Now that Rei and Yukinojo know about Chihiro’s crush on Midori, plans commence to make his love come true. Yukinojo invites Midori to a study session, where she finds herself at the Goshima estate. There, she meets Chihiro’s younger siblings and learns more about who he really is. However, there’s someone who isn’t all too happy to see Midori and Chihiro grow closer by the minute…
This vol gave us a closer glimpse into the two love interests’ family lives in an attempt to give the characters some more depth. I’d argue it didn’t go far enough but I imagine that was intentional as it was trying to drag out the love interests’ mysterious background for as long as possible.
Once again the new setting coupled with the summer holidays timing was perfect for more confrontations and relationship developments. Yet, I felt as though either things were moving too slowly or the volume was too short and needed another chapter to try and better round off the plot of this arc because it felt unfinished and ended abruptly.
I REALLY enjoyed how for a summer activity everyone came to do something that wasn't your typical summer activity. Yes, we have the "summer festival" vibe, but it was a nicely added theme for this volume that fits so well for this series. Also loved how it linked back to a conversation at the beginning of the series. (Also keeping the "activity" vague since the blurb doesn't mention it.)
Despite that last volume, I said I really like the love triangle, I definitely felt some angst forming in this one! LOL! However, that angst was short-lived with things that take place, especially with that ending! :o :o :o I am DEFINITELY reading the next volume ASAP!
I like how everyone is feeling more friendly around one another and being their real self and being able to share real selves about themselves. I know this story is a romance (and I LOVEEEEE the romance!), but I have deeply enjoyed seeing everyone's friendships grow closer, even including Ieiri who I have really disliked up to this volume. He still acts like his typical self, but it's not overbearing like it has been in previous volumes I think. I actually have enjoyed his and Midori's interactions!
Continuing to love this series! I wish I would have picked it up sooner, but it's been a wonderful binge-read today!
This series is hitting all the shojo beats in a good way! I'm enjoying it even though it's not a top favorite. I really like Goshima, and enjoyed the study session at his house. It was nice to catch a glimpse of his home life, but I wish we were shown a bit more. I guess the trip to the beach highlights what a hard worker Midori is, and gives the boys a taste of what it's like to work for your money. There is a much needed apology that comes at the end that somewhat redeems Ichijo's jealous tantrum.
I love this series so much! It's adorable! Goshima remains my favorite character! Yoko Nogiri's art is always gorgeous, and she writes some of the best romances! Looking forward to continuing this series!
Why do I always want the main girl to end up with the second guy rather than the first? I mean, this is a shoujo so all 3 guys are great, but the one is just so cute & caring. 😭
We really get to see Nanami develop her feelings for Rei in this volume, also there’s some jealousy amongst the group and it had me hooked. Can’t wait for the next volume, I’m curious to see what unfolds.
Nanami winds up tutoring the boys as Chihiro’s grades have him in danger of spending summer chained to a desk. Helpfully this also lets Ieiri push his own agenda of getting the two of them together. Before you can say ‘summer festival’, however, it’s time for all the cliches and shaved ice you can handle!
Okay, this isn’t as good as the last volume, let me be clear. And I’m more than happy to note the irony of having just finished the quite good Blue Flag, which shows what can happen when people talk about their feelings, and then reading this book where 95% of problems are caused by not being upfront and making lots (and lots) of assumptions.
However, this is still a damn fun read and I really like this series even when it is gobbling down tropes so fast it’s like happy hour for the Shojo Manga Drinking Game. It still has that nugget of originality in the background that I hope to see teased out sooner rather than later, but this crew is fun to spend time with. If you’re not going to write original, write well.
Points for the humour this time around, which squeezes some very funny bits out of some serious mundanity. Nanami getting shoved aside by a gaggle of female fans trying to make time with the guys, some very adorable Corgi antics (the Queen would approve!), at least one person knowing how to leverage the boys’ sex appeal to sell goods, and the boys’ incredibly poor aptitude for blue-collar work.
Between the tutoring sessions and the vacation they all end up on (it makes perfect sense in context, trust me), there are endless chances for things to be horribly misconstrued and, naturally, they are. I do love how Ichijo takes something the wrong way, gets super petulant, and also gets thrown completely off his spoon game.
Where this book does go off the beaten path is where it gets to be its most interesting. Chihiro definitely has designs on Nanami, but it becomes pretty clear that he’s not the one she’s interested in and it doesn’t get drawn into this huge thing (yet, I mean, provided somebody else doesn’t start meddling again). He knows that his overtures aren’t going to be reciprocated and he actually accepts this. Madness!
And, in one of the most shocking moments, Ichijo apologizes for how he treated Nanami when they first met. Two volumes later no less! Tropes or no tropes, it’s hard not to enjoy somebody taking responsibility for being a butt earlier on.
3 stars, maybe 3.5 honestly, but I’m not rounding it up because it’s not yet following up on what I was interested in from the last time. Don’t get me wrong, however, in a world beset by all these tropes there are much more banal manga you could be reading. A nice, light read, as befits a book focused on summer vacation.
Just as Nanami has made her shaky peace with Yukinojo and accepted the fact that she has fallen in love with Rei, the third no-so-cute (but still the best) boy, Goshima has realized that he likes Nanami too. This volume gives us a glimpse into Goshima’s home scene (which was unexpectedly endearing considering they are Yakuza).
Nanami also gets a chance to teach the rich, entitled boys about the joy of hard-earned money as they take up a job during the summer holidays managing an ice-shavings stall at a street market. This volume doesn’t have much happening by way of plot except for Chihiro’s adorable bluster around Nanami and the reticent Rei realizing that if he doesn’t do something, Nanami might just end up with someone else.
Straightforward high school will they- won’t they Shojo shenanigans.
...Why do I always suffer so much from Second Lead Syndrome when I read shoujo manga? ;_;
I like Rei...I just like Chihiro more right now, s i g h.....
I guess I should've expected this, since I had this same issue with one of this author's other works (Love In Focus). Ah, well. It's still a very cute story, so I'll keep reading!

In this volume, we finally discover a little bit more about Chihiro’s family, we’ve been hearing about them since the first volume, so it was about time. Midori is the first one who doesn’t judge him right away because of this, so it’s normal that she holds a special place in his heart. Moreover, the twins were the cutest! I must say that Yoko Nogiri writes pretty well sibling relationships (Kon + Midori) and it’s nice to see normal relationships and not overprotective ones like I’ve seen in other manga.
Rei and Midori are slowly growing closer. Just like Midori, I liked that Rei apologized for the way he acted towards her when they first met. Even though it’s in the past, and that Midori doesn’t care about it, I still think it’s important to apologize when one does something wrong. One way or another, it does influence the present.
However, I do feel bad Chihiro since he knows that his feelings won’t be returned. I just hope that it won’t create drama between the boys in future volumes, since it’s something I hate in manga. My heart broke for him, it’s the worst feeling ever when you realize the person you like, actually likes your best friend. But I’m really impressed by his reaction, it was mature and drama-free.
I see trouble and misunderstanding coming in future volumes, and I don’t want it. I hate discord among groups of friends because of romance. The end though!! I can’t wait to read the sequel.
Everything's going at a really steady pace in the group. We're not jumping from A to X, but getting a nice progression of Midori and her relationship between all 3 boys. I kind of wish the crush wasn't as one-sided between Midori and Chihiro so it feels like it's something we can actually invest ourselves into, but right now it's pretty clear that the real relationship that'll happen is between Midori and Rei. I'm fine with that, but if we're gonna have a love-triangle, lets commit to it.
I did however really like all of the stuff that happened at the beach. Nice to see the boys work and get some perspective and that it pushed Midori's relationship with Rei and Chihiro further.

I wrote a long review about this book and why I rated it less than 4 stars but I accidentally touched the screen off of the editing window and it didn’t save. Now I’m so annoyed and lazy to retype all of it that I’m just going to say two things.
I don’t want Midori to end up being with Ichijo because I think he’s boring, expressionless and barely has a personality. I don’t know why she has a crush on him. Sure there were some cute moments between the two but I just couldn’t see them as a couple or want them to be a couple. There isn’t any chemistry between them. I wish that Goshima and Midori will end up together but we all know that’s not going to happen because she has to be with the boring expressionless Ichijo😑 Seriously Miss Nogiri, why does she have to end up with the dense, boring and stereotypical shojo manga guy? But Goshima and Midori are so cute together and I just really like him and feel so bad for him because he can never be with the girl he loves😭 I like him way better than the other two guys. Although, Yuri (can’t remember his last name and am too lazy to look it up😂) is slowly growing on me.
I stopped buying this series after vol. 2 mostly because of the love interest and because so far it’s just an ok story. I will keep reading it but I don’t know if I will buy the rest of the series.
SOS! I need Volume 4 immediately! I was already enjoying this series, but now? I’ve officially jumped off the deep end.
Watching Nanami grow closer to the boys and push them to do better has been so rewarding. The character development? Chef’s kiss. Seeing them evolve, challenge themselves, and open up more has been a highlight.
I absolutely loved the introduction of Jitta and Momoka—the twins are adorable, and that dog-sitting scene? Had me giggling. As for the love triangle… I’ve always been a second male lead cheerleader, and Chihiro has my heart. He’s misunderstood but finds freedom in Nanami, which makes his step back later in the book so painful. And yet, I can’t help but root for Rei too. No matter what happens, it’s going to be an emotional ride!
And then there’s Yuki… Let’s just say I felt Chihiro’s words: “You have got a serious complex…” Hoping he eventually softens up and accepts Nanami like the others have.
I need more of this series ASAP. Looks like I’ll be buying the rest!
This story ends on a two-fer trope of (1) pointless misunderstanding (2) guy saves girl from random creeps. As a result of (1), Rei suddenly becomes standoffish to Midori when they'd had a much more open conversation just a day ago. Ah, the hot-and-cold running crush. He not only explains why he was acting like he was, but apologizes, and on the same day as the misunderstanding happened! Good for him.
As is often true of romance manga, this one's appeal relies much more on its art and "feel" than its characters or plotting. My good impression of that from the first couple of volumes persists. Nogiri is great at framing panels to make the reader feel like they're part of the story, and she focuses on the characters' hands now and then--a hand to the face to cover the expression on it, two characters walking closely together, their hands very close but not touching, etc.--increasing those panels' sense of emotional intimacy.
In this one we get to know more Chihiro because he is crushing on Midori. Yuki invites Midori to a study session for finals to help Chihiro pass his classes, but Chihiro can't make it for family reasons. As a result Midori and the boys go over to Goshima estate to study there and Midori (and therefore we) get to see a little bit of Chihiro's home and family life.
Later they all take a summer work vacation holiday. For the first time ever the boys are working for money and Midori is taking the lead to get these slackers into line. But lack of communication (classic cliché) begins to form a rift between Rei and Midori.
Cute, but pretty standard shojo. Chihiro is just the vehicle to get the plot where the author wants to go. The art is pretty nice though. Love the inlet panel!
I love how we see Nanami become closer to the boys, and how we see Chihiro and Rei grow after seeing how hard it really is to work a job. After this volume I can safely say that I LOVE CHIHIRO! He is such a caring older brother and such a good friend. The one sided love that Chihiro feels towards Nanami tore me apart though. I just want Chihiro to end up happy. I didn’t really feel like it was a love triangle for that reason. Yes they both like her but Nanami only has feelings towards Rei and only sees Chihiro as a friend. Overall though I did enjoy this volume and can’t wait to read the next one!!

This manga has a fast-paced story which made me immersed so much. Yet, the story develops well from previous volume and slowly getting into the climax part on the romantic relationship. I guess the boys' friendship is like - the moment you know your crush likes your best friend, you started to discourage and ended up not confessing. In the name of giving in to the best friend - which I hope there's back story to explain the situation or there's at least a chance for confession to happen. But overall, I am invested in their friendships and happy that they are closer than before in previous volumes.
