Aarika Symonds is an ambitious caterer whose life seems to have cooked up more than she can handle. The man who was supposed to stand by her side through thick and thin separates from her in the most heartbreaking way… leaving her all alone – until Major Abraham, an attractive hustler, finds himself helping her mend the damage her ex-fiancé caused. Major’s heart was supposed to belong to Aarika the second they locked eyes. What could’ve been a fatal moment turned into a lifetime connection between the two. Fate would call their unconventional connection a sacred love that was always meant to be, but when jealousy and betrayal step into the picture, a love that is supposed to be destined seems unattainable. Can a love so divine survive when a temptress they’re both connected to makes it her sole mission to destroy it?
Aarika is a woman battling multiple mental illnesses. After a near death experience, she meets Major, seemingly her guardian angel. Their attraction to each other and the chemistry they share is undeniable. But because of Aarika's past, her heart is guarded, seemingly pushing him in to the arms of her stepsister. Throw in some drama, a little book club action and some heavy veganism, and you have the makings of an awesome story. This was my first read by this author but will definitely not be my last. I loved everything about this book and cannot wait to check out more books by this author.
I’m not sure why I kept putting this story off, it was wonderful. The storyline in itself was unique and not your typical romance line. So many life gems were sprinkled throughout as well. I couldn’t put the book down because I became so invested in what was going down with Yuli. Whew she was drama. I throughly appreciated this read and will be looking into more from this author.
Meeting by fate and following the path that has been predestined is not always easy...but it is so worth it! The heart wants what it wants, but sometimes the mind gets in the way. Throw in some drama and people who just can't let go and you will find out, why Airy knows "She could never be me."
This book is like three sides of a love story. It’s beautifully written to the point that even when Major and Airy are in the thick of it, and betrayal is trying to tear them down, their connection is so strong that love over powers all. Major is a MAJOR BAE. I loved everything about him, especially how he loved Airy despite everything that could’ve made him run away. Amazing love story. A must read!!!!
Airy and Major were kismet. No matter what plans or tricks that miserable step sis had up her sleeve. Lance was a dream of a step father even if he did spawn that entitled mess of a princess Yuri. Airy was more solid than a whole lot of quote unquote normal folks but grief can be overwhelming. Glad she had an awesome support system and found her saving grace. Major could definitely get it. It was a deep book with even deeper connections.
Really enjoyed the characters and the creativity of the storyline. Major was definitely Heaven sent. I enjoy stories that shine a light on mental illness because truthfully it is very common and not talked about enough.
When your spirit knows, it just knows! I empathize with Airy! Grief has a way of constricting us. The author did a great job of guiding us through her healing journey and allowing us to experience the highs and lows alongside her. I enjoyed this book.
Whew!! 🙌🏾 read it and be ready to learn some deep lessons and be in your feelings 💖 Lex. C. did not come to disappoint!!! She was not playing with us with this one lol! I loved the growth both characters portrayed 🥰
I've read over 80 books already this year, and this one is the best thus far. I loved every moment, word by word, from beginning to end. Every bit rang true. Nothing felt over done, too angsty, or contrive. Just real life and real love. I really would give 10 stars if I could. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Wow! Queen Lex. C.really poured her heart and soul into this book. The book really touched on grief, the importance of therapy and having a support system. Most importantly unconditional love. Major & Airy came into each others lives during a time when they both needed love in the purest form. She's grieving the lots of her fiancé and her father and he's grieving the loss of his father. In my eyes, they saved each other they day the saved her life. She saved him from drowning in a life he had no business being in and he saved her from drawing in her grief. When she finally meets her guardian angle again she's out with her step sister Yuli and neither her or Major really know what to say to each other. Yuli volunteers to see if he's starring at Airy cause he's interested our because he pitties her. Fast forward 6 months to Airy birthday and Lance(step-dad) takes them on a family trip to the Bahamas and I'm beyond shocked that cause Major is there with Yuli😳 who makes it her business to make the trip about her. Like if spoiled, bitter, miserable, privileged bih was a person, it'd be Yuli 'ol I'm so thirsty and hate my step sister so much that I lied to get a man's attention. Like the disrespectful bile that she spewed out her mouth every chance she got😡, smdh. I swear I wanted to jumped through this damn kindle and choke the bih out myself🙄. She didn't learn from the first choke out tho. Cause even after the truth was revealed She just came up with the oldest trick in the book, lil dummy just didn't get Major never wanted her and stayed around for one reason and that's to be closer to Airy. I knew after they spent her birthday night together Major want just gonna let Airy walk away from him. See Major knew God sent him Airy and Airy felt it in her soul that he was the one for her but after the lies Yuli told them both and the drama Airy started to doubt everything. Airy momma knew Major was the one and made it her business to keep him around. When Airy told Major she was afraid to love him, because she had already loss 2 men she loved and didn't think she could handle that type of loss again😭. I felt that cause I battle with that everyday. I felt Airy's pain on both ends cause I loss the love of my life 9 years ago and my father 5 years ago, so this book hit different for me. No one wants to be reminded of that loss in a hateful way. When Yuli threw that hot ass pie on Airy I saw red, and she deserved that beat down that Airy have her. Yuli talked a lot ish, spewed a lot of hateful, hurtful things but couldn't handle Airy speaking the truth. I swear she had a lot of mental issues that she needed to seek help for cause sis was beyond touched in the head. Despite all the drama, past hurts, loss, etc with the help of family, friends and therapy these two persevered. Major was the definition of the prayer we've all prayed, Lord please if he's for me, show me. Bay-be God showed up for Airy and showed out in a major way and I enjoyed reading about their journey to healing and love💕 Definitely a book worth reading.
Aarika suffered from mental issues and when her boyfriend died, she just wanted answers, but the way she went about it almost cause her her life if it wasn't for her mother and Major. Major knew what it was like to lose a lived one and all he could think about what happened to the girl that he tried to save. Seeing Aarika weeks later, Major was shocked and wanted to shoot his shot, but Aarika step sister got in the way. Spending her birthday in the Bahamas, Aarika and Major got to see that their feelings for each other were strong and when Major broke it off with Aarika step sister, that was their chance. Of course the step sister added her necessary and she was the true meaning of ugly step sister. She tried all she could to break them up, but Major and Aarika bond was to strong. But when Major secret was revealed, Aarika wanted nothing to do with him. This book covered, death, grief, drugs, lies pettiness, forgiveness and healing. The book started with a bang from the beginning and wouldn't stop. I felt every emotion in this book and shredded some tears. We always need that book that will tell you what you need to hear when you least expect it and this was it. Lex C wrote the hell out of this book and I felt every emotion she was going through. Thank you for this book and I hope it helped with your healing!!!
This is my first read by this author and she surely did not disappoint. This book was very powerful in every angle of how a person may read it. Major and Aarika were not just soul mates, but "purpose partners" their connection has been just that strong. I loved how Major loved Aarika with her diagnosed mental illness and he even referenced if she was on the autism spectrum she was still his one. His words and actions signify just how much he was fully invested in Airy.
It was sad that although Airy was diagnosed with a mental illness, it was obvious that Yuli had one. Her actions were over the top for a fully grown woman. I was just glad that her father realized his "baby girl" needed some medical help and a therapist.
This was an exemplary read, if you have not indulge I highly encourage you do. It is quite emotional so be ready to have all of your feelings touched. I do have one question for the author, is Brandon going to get to tell his story? I think his story would be just as inspirational as Major and Aarika.
She Could Never Be Me is a book that I didn’t know that I needed to read. It has drama, deals with losing a love, mental health battles, love and finding balance between it all.
Major is definitely the standard as to what one would want in a man. He’s a protector, loyal, provider, has sex-appeal; he’s just it!!! The patience he had and the love that he poured into Airy was the sweetest. I felt like Airy went through a lot but her maturation was admirable, because she could have really went way left field but she didn’t and I so loved her growth throughout the book. The drama between Airy and Yuli was comical to me. I laughed at Yuli’s outbursts and the fact that she thought that she was the one for Major. Like, just no.
Overall, this book is a whole vibe! I loved the tone and the theme of protecting your peace and energy. I so enjoyed getting to read about Major and his love for Airy! Good work!
I like that this book was a romance but I really appreciated the fact that Lex. C. had Aarika grow and work on herself outside of (and before) her relationship with Major. I also liked that Lex. C. had Major and Aarika’s souls speak to one another and that gave them the security and confidence in knowing they were meant to be together. Also, Major applying pressure but still respecting Aarika’s boundaries and him actually wanting to understand how Aarika’s mental illness affects her and how she lives with it was just *chef’s kiss*
Yuli was public enemy number one for me and as soon as her character was introduced, I didn’t trust her. After the trip to the Bahamas, I kept saying “Yuli needs to get popped in her mouth one more good time”, and I’m happy my good sis Aarika had the opportunity to do it again.
As far as humor, the scene in the hospital between the doctor and Aarika after the Thanksgiving fight had me cracking up lol. And as far as the spice level, I’ll just say I wanted to replace Aarika with myself lol.
I definitely recommend this book, especially if you’re looking for a story about a couple who are destined to be together.
Airy and Major were everything I wanted and more in a love story like theirs
I loved how this story hit so many different issues such as grief, mental illness, suicide, and drug use in the middle of a love story to discuss healing, redemption, reflection. I love how Airy didn't use her mental illness as a crutch to be a victim. Instead she recognized her triggers and worked hard to not succumb to the sunken place as she called it. Major was everything she never truly knew she needed. What enjoyed the most was how they learned to love one another the way that the other needed to be loved yet there were no limitations or stipulations on their love. It was truly an unconditional love that lasts a lifetime. I believe we all desire to have someone like that in our lives as we navigate through the many ups and downs of life.
Major and Aarika, were fated to be together. But first they would have to overcome many obstacles, situations and people to reach their “Sane Place.”
This book will grab you from page one and not let you go until you read the words “The End.” You’ll laugh, get teary-eyed, angry and a plethora of emotions will surface. Especially when you get to know Aarika’s evil stepsister Yuliara. Whew Lord!
I absolutely love Major and Aarika and their journey to forever. And you will too. Grab your copy today!
She Could Never Be Me, is a love story that brings suicide, bipolar depression, grief and mental illness to the forefront. So many people suffer in silence while battling to hold it together. While this isn’t your typical subject matter for a romance novel, I applaud author Lex. C.
She could never be me by Lex C is my first time reading from this author. I decide to take my time to reading this book. It’s well written and it’s phenomenal page. Lex C does a good job.
Airy is a woman who has struggling with her mental health condition. She finds a good therapy for her and who could listen and understand about her situation. Major and Airy have their own similarities and differences background. They have a great connection as friends and lovers. Yuli is a something else but I’m happy that she gets her act together and focus on herself.
I would like to read more books from this author. I enjoyed reading this story.

I feel in love with this book! It was real and raw and just flowed through perfectly. Aarika was such a beautiful soul. It's so easy to judge a person by a title causing you to potentially miss out on knowing someone great. Major was some kind of special in so many ways. I cried real life tears at the end because my heart was so full. Knowing you're stronger together doesn't make you weak, but happier! This was easily my favorite read of the year so far! Highly recommended to all readers.
This is the first book I read from this author and let me tell you that I loved it! Such a good book with great characters that keeps you obsessed with every page since the first one. The ending of this book.. come on! I just didn´t expect it! Can´t wait to read other books from this great writer! Amazing job! a must-read! A fantastic book that has it all! I happily endorse this story to any and all who are looking for a fiction enjoyable read and a completely different experience than anyone could imagine on their own. ¡Great book!
I think I was so ready to read this story; I was not prepared for it to end so quickly. If my stepfather's daughter were this ratcheted, I would have to open a can too. Airy had some medical issues that the story dealt with realistically. Not so cozy step-sister drama was another thing. Yuli was a real witch, and her whole foolish side had me ready to scream. Still, I wouldn't say I liked how Major chose to be with one person to see the other. In the end, it all came out in the rinse cycle.
Major and Airy This was a lot to handle this was a very emotional read that had so many layers I loved Majors determination and love for his family. My heart went out to Airy as she nettle through the darkness of loss and mental health challenges. And as if she didn’t have enough to deal with ,her spoiled immature step-sister Added additional mayhem to a already delicate situation. This is an interesting read and once you get past the darkness you find a beautiful love story.
Wow, this book was so good! Such a journey of healing and growth and love. So much love. Aarika and Major's connection was palbable. And their souls recognized each other from the start. I do not have any personal or peripheral experience with a loved one who is bipolar, but as a reader, I can appreciate that the author humanized Airy, she was not just her illness. I loved the family support on both sides. This was a really good read! Definitely 5 ⭐️ Stars!!!!
Sis wrote the heck out of this book. It started off with a bang and ended with a bang. So glad that Airy gave Major made it through. The Yuli girl needed that beat down to get her mind right..trifling spoilt brat🙄😤. She was a horrid jealous child, but people do change😉. This book was well-written and it taught me about living with bipolar. Thank you for your gift🙏🏽❤️. Much blessings to you🙏🏽🙏🏽. Read it🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Oh honey I just love the way Major loved Airy. The awareness of how important mental health is that this book shined a light on did it for me. It’s okay to not be okay and work through it. Major wasn’t about to let his happiness walk away even though his involvement with Yuli had me worried for a minute. I did want Airy to have one more word with Yuli after the big fight though cause ohhh chile. Lex has done it yet again!
This was a good story with a great premise. The only true complaint I had was the necessity of the color of her skin, it seemed, in every other paragraph. I got it. She "peanut butter complected". That is really the only flaw, along with her "cappuccino eyes".
Her story gave off that Kay Shanee, AshleyNicole, and C. Monet vibe.
**SPOILER**She really touched on something so important- mental illness and suicide. Good story.
Wow! It wasn’t stated and I have no proof but I think Yules gave Major the date rape drug or something since he can’t remember anything. So glad the best woman won. This story was very good and took me through so many emotions from dealing with mental illness, to suicide, to grief, to jealousy, to violence and finally to love. The title is so true and perfect for this beautiful love story.
This was so, so good💞. The story touched on so many issues people face in the world today. Ignoring mental disease is a big issue, especially bipolar diagnosis. We are so quick to make excuses for behaviors that are outside of the norm instead of paying closer attention and seeking help. I loved the ease with which Aarika and Majors relationship grew and how well they related to each other.💖
This was different yet very good. Everyone was on point while the layers were being pulled layer after layer. The only thing though is what exactly happened to Tavi? Couldn’t quite comprehend it.... and the surprise at the end was so Cute and so everything. Yuli was very lucky that it wasn’t karma that disciplined her because baby she really tested everyone sanity... she definitely is the one that needed to be looked after.
Major met Aarika on one of the worst days of her life. In her deep sorrow for the loss of another, Aarika nearly lost herself. Major was deeply moved by the woman at the center of the tragedy he averted, quickly devrloping feelings he could not explain. But the path to true love is often rocky and difficult to navigate, especially when jealous THOTS sew seeds of discord and attempt to take what was never meant for them to have! Five golden stars!!!
