I enjoyed this book! Some days hit me harder than others, but I learned a lot and I would say grew quite a bit as a leader from it.
Here are some of my favorite quotes from it:
“Is it possible you are in this position because God has given YOU some experience and insight that no one else has?”
“You are not behind, you haven’t missed anything, and you’re not in trouble. It is to YOUR GLORY to search this stuff out. This is the journey of life and it’s supposed to be FUN!”
“As humans, especially as people of faith, our job is to leave things, but more importantly, people, better than we found them. We are to add value wherever we go and make positive changes.”
"You are smart. You are capable. You know your stuff. This is not a final exam of a class you shouldn’t have taken. This is what you do."
“I get concerned these days when I walk into a Target or a Home Goods and come across an ad on social media where I see a journal or t-shirt or mug telling me “The Future is Female.” When we read John 17, we know that’s not true. The future is not female. The future is not male. It’s not black, or white, or any one race. It’s not young, or old, or middle ages. It’s not single or married. It’s not rich, poor, or only the middle class. Jesus tells us the future is TOGETHER”
“We throw the tiny pebble, but He creates the ripple”
One thing I want to mention - Section 4 - learning to express yourself - felt like the author assumed a lot of gender stereotypes on me. I know she was trying to address things women commonly struggle with in leadership roles, but I felt put down by them. I would have appreciated it more if it had been about areas people in general struggle, not trying to generalize something on me as a woman. That theme continued occasionally after Section 4, but it was mostly in that section - and if that's something that bothers you, it wouldn't hurt just skipping the section.
This took way longer than 90 days for me to read … but I’m just not that disciplined and had other books assigned to read in between. Great leadership principles and reminders. Nothing ground breaking. However, as a woman in leadership — specifically ministry — it’s fun to read and be challenged and encouraged by other christian women in leadership!
It may have taken me 2.5 years to finish this book but it was very good reflections. I’d pick it up every few months and then complete a few days of reflections. I appreciated the encouragement and advice for using leadership to serve God and others.
