Sometimes it’s really hard to keep things in perspective. Stuff that might not seem like much to everyone else looms large in your mind, outweighing any consideration and affecting the decisions you make. And that’s what is going on with Raeann and Deacon. Each has something happening in their lives that determines the actions they’re taking, and neither wants anyone else to know about those issues. But when you get involved with someone, secrets have a way of revealing themselves.
What’s fascinating about Deacon and Raeann is that they’re each utterly convinced that the personal difficulties they face make having a relationship insurmountable, and yet each looks at the other’s problem as something that can be addressed and solved. And that’s often what people need in life: someone who’ll look at their situation from a step removed and be able to make less emotional judgements about them. Watching Deacon and Raeann shift from being two people who agree to have a casual fling (because of the secrets each wants to keep hiding) to being two people committed to sharing and addressing each other’s insecurities is what makes Takeoff such a treat to read.
Jameson is an experienced and assured writer, and that comfort shows in Takeoff as Raeann’s challenges are really a bit extreme. But as a reader, I felt Raeann’s conviction that the difficulties she faced were never going to end, so I could go along with something that seemed a bit farfetched at first. Deacon’s issues are more understandable but also easier to address, so it made sense that he was the first to cope with them and work towards getting Raeann to a similar place.
Filled with a glorious sensuality, Takeoff is a marvelous entry in Jameson’s series of stories about a group of flight-attendant friends finding true love!
It was a good book. It was about Raeann and Deacon dating she was trying to not get involved with anyone and stopped dating him for a month and he talked her in to going out with him again She was hesitant because her mother had died from a mental illness and she was scared she might have genes that she might also contact it she also would not date him for a week but he talked her into going out with him as a friend. She was a stewardess and lived with heather who was also one. She kept dating him as a friend. They were romantically involved. He had a brother that had been killed in a car wreck. He and his wife were both killed and had a niece and nephew that lived with his parents, but his dad had dementia and his mother was taking care of him also. Raeann had a white streak of hair and there were some women that kept calling her a witch and aggravating her they broke the apt. front window and threw fire crackers at the front door. Deacon didn't think she should stay there and took her to his house. he moved his nephew and niece in with him .She loved them and his niece called her rain. She had taken a test to see if she would be like her mother and it was negative. Deacon asked her to marry him and she said yes. Since she had 2 to take care of She got pregnant.
Raeann has been avoiding Deacon all month, now she's going to have to face him at Bex's baby shower. He deserves answers but Raeann isn't sure she wants to share it all. Fortunately Deacon isn't going to take no for an answer here. He wants to know what's wrong and to fix it if he can.
We learn a couple of things in the talk Deacon and Raeann have, one her mother is schizophrenic, and two she a crazy cult thinks she's a witch because of a genetic white streak in her hair. While they haven't done anything yet, she's sure it's coming. They never left her mother alone until she was hospitalized.
Then Deacon's thoughts allude to a big problem of his own that he's keeping a secret. Of course now all these terrible things are going through my mind.
When the cult escalates, damn do they escalate. They are able to get the police involved and Raeann starts staying with Deacon to be safe.
I love the way this story twists and turns, as we slowly get to know Deacon's issue. Raeann and Deacon have a combustible attraction and when they come together it's both sensuous and sizzling.
I really can't wait to read the next book in this series.
Raeann lost her mom and three years ago she moved from Virginia to Texas, Dallas to be exact. She has been working for Open Skies ever since and enjoying a "normal life" but that is all about to end. Her past is about to catch up to her.
Deacon's life is a hot mess, he has big responsibilities ahead of him and he should not be lusting after Raeann who spent two weeks with him and then broke it off.
It seems though that fate is about to step in and further alter their plans to live a life of solitary confinement of their own doing.
I really like this story. Raeann is a wonderful character and she has an admirable inner strength given all that she has gone through from an early age. She can certainly handle Decon's secret when it finally comes to light. Deacon knows loss and he knows responsibility and he and Rae have than in common. This story tugged at my heartstrings and had me cheering for their happy ending. I have enjoyed this series a lot and look forward to Heather and Neil's story next.
Raeann is retreating from relationships due to a hard start in life. A schizophrenic mother and a pigmentation of her hair which resulted in witch hunters after her, has made life less than great. Meeting deacon was a light at the end of her tunnel, but the risk of possibly following in her mother’s footsteps and witchhunters at her door have made her try to protect those around her. Deacon has secrets of his own and what will happen when they both try to intertwine.
I have LOVED the Open Skies series, but this one didn’t quite get under my skin as much as the previous books. I still loved reading about the relationship between the characters, I felt that they were both quite repetitive on the will they/won’t they front. The suspense which is normally prevalent and intense was missing from this one for me. I still can’t wait to read the next one though as overall the series for me has been amazing and it would be unrealistic to think I’d love every one in the series.
Becca Jameson's new book "Takeoff," the fifth book in the Open Skies series, is one of my favorite in the series. This book drew me in wanting to know Raeann's secrets and also Deacon secrets as well. He hints at wanting a full on relationship but at the same not wanting a relationship for a reason that hints at a family related problem. But there is such passion between these two that they just draw to each other. There is that kind of a connection between the two of them. Raeann and Deacon try to be friends and then friends with benefits but with there connection that is kind of hard to fight. And fight Raeann does considering the witch hunting group and her mothers illness. To fully understand I believe as a reader you should find out yourself. I really enjoyed reading this book and highly recommend this book and series.
I was given an advanced reader copy this book for my honest review.
Book 5 and we get Raeann and Deacon's story. Raeann has worked for Open Skies for 3 yrs since her mom passed. Raeann has led a different life with her mom always moving because they were stalked by people who thought they where witches because of Raeann having a white streak in her hair. When she moves she meets Deacon and thinks maybe she can have a normal life. Just when she thinks her life is on track the stalking begins again. Deacon comes with his own family problems and doesn't want to burden her or anyone with his problems. But he wants to help Raeann. Can he find and stop the stalking and convince her to stay? When Raeann finds out what happened in is family will she stay? I love the chemistry between these two even though they tired to fight it. And it's always great to see everyone from the other books. There's suspense, drama, romance and learning we all can learn to trust and start our life's over.
I volunteered to read and review an advanced readers copy of Takeoff . This is the fifth story in the Open Skies series . Raeann started working for Open Skies three years ago . Escaping from her past life has been peaceful until now . Her past has caught up to her . To protect Deacon she has been avoiding him . Deacon will not let Raeann avoid him any longer . He wants answers . Deacon wants to protect Raeann from her past .As they spend more time together secrets and obligations Deacon has come to light . But can Raeann and Deacon work together to over come everything . This story is wonderful . The characters are fantastic and the story is very interesting . I highly recommend taking the time to read .
2 stars for this one which is surprising since I really liked the previous books in this series. Raeann's problems seem easy to fix. Check the test results and wear a wig. She's being harassed due to a streak in her hair and thinks she has schizophrenia like her mom. Even if she tested positive for it, there are treatment options. Wearing a wig will solve the other problem.
He's going to have to raise his brother's children and doesn't want to tell her. Really? If she's not willing to step up then she's not worth keeping. The entire story just made me roll my eyes. And want to shake them both. Also, if it was such a big deal and money was available how come no one thought about hiring a nanny?
Becca Jameson tackles an eclectic mixture of issues in Takeoff, e.g. schizophrenia, dementia, a cult of witch hunters to name a few. Interesting, huh! Then surrounded two marvelous characters who are so drawn to one another while they struggle with the aforementioned problems. They are both overwhelmed and reluctant to bring anyone into their messy lives even if it's just for someone to lean on and share their burden. They fit so well together though it did seem cruel that life kept throwing curveballs at them. Their journey from friends with benefits to falling in love wasn't an easy one but they did get the happiness they deserved.
The fifth book is a great series meet Deacon Matthews ex army and works with jake, backen ,Neil, Mack ,Jason all part of his team in high technology company and all ex army which suits deacon. Meet Raeann work for skyways and enjoy her job until one redeye flight where her past is definitely on her again after three years being of the radar. Between Deacon and Raeann there past is in their hands and how They precede to continue will have to find out. Gripping and witty and romantic love the series so far
Sometimes life just hands you a s****y hand, but if you're lucky, those that surround you make up for it. But what do you do when the person that you love is also dealing with their own problems. This is the case for Deacon and Reann. Both of these characters will be familiar if you've read any of the previous books in this series, but this can be enjoyed complete standalone. As the book progresses, we learn more about what they each have to deal with. I loved this book as it really showed just how the right person brings relief in an otherwise chaotic life. This book brings a wonderful slice of reality to a genre that can too often be all sunshine and roses.
Oh this book caused the emotions to run wild. There is heartache, steam, mental illness, death, stalking, I think I got it all. Raeann and Deacon both have reasons for not wanting to be in a relationship. The past, the present, and the thought that they do not need to burden someone else with their issues. I loved that this book tackles some tough issues and all comes out with an HEA in the end.
Take Off is the fifth book in the Open Skies series. This is Deacon and Raeann story. Both Raeann and Deacon have reasons that falling love is not the best idea for them both but sometimes fate has a different plan. This is a beautiful written book filled with friendship and hot steamy love.
