📚 Hello Book Friends! SHAMANISM FOR EVERY DAY: 365 JOURNEYS by Mara Bishop is a wonderful guide to help people understand and practice Shamanism. The content is written in a language that anyone can understand and relate to. It opened my eyes and removed many of my preconceived notions about Shamanism. I am glad I read this fantastic book and although I am not ready to embark on a shamanism journey, I am opened to it. I have integrated some of the suggested journey themes in my meditations and they have enhanced my sessions. If you are interested to learn more about Shamanism, I recommend this book. It is a great tool to get started and put into practice.
I love this book, because I can pick it up and read one page and gain cheerful insights any time, any day of the year. Unlike devotional books tying their readings to a particular day, “365” starts any day and you can put it down and pick it up at your own pace. Some days, hungry for more insights I get into a rhythm and forage til my mind is full.
Mara Bishop, an experienced shamanic practicioner, portrays shamanism as a practice, not a creed. Like meditation, its techniques of mental journeying can be used along with other belief systems. In “365” she opens up many possibilities to use it in our daily life. The daily essays, each with a thought-provoking quote from writers and leaders around the world, bring us to contemplate nature (“Bees” and “Night Sky” and “Silence”) and modern tussles (“Conscious Technology” and “Overwhelm.”) I had not practiced journeying for several years, and this book encouraged me to pick up the practice again. If it inspires you to start or return to journeying, the book will be doing its job.
Perhaps it's not always in good taste to brag about a power animal that one meets, but lately I've been thinking and grieving about losses from the past, in my life and in the environment of our earth. Today in my journey appeared a beautiful brown mastodon. The extinct, hairy elephant reminded me I couldn't bring it back to life, but it could accompany me in my search to understand.
In the book's appendix, “Expanding Your Practice,” Mara is unafraid to answer Q&A's for shamanism dummies such as “What if I'm making it all up?” and “What if nothing happens in my journey?” Answers (I'm paraphrasing): pay attention to what your mind makes up; and just relax and meditate.
Take this book everywhere you go. It helps calm a frazzled soul in a crazy world.
I love this beautiful book of spiritual journeys. I can go in order or pick one randomly depending on how I feel. It’s a lovely way to start every day.
If you are looking for well written, bite sized mindful meditations, this is the book for you. Bishop presents a theme a day and an idea for exploring and keeping it in your consciousness. What sets it apart from other, similar books is that she is well aware of the demands already placed on most of us with jobs, family and the daily demands of 21st century living. Bishop's ideas are very do-able and very relevant. And, my favorite part? This quote: "Remember 365 Journeys is meant to be a support for you, not a burdensome "to do" list item. Enjoy the "journey" of your day whether or not it includes this specific practice."
A friend gifted this to me and I absolutely love it! I am interested in journeying with plants (non-hallucinogenic) and this is perfect.
I love that this is a wonderful size for travel. I’ve had to travel every month and it easily fits in my purse.
The author does a good job at the beginning explaining journeying and how to begin. I need step-by-step guidance and found it very helpful.
While I’m someone who will often open a book like this and ask, “What do I need to hear/do/explore today?” I loved that there was an index of daily journeys so if I’m looking for something specific I can find it.
The journeys are a page long but packed with lots of wisdom. The reality is, at this point in my life, I can’t devote every day, or even weekly, to journeying, so I appreciate that I can read a journey and still get a lot of benefits and contemplate the journey. This is a great way for me to ensure I'm doing something daily to soothe my soul and work on personal development.
There was also a lovely appendix on expanding your practice that includes ceremonies and rituals.
While I’m a beginner at journeying, I think non-beginners, and those not necessarily interested in journeying, would also get a lot of use out of this book. If you’re interested in adding more tools to your toolbox for your spiritual practice, this is a great guide. If you love nature as I do, you’ll probably find it very valuable as well

The author begins the book with an introduction to Shamanism and Journey work. She discusses the importance of a teacher or guide. The remainder of the book is broken down into daily entries for the reader to use as meditation or journey work prompts. She also goes into detail about journeys to the Lower World, Upper World, and Middle World.
The entries are short, thoughtful, and insightful. They give the reader pause to think. I can see using them as jumping off points for journey work to other worlds. I have done journey work while I was studying Seidr and Norse studies. The author includes tips for drumming and contacting with your spirit animal. I recommend this book to anyone interested in Shamanism or meditation. It is nice to have small
