Wanted: American nanny for an adorable four-year-old. Must be able to handle a moody, brooding, sexy British boss.

I’m a single father, a lawyer and some say the most serious man in London. I’m completely focused on raising my four-year-old daughter.

Since my wife walked out three years ago, the only woman who has ever caught my eye is the strictly off-limits sister-in-law of my best friend, Autumn Lumen.

But temptation is easy to resist because Autumn is only visiting London from Oregon.

Until she moves to London. The nanny quits. And she’s the only woman for the job.

Not goodreads randomly deleting my rating and review but leaving all the comments WHY 💀

I have exactly zero energy to repeat said review so here are the highlights: plot was all over the place and the story is inter-connected with the rest of books in Mister series so you can't really read it as a standalone without compromising your knowledge of characters (contrary to what the author is marketing).

Oh, and one more thing - it was BORING. Hope this sufficiently addresses the merits and content of the story so that my review can remain here for posterity 🥰😇

Oh Mr. Smithfield holy heavenly hotness on a cracker or scone. Yes Gabriel please have your wicked way with me!
Louise you have given us a swoon worthy devoted dad with a side of naughty ! Now let's add in he is a gentleman in the streets and a dirty talking alpha man in the sheets, behind closed doors and when he is getting exactly what and who he wants.
Autumn is our sweet, sassy, down to earth and caring nanny taking care of the little spit fire and cuteness overload daughter of Gabriel. She may have a bit of a crush on her big brooding boss but she knows that she is way out of his league and not even on his radar....or is she???
The slow burn and wonderful witty banter is just delightful with this couple and then when he begins to romance her, hold on to your knickers it is about to get real. Yes we have feelings, drama, naughtiness, romance and so much fun with this little group and their wonderful gang of friends ! Loved being pulled into their world and once again catching up with some of my favorite characters.

4.5 Becoming You Stars
* * * * 1/2 Spoiler Free
When parents show their children who they are and it isn't the best, it leaves a lasting impression. It can make the child decide when they become a man of how they never want to be anything like what they experienced. It can drive them to make decisions based on a falsehood, on thinking that by pursuing a certain type of career, of marrying who he thought would be right, he would never be like his dad. This concept is front and center for our main character, Gabriel, in the interconnected books by Louise Bay.

Gabriel comes from old money and his father lived a Trust Fund Baby lifestyle.
Gabriel swore he would never be like that, with no purpose in his life. He married the woman he thought was right, they had a beautiful little girl, and soon after, the woman left him, never explaining why. This caused him to dedicate himself to taking care of his daughter, setting aside everything but work. He would provide and care for her as if his life depended on it, and it did.

Autumn finds herself in London. She has landed an intern program at a company that has now informed her, it has been put on hold for six months. Autumn has worked too hard to give up, she has been focused on traveling overseas for years. Autumn has a very strong sense of how to see things...to be as positive as she can. Luckily her sister Hollie found love with Dexter, one of Gabriel's guys and he needs a nanny for his daughter.

This is perfect, Autumn will live under Gabriel's roof, working and taking care of Bethany, and then going on a month-long tour of Europe before starting her job.

It all sounds so simple but in practice, maybe not.

Because Gabriel is Magazine Ad Handsome, Grumpy, and Broody. He is hard to resist but resist him Autumn does. Little does she know Gabriel is having the same issues...but due to the heartbreak he had with his ex, he vows to keep his head down and stay away from Autumn.

It is only a matter of time...
And when circumstances cause them to cross the line...Yum.

There is much more to this than the romance of these two. It is learning to understand what really is important, what makes you tick, and to find that thing in life and go for it. If You Love What You Do Every Day, Then You Never Are Just Working...You are Doing What You Love.

(2,5 estrellas).

I loved this story so much, it is nice, sweet, hot and a very pleasure to read.

Gabriel is your typical serious lawyer, all work and zero fun, unless he is with his precious daughter. Autumn on the contrary is a ray of sunshine, all smiley and joyful.
Gabriel has a lot of reasons to stay away from his daughter’s nanny but will he be strong enough to resist to the attraction he feels every time he sees Autumn?

Autumn’s attitude to make lemonade when life gives her lemons makes her my favourite character, I was glad to see her relationship with Gabriel becoming deeper and stronger chapter after chapter.
I adored that even if she is so much younger than him she isn’t naive or immature.

I recommend to read this book and I’m already looking forward to the next.

Another delicious British hero for me to fall in love with, written to perfection from Louise Bay. A broody British gentleman in an age-gap romance? Yes, oh yes, please!!! Gabriel Chase is sexiness in a broodingly perfect package. 5 Best of British stars

Mr. Smithfield is a standalone contemporary romance by Louise Bay. It is told from both points of view and has with a happy ending. Genre: contemporary romance Trope: nanny/roommates romance | single dad | age gap

Gabriel Chase is a stoic, hardworking lawyer whose top priority is his daughter. He has no room for women, nor the inclination to seek a relationship especially after his ex-wife shattered his heart. He only needs a nanny to help with his daughter. But can he resist Autumn’s eternal sunny disposition?

This book as a whole is hot and intense, well written with a lot to like, especially the sexy alpha hero. However, I felt a bit lost, as if I had jumped into the middle of the story where the main characters already knew each other and they were settled together. Since this is my first book by this author I wondered if there was a prequel I’d missed.

Disappointed

Over the last several months, we have been teased by snippets of this book. I have been so excited, waiting on it. Boy was it a disappointment. I didn’t feel any of the chemistry between Autumn and Gabriel. I found Autumn a little annoying. The conversations between Autumn and Hollie were odd. Hollie needed to mind her own business. Then the whole Penelope returning. I don’t know. This book just did not flow to me. I was highly disappointed.

Every time I read a book by this author I want to jump back and read everything I have yet to read! There really needs to be more minutes in a day. Seriously.

I finished this book a couple of weeks ago but dove right into the audio as soon as I could and let me tell you guys something, I only thought this story was delicious before the audio! Even tho I knew the plot points already, audio adds a different dimension to a story and a story with sexy, broody, swoon out of my mind Gabriel … well, the audio on that is just wow!! But I digress lol Let’s chat about the actual story!

Just grab me by the heart and don’t let go! That’s this story. I can’t even pin-point the best thing about this story because it was all just the best. I loved how well the age-gap between Gabriel and Autumn and their different life paths seemed to be on the opposite track of a HEA for them but yet it is exactly what put them on that path! Their sexual chemistry was beyond hot and sweet mother of Peter I thought I was having hot flashes on more than one occasion! Aside from the chemistry sexually, they also had chemistry as friends and more. Their journey is emotional and not always smooth, but it’s also hopeful and full of heart. Sigh, I loved it, and now I wish I’d read all the Mr books!! But fear not, I shall get to them sooner or later :)

Well, that was disappointing.
No chemistry on page between MCs.
Where was the romance?
Unrealistic kid dialogues.
The ex-wife drama was RIDICULOUS and so contrived.
I picked this one up after liking Mr Bloomsbury (book 5) but it failed despite the tropes I usually enjoy in my romance.

If I could get my money back, I would. Autumn who is in her 20's is a nanny for Gabriel's daughter Bethaney. Gabriel's wife leaves him when Bethaney was 1 to 'find herself. Now she's back and wants to be a Mummy and a wife. Autumn wants to give the bitch a 2nd chance when Gabriel doesn't want anything to do with her. Is the author really writing this shit!!!! Is Autumn being that stupid and naive??? How old are we again??? I would really like my money back and not continue to read nonsense.

I think this would work extremely well as a standalone but I read it as part of a series so I have some thoughts about that later 🧐

First the positives. I loved how Gabriel and Autumn really tried everything to not fall for each other (especially because everyone in their lives was telling them "you better not date the other!!!!") but how they really found each other over the other's love for Bethany, they really became their own little family unit so quickly.

I think the age gap was handled gracefully and honestly, as long as it's acknowledged and talked about by the characters, you're already a step ahead in my game. With the age-gap, of course, we got all the overprotectiveness from Gabriel (and the sugar daddy vibes lol) and I love how we continue this theme of the series where the Heros will just do anything and all to to give their heroines what they need 🥺

I think the plotline with Gabriel's ex was honestly just unnecessary but I like how it ended, we don't often see that in romances.

So, overall, very sweet romance, had my fun with it! But there were loads of things that for me just seemed inconsistent with the previous books.

I don't know if I missed anything but I don't remember Gabriel being this much of a withdrawn dick at times? I always read him as much sweeter and at the beginning I honestly couldn't recognize him.

Yes, Autumn is very sweet and lovely and maybe that's just my opinion but her sister paid for her whole college education and now that she's got her degree, it seems like we've just forgotten that. Personally, I would be so embarrassed by that and if not, I'd be thanking that woman for the rest of my life for letting me live my college life while she was busy working her ass off. Just my opinion though 🤷🏻‍♀

Those points made it a bit hard for me to get into the story but as with the previous book, my main takeaway is that I had a really fun experience listening to these books!

I won't continue with the series because all the other guys seem like absolute dickheads but I'll definitely be picking up more Louise Bay books :)

I loved Autumn and Gabriel's love story and Bethany was adorable. An age gap, single dad romance with a nanny, this book really hit the spot! Even though autumn was only 23, she had a good head on her shoulders and I loved that. Gabriel was the best! His relationship with his daughter was lovely and I thoroughly enjoyed watching them get their happily ever after.

Autumn was such a dumb heroine for making Gabriel make it work with his ex wife because she knew he wanted a family. Bitch you were already a family with him?? anyway, gabe saved this book, i adored his love for his daughter and how he knew what he wanted despite Autumn making him think she was not what he wanted

He is a single dad who needs a nanny and she is the perfect woman for the job and his life.

Gabriel is a lawyer that works long hours trying to keep demanding clients happy. His life hasn't been the same since his wife left him as a single parent, but he is in a much better place than he was. When a friend's sister, Autumn, needs a temporary residence and vocation, Gabriel asks her to fill in temporarily as his daughter's nanny despite his strong attraction to the woman.

Autumn is thrilled to be out of small town Oregon and living in London near her sister. When the most beautiful man she has ever seen asks her to be his nanny, she quickly agrees putting her plans to travel on hold.

Gabriel is almost a decade older than Autumn but he can't help but be attracted to her. For him, she brings out the sunshine side of life that he didn't know he was missing. His life, as well as his daughter's, is better because Autumn is in it. For Autumn, she feels the need to remind herself daily that this dream is her life. While she wouldn't want to be a nanny for her career, her brief time spent with Bethany and Gabriel have been bliss. Time for Autumn to leave approaches and life hits each of them with some curve balls. Despite the challenges, will the two decide they share a future even if it's overwhelming?

Spoilers!!

Fun, light romance with age gap with the nanny (in a non creepy way). Autumn is sunshine and Gabriel is the stoic grump. Their connection is lovely and they complement each other well. Gabriel is a mature teammate that encourages Autumn to practice negative emotions and feelings in a healthy way. Autumn breathes life and light in Gabriel in an enjoyable way.
My one issue is the conflict in the 3rd act felt forced and unnecessary. I see where the author is coming from, but IMHO the MCs make foolish decisions. There is a great grand gesture and nice HEA.

Bonus: more of the Mister men

Opposites most definitely attract in this single dad/nanny romance. Grumpy lawyer Gabriel Chase finally goes against his better judgement and makes a move on his daughter’s nanny (who just happens to be his best friend’s sister), Autumn Lumen, 10 years his junior, and a complete and utter ray of sunshine. She loves musicals, she pushes him to enjoy life, and she loves his daughter, sweet 4 year old Bethany. Got to say though. It took me a good few chapters to get into this book. I was loving the way the story was going, I just wasn’t warming to Autumn or her sister very much. No clue why, I just wasn’t feeling it. Then all of a sudden it all clicked and I couldn’t put my darn kindle down. A completely addictive, sweet, angst free romance with a grumpy, hot, dirty talking Brit, who might I add, is completely swoon-worthy. He gave me all the feels, I loved him so so much.

Gabriel is raising his daughter alone and is in need of a nanny. Autumn is starting a new job in September but needs something for a few months. She becomes Gabriel's nanny and the attraction is immediate between them. His wife left three years ago and has not been seen. She comes back and wants her family back. Gabriel must decide between his love for Autumn or his wife who left him with a young daughter.
