Save My Daughter

Rate this book
As soon as we sat on the ride I knew something was wrong. I couldn’t relax. I couldn’t hear the theme park music, the giggles of my two other children. I’d left my baby in someone else’s care. And I knew I’d made a mistake…

With her two beautiful children and newborn baby Ella, Lily’s life is full of love and laughter. She gave up her job to be a stay-at-home mother, and though she sometimes envies the freedom of best friend Hannah, Lily wouldn’t trade it for anything.

But Lily’s world implodes when Hannah disappears with Ella one day, and Lily fears from the text message she receives that Hannah doesn’t intend to come back:

You don’t deserve her.

It’s true that Lily has been keeping secrets about her marriage from Hannah, ones she thought only she and her husband knew. Suddenly Lily realises that there are things she doesn’t know about Hannah too – and that by keeping her husband’s secrets, she might pay the ultimate sacrifice.

A rollercoaster ride of emotions, Save My Daughter will break your heart. Fans of Jodi Picoult, Kate Hewitt and Diane Chamberlain will be swept away by Sam Vickery’s utterly gorgeous novel.

This is a women's fiction book that has some hard hitting topics in it. The heart of this book is about two best friends that stops talking to each other during the time they really needed each other. I love the characters in this book, and their stories developed during this book. This book is so well written, and the storyline is everything. It shows how much women takes on, but it also shows if you do not know everything going on you can misjudge people. I really liked this book, and I have to say this book had me crying by the end of the book. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Bookouture) or author (Sam Vickery) via NetGalley, so I can give honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

An amazing book with some important life lessons.

What I loved most about this book was that along with dealing with issue of Ella's abduction, it highlights how miscommunication and misconceptions tend to destroy relationships. Through the various characters and their relationships with each other, the author has done an amazing job of explaining how important it is to be true and keeping secrets from those whom you consider to be your closest friends, can end being very painful and heartbreaking.

Overall, an excellent read!

Thank You NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC!

Lily and Hannah are best friends - friends who have always told each other everything. That all changes when Hannah takes Lily's baby Ella. Why did Hannah kidnap Ella? What secrets have the two women been keeping from one another that would drive Hannah to such a desperate act?

When Hannah looks at her friend, she sees someone living an idyllic life - a woman with a husband, two school-age children and now a new baby. Hannah doesn't have any of those things. In fact, there are things that she wants in life that seem incredibly out of reach. In most kidnapping cases, the parents and the police are rather frenzied trying to locate the kidnapper in order to rescue the child. However, in this case, it is perfectly clear that Hannah took Ella. In fact, she tells Lily in a note that she does not even deserve baby Ella.

Meanwhile, the story shifts to what is going on behind closed doors in Lily and husband's Jon's life. Difficult, life-changing things are happening, things that Lily kept from her best friend. While coping with their current situation, now they are desperately hoping to get Ella back safe and sound.

While the story is about locating baby Ella, it reaches far deeper. In fact, it touches on some significant issues that each woman faces. What is more is that the secrets they are each harboring just might prove to result in the collapse of the precious friendship that they had for years. This proved to be quite thought-provoking, leading me to wonder how things could have been so very different if trust and communication were stronger between Lily and Hannah.

This tender story delivers in two effective ways. One is the first person perspective from both Hannah and Lily. Also, there is the past and then way the story is told. This all plays together to create a compelling read that culminated in an evocative conclusion. Save My Daughter is an incredibly sensitive story that was so captivating, so touching and so emotional that I truly connected with Hannah and Lily.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

I don’t even know where to begin with Save My Daughter by Sam Vickery, but truth be told this story has left me a complete sobbing mess. This story is so raw and emotionally and will have you balling your eyes out.

Lily and Hannah have been best friends since they were eighteen years old. They shared everything together and were as close as two friends could ever be even as close as sisters. That is until secrets started to come in between them. Secrets strong enough to make Hannah do something so devastating and out of character. While out at a theme park with Lily, her husband Jon and their three children, William, Maisey, and baby Ella, Hannah made a split decision and walked away with Ella with the intent of keeping her as her own leaving fear and worry with Lily and Jon wondering if they will ever see their daughter again.

Save My Daughter is so much more than just a desperate act of one woman thinking she is doing the right thing in taking baby Ella. There is so much more within these pages that deal with such heavy and emotional topics such as infertility, dying, feelings of self worth, and desperation, but it also shows the other side of this too such as hope, resilience, family, forgiveness, and the things you do for the people you love. It is an emotional page turner that will completely destroy you and have you in tears crying your eyes out.

The story is told in first person through the voices of both Lily and Hannah and while I normally do not like first person, for this story it worked perfectly because I think you really needed to get into the minds of both women to understand why they do the things that they do. It also makes their stories more emotional and even though what Hannah does is wrong, through her story, we can find the compassion to understand the “why.” There is also a second storyline weaved in between that is utterly gut wrenching and definitely something that I could relate to on a person level. Of course, it is not something that I want to talk about and give away, but it was very emotional to me and really had such an affect on me that also had me crying.

I highly recommend reading this powerful moving story. Please just remember to have a box of tissues ready because I can promise you you will be needing them. Save My Daughter is a five star read!

Wow! A tender, love story of family, friendship, heartbreak and renewal!
Lily and Hannah have been best friends since they were eighteen, until paranoia, jealousy and a lot of secrets come between them.
Lily is a mother of three with a husband who loves his family more than anything.
Three young children can be overwhelming at times and very often is.
Lily shares only a bits and pieces of her role as a mum with Hannah, and often makes it appear as though she is ungrateful and exhausted with her life.
Hannah who has never wanted children, now decides she needs her own.
She will not share this with Lily. Lily may not understand.
She will do this on her own no matter what!
The day comes while they are all at a theme park, when a kidnapping occurs.
Their friendship is now on the line!
Can they ever find a way to resume their relationship and regain the trust that they have lost at a time when they truly need each other?

This book has so any layers and subjects and is very well done! It is a quick read filled with every emotion you can imagine! Well done!

Lily and Hannah have been best friends for a very long time, she thought she could trust her, when Lily and her husband Jon decided to treat the older two children to some family time at a theme park, they asked Hannah to join them. She loved baby Ella so it made sense her coming so she could watch her while Lily and Jon both went on the rides with the children. Hannah was like one of the family too.

They all get on the rollercoaster and Lily has a niggling feeling something’s not quite right. As soon as the ride ends she looks in the direction that Hannah was and she has gone, along with baby Ella!

Told in Lily and Hannah’s points of view we learn more about both characters, and why Hannah decides to take baby Ella.
It is full of emotion and a lot of worry and sadness, secrets are kept and eventually they come out. Even best friends don’t know everything about each other it seems.

This was a thoroughly gripping book with not only one story but several intertwined. It was fantastic.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'Save My Daughter' by Sam Vickery.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Sam Vickery, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 1st April 2020.

This is the third book I have read by this author. The previous book I read are called 'One Last Second' and 'My Only Child' which I loved and would also highly recommend.

I was originally drawn to this book by its eye catching and colouful cover and its captivating synopsis. The synopsis stated that this fans of Jodi Picoult, Kate Hewitt and Diane Chamberlain will be swept away by this book. I am a huge fan of all of their books so am interested to see if it will live up to this statement. I have also previously read two previous books by Sam which I loved and am hoping to enjoy this one just as much. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of a prologue, 44 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are short to medium to long in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in Dorset , UK 🇬🇧 . I always enjoy when books are set in the UK as I'm from Wales and have sometimes visited areas mentioned in the book. This makes it easier to picture the scenes. I have actually been on holiday in Dorset several times so it will be interesting to see if I recognise anywhere mentioned in the book.

This book is written in first person perspective with the protagonists being Lily and Hannah. The benefits of books written in first person perspective are as long as they are well written it makes you feel that you are being spoken to by the protagonist and it can create more of a bond between yourselves and them. If there are several protagonists you also get to see more of what is going on and feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.

It is set over multiple timelines (now, then and 'the day it all began' ). When books show what has happened in the past and what is happening in the present I find it really helps the reader (if it is well done) understand why things are happening and what has lead to the present activities and decisions.

Well, Well, Well, Sam Vickery you have done it again!!! Congratulations on yet another breathe taking novel!!

This book is extremely well written and the layout with the past and present chapters are perfect. They drip feed you information of what has gone on in the past with just the right amount of information to give you an idea of what is going on but not too much so that you work it all out. The cover and blurb work perfectly with the storyline.

Wow!! What an absolutely breathe taking and heart stopping storyline. Every mothers worst nightmare and as a mother it had me absolutely hooked. It is a beautiful and devastating plot that really shows the true devotion of a mother's love and the pains that someone may go through to have a baby and have that mothers love. It just completely blew me away and left me sitting there thinking what measures someone would go to to have that child and what would I do if I was in the situation of either Hannah or Lily. Would I forgive Hannah?

However, it wasn't just the one heart tugging storyline as you had the other subplot going on at the same time. I won't say too much as I don't want to give to much away but oh how I felt for Lily and Jon and everything they were going through. Have your tissues at the ready ladies and gents cause this one is a complete tear jerker!!!

The storyline was set at a perfect pace, not too fast and not too slow. It gave just the right amount of time for you to be able to take everything in as it was happening and question yourself about what you would do. It really is thought provoking.
It is an absolute roller-coaster ride of emotions and filled with love, deceit, secrets, tension and trust. A very powerful and gripping depiction of the power and intensity of a mother love and a fathers sacrifice. It sucked me in from page one until the tear jerking ending.

The characters are unique, well defined and realistic. The strength of Lily and Jon absolutely shine through as does the devastation Hannah is going through. Many would hate Hannah but if I was in that position I think I would do what Lily did, I think, at this time I would but who knows? Nobody knows how they would react until they are in that situation. I did have a lot of sympathy for Hannah but I also had sympathy for Lily and Jon. This book shows the power and devastation of not just a mother and fathers love but of friendship too.

I would absolutely love to see this turned into a movie!!! Another congratulations to Sam Vickery and I do believe that Jodi Picoult and Diane Chamberlain have some strong competition here when it comes to the book charts. Looking forward to her next gripping, and going by all her previous work, what promises to be heart rendering.

Overall a gorgeous, heart breaking, page turning, tear jerking and powerful novel of a parents love and sacrifice and a friends heartbreak and devastation. Powerful and addictive.

Genres covered in this novel include Psychological Fiction, Suspense and Religious Fiction amongst others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans Jodi Picoult, Diane Chamberlain and ANYONE looking for a powerful tear jerker.

299 pages.

This book is just £1.99 to purchase on kindle via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

Rated 5/5 (I LOVED it ) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.

Isn’t it wonderful to have someone you are so close to that it feels like they are family? You can share everything with them: the good things and the bad ones, the happy and the sad ones. They will always be there for you, like you will be for them. No matter what…

This sounds so good you would like it to happen in real life too, but unfortunately it’s not always like that. You keep in touch, you see each other often, but there is not only just school to worry about anymore. What you call venting might be seen as complaining by the other party. You drift apart a little because you made a promise. They start putting two and two together and come up with five, the already rather fragile relationship might be on the verge to breaking beyond repair on the worst possible moment …

When you are struggling to keep all the balls in the air, you might be envious of someone with a less hectic life. You might long for some peace and quiet, but honestly would you ever really want to trade places? Of course not, but some might see it as being ungrateful for everything you have got. They feel you don’t deserve it and take the matter in their own hands…

A lot of heartbreak in this very emotional story but also a lot of very beautiful moments that kept the tears flowing. The book kept me up till 2.30 because I wanted to finish it. I could not put it away and leave the rest for the next day. Once you are in the flow, you just have to go with it. 5 stars

Thank you, Sam Vickery and Bookouture

Lily and Hannah have been best friends since they first met at 18. But lately their friendship is strained, they're keeping secrets from each other and one day Hannah abducts Lily's newborn baby from the theme park they all have gone to spend a day together.
The title "Save my daughter" is somewhat deceitful in my opinion, because this is not only the story of baby Emma abduction, but of so much more.
The book, beautifully written, deals with themes like friendship, loyalty, love, motherhood, loss and grieve, evolving through a highly engaging plot full of twists and turns.
It is also deeply emotional and I'm not afraid to admit that it had me on the verge of tears a few times.
Definitely recommend!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Sam Vickery tore at my heartstrings yet again with Save My Daughter. I was first introduced to this author with My Only Child and I became an instant fan. She has a talent at creating characters that are so compelling, so REAL. I felt Lily’s emotions as much as I felt my own in this book. I can’t imagine what I would do if my child went missing and was taken by someone. I am fierce loving mom just like Lily, and my inner Mama Bear would be on the hunt trying to find my baby. Don’t mess with my kids!

The book was following a pretty predictable (yet completely riveting) path only to be unexpectedly detoured to a completely different direction. The whole tone of the book changed and I commend the author for pulling this off so seamlessly and perfectly. My emotions were in such a whirlwind! I can’t imagine any of this happening to me, and I couldn’t believe the decision that was made, or the ending! WOW!

I loved this book and I bet you will, too.

The author’s note really spoke to me:
“But those little misunderstandings and miscommunications can happen to all of us, causing us to assume the worst and jump to conclusions about the motives and intentions of our friends, our partners, our families.”

This applies not only to this book, but to life in general. I wish everyone would read this note and remember it. Life is too short, please be kind.

How can secrets one day become so big someone you trust with everything you hold so dear to your heart turns around and betrays that faith. Hannah decided that Lily is not capable of being the type of mother she think her friends kids need and deserve. So, the day her friend allows her to have the baby she walks away and intends to keep on going!

Yes, Lily and her husband have secrets they have been keeping from Hannah, but to come find out Hannah has been keeping secrets from her best friend as well.

Will Lily get her baby back and now what will happen to her friend, jail! What a quandary this has become because they have not communicated as besties should have in a friendship.

The author has written a poignant story of secrets and the intrigue of revealing them . It’s about how we take for granted relationships and relating to each other and being open and the author does such a remarkable job of intertwining life choices and drawing the characters together.

I found the book to be a PageTurner and would definitely recommend this book.
I received a free advanced copy from NetGalley and these are my willingly given thoughts and opinions.

This read really touches on so many topics and just had my emotions all over the place. I was hooked from the beginning. Told from the point of view of Lilly and Hannah in the past and present which I loved as you learned so much about each character and there relationship. The author really portrays how miscommunication and what your seeing isn’t necessarily what’s happening can cause upset and ruin relationships. I really enjoyed this book but beware it really pulls at the heart strings.

Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review this ARC that was published on the 1st of April.

Save My Daughter by Sam Vickery is a story that will have you emotionally invested from the very start. I have previously enjoyed the novels of Ms Vickery, and this latest proved to be no exception.

Lily and Hannah have a friendship that has endured through the ups and downs of life. But Lily has something that Hannah wants, and desperation will drive the latter to take measures that will take the friendship to a place so dark that there can be no easy return.

This is a beautiful story that explores the ties that bind, and the strength of a mother's live. Recommended. 4.5 stars

Two close friends. Except one day Hannah kidnaps Ellie, Lily"s youngest daughter. Why would she do that? Save My Daighter is a thoughtful, but sad book. Once the kidnapping has occurred, the author has the characters reflect on the past and what led to the kidnapping. And there's an even bigger revelation that was so heartbreaking. One of the best scenes is when Lily confronts Hannah. I thought Jonathan was too generous to Hannah. Readers will want to keep reading until the very end to discover the full story. Thanks to. NetGalley and Bookouture for the early copy.

We all want that best friend. The one that has been with you for so much of your life. Hannah and Lily have that. They met in their late teens and have been inseparable ever since even though their lives went in very different ways. Hannah was the career woman and Lily was the mom who loved being a mom but the timing of her third pregnancy was anything but what Lily wants to face at this point. After Ella was born, she knew she made the right decision.

One day, Hannah runs off with Ella and Lily’s life becomes agonizing. Why would Hannah take Ella? Hannah doesn’t even want kids. But Hannah has been keeping an enormous secret. But then, so has Lily. What happened to the friendship they had? True friends don’t keep secrets from each other do they? True friends are always there for each other. But there are certain boundaries that cannot be crossed in friendship and when Hannah crosses that line, Lily doesn’t even recognize the person she thought Hannah was.

That book is so emotional as Lily is trying to be everything for everyone and is starting to crack. She is raising three very different children and then her her husband asks her to promise something that no one should ever have to promise. Her friendship with Hannah is changing and Lily’s world is spinning out of control.

This is a fast read that covers friendship, parenting, illness trust and forgiveness. For the most part, I couldn’t stand Hannah and in my opinion, much of the storyline wasn’t plausible or realistic including the conclusion; especially the conclusion. While I didn’t enjoy all parts of the book, I will give the author another chance and read another of her books.

First, I want to thank Sam Vickery, Bookouture and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.

Save My Daughter is every parents worst nightmare come true. Sam Vickery's story is beautifully written, powerful, intense, and an incredibly emotional read. This is one to add to your TBR list.

Sam dedicates this book to her daughter, Aurora. That is such a beautiful name! She is her joy, her little shadow, and her love. She makes her smile a thousand times a day!

To the graphic artist who created the cover for Save My Daughter it is such a beautiful cover! The image of the sweet girl sitting in that beautiful scenery definitely captures the reader's attention. Not to mention the colors are so bright and cheery.

Sam incorporates some very important lessons into her book that will make everyone think twice. You never know what someone is going through unless you have walked in their shoes.

Other than important lessons she writes about important topics. Topics such as abduction, abortion, sperm donors, IVF, Non Hoskins Lymphoma and Leukemia.

Sam wrote some intense emotional scenes that totally tugged on my heart strings. Then again Sam always has a way of doing that to me in her stories. She is one author that I would read anything by.

I am a very proud Auntie and I couldn’t imagine if something like this were to happen to any of them. I was at the edge of my comfy chair in shock and literally felt everything Lily and Jon were going though. That part of the book was written extremely well!

The events leading up to the ending and even in the epilogue I didn't see coming. She surprised me on a few levels.

Oh my freaking God!! One of the characters in the book made me want to knock her on the head from the beginning to end, as I was sure she had no brains. Absolute idiot was what I would call her.

Hannah was convinced that best friend Lily didn’t deserve her newborn daughter or any of the children based on the frustration vented out by a mother who had 3 small children under the age 10. So using all her powers of false detection, she kidnapped the newborn. And sent a nasty text message to Lily.

The story by author Sam Vickery pulled at my emotions. In this day and age, an educated woman didn’t know how sacrosanct the secrets between a husband and wife were. I was boiling in fury at how judgmental Hannah was. Stealing her best friend’s baby was a no-no in my eyes.

The story moved on to the past of both the women and the secrets they had hidden. I learned that Hannah had her own problems and so did Lily and husband Jon. I was team Lily even when it took me time to warm up to her. Certain actions did cause me to doubt her. But taking a newborn who was being breast fed was unforgivable.

I wanted to give Hannah a chance to redeem herself, but she continued with her judgments right till the last four or five chapters, including a nasty confrontation in the waiting room of the ICU. As a doc, I would have called security and thrown her out of the hospital.

The author had inserted a lot of emotions at the end, but there was just too much resentment and anger in Hannah to allow the warmth of other emotions to seep through

Forgiveness was a theme that was propagated in the book along with strengths of friendship. But I couldn’t seem to get out of my anger against Hannah even when Lily forgave her.

As I wrote this review, I was filled with so much ire that I wanted to bop her one. I loved my gadgets too much to knock the screen hard. Whew… How do I rate this book!!

Save My Daughter by Sam Vickery brings every parent’s worst nightmare to the forefront. Lily and her husband have three children. Her best friend Hannah has none. When Jon and Lily decide to take the kids to the amusement park, they invite Hannah along to spend time with them and help with the baby so that they can devote more time to the oldest kids, but then Hannah does the unthinkable. She disappears, with Ella, the baby, while they are on the ride. What do you do when one of the people you trust the most betrays your trust in such a devasting manner? There is so much else going on in this story, threads woven in and out, that will make you wonder, and think. Secrets. Hardships. Pain. Misunderstandings. So what happens now? Read it. You won’t regret it. Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book.

Save My Daughter by Sam Vickery was just a beautifully written book. You "will need tissues" and a lot of them as it's a emotional heartbreaking hard read that will leave a lump on your throat and for your grabbing some tissues.

In Sam's latest book it covers so many sensitives issues like infertility, IVFs, kidnapping, parenthood, cancer, friendship and betrayal so go prepared to cry, I did

Hmmm.......Don't judge the book by its cover..........Well, I loved the cover and I did and the cover was just perfect for this latest book by Sam.

I highly recommend this latest book............5 star read.

BIg thank you to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

Some good, some bad

Interesting plot, since we know from the beginning who took Ella. Unfortunately, since we know that, the story unfolds through flashbacks and thoughts. So very many thoughts! It’s a lot of rehashing the same thing over and over again. Plus, it’s first person POV and the chapters will start with no idea who is speaking or thinking, for quite a few paragraphs. A simple character name for each chapter would solve that problem. But it kept my attention and I wanted to keep reading, even if I did skim read some pages. Worth a read if you can read for free on Kindle Unlimited.

Absolutely amazing story about love, friendship, secrets and redemption. Lily and Hannah have been friends for years. Lily and Jon have three beautiful children. Hannah secretly would love to be a mom. But Hannah’s inability to be truthful and to share her struggle with her best friend sends her down an unfortunate path.
Why would Hannah take her best friends baby? Will Lily ever see her baby Ella again?

I loved this book from the first page! Thank you Netgalley for complimentary copy.

Must read unforgettable story.

Save My Daughter

Wow just Wow.
I had tears running down my face from this book.
Two women, Lily and Hannah, best friends from childhood. One a career woman and the other a wife and mother.
They are both carrying secrets they haven’t shared with each other, causing their closeness to fracture.
Then Lily’s baby is abducted causing secrets to be revealed.
You must read this well written, thought provoking story that will remain with you long after the ending.

A great story that is so gut wrenching tale concerning the struggles of raising kids and putting her career on hold but now really wants to do what's best for her family. The woman's best friend is concerned that the woman is miserable and wants to help in whatever she thinks will help including taking her friend's infant but the result is not what is needed. It is written so well you find yourself turning the pages quickly. Fantastic book . Start this book when you have few hours because once you start it you can't put it down until you have finish the book. 5 stars!

An emotional look at friendship and families

I love Sam Vicker's writing. Her books deal with imperfect people, scenarios, and relationships. Mysterious motives are explained chapter by chapter. My favorite book is, "Her Silent Husband", but all three I've read so far have kept my interest.

save my daughter

Great story this has made me think of how much your children have been with you as they have become adults mothers and now grandmothers every minute you spend with your loved ones is precious I lost my husband after 30 years of marriage it is hard to go on without them but having my daughters close to me helped me to be strong

save My Daughter

Jumping to the wrong conclusions and keeping secrets when there is no need, can lead to broken friendships etc. A book written around these things made a heart breaking story. The final chapters put things right, along with strong words and many tears.
Parts of this novel I didn’t enjoy, but mainly a good read.

I originally picked up this book because it was compared to the writing of Diane Chamberlain, whom I love. I'm sorry to say that that couldn't be further from the truth. The writing was flat and I honestly didn't feel any of the emotion that was promised in the blurb. I get that I'm in the minority, but I absolutely despised it. There's no way I would recommend it to anyone.

Absolutely dreadful

This book is by far one of most depressing, whilst also being boring at the same time, books I have ever read. The blurb was promising, but unfortunately the whole story didn’t deliver.
