oscar, Gracie, and Felipe.

Oscar has a confession to make. Gracie has news to break. Felipe has nothing, or so we thought.

As usual, Shea's writing style is setting you up for a twist in the end. A twist not so grand that it makes you forget the whole setup. It's not also so simple that you won't feel it's that twist.

It's not a twist where it will affect your whole day. Neither will it be so simple you'll quickly move on after reading the story

It's a twist that will get into you at the moment. Not the whole day. But at that very moment, just as you read it.

You'll be quickly pulled into Oscar and Felipe's apartment. You can easily imagine how serious Oscar is in the confession. You'll feel like you're physically close to Gracie as she thinks about the news and how she will deliver it to Oscar.

The growing tension, feelings, and emotions...just like a glass that is almost full until you realize it and stop pouring water into it.

In the end, I feel for Oscar and Gracie. Way to go, Felipe!

You can enjoy this book either in its ebook or audio versions. The only advantage the audiobook has is the sound effects.

Fun, typically earnest tale from the great Shea Serrano. In the same style as his short story "Post," we get a short, tender, and funny moment in the lives of two young people in Texas.

It's a short, pleasant read and worth it. I think I found Post a bit better, but Angel has the same kind of punch at the end.

As a huge fan of Shea and his previous work, it was fun to experience how his writing translates to fiction. I only wish there was more of it to really sink my teeth into! This short story was quirky and fun and made me excited to see where he goes next.

Starting to get into short stories that I can listen to on my walk to class. Good stuff from Shea, as always!

A delightful story. Shea’s voice as a storyteller is so fun. You can almost feel like he’s telling you the story while the two of you sit at a table or something. Good stuff

First book done of 2024! And it’s another excellent short story by Shea. A nice little 30 minute audiobook to listen to while I ran errands. A friend told me she likes these kind of audiobooks because they’re like having a little cookie — just a nice treat.

The way Shea can create deep characters and create a realistic setting in such a short amount of time is amazing.

This story did such a great job creating tension. Given the title, you knew something bad would happen. I kept trying to anticipate what the impending doom was, and I didn’t have it figured out until right before it happened. ANGEL did a great job drawing me in and keeping my attention. And when I saw the plot twist coming I let out an audible “NO” in the car 😂
