Many methods for self-determined dying require the use of a strongly effective sleeping drug. In the hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine method, the sleeping agent ensures that the lethal and painful effect on the heart is not consciously experienced; in the "plastic bag and sedatives" method, the sleeping agent ensures that alarm reactions to the rising CO2 content inside the bag are suppressed.
