Rockstars Anonymous #1

Love is a Lyric

Rate this book
Keep your head down.

That’s the number one lesson Piper Hayes has learned as the assistant to her rock star sister. Don’t ruffle any feathers. Quinn always get what she wants.
The perfect boyfriend.
The right media attention.
And the lyrics that seem to pour out of Piper at every opportunity.
But a good assistant does the right thing. She does her job and keeps her mouth shut if she knows what’s good for her.
Yet, when her sister’s actions hurt the best guy Piper has ever known, she must choose between being a good assistant, a good sister, and taking care of the one person who ever made her feel like she could do more.

Keep your chin up.

Rockstars don’t get to complain. Ben Evans is a household name. He has more money than he ever dreamed of and the perfect girlfriend.
It was fate, the way they fit together. The only lyrics Ben had ever been able to craft music to were Quinn’s. The words spoke to him, made him believe in himself and what their band, Fate, was doing.
When his longtime girlfriend betrays him, the only thing he wants is to escape to his hometown where the media’s rumors can’t get to him.
He never expected Piper to follow him, to choose him over her sister.
Now, he must decide if it’s truly the lyrics he loves or the girl who was right in front of him the entire time.

Love is a Lyric is book one in Rockstars Anonymous, featuring one rock star support group, five ridiculous stars, and four swoony romances. Beware of concert crashers, meddling families, and rock stars who can’t seem to stay out of each other’s love lives.

[1.25 star] i'm on the roll of disliking books again because i don't really like the book.

firstly, the heroine is really a doormat towards her sister. she lets her get away with anything just because "she's her sister" yada yada. unfortunately, sometimes being family is more than just blood relations even though the sister seem to become better towards the end.

secondly, the connection between the hero and heroine is zero, zip, zilch, nada. didn't feel anything from their interaction.

i think i should stop reading books that surrounds pop stars either because there are way too much drama.

ps: sorry if other readers don't agree or dislike my review, i didn't write it to please you all.

I wanted to slug the hero occasionally for being dense, but it all came together in the end.

I adore this author and this trope so it's a match made in romance.

Love is a Lyric is a book I borrowed through KU almost a year ago. For some reason, I hesitated to pick it up because I couldn't find an audiobook, and I couldn't find one because there isn't an audiobook. It is also a book that I read in one sitting, which doesn't happen usually.
While I read the summary, I thought it would be sex, drugs, and rock n' roll because it has a rock star main character. Well, the truth is Love is a Lyric is a clean contemporary romance.
Michelle MacQueen writes a beautiful story. I felt like I could connect with Piper. We got to see her grow from a scared little girl to a young woman. Her devotion to family and friends and the love of her job keep her going. Her relationships with her sister Quinn, Ben, and Chase were different. I loved Mel's character and how she truly cared for her clients. There was the Mel that the world saw, and then there was the Mel that RA saw. We need more Mel's in this world.
There were so many different dynamics between the characters- family ties, friendship, love, and job-related. It was neat seeing how they all interconnected.
I am so happy that this is a series, and I can not wait to get the next book! It is a fantastic read that you don't want to put down. Love is a Lyric is the ideal book to curl up to with a cup of tea and snuggle under a blanket and lose yourself in their world for a bit.

Hard rate for me
Now it’s not because it’s a clean read. It’s simply because for me the h is a total idiotic doormat and the H is just a douche… it was kinda cute but maybe I just couldn’t get into it. I did finish it so that’s a plus?!

The Good:
• The support of the RA crew
• Dax

The Bad:
• The characters
• The waffling back & forth
• Rockstars…Anonymous
• Piper
• Ben’s “fate”

The Book:
This book was pretty eh for me. I really liked the beginning, it was strong & had me interested in the book but then the romance started & I started losing interest. Fast. First off the name Rockstars Anonymous is pretty terrible. I don’t even know what the meetings are about or why it needs to be kept secret. I’m sure there are plenty of musicians who are friends with musicians in other bands. Not sure why it’s such a secret that they’re friends. I do like how they support each other & how they all show up for Ben, that’s super cute. Plus, I love Dax, I might be tempted to read about him. But what bugged me the most & had me pulling my hair out was Piper & how people basically knew nothing about her. I understand Ben went away to college when Piper moved in but had he really never come home for a weekend or became friends with her? He claims she’s like his sister but then barely knows the first thing about her. His parents have to mention she’s a singer/songwriter & how she used to write & sing all the time but Ben doesn’t even know that? It felt like all of a sudden she didn’t exist & then when she turns 21 she’s suddenly there & nobody knows a thing about her. Wouldn’t Quinn even mention it offhand sometime? Just by accident of telling a story of when she was younger. Also Quinn, she was probably one of my favorite characters of the book because she was rude, she was a bitch but she knew it & she played her role. I didn’t get her & Ben’s relationship, there wasn’t enough love there or even mutual respect for the other person that made me think ‘oh yeah, those guys are a couple’. Lastly, I hated how Ben & Piper kept dancing around each other ‘I like him but I can’t have him’ ‘I like her but I can’t have her’ blah blah. I felt like there wasn’t a good enough reason for the two to stay away from each other. & Ben’s “fate”… I can write music to her lyrics so we must belong together… no Ben… just no. That’s just called being a songwriter. Not a fan, even for Dax I don’t think I’d read anymore of this series but that’s just my opinion.

Love is a Lyric (Rockstars Anonymous #1) by Michelle MacQueen is a sweet contemporary rockstar romance told in third person, dual POV.

Piper Hayes has been working as a personal assistant for her famous sister, Quinn, who is a singer and songwriter for the rock band, Fate. She's exhausted, underappreciated, overworked, and feeling ready to move on. It's about time Piper went after her own dreams instead of merely being the foundation and support to her sister's dreams. But Fate doesn't know how much she really does for them, and she's afraid that if she leaves, everything may fall apart.

Ben Evans is a singer and guitarist for Fate. He's also Quinn's boyfriend. When a shocking revelation throws him into a tailspin, he feels like his whole world is falling apart. Ben doesn't know where he stands anymore. He doesn't know if he can keep making music, and he doesn't know if Fate will be able to survive the fallout. The last thing he expects in the midst of it all is to have feelings for his girlfriend's younger sister.

Will Fate find a way to work things out? Or is the band broken beyond repair? And what will happen between Ben and Piper? Read the book to find out.

I enjoyed Piper and Ben's story. As characters, they were likable, relatable, and realistically flawed. I couldn't stand Quinn in the beginning, and although she undergoes a transformation by the end, I didn't completely buy it. The change from heinous witch to loving sister seemed to happen overnight. It was just too quick. Overall, the story was entertaining, sweet, and kept me engaged from beginning to end. I loved the support and friendships among the rockers in Rockstars Anonymous. I'm looking forward to their stories in the upcoming books.

Have you ever read a book and said you were going to read it at the same time as another? I’ve done it successfully in the past. And then I found Michelle. (And a few others along the way) Every time I start reading a new book I get an email. I can’t resist, I have to read the first chapter. But it’s not just the first chapter it’s the first five until I have to go to bed and then I wake up & am reading every spare moment until I’m done. If it wasn’t clear by now, this was one of those books. Quinn was necessary and I disliked her, however her character from the beginning and the end is so very different. She was the most dynamic character, in my eyes, and also one of the most superficial. Piper was who I most related too but really all of the characters are relatable in some way. I’m sure due to the fact it’s a series. And about the series, I absolutely adore the concept of Rockstars Anonymous. And I’m so excited to see adults rather than teenagers. I cannot wait to know who the biological father is for Jo’s baby. And while I am curious to learn more about Noah and Dax, dang it I can’t wait for Drew’s book & I hope there is more on Chase. Now I think I’ve covered everyone I wanted to I’m off to the book I started in the first place.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review

Oh, gosh I fell right into this book and never looked up. I don't usually feel so hard for the heroine in books but I am a sucker for a gal so unselfish and good but with a pure heart gets what she truly deserves at almost the last chapter. One of my favorite in the series and dare I say, one of my favorites in rock genre. I am impressed.

The characters have a support group so you are aware who will be featured in the next books. It's a little cheesy but works here.

Quinn and Piper. Their relationship frustrated me so much. One sister takes and the other gives.
I felt like it took so long for the truth to come out.
Piper and Ben. Their love seemed to come out of nowhere and was way too dependant on the music and lyrics. Like will they have a relationship if the music or lyrics ran out?
I enjoyed the secondary characters from the Rockstars Anonymous group and I loved Chase and his family.

I really loved this romance novel. The characters are awesome and have some of the best chemistry. The characters are super sweet to each other. I loved the tender moments between them and how essential music is to their relationship. There were super awesome kissing scenes. I highly recommend this novel.

CAN ANYBODY FIND MEEEEEEE… um livro bom pra ler? Esse aqui tinha tanto potencial! Começou bem!!! Personagens bem estabelecidos. High stakes! Um grupo de apoio para rockstars!!!! Mas aí parece que a autora ficou com preguiça e decidiu parar de estabelecer as coisas??? O livro ficou meio “i am Protagonista and i’m here to say que vou ficar com esse cara mo fim” e nada mais???? NADA MAIS!!!!!! O que é pior, um livro que é ruim ou um livro que parecia que ia ser bom, tinha tudo para ser bom????? Grandes questionamentos filosóficos.

Flat…

Apart from the genre which drew me in, the synopsis of the book which I kinda liked, did not live up to my expectations. This is just a flat story. Gah…None of the characters live up to the hype.

This was actually my first Michelle MacQueen read and definitely won't be my last.

I absolutely loved this book. I was drawn in from the first chapter and had a hard time putting it down.

The rock star romance genre is not my usual style as these stories are generally just too far fetched and tend to have fairly weak female characters pining away and chasing around after their idols. But, this book was definitely not that.

Michelle has crafted this story in a way that feels real. It's not filled with chance meetings or some other flimsy excuse for the two characters to meet. Instead it is set inside the world of rock stars and gives some insight into what goes on behind the scenes and portrays the female characters not as star-struck groupies who get to work backstage, but as the hardworking professionals that they really are.

I loved the character of Piper - this is a woman I would love to call a friend. She is strong and independent. I like that she just didn't fall at the feet of any man, rockstar or not. The fact that she didn't just drop her life to chase after Ben was refreshing, strengthened her as a character and helped establish the book as being realistic rather than fantasy.

While Piper and Ben may be the lead characters, every single supporting character has been written strongly enough to hold their own. I don't think there is any character in the book that I didn't like, although it took some time for Quinn to grow to a point where she became likeable.

And, I am totally intrigued by the remaining members of Rockstars Anonymous and look forward to reading not only about their journeys in future books, but, would love to see Chase find love as well.

I cannot wait until the next book is out to see what comes next.

Am I glad I read it - Absolutely.
Was it a waste of my time - Definitely not.
Would I sit down and read it all over again - Honestly, I could pick this up and read it again right now.
Would I read more by this author based on this book - I definitely intend to and cannot wait for the next book in this series.

The first book in a new series that promises to leave us all with goofy grins and teary eyes!

Ben and Quinn have known each other most of their lives since a car accident killed Quinn's parents. When Ben hears Quinn singing a song called 'Fate' he thinks that fate has literally stepped in and delivered him his true love. They formed a band, call it Fate, and hit it big, six years later they are wrapping up a world tour. Too bad that's not all that is wrapping up.

When Piper was 10 years old her parents died in a car crash that left her and her sister, Quinn, orphans to be taken in by friends. Now as an adult Piper has joined the band Fate but in a background role. She's her sister's assistant, and let me tell you Cinderella was treated better. As the tour winds down everyone is going to Florida to take some time off and get new material for the next album together. But it's not all sunshine at the beach, and what happens will change the fate of everyone forever.

I absolutely LOVE everything by Michelle. She always gives you a fresh story with relatable characters and she always keeps you on your toes! The characters are well thought out and as I said before all pretty relatable. Quinn is the designated nightmare of the group and she is brilliant in that role. Piper is such a loveable character that you just want to pack her away and adopt her yourself! There is a handful of supporting characters that really fill out the book and give a steady stream of wit and banter to keep the book fresh and light.

I am so happy that this is a series and I can not wait to get the next book! It is a fantastic read that you don't want to put down. It is an ideal book to curl up to with a cup of tea and snuggle under a blanket and lose yourself in their world for a bit.

A quick easy read that fed my soul and warmed my heart.

Rockstar books are my absolute favourite trope to read because it combines my two biggest passions; reading and music. I especially enjoy an authors view of the people behind the music and how much of their inspirational process that they inject into their character’s stories. In LOVE IS A LYRIC, Author Michelle MacQueen has made this book all about the music, about how the soul within an artist just needs music to live, it’s what pumps the blood through their veins, and in turn they breathe out the lyrics and compositions that we in turn all need to function in our everyday lives. It’s also about familial manipulation, and secrets that can’t be contained forever.

It is written in my favourite dual POV, and while this book would be considered to be on the level of sweet, do not mistake it for not having any sort of intense chemistry at all. Music connects to people on an intense and emotional level, and in that same way, Ms MacQueen relays this intensity to her readers through her gift of writing. It was all about my connection to the characters that mattered to me, who they were and the dynamics of relationships, and holy crap on a cracker – I was invested!

I also loved the secondary characters in LOVE IS A LYRIC and Ms MacQueen has perfectly paved the way for the future books in her ROCKSTARS ANONYMOUS series. This group is made up of all kinds of personalities, forced together by their agent who intended them to be their own support group instead of relying on other props like alcohol and drugs. I absolutely love these characters already, and am absolutely looking forward to the next three books. 4.5 Stars 🎵🎶🎤

Be prepared with a box of tissues , as Michelle McQueen has created a 100% plus hit. Her ability to be able to capture such realistic thoughts and emotions so strongly, that invoke in you such dedication to the characters and the world they live in is such a credit to the author that she should be recognised and saluted. This storyline is a rock and roll love story, including an unrequited love about Ben Evans & his band “Fate” with the love of his life Quinn and her sister Piper as the basis of this story. Then all the lies, deception and secrets start coming into the light, broken heart’s are deeply felt especially with the loneliness and distance put between them. Friends are unexpected amongst rivalries but will their support help bring a happy ending to this heartbreaking story. I was in tears many times during this story as the sympathetic perception for its characters readily affected my emotions in this illustrious book. This was a stand alone book and I hope Michelle McQueen will produce more.

This is my first experience reading something by this author, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised and very much enjoyed the book. This is the first book of the series and I think it is off to a wonderful start. The series is set to follow a rock group and the roads that lead them to love. This is Piper and Ben's story. Ben starts out being Piper's sister's boyfriend, so you can imagine all the drama that plays out with this story when Ben starts to have feelings for Piper. This is a well-written, sweet romance and captured my interest from the start and kept me engaged and interested till the end. The story will warm your heart and leave you with a smile on your face. This was a very entertaining story and I am looking forward to reading more about the other members of the group in the upcoming books.

I received a complimentary advanced reader's copy of the book from the author and am voluntarily leaving my review.

Love the complex rockstar

This is a new author for me and I loved this book. I love rockstar stories and this one didn’t disappoint. The characters were complex, interesting and compelling. It was a good plot that wasn’t totally predictable. I mean, I knew there was going to be an HEA but just didn’t see how they were going to get there. Looking forward to the next book in the series. I loved Drew in this one and can’t wait to see what is in store for him!

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Love is a Lyric was my wildcard review read for Booksirens. Author Michelle MacQueen sure knows how to write some lovable characters, I adored Piper Hayes; and Chase, Julia and Jonathan were just the family I want for my own. Rockstar, and Chase's big brother, Ben is the troubled lead singer who wants it all but does the future all come down to fate? Quinn was suitably loathesome, I didn't like her at all and wondered why Piper kept coming back for more but then I have never been an orphan who's only family left is a sister who 'needs' me.

This was a beautiful easy read with a storyline and characters to give colour to your days reading. I wonder if Rockstars Anonymous is really a thing, everyone needs a Drew Stone in their lives surely! I felt like I was on tour with these guys, the descriptions were plentiful and it sounded great, although utterly exhausting, to be a superstar assistant for a band being at their constant beck and call. This did also give rise to me questioning how do we truly value our worth...and why it's important to stand up for yourself.

A solid 4 stars from me and I would happily read more by MacQueen - this was everything I hoped this book would be and more.

Are you ready for the srangest critique ever?

First of all, loved this book and can't wait to read the others. Liked the premise, plot, writing etc.

The only thing is, and I'm surprised it bothered me so much, there was no swearing. And that, in itself was fine.
It's just... rock stars saying "thank Heavens" and "oh gosh"? After the second 'thanks heavens' I couldn't stop thinking about it. I was constantly trying to determine if it was going to be preachy (it wasnt). After finishing it, I searched to see if they ever said 'oh God.' And they do, and 'crap' but that's as far as it gets. And that is FINE... but when a rock star says 'shizzit' or something, instead of just swearing, it's WEIRD!
I don't have an issue without any swearing but use the 'oh my god's and 'crap's more. They're more believable. There was a line where a character said 'son of a -' and was cut off. That's good too.
Don't come up with creative exclamations to avoid swearing. Use 'God' and 'crap' if you're comfortable using those instead of weird things that I haven't heard anyone under 70 use, let alone rock stars.

As I said, I was worried it was going to be preachy or have an ulterior motive, but there is LBGT representation, feminist values, and premarital sex (none detailed, just a very closed doors scene).

What a wonderful book this is! I love books about Rock Stars and I love it when there are steamy times, but this book didn't have any and tbh it didn't detract from the story at all. There were many different characters who all had something to contribute to the story although the main ones; Ben, Piper and Quinn were really well developed. Ben was in a band called Fate with Quinn and Conner. Ben and Quinn were boyfriend and girlfriend although they didn't appear to be particularly close. Piper, Quinn's sister, was an assistant to her sister and was taken advantage of but didn't complain about it. Piper and Quinn were keeping something secret from the other members of the band and as time went on the secret began causing some problems. Oh yes, there is a group called Rock Stars Anonymous who meet up to support each other, what a great idea. You will meet a few other stars along the way!

I don't want to give anything away but just want to say that this is one of the best books I have ever read and I highly recommend it! I am looking forward to reading the next books in the series.

I was in the mood for a music romance and this book was just what I needed! With fun and relatable characters, singing, touring, and song writing, a great and intriguing plot, and a sweet romance, I really enjoyed Love is a Lyric!! I related to Piper in how she’s always just trying to make others happy and is pretty alone in the world. I started it at night and finished the book the next evening, it was so engaging. 😆

My main complaint though is that while relatively clean, it had some content I didn’t agree with. The MMC, Ben, shared a room with his girlfriend, who he then finds out has been cheating on him for a while. She’s told to have been passionately kissing a guy topless, and later we find out she’s slept with a guy who’ll be a MC in the next book. Another character who’ll be a MC in a later book is pregnant from an apparently horrible guy, and I’m just wondering if he’s so bad, why sleep with him…? Ben’s brother is gay, which I didn’t appreciate being put in there. Then at the end when Piper and Ben are finally together it shows them waking up in the same bed. There was also one cuss word that I can remember.

I'm kind of mixed on this book. It was a pretty light and easy read, and I love reading songwriting/music/band books, so they are always a treat to read.

I just had a hard time with the fact that a grown man could only see a connection through his longtime girlfriend through lyrics. I mean, they don't even write them together, and he couldn't realize that was the stupidest reason to stay with an awful person.

The plot is kind of stupid/unbelievable and it's brought up a zillion times of course, but if you can look past the fact the whole fate through lyrics only thing, you may like it.

I liked the whole RA group and liked seeing the friendships and the Evans family. I just don't like books when one person dates a sibling then dates another sibling.

But overall it was good and easy read, and I liked getting lost in the music world.

Just a few things were annoying, and I don't like to have to request additional chapters by giving my e-mail address and downloading them after the book. I mean, I guess the book already had a HEA but it also wasn't fully resolved either.

Love, Friendship, Family and more

This story was beautifully written. I felt like I could really connect with Piper. We got to see her grown from a scared, little girl to a young woman. Her devotion to family and friends and the love of her job keep her going. Her relationships with her sister Quinn, Ben and Chase were so different. I loved Mel's character and how she truly cared for her clients. There was the Mel that the world saw, and then there was the Mel that RA saw. We definitely need more Mel's in this world.
There were so many different dynamics between the characters- family ties, friendship, love and jon related. It was neat seeing how they all interconnected.
There was friendship, love, heartbreak and betrayal. I love how many emotions were captured through the story. This book was the first book that I have finished in less than a day in a long time. I just couldn't put it down. I can't wait for book 2!

Really rock over country.🤔

I'm a girl who pretty much has never heard any rock in her life. Yeah... ok. Maybe I have heard a little 90s rock, but that doesn't count. I've completely grown up on country and gospel music. So as I'm reading this book I can't help but sing in my head a country tune for the lyrics of the songs in the book.
I know I probably didn't do this book justice, but it was definitely one of the best plots I've ever read in a book where the author didn't screw it up.
So I gave a 5 star review because Michelle MacQueen has made a girl like me who opposes rock fall in love with a love story between a rockstar and a innocent girl who doesn't want to be famous. It was so sweet I could barely put it down. Michelle MacQueen really knows how to wrote a story.
I would recommend this book to any one who loves watching a... almost a Cinderella story plot take shape and evolve into the best book ever. Please read this book and see for yourself.😍
