Dating the Player

Dak

I’ve got a big pro football contract, a big appetite for women, and a big mouth. It gets me into trouble more often than not… but this time it lands me with a nerdy little PR gatekeeper who is supposed to control me. But good luck with that.
Eloise and her kitten sweaters and adorable glasses have me thinking about her in a whole different way…

Eloise

I’m not your typical nerd girl. Instead of video games, I love football. I’ve landed my dream job managing social media for my favorite team, but with Dakota North as quarterback it’s a 24/7 job. When I’m told I have to spend a week making sure Dak doesn’t tweet, he seems determined to use that time to flirt with me.

I have to ask myself, what is more important - losing my virginity to a bad boy quarterback or keeping my perfect job?

This was so much fun! Sweet yet very sexy at the same time. Hot football jock with a bold, flirty personality and a reputation to match, sets his sights on the nerdy girl who works behind the scenes for the team's social media accounts. I loved Eloise (aka 'Kitty') and Dak together--- loved their banter and playfulness. And boy did they have some sexy times together! My only complaint was that this book wasn't long enough (always a good sign!) I wanted more!
Looking forward to reading future stories about Dak's football playing buddies...

This wasn't a particularly horrible book, but it was just not what I was in the mood for at the moment. I didn't know this was going to turn into a "lesson in seduction" trope, and having just read a brilliant version of this trope, I was disappointed in the mediocre attempt here. Moving on.

Ah another amazing book from this author.

Although she’s super new to me (as in this is my second book read from this author) I am hooked. Her books seem to always be addictive and I can never seem to put them down.

Dak is the star quarterback with a bad reputation. He’s a player, a bad boy and says what’s on his mind. He has all the girls falling for his charm but what he doesn’t expect is just how opposite Eloise is and how she doesn’t fall for it.

Eloise is nerdy and career focused. She knows what she wants and sets her mind to it. She’s kind and sweet mixed with some sass. She’ll have you smiling in no time. I loved her so much.

These two are complete opposites and this story shows just how much opposites can attract.

I’m in absolute awe of this book. The cute fun moments, the moments that make you laugh just everything was put together perfectly to make this incredible book. Erin did amazing bringing these characters and their story to life and keeping my attention to the end. I’m in love and now I just want more.

Dating The Player is a fun, entertaining and witty romance about two souls finding love in their opposites.

I adored Dak and Eloise. I loved his energy, his willingness to be open, and her willingness to be herself, cat sweaters and all.

This is definitely, at leasty on the surface, an opposites attract romance. But, what it really is is a story about 2 people who have an attraction to the people they are underneath the hype of the famous quarterback and the seeming nerdiness and incompatibility of a self-professed geek in a cat sweater.

But what it really is, under all of that and all the humor, is a story about finding a connection with someone whom you enjoy for who they are on the inside, and who they are when no one is watching or they don't feel they have to behave in a certain way.

There were times when I wanted there to be a little more connection between the characters, especially at the beginning when it felt like a light and flirty romance, with a focus more on the humor. But, by the end I was fully invested in the characters, their story, and the happy ending.

I enjoyed and recommend this title.

This book was a fun cozy read.

He's known her for a few months as a social media employee but never knew her name. He just called her Kitty because she always wears sweaters with kittens on them.

She is assigned on his bye week to make sure he doesn't post anything appropriate on social media. He immediately starts hitting on her. Even though they are going to his mom's house for an early Thanksgiving.

SPOIELR SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

He finds out she's a virgin (she tells him) and he immediately wants to be her first. She says no. She doesn't want a player. She's looking for a relationship. He is insulted. He could be in a relationship if he wants to.

So he keeps trying to prove he's more than a player, and she keeps insisting he's a player. His own mother tells her he will break her heart.

So finally she gives in and says who gets to have a pro football player as their first sex partner? I'll have some memories for when he inevitably dumps me.

He gets a nice hotel room (they are still traveling) and orders champagne and strawberries. So he makes it special. He also makes sure she enjoys herself too.

Of course people find out and she quits her job. He is mad. They end up together and he proposes in Paris at the end of the book.

It was just nice to read a book with the hero doing so much chasing and effort to get the girl.

Erin McCarthy’s Sassy in the City series hooked me, and the last book in the series – Halftime Husband – had me eager to see what would happen to some of the side characters, specifically what happened in the footballing world. Thus, I was more than happy to dive into Dating the Player.

Dating the Player is a great start to The Legends series, and it has me eager to see what comes next in the series. It was a quick and easy read, one that hooked me from the first page and ensured I devoured it in a single sitting. I adored the characters and the way their story played out, I smiled and let out a couple of snorts at some of the events, and I could not get enough. Although there were times where the story felt a little too easy for me, without the depth I would have liked, it was not enough to take away my enjoyment.

All in all, Dating the Player was a fun quick read that more than hooked me.

First time I read anything from Ms. McCarthy and it won't be the last. It was a fun, sassy, and happy read with likable characters and setting. Eloise works for a football team in social media and is charged to make sure that Dakota doesn't post or say anything appropriate. The task is easy and I like how the author introduces secondary characters that make the book's development and hopefully, future books.
Totally enjoyed the funny and sexy banter between the two characters and how they develop their feelings and fears in a real human matter.

Eloise works in the social media department for a famous NFL team. Since she started working, she has had a crush on the team's quarterback, Dakota North. But she knows that Dak is a player and goes through women as she goes through kitten sweaters.

Since Dak is always getting in trouble for the comments he makes to reporters, Eloise is tasked with the responsibility of making sure Dak keeps in line. Together, they travel to Dak's parents' home for a weekend... there they find who they are. Dak makes an offer Eloise can't refuse, but she is a thinker - so Dak will have to convince her.

It was a fun and sassy story with likable characters. I loved the character development and how they both fell in love with 0 drama!

Dating the Player was the first book I've read by Erin McCarthy, but definitely won't be my last! This was a super cute, nerdy girl with jock story, but with the heroine actually a football nerd too. Eloise was super sweet, über professional, and has a quirky style all her own that has attracted flirting from Dak since day one. Dak was definitely not looking for love when he would stop and talk to the PR girl that helps to keep him out of trouble, but he's definitely found her interesting from the start. Once they get thrown together for work, Dak decides that she's the girl for him and he's all in. He's head over heels, trying to convince her he's serious when he'd only been a player before. This is a great, feel good story with some really hot smexy times. It's not quite an insta-love since he'd been flirting with her for a while, but a pretty fast fall none the less. The story stayed interesting and is well written. I'll definitely be looking for the next book in the series!

4 stars. Aww, this was super cute! Dating the Player is the first book in The Legends series and is a spin off of a previous book, Halftime Husband, where we were introduced to this couple. This is Dak/Dakota and Eloise's book. Dak is a playboy football NFL player. He is flirty and charming to everyone (he reminded me of Jimmy Garofalo). Eloise is a hot nerd, who has no idea she's hot. She works in the team's press/marketing department and wears cat sweaters all the time. Everytime Dak comes in the office he flirts with her and calls her "Kitty". Dak keeps getting himself in trouble by going on twitter rants, being irreverant and putting his foot in his mouth. So Eloise is assigned the task of being his "babysitter" and keeping him from getting himself in trouble on the internet. She goes with Dak on a trip to visit his family and hometown and the two fall for each other. Dak is all-in with her and ready to for a relationship, but he must prove to Eloise that he is ready to settle down and can be trusted.

Dak and Eliose were adorable together. I really liked them both. I understood Eloise's fear about giving her heart to Dak and potentially getting hurt. But Dak truly adored her and was smitten from the start. He had to prove himself to her and convince her that he was a good guy and would be a great partner. They had sizzling chemistry and there were so many cute, witty moments between them. This was a low angst read, with no big blowups or OP drama. This was just a fun, sweet, sexy, swoony, easy read.

Dating the Player was just plain fun! I loved Dak and his Kitty and I was so happy to see them find love together. I really look forward to more from this series and from Ms. McCarthy!

Well looks like I found myself a new author to add to my one-click tally. This book was so very, very good. I laughed so hard at times, both at Dakota & Eloise. These two completely opposite characters work so well together. What started off as a crush for the football loving Eloise, turned into something she could never imagine and that led her to not completely trusting that what Dak was telling her was truthful on his part.
What I loved about Dak is that he has lived his life as it was thrown at him, and he was extremely content in that. What he never anticipated on was someone like Eloise. She was so not his usual type when it came to women, I think it actually blindsided him. It was magnificent to read him fall & fall hard for her.
I loved everything about this book and am eagerly waiting the release of the next book!! I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book

Dating the Player by Erin McCarthy is a cute, but spicy contemporary romance featuring a bad-boy jock and a nerdy girl. This quick, entertaining read hits a lot of my favorite tropes: opposites attract, bad boy with the heart of gold, forced proximity, and, as I already mentioned, the ever-engaging jock/nerd dynamic. I don't often read sports romances, but I once I started Dating the Player, I couldn't stop. It was just the right amount of sports as background, while really focusing on the two main characters, Eloise and Dak.

Of course I immediately connected to Eloise, the late-blooming nerd with a penchant for cat sweaters and a knowledge of football that would put many fans to shame. Like Eloise, I was initially trepidatious toward Dak, the bad-boy jock with a seemingly endless rotation of women warming his bed and an inability to hold his tongue. The situation that forced these two together was a bit far-fetched, but intriguing enough to have me turning pages. However unlikely their pairing, McCarthy manages to craft a heart-warming romance that left me wanting more.

Dating the Player is the first book in The Legends series, with hints of book 2 sprinkled throughout. I look forward to following some of the other characters to their happy endings.

Thank you Social Butterfly PR and Erin McCarthy for the gifted copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This was sometimes entertaining (sometimes infuriating) and it takes a while to warm up to Dak. This swings back and forth between sweet and absolutely cringingly behavior. I suspended disbelief as much as possible for the instalove and how quickly Dak seemed to fall and accept the fall for Eloise. That said, this book was something of a bust because I was disgusted by the blatant sexual harassment and unprofessional behavior by the GM (and Dak! The phone in his pocket at the airport was way over the line and not sexy at all.) and how Eloise paid the price for their behavior without any repercussions on their part.

Dating the Player by Erin McCarthy is the first book in The Legends series. It was so good and it was just what I needed after reading a few romantic suspense books. Eloise, a social media manager for an NFL team, and Dak, a quarterback for the same NFL team, were so much fun. I loved how opposite they were and I adored their banter. Dak was so unexpected (in the best way) and I loved watching Eloise come out of her shell. If you’re looking for a fun & sexy romcom, definitely pick this one up.

Too good to be true, tp seneng aja bacanya.. iya sih heroinenya insecure, tp masih tergolong wajar, monolog dalam hatinya jg gak banyak, jadi gw enjoy bacanya hahahahaha ((masih kesel sama novel sebelumnya gw))

Ceritanya tipikal bad boy yg jatuh cinta ke good girl, tp gw suka karena masnya ditolak berkali2 jg gak kapok, gak mundur dan gak perduli omongan orang, pokoknya tetep kekeh "you are the one for me!" makanya gw bilang too good to be true kwkwkwkwkw

gak usah review lah, gw monolog sendiri aja ((ditabok)) LOL

🛑🛑REVIWED WITH SPOILERS AND DETAILS THAT MIGHT GIVE YOU SECOND THOTS ABOUT READING THIS BOOK.

🔥🔥ALSO , YOU KNOW THAT MY REVIEWS ARE IN UPPER CASE WHEN I'M ANGRY AS HELL!!!!

#️⃣READ THIS EXCERPT-

1️⃣This is hs and world's opinion of H on Page 9 -

Dakota
Dak. Party boy. Sexy as sin. Charming with a grin that
could and did, coax women out of their panties on a very
regular basis. He gambled, he drank, he spouted off stupid
things on Twitter without pausing to consider the
consequences. He had sex with preachers’ daughters,
wealthy cougars, random women at nightclubs, and
strippers, depending on the night. Or day. Or morning.
He was an equal opportunity manwhore.

1️⃣This is Dakota inside her head on page 9-

And the man in my virgin, nerd-girl dreams every night.
Sweaty, dirty, sexy dreams where I was the center,
gripping the ball for the snap and his hands were under my
ass, among other things.

2️⃣This is hs opinion of H on Page 10-

As he sauntered through, big and cocky, it was like
watching the viral video of fainting goats. First all the
women sat up straight, tits out, eyelashes fluttering madly,
then as soon as he passed them, they collapsed back,
drained and dreamy.
Even though I knew for a fact that he’d had sex with at
least two of the women at headquarters, he never spoke to
anyone in particular.
Except me.

2️⃣This is Dakota inside her head on page 10-

Studying my laptop screen studiously, I pushed up my
cherry red glasses and ignored him.
“Hey, Kitty.”
Dak didn’t know my name. He’d never asked. Even if he
had, I doubt he would have remembered it.
I turned and gave him a weak smile, my heart rate
kicking into overtime. The highlight of my day was when he
acknowledged me, but it also threatened to send me into
shock every time. Or spontaneous orgasm. My nipples
hardened beneath my sweater and I shifted a little on my
seat.
“Hi, Dak, how are you today?”
“Living the dream, Kitty.”
In his case, that was hugely accurate.
He gestured to me. “Turn around and let me see you.”
Obediently, I swiveled my chair so I was facing him. This
was our routine. I’d say I didn’t know how to break it, but
the truth was I didn’t want to.
His eyes raked over me slowly, amusement and mischief
in them. “Now that. That right there is the sweetest pussy
you’ve given me yet.”
“It’s Siamese,” I told him.
“Kinky.”
I glanced down at my breasts and the cat on my sweater.
“I don’t think so. Cute more so than kinky.”
Dak shook his head slowly. “Then clearly our thoughts
aren’t running in the same direction.”
I pushed my glasses up on my nose. “Apparently not.” I
didn’t take anything he said seriously because Dak was a
wicked flirt. He flirted on social media with random women
who commented on his posts. He flirted with the team
cheerleaders. He flirted with female sports reporters. But
he had a type when it came to women he actually had sex
with or dated.
They were always what my grandfather would call “hot
to trot.”
They were women who oozed sexuality in every look,
every gesture. In the way they dressed and moved and
spoke.
That wasn’t me. Not by a long shot.
Nope. I was the virgin intellect who dressed her pets in
team jerseys.
So, I knew that Dak just found me a kooky cat girl and
that I was entertaining for five minutes whenever he was in
the office. But he’d never date me or want to have sex with
me.
Which sometimes was devastatingly disappointing.
Because, hello, sexy alpha male with a charming smile,
muscles on muscles, and a confidence that made him a
powerhouse on the field.

RANT TIME🔪🩸🔪🩸🔪🩸🔪🩸-

⏹THERE ARE MORE I CUD SHOW YOU , BUT LET'S NOT WASTE EACH OTHER'S TIME.

⏹FROM THIS SMALL EXCERPT , YOU CAN CLEARLY SEE THAT DAX IS P.L.A.Y.E.R.
PERIOD.
THE SECOND EXCERPT ON PAGE 10 IS WOOORSE.

⏹NOW, I DO READ VIRGIN-MANHO PAIRING , BUT IN THOSE CASES , THE HERO FUCKING FORGETS TO BREATHE WHEN HE LOOKS AT HER THE FIRST TIME. HE ......... HE CHANGES LIKE HULK CHANGES TO DR.BANNER.

⏹BUT IN THIS BOOK , THE HERO HAS KNOWN HER FOR YEARRRRRRRRRRSSSSS. AND HE HAS FLIRTED WITH HER CONSTANTLY. WELL , HE FLIRTS WITH EVERY VAJAYJAY CARRYING HUMAN HE SEES.

⏹AND HE HASN'T MADE A MOVE ON HER EVER . HE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW HER NAAAAME FOR FUCKS SAKE!!!

⏹THE h WORKS IN THE PR TEAM OF HERO , AND I FELT THAT SHE ACTUALLY..... LIKED HIM EVEN IF HE WAS A PLAYER.
LIKE IN ONE PARA SHE IS TELLING HOW HE SLEEPS WITH EVERY , EVERY , EVERRRRRRRYYYYYYYYY WOMAN HE COMES ACROSS.

⏹AND IN THE NEXT PARA SHE'S LIKE ...OH HE MAKES ME WET , HE IS LIKE SO SEXY AND I CUD SEE THE HUGE OUTLINE OF HIS DICK IN THOSE SWEATPANTS.

😡😡😡😡SHE IS CONSTANTLY TALKING ABOUT HIS DICK!!!!!

😞😵SHE IS LIKE...........EAGER TO PLEASE HIM AND CONSTANTLY THINKING ABOUT GIVING HIM A BLOWIE.

😡😡AM SORRY BUT AREN'T YOU SUPPOSED TO BE HATING HIS GUTS? AREN'T YOU SUPPOSED TO BE DIFFERENT FROM THOSE OTHER WOMEN WHO THINK THE SAME WHEN THEY SEE HIM????

😡😡BELIEVE ME WHEN I SAY THAT SHE IS KIND OF A DOORMAT. SHE CANNOT CONTROL HER BODY AROUND THE HERO , WHEN THE HERO GIVES ZERO FUCKS ABOUT HER. HE JUST WANTS GO GET LAID AND MAKE HER THE NEXT NOTCH IN HIS BED POST.

🙄🙄IN OTHER REVIWES I READ THAT HE CHANGED HIMSELF WHEN HE FOUND OUT SHE WAS A VIRGIN , AND ASSURED HER THAT HE IS A RELATIONSHIP KINDA GUY.

😟HER virginity MADE HIM CHANGE????

😑😑HELLO SIR? SHE HAS MORE THAN THAT . SHE IS CAPABLE OF MORE THAN THAT!!!

⏹THE WAY SHE GET'S WET AND AROUSED NEAR HIM , OR EVEN WHEN SHE WATCHES HIM ON THE T.V WAS SO HOT........NOT!!!!!

⏹I HAVE JUST READ FIRST CHAPTER , SO I SHOULDN'T MAKE ASSUMPTIONS , BUT TILL NOW , I CAN ONLY GIVE THIS ONE STAR BECAUSE EVEN THO SHE'S A NERDY DREAMY GIRL WHO IS ATTRACTED TOWARDS A MANHO , SHE IS ........KIND OF ADORABLE. LIKE A h FROM THE AUTHOR MINK's BOOK .

⏹THE h HERE IS A CAT LADY , AND KNOWS KLINGON FLUENTLY , SHE IS SMART AND QUIRKY AND HER POV WAS FUNNY (at least the parts that excluded the detailed description of the Hs peepee) THAT'S THE ONLY THING THAT MADE ME GIVE THIS 1 STAR .

⏹I SKIMMED TO THE END TO SEE HOW IT ENDED , AND READ THAT THEY ARE JUST ENGAGED IN THE END.

⏹I WILL CONTINUE TO READ THIS BOOK , AND MAYBE MY RATING COULD CHANGE , BUT THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO WAYYYYY I AM GIVING IT MORE THAN 3 STARS.

⏹MAYBE I'LL GIVE MORE STARS IF SHE STARTS PUSHING HIM AWAY IN THE NEXT FEW CHAPTERS AND MAKES HIM WORK FOR IT.

⏹😡BUT, SEEING AS THE WAY SHE'S TOTALLY GAGA OVER THIS JOCK , IT'S HIGHLY UNLIKELY THAT SHE'LL MAKE THINGS DIFFICULT FOR HIM.

⏹🙄ALSO , MAYBE THIS IS A SLOW BURN THAT'S WHY THE CHARACTERS ARE BUILT THAT WAY,BUT IN A VIRGIN+MANHO SITUATION I LIKE THE h IF SHE IS A LITTLE BITCHY TOWARDS THE H.

⏹I AM ABSOLUTELY HATING THIS BOOK BUT I'LL CONTINUE TO SEE HOW THIS PROGRESSES.

⏹I'LL UPDATE THIS REVIEW AS I PROGRESS.

✅VIRGIN GAL.
✅EXTREME MANWHORE *pulling a face*
✅NO-CHEATING.
✅ENGAGED IN THE END.

Didn’t float my boat
3 stars

It’s been a number of years since I’ve read Erin McCarthy and looking back through the books of hers I've read previously, she’s been a bit hit or miss for me. While this wasn’t quite a miss - but it just didn’t click with me.

Our hero is Dakota - a successful pro football player with a very wicked reputation with both the ladies and the press. His rep is completely deserved and he has no problem with admitting he enjoys sex and with as many different people as possible. I suppose I don’t have a problem with this attitude - and I don’t even really mind it in a hero… but it does make it VERY hard to believe his quick descent into love with the heroine. He says all the right things but, much like the heroine (and the hero’s mother!), I just didn’t buy he was in it for the long haul. And you have to admit that’s a major problem in a romance novel.

Eloise was a likeable heroine and when we first meet her I definitely identified with her. She’s so nervous around Dak and sees his teasing as some sort of game - I felt her anxiety and massively empathised. As we find out more about her, and as the book progresses, she comes across less and less like a geek. I don’t necessarily want cookie-cutter nerds - but what exactly about her made her a nerd? Her glasses? Her love of football? Her virginity? I was confused.

I did like our couple as a pair but this was all under the spectre of not believing in their love. They talked so much about whether or not they would have sex that when it came I was more relieved to get it over with than anything else. Equally, after the inevitable fall-out between the pair, it took so long for them to finally get themselves back together that I got a little bored, if I’m honest.

I’ve been a bit harsh in this review but it was still a well written book and just a smidge away from a cute and fun read. For the most part it held my attention but I’m not sure I’ll pick up the next book in the series (The Legends) unless it sounds super cute, or other readers give it glowing reviews. Not the book for me but not wholly bad - just 3 stars.

In the last year I’ve read several books written by Erin McCarthy. So when I saw the sign up for an ARC for Erin McCarthy’s new series ‘The Legends’, I signed up immediately. And I was lucky enough to receive an ARC not much later.

In ‘Dating The Player’ we read the story of Eloise and Dakota. Eloise is a girl I loved immediately. Eloise is kind of shy, loves her cats, and adores football. And she is currently working at her dream job of managing social media for her favorite football team. That includes Dakota North, a quarterback not only known for his great sports achievements, but also his appetite for woman and his ability to get in trouble. Eloise has always admired Dakota from afar. Now she is forced to make sure Dakota doesn’t get in trouble for posting stuff on social media. Not an easy job indeed.

‘Dating The Player’ was definitely a fun read. I really enjoyed reading about Eloise and Dakota. They couldn’t have been more different. And I enjoyed reading how Dakota slowly got the shy Eloise to come out of her shell for a change. Their interactions where really fun to read, and they made me laugh several times.

The character I loved the most was without a doubt Eloise. She was someone I would get along with perfectly. Kind of a nerdy girl, and not afraid to show the world she was different. But the further along I got in this book, I started loving Dakota more and more too. At first I found his character very frustrating. He was arrogant, rude and talked way to much about his big ‘member’ for my taste. I mean.. did he have to talk about it as much? I just didn’t like that part. Luckily, we got to know Dakota better.. and it didn’t bother me as much as it did in the beginning.

Although I did have trouble enjoying this book as much as I’d hoped too in the beginning, I definitely really enjoyed it in the end. Dakota wasn’t as shallow as he seemed. And I loved the chemistry between him and Eloise.

‘Dating The Player’ was a fun story that makes me curious about the next book in the series.

Adorable, sweet, and very romantic. I loved the spark between Dak and Eloise from the very beginning, making this a great start to a new series.

For the first time in Dakota North's life he was thrown by a woman who didn't automatically jump at his charms. Not that Eloise was cold or mean, she just knew that Dak was a player and therefore knew her own boundaries and sense of self preservation when it came to her own heart. She wasn't willing to give up a piece of herself in the name of one night of fun, risking not only the possibility of emotional attachment, but her self worth, her pride, and most importantly her job. She works at the stadium with Dak and while she loves the daily flirting he brings, crossing the line for more wasn't worth losing her job.

Eloise wasn't under any illusion that if it came down to Dakota North, star quarterback, or Eloise, social media rep, who most likely would be cut from the employment roster. While she was good at her job she wasn't raking in the dollar signs like Dak did. So she took her job seriously when she became the babysitter for a weekend trip with the hunky quarterback. No matter how much he upped his flirting game. Her focus was keeping him off of social media and not getting into his pants even if she really, really wanted to.

Eloise just never expected to be pulled into Dak's orbit and fall for his family, his charm, and the really nice guy that he seems to hide under the player, non-filter media nightmare. Dak knows he has to pull out the big guns to win Eloise over and nothing in his arsenal of past hookups will work to charm his Kitty. He's never been with someone like her before and  all of these feelings are new, could it be the girl or is it more?

These two were just delightful to read and I'm really looking forward to reading more of Dak's friends in upcoming books. When they are all together the moments are hilarious. Eloise fit right in and I love that she goes with the flow for whatever Dak brings to the table considering she is normally a stay at home kind of girl.

Dak falling for his complete opposite type is so cute, but even more so is the observations he makes about himself about his buffett of past women. Eloise is truly more his type than he ever realized and that's why these two work so well together. Eloise is strong and adorable and the perfect match to call someone like Dak on every move he makes. This new series looks like so much fun and I'm totally here for it!

3.5 stars!

I adored the communicative cheerfulness and the characters. Opposites do attract sports romance focused on people falling in love on what’s underneath, not for what they were projecting but on the real deal.

But still it took me some time to really connect and not the numerous hints or reading about it repeatedly did not really convince me in the beginning. Under all this humour and lightness, I would like to feel more connection between the main characters.

One moment Dakota was absolutely embracing his status as a man who had casual relationships, cocky and confident until one day he noticed Eloise, the woman who seemed a little uptight with her cats sweaters trying it to be noticed. He liked to tease her but I needed more background and substance in the first place to make it more believable to me. It gets better progressively. And I appreciated that.

At some point, their relationship really took off and I became more invested in them. I could feel their complicity and they just made me smile a lot. Not only as a couple but as individuals. I really appreciated them but somehow not on the same page, kinda hilarious at some moments. Steamy and sweet at the same time.

I also enjoyed their banter and dynamics with their friends and family, colorful characters who were not afraid to speak their minds and kept the main characters on their toes. It introduced some interesting characters whom I guess would share some interesting stories.

I really enjoyed this story and the characters, but I felt the whole cat/Kitty thing was a bit much in the story. Eloise didn't just have cats, she wore cat sweaters to work.

That said I loved Dak and I loved Eloise/Kitty. They were wonderful characters and I really enjoyed getting to know them and the challenges they faced in having a relationship and how they started.

Dak is a HUGE football playboy. He pretty much sleeps with tons of women, hangs out at strip clubs and says rude and obnoxious things all the time. In other words he is a frat boy who joined the NFL and never outgrew his frat boy ways even if he never went to college.

Eloise LOVES football and she has her dream job. She has the biggest crush on Dak who calls her Kitty because she wears Cat sweaters to work everyday. She has two cats she adores and she loves anything and everything cat related even if thats a sweater with a cat on front of it.

Dak is told to behave as he wants to go out of town and visit his family. He is told to take a PR person with him and he votes for Eloise and thats how Dak and Eloise end up spending time together in his home town.

I really found Dak a great guy and adored him. He has had some pain in his past and he has risen above it and made a great life for himself. He even is such a nice guy that he likes flirting with his Kitty.

Kitty/Eloise is a great character as well. I really liked how she treated Dak and how she embraces who she is and refuses to change for anyone but I also loved how honest and true she was to herself and how perfectly she fit in with Dak's family, sister and brother.

This is a fun and flirty story about the nerd and the football player and its a fast moving story with lots of hotness and humor.

I received a free ARC copy of this book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Eloise works for a sports team doing public relations type of work; she makes sure to spin the crazy things the players post on social media into a more positive thing. Dakota aka Dak is one of the most troublesome players; he doesn’t like to filter himself, so he’s outspoken. This is a opposites attract scenario; the virgin/supposed nerd; didn’t really get the nerd vibe from her, glasses and liking cats doesn’t make a nerd for me, and the playboy charming jock. Dak gets in trouble with the team manager for his social posts, so Eloise is assigned as his babysitter while he goes and visits his family. She’s hot for him, but she knows she’s not his normal type; easy sexpot type of women. He’s intrigued by her and wants in her pants; he thinks it’ll be fun to rile her up, so he sets out to woo her.

I almost DNF this before I finished the first few chapters; I couldn’t stand the characters in the beginning. I did end up liking the story okay though, and I do enjoy the author’s writing style. Dak just didn’t seem like a prize, but for some reason; probably just because he’s hot, everyone wants him bad. Eloise is a bit too infatuated with Dak; she puts him on a pedestal and herself down, but she does show a bit of strength when it comes to him. Dak does have some charming points, but I got more of a douche vibe; he does have a quick change in character from ladies man to ready to settle down, but I still wasn’t fully sold on him. Maybe the change was too quick; I would’ve liked a bit more substance to the romance. I appreciate that Dak doesn’t like the negative way Eloise sees him, so he works to show a different side of himself. The story is entertaining and there are some really sweet moments between Dak and Eloise, and some good steam. Overall, I never became fully invested in the characters or their romance, but the story is an enjoyable, fun read.

Last year, I read a novella called Big Balls (a jock meets virgin romantic comedy) and loved it. Then a few months later, I came across the exact same precis for this book.

description

I'm not exactly sure what happened, but I assume the author used a different a penname for that series and then released it again here for a new series 🤷🏼‍♀️.

But when I saw that this version had an extra 70 or so pages, I had to pick this up. More Dakota and Elosie?

description

The main difference between the original story and this one is that there is an extra trip that Dak and Elosie take to New Orleans. We meet a bunch of Dak's friends that I assume will be the MMCs in the other books in this series. I was really happy for this new extra as it adds more dating/getting-to-know you time between Dak and Eloise and made me like them even more 🥰.

The only thing I wasn't a super fan of (and didn't like in the original version either) was the third act breakup and how long it took Eloise to come back to the relationship. I get why she was nervous, but surely she could have decided in a week or so.

But in any case, it was fun reading the story again with all the new extras added in. I just love Dak and Eloise. They're both cute and fun. Such a lovely little romance.

Once I started reading Dating the Player by Erin McCarthy I just zoomed through the story, I always love it when the couple is a nerd with a jock because they just work in different ways together.
Eloise Carter has her dream job, she works for in the social media department of her favorite football team, and she gets to look at the her celebrity crush Dakota "Dak" North in person when he comes through her office. While Eloise might be a nerdy cat girl, she gets her love of football because of father who passed away when she was nine and she never stopped loving the sport.
Dak is having a good season, but after one joke to a reporter about the reporters wife and daughter his GM is putting him on time out, and he now has to have a babysitter to make sure he doesn't say anything stupid on social media and to keep his parting in check. When the GM assigns the nerdy cat girl who he knows as Kitty, to come home with him to Tennessee he is less than thrilled.
When Eloise is assigned to babysit Dax she is simultaneously thrilled to be spending time with her crush, nervous as hell and annoyed that she has to babysit a grown mans phone. While visiting his family on his bye week Dax gets to know Eloise and sees beyond her clothes and nervousness to the beautiful person that she is on the inside. What starts as what Eloise assumes as a one time thing soon grows deeper and Dax sees them having a real relationship, which he hasn't been in since college.
Dax knows what he wants and he wants Eloise for the long haul but Eloise's worry about losing her dream job and her not being Dax's usual type makes her want to keep everything a secret. Can Dax convince Eloise that he's worth the risk of her heart and can Eloise learn to trust what they have is real?

I laughed so hard reading this. Here we meet a shy sports fanatic nerd and a big football player who is crude in every form.

Dak says whatever he wants and just laughs it off. He is used to getting what he wants and can get any woman. His GM is getting tired of his behavior and posting crazy things on social media. Dak has a trip home planned to Tennessee and he gets assigned a baby sitter on the social media team to monitor his phone. Due to his crazy antics the football organization thinks he needs someone to make sure he stays out of trouble. He knows exactly who he wants from the social media team to be his babysitter and that is no one other than his kitty. (a.k.a. Eloise)

Eloise has always been the nerdy girl that hasn’t had the best of luck in the dating department. She is a 25 year old virgin that has the hots for the sexy football player Dak. When he comes in the office he always flirts with Eloise. When she finds out she is on babysitter duty she doesn’t know if she can handle it.

During this trip Dak lays it in thick and finds himself more intrigued with Eloise. When he finds out she is a virgin he wants nothing more than to be the man to be her first. Eloise was not his usual type but sees so much in her. She basically blindsided him in the best ways possible. After their magical weekend in Tennessee with his family he automatically knows he wants more with Eloise. He just has to convince his kitty he’s playing for keeps.

This was a great book and I loved seeing Dak and Eloise interact. I hope the author introduces some of the other football players we saw in this book!

Dating The Player is the first book in The Legends series and is Dak and Eloise story.
Dak is the star quarterback and Eloise is part of the social media team at the club.
Dak doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut and expresses his many opinions on Twitter. The GM of the team decides Dak has to have a chaperone when he goes and visits his parents to keep him off of his phone and to stop creating massive media storms and because Eloise is nerdy and hides her beauty the GM thinks there's no chance Dak will be attracted to her.
So that means Eloise is the lucky one who has to try and keep Dak off of his phone and to make sure he keeps out of trouble.
But something unexpected happens on the trip, they like each other, really like each other and decide they should give into their feelings while they're away.
"There was no reason to resist him. Well. There might be. But I was choosing to ignore it."
When they get back home, their feelings haven't disappeared, it's only made them stronger.
But Eloise has a lot to lose, her dream job and she has been told many times that she isn't pretty enough to be with the star quarterback. Can Dak prove to her he doesn't care what other people think, that he wants her and only her?
