Award author Kathy L Wheeler brings you this contemporary story of cursed earl descended from 1819 to 2019 in The 7th Son
Clairvoyant artist Alistar Spears, the current Earl of Griston, is in dire straits. At the stroke of midnight on his thirty-third birthday, a curse decreed six generations before will send him to the madhouse. He doesn’t even know how or why the curse was instituted. All he knows is that he will go insane.
Peyton McKenzie, art critic extraordinaire, is in England for an inheritance from a grandfather she’d never met. In a stroke of rotten luck, she runs into her least favorite artist in the world, Jess Aldis. On the upside, she adores the Tudor style house she now owns, complete with diary showcasing a window to the past, and an exciting neighbor—a real live, very attractive earl.
Kathy L Wheeler is an award winning author in her contemporary and historical romances that include suspenseful twists. Her current series Rebel Lords of London is now available beginning with The Earl's Error,. Number six, Captivated by His Countess is scheduled for March 7, 2023. :)
Kathy L Wheeler loves the NFL, the NBA, musical theater (don't ask how her how many times she's seen Phantom of the Opera (12); or Wicked (7)), travel, (Europe, Grand Cayman, Mexico, All over the US), reading (practically a book a night), writing (15 books and counting) and karaoke (well....what can I say). She assists other authors in critiquing, formatting, and creating covers for their publishing dreams.
She writes contemporary and historical stories where the heroines save themselves and the heroes who honor their courage with suspense and humor.
She recently migrated from Oklahoma to the Pacific Northwest with her musically talented, lawyer husband, her adorable dog Angel (who lives up to her name...mostly) and their snooty cat (who is truly a snob), Carly.
Wow, this novella read like a book - it was both powerful and engrossing. This is a contemporary story set in 2019 and follows up on the curse instilled on the Earl of Griston in Kathy L. Wheeler’s “The Marquis’s Misstep” that was set in 1819. The author has done a fabulous job of writing a contemporary romance that reads like an historical romance with the descriptions of buildings and settings and includes both aristocracy and commoners. I loved that it was a mystery and a romance and that it kept me guessing right until the ending. I so appreciated that this tale included snippets and letters from characters introduced in the earlier historical books and gave a synopsis of Griston’s descendants to explain not only Alistar’s dilemma but the ancestry of Peyton. I do recommend reading at least The Marquis’s Missteps prior to this book to understand all of the references, nuances and mysteries. I devoured this novella very quickly and I hope that we learn more about the characters from previous books in the next in the series.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It ties the future with the past. At first I wasn't too sure what to think but the more I got into the story, the more I wanted to find out if the curse was going to be broken. Alistair comes from a long line of earls who become crazy by the age of 33. He is only a few days away from said birthday when he finally meets in person art critic Peyton. There is a strong connection between them which they don't understand. They work together to try to figure out a way to break the curse. In doing so, answers to Peyton's past start coming to light. The clues came from two different diaries, written ages ago. I liked the link between past and present the end result. I just wish the ending had been longer because it felt rushed. Looking forward to the next book.
The 7th Son is a modern installment of a regency series. I love how the author intertwined her past books into this current romance with mystery. The main characters were well developed and sympathetic. The ticking clock toward the earl’s 33rd birthday gave it a sense of urgency that kept me turning the pages. The romance was passionate and the mystery added the perfect element. I was surprised at the identity of the villain. Very good story. Highly recommend.
I read the regency Rebel Lords of London novels and loved them all. I was intrigued that the author also wrote a contemporary story in the series and curious as to how she’d tie it in. Let me just say, I was not disappointed. The history of the regency characters was woven in beautifully. Very cleverly plotted with fabulous characters, who are flawed yet sympathetic, this story is compelling and intense. I loved it and hope the author does more in the series.
Amazing story of the curse of the Gristons. Great characters and well written. A page Turner front the first page th the last and they both had their HEA . Would highly recommend this series and author ,:)
Just finished this. A quick read and surprisingly in depth for a novella. I enjoyed the intrigue and the author did an excellent job of capturing the essence of a historical in a modern world. It really held my attention.
Chose not to read this book, nor any of the others to come. The details from the previous book showed how the rest of the series would pan out and I, for one, could not stomach the subject matter this author chose to highlight in her books.
Kathy Wheeler has written a very interesting g story about curses and love. TBE solving of the curse takes we deal turns, but eventually is solved. I would recommend this book to anyone.
This story continues from book 3 and a curse placed on the Earls of Griston. The story was okay, however I truly wished the author would have found a way to end the curse during the timeframe of the earlier novels. It would have made the ending so much happier for the characters from book 3 as they grew into adulthood. Very disappointed.
