For several reasons, I'm not too surprised that I never really got into this, and none of those should be considered an actual diss against this audio drama. The production values are amazing as is the voice work- that's what got me in, as I'm dedicated to listening to Richard A's voicework, and it's really good across the cast and the whole audiobook. I think my issues are that first, scifi is a genre that's always hard for me to latch onto (vs fantasy, which I almost always enjoy), and in this case I couldn't stop feeling like I walked in in the middle. Second, I think if a reader is already familiar with the 2000 AD comic series, they would remember the artwork, which would trigger their higher engagement. Scifi fans should definitely give it a try!

Penguin have released a handful of new 2000 AD audio adaptations (the others are The Ballad of Halo Jones, Sláine: The Horned God and two Judge Dredd tales with America and The Pit), I went for Brink as it's the more recent of the stories to be adapted and I am a big fan of the dry humour in Dan Abnett's writing thus far (serialised in issues of long running brit comic 2000 AD) and was curious how this would translate without INJ Culbard's gorgeous line art. I am glad to say that this was as much as a success as you could hope for; a really good cast and excellent audio production (up there with Big Finish's expensive to obtain audio dramas) makes this an easy recommend even if you have no familiarity with Brink or 2000 AD but just like sci-fi audio drama stories.

I'll continue to throw more Audible credits at the rest of their productions, but maybe I will leave Sláine to last. It may be heresy but I've looked at the art of Sláine (every subsequent artist on the strip seem to try and outdo each other) more than I've bothered to read Mill's speech; I'd opt for a textless Sláine if I could for each weekly outing - I have no idea what's happening in the story at this point in time as I've long given up try to follow who Sláine is after murdering with his axe ad nauseam.

I just listened to this all at once, and it was pretty good. I'm not going to go much into the plot, but the world is finally falling a part and this is the story of a police officer investigating cultists who want to summon an ancient evil.

Basically, if you like the type of stories that come from the creators of Judge Dredd and such, then you'll also like this. The woman who reads it has a voice that nicely fits the main character, and it's well put together.
