Experts and executives often portray innovation as confusing and complicated. Some even suggest that you need a special degree to know how to do it right. But the truth is, consistently coming up with great ideas isn't a unique talent or even a difficult skill. It's actually a simple five-step framework that anyone can follow to look at the work that they do differently, and have a bigger impact on the people they serve.
Think Innovation shows readers how to tie individual competence with innovation techniques to direct corporate outcomes. In engaging and accessible language, Carla Johnson demonstrates how to create a unified, idea-driven employee base that delivers more ideas in a shorter amount of time. Ultimately, this is the path that makes organizations nimble, passionate, innovative powerhouses that deliver extraordinary outcomes for sustained periods of time.
I've had this book on my shelf for a few years now and I'm really sorry I didn't pick it up earlier. I'm not in business and I don't need to think of innovation to promote a business idea. However, I AM in academia and I'm also a writer/novelist. This book gave me a lot of ideas that I can apply to my own field and my own interests. The writing is snappy and the stories that illustrate the point is spot on. This is a wonderful book to not only promote innovation but also motivation.
Very easy read, lots of practical suggestions and engaging examples. Putting all the steps into practice is a challenge, especially in a dispersed setting. Definitely aimed at an situation where there is regular physical contact among the team. However there is still much to gain from working through the steps suggested in virtual setting.
