Her Billionaires #2

It's Complicated

Rate this book
WARNING: This book does NOT end in a cliffhanger. It is NOT too short (450 pages). It has a Happily Ever After ending. No secret billionaires or naked rock stars.

And no one kisses a chicken. Pinky promise.

From USA Today Bestselling Author Julia Kent:

Hot make-out session? Check. With the dreamy obstetrician? Check. While her best friend is in labor? Um...

It's Complicated.

Josie Mendham never meant to have her own (radically different) set of gasps and moans a few doors down from where her best friend, Laura, was giving birth. And stealing away with the obstetrician who was consulting on Laura's case certainly wasn't part of any birth plan.

When Dr. Alex Derjian watched the foursome enter the labor ward he did a doubletake: two dads? That defied biology as he knew it. Even more intriguing was the woman with the birthing mother and the fathers: Josie, the nurse he'd been watching from afar for months. One elevator kiss led to an on-call room soiree and soon he was breaking every romantic rule in his playbook.

Finding his way into her pants wouldn't be hard.

But into her heart? That would be a challenge.

It's Complicated is the much-awaited novel that combines the stories of Laura, Mike, Dylan, Josie, and Madge from the Her Two Billionaires series with Darla, Trevor and Joe from the USA Today Bestseller Random Acts of Crazy, with Alex and Josie at the center of it all.

Romantic Comedy meets New Adult romance in this 130,000 word/450 page novel that asks whether people can get out of their own way and learn that love isn't easy...but it's always worth it.

Dnf 35% (although I was skimming before 10%)

I can't read any more of this. For every paragraph of action there's roughly two pages of internal monologue waffle. I found it tedious. And for a romantic comedy, it wasn't very funny either. Ah well.

I was super excited to start this book! I needed something lighthearted and the description taunted me with just that. It's Complicated had great reviews, was written by a USA Today Bestselling Author AND it was on sale for $.99....hell yes! That was, until I actually started reading this book. I'm all for a hot, steamy sex scene or ten but that's all Alex & Josie had. There was no chemistry between these characters. The connection seemed forced to me, I had no attachment to these characters, whatsoever. I never start a book and leave it unfinished, no matter how bad. This is the only reason It's Complicated got finished.

On a final note, the only reason this book even earned two stars from me is because I am a Grey's Anatomy junkie and not only were the references there so were the storylines. From the storyline of the Alzheimer's trial and Merideth....cough....Josie thinking of ruining it for someone in the trial she knows to the doctor contemplating stitching his own face. Ummm...paging Dr. McSteamy?! Seriously disappointed from start to finish.

As the final installment in this crazy-fun series, Julia Kent did not disappoint!

Josie is just as spunky and smart-assed as always, but now she's feeling a bit lost. Suddenly, she's found herself with an abundance of time to herself. Her best friend is finally ready to give birth to her first child with her two lovers, and will no doubt be jumping into her new role as a mother, leaving Josie to find another coffee buddy, but when Josie spots the OB doc on the case all bets are off.

Alex can't believe his luck! The cute little nurse from his grand-father's doctors office is here, in his hospital, and with a laboring woman. That was just the 'in' he needed. Alex made sure that he was consulted on the case, though the midwife was more than competent, and he had every faith in her abilities, it just gave him a reason to be close ... and to talk to the petite woman who had such a firm hold on his attention and other parts of his anatomy. His luck holds out, and he finds himself with the lovely Josie in the on-call room, but they are interrupted when Laura's labor progresses to the home-stretch.

As they continue to see each other, stress and insecurities threaten to wreck their budding relationship while stubborn pride keeps them from fixing the problems. Will they find a way to overcome their pasts and come together to fill the void inside themselves with the love that is ever present with them?

We get to see Laura and her billionaire boyfriends, along with Darla and her two hot musicians as well.
With all this going on, how could this book not be phenomenal?!

This is latest in the "series" of books linked loosely together, starting with the Billionaire serial, but which are fine to read as a stand-alone. I have read them all and they just get better and better.

This is not a menage story but the characters from the other menage novels feature highly in this.

The couple in It's Complicated, Alex and Josie, are a laid back surgeon and an angst full nurse, neither of whom have had the easiest of upbringings; Josie much more so and she is loath to connect with any man, preferring to remain aloof so that she can't be hurt.

Julia writes her books so well with such depth of feeling: This is not flighty chick-lit but a story about the problems of real people and their relationships. Having said that this is the funniest of her books and they all contain a lot of humour. I laughed out loud a lot while reading It's Complicated. Some of the situations Julia creates are hilarious and her dialogue is extremely funny.

Alex and Josie have a particular kink that makes for some exciting reading and the erotic scenes are, as usual, wonderfully written and very, very sexy.

Add to the that the exceptionally reasonable price of Ms Kent's stories and it couldn't get any better. I have added Julia to my own personal list of top ten romance writers.

A very highly recommended book.

I couldn't even make it through the first two chapters. And I hate that because I hate to not finish a book. Especially one that I was very excited to read. In my case, I was too busy screaming and cussing Josie to even focus on the story. Really, grab Laura by her hair and drag her ass to the hospital. And all Laura is concerned about is having Josie start a dating site that caters to threesome couples, and stuffing her face, and living in denial that she's actually in labor. I thought this would be a great book about the relationship between Josie and Dr. Alex, but the two chapters I read focused more on Laura, Dylan and Mike.

Love this story. While it dealt with an aging family member and the struggles of new motherhood some of the events around everything were quite comical. I love how Josie and Alex dealt with everything going on around them then finally coming together.

It's Complicated (Her Billionaires #2)

The love story of Josie and Alex. Alex is a doctor who has to be perfect and do what the patients want when having a baby. He has the lowest c-section rate in the hospital. He met Josie when he toke his grandfather to Alzheimer's Trials and against when Laura was having her baby.
Josie is a nurse who has a commitment phobia. She is a love them and leave girl. When she met Alex at the hospital while Laura is have a baby, her world when upside down. Can she learn to commit to Alex or will she run when he get to close?

It's complicated... the catch all phrase for all things Josie. I really enjoyed this book. The fact that we saw characters from some of Julia Kent's previous books the Billionaire Series and Random Acts of Crazy only made it better.

Josie's perfectly ordered (by her of coarse) life was sent whirling when she meets Dr Alex Derjian aka Dr Perfect while her best friend Laura ( from the billionaire series) is giving birth to her daughter. The dynamics between these two is hot from the very beginning. They can't seem to keep their eyes and hands off each other. But during her best friends labor? Worst timing ever!

Josie has not had the easiest time growing up. This not only makes her extremely cautious but it seems like she's constantly running away from Alex. I really liked the fact that Alex gave her room but still chased after her. Both of these characters have their own challenges. The question here is, when a physical relationship turns into something more, do they both have the courage to stand and fight for it?

I was pleasantly surprised by the direction this book took. Halfway through I made the assumption that some events would come to happen before the ending and I was really happy that it didn't work out that way. This is definitely a keeper and one that I would not only highly recommend but will definitely read again.

What could be simpler than a nurse and doctor falling in love? Well in this case it's complicated.

While this book can be read as a stand alone novel, it is best read following the Her Two Billionaire's Series and Random Acts of Kindness. It's Complicated is the glue that pulls it all together.

To make love a bit less complicated one must follow the following rules:
1. Start with a nurse determined to avoid commitments at all cost.
2. Add in a doctor head over heals for the nurse, and who doesn't know what to do about it.
3. Throw in two separate menage triads
4. Create chaos at work and changing careers

Somehow it all comes together to create a beautiful love story. Julia Kent has the ability to take (somewhat) everyday people, put them in the strangest situations, and make us (the reader) fall in love with falling in love all over again.

This is a long book, but well worth the time to read it. Grab your Nook, get comfortable, you won't be able to put it down. I can't wait to read what happens next.

It's Complicated did not disappoint! You should get it! It has the characters from the Billionaire series - Lauren, Mike, Dylan and of course Josie. Add to into the mix Alex who throws a monkey wrench into the mix, especially for Josie, who is normally sarcastic, witty and of course doesn't feel she is worthy of love and feels she is imperfect which makes Alex her "Dr. Perfect". This book is Josie and Alex's love story, it feels so real, as all of Julia Kent's characters do. Throughout this book I laughed out loud, especially at some of the scenes which involved Mike, Lauren and Dylan's baby. I cried when Josie struggled with her feelings which surface after the birth of Lauren's daughter, along with what she feels for Alex and her mother!

I received an ARC copy of this book and I am glad that I did, before reading "It's complicated I recommend that you read her Billionaire series. I enjoyed Julia Kent's Maliciously Obedient and Suspicously Obedient and immediately decided she was an author I would continue to read.

DNF @ 38%. I wanted to like this book. The characters are very likable, but I just couldn't do it. I felt like I had read the same scenario over and over and I was only in a third of the way through the book. It was too slow for me.

Not exactly what I was looking for in a completion to the series' of books but I'm glad Josie got her head outta her ass... Well, and Alex, he needed to get his own head out of his ass for awhile there too.

Book 2: It's Complicated
3 stars
I purchased on KU a copy of the steamy novel It's Complicated: Her Billionaires book 2 by Julie Kent and this review was given freely.
A story of finding love, trust, and stability despite a dysfunctional family combined with a steamy instant attraction romance with a preference for outdoors. A good story but vivid at times over the top descriptions and unfiltered scenes may not be for everyone. Carrying the name of one of Dylan's standard phrases this novel depicts Laura and Josie's close friendship becoming more distant as Laura's family takes up her time, Josie receiving the dubious honor of the only one to know the baby's paternity, the potential job of running a menage based dating service is brought up, as well as an emotional and at times humorous rendition of giving birth combined with Josie's steamy budding romance with OB resident Dr.Alex Derjian.
Can be read as a standalone as it contains recaps from the four preceding sections but is best if read in order. I skimmed over most of the vivid intimate scenes.
18+ recommended for vivid intimate scenes.

Book 3: Completely Complicated: The wedding containing the novellas Complete Abandon, Complete Harmony, Complete Bliss and Complete We.
3 stars
I purchased on KU a copy of the steamy novel Completely Complicated: Her Billionaires book 2 by Julie Kent and this review was given freely.
This is the rocky romance of Alex and Josie with a heavy emphasis on Josie's dysfunctional family, her cousin Darla's moving to Boston with her two male band partners Trevor and Joe but also weaves in an update on the sleep deprived parents Laura, Mike and Dylan. I skimmed over most of the vivid intimate scenes.
18+ recommended for vivid intimate scenes

Book 4: Always Complicated
4 stars
I purchased on KU a copy of the steamy novel Always Completely Complicated: Her Billionaires book 4 by Julie Kent and this review was given freely.
Jumping four years into the future this is emotional, stress filled and at times suspenseful, we are shifted from Boston to the reunion of dysfunctional family members in a Maine campground where another rich threesome are in the owner's family and, best friends Laura and Josie plan to marry their men but life events and doubts interfere. I skimmed over most of the vivid intimate scenes.

This was a great read.  Such a sweet story with a kick ass kinky twist.  That is correct people.  This book is no PG-13 love story.  It is a very unique spin on romance.

In this story Josie is Laura's support for her upcoming delivery of her new baby.  At the hospital Josie meets an incredible Dr named Alex.  And boy does he really put the moves on her.  What Alex can't figure out is how Laura has two baby daddies there for the birth.  Not just there for the birth, but seem to be very involved with Laura.  hmmm?

Josie has a very low self-esteem and she does not do relationships due to this.  Alex and Josie have a really rough time not pissing each other off.  Will these two get it together?  Will they ever find that happily ever after?

This book is very interesting.  I love the whole twist on the romance.  The characters are so funny and are complete smartasses.  They have lots of spunk, making them highly entertaining.  Laura cracks me up with her crazy ways.  One of my favorite parts is when Josie walks into the room to visit  and Laura is bent over baby Jillian with the baby's foot in her mouth.  Josie states "Ummm...hi?  The hospital food isn't good here, I guess?  Did motherhood turn you into a cannibal?"  Too funny.  Not to mention the most said phrase in the book is the title "It's Complicated!"

This book is a light-hearted read with some very steamy sex in some interesting places.  Nothing better than a little danger of getting caught, right?!  Throw in some hunks and you got yourself one heck of a romantic book.

I was not a huge fan of this, for a variety of reasons.
1. Josie was not likable. She's chaotic, she's exhausting, and she has a whole lot of baggage that doesn't get explained. Literally, I was 70% of my way through the book and still did not understand why she had the issues she had. This was not resolved by the end.
2. It felt dated. And I know that literally, at this point, it is dated. But it felt especially dated. Like nineties/aughts dated. It was uber saccharine sweet and an omniscient narrator a la classic Harlequins. Not my style.
3. We get it. Josie doesn't like babies. And she's not comfortable with pregnancy, or labor and delivery, or postpartum. WE GET IT. It goes on and on and on. Like to the point that if you're having a baby soon, probably don't read it.
4. There is so much time spent on curing Josie of her, to quote the book, "f***edupedness" that it felt like I was sloughing through all of that to get to the romance.

All that being said, I did like Alex. I thought he was a sweet and fun character.

This book follows on from book four but with a focus on different characters. This book follows the characters Josie and Alex. You will fall in love with these characters as you read. This author has a fab way of making the characters feel so real. This story will have you laughing out loud and crying ugly tears as you read. The characters from the first book as still in this book and you can also follow there story as well.

I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

Oof! This was some kind of emotional roller-coaster. But with Josie as the heroine, were we expecting anything else? It’s easy to see the spark between Alex and Josie, but both of them have some growing to do before they’re ready to tackle forever together. I enjoyed this book a lot more than the first one. The characters are complex, and I could understand their motivations. They still frustrated the heck out of me with their determination to sabotage their relationship, but at least I could understand why they kept tripping themselves up.

What an amazing book!!! I loved watching Josie & Alex find each other! Their chemistry was so crazy, but what I really loved was watching these two deal with their issues together. This was such an entertaining book. I was hooked from the first page and I couldn't put it down!! Plus I loved seeing past characters!

A pretty serious book, mainly about Josie and her struggles with her emotional past.
The present and future are already going well, but something is missing.
Maybe Alex can help with that?
Her friends fortunately have some great advice.

DNF - when I started reading, I was confused. It kept talking about 3 friends to the main character - a girl. I thought this is a longterm threesome relationship. A chapter or two later it was verified. For me it felt too unreal and I was uninterested. I like a feel good boy meets girl books.
