It all began once upon a magic kingdom, when a fearsome dragon stalked the land. The dragon was MEAN, SCARY and EVIL, or so the stories said. One day, two brave children called Freya and Sylas set out to stop him for good. But, when they found the dragon, he wasn't quite what they expected...

Once Upon a Dragon’s Fire is a beautiful book that tells the story of how dragons got their fire. A long, long time ago in a magical land, before fire even existed, there lived a terrible dragon. This dragon had never been seen but stories filled the village.
Tales were told of how terrible and scary the dragon was. Some said he was so evil that he created huge storms making the village bitterly cold. Everyone was afraid of the dragon….except for Freya and Sylas. They loved to read stories to each other about the dragon.
One cold, winter day there was a terrible storm that took away the warmth from the village. Freya and Sylas believed the dragon was to blame. So, they set out to stop him. What follows is a surprising twist to their adventure.
This heart-warming book is filled with gorgeous illustrations in beautiful colors. It’s about bravery, friendship and kindness. We see how the power of storytelling and creating new stories can actually make a difference and change how we see and accept others.
This book is also available on Overdrive as a downloadable e-book.

This book tells the tale of why dragons breathe fire. Freya and Silas are children who live in a village that has stories about dragons who cause all sorts of bad things to occur. The children decided that enough is enough and decide to confront the dragon. When they do they discover that the dragon isn't at all what they thought. They all become good friends, and in the process, the dragon finds it's fire.
Beatrice Blue is a master at crafting folktales that promote friendship and kindness. Her worlds are fantastically whimsical and perfect for children. The illustrations are amazingly beautiful and unique. I have loved all of her books thus far and this one is another added to that list. Definitely recommend!
Beautiful illustrations, imaginative story. Could be a good one for storytime/class reading with school-age kids. Lovely messages about the power of friendship and food for thought about stereotypes and overcoming prejudice with compassion. Has fold-out page that is beautiful. The illustrations really make this book pop. Stunning!
A fantasy folk-tale of how and when dragons starting breathing fire. When a village freezes from a winter storm, two brave children set out to destroy the dragon who is the cause. But upon finding the dragon, Freya and Sylas discover that everything they had read about the dragon was wrong. A story of misunderstanding and friendship prevails in this unique tale of beginnings.
No one has seen a dragon, but everyone knows stories about how they are mean and evil. Sylas and Freya love stories about the dragon, but when the village is hit with a storm that puts them all in danger, they think it must be the dragon's doing and head up the mountain to stop it. When they get there they find out their stories were not as true as they always believed and determine to tell a different story. Just a quick adorable story about the power of rumor and truth.
Two children are told stories of the fierce dragon who causes mischief and destruction. When a dangerous storm threatens their village, the children set off to confront and defeat the dragon who they believe is responsible. The dragon is not what they imagined and so grows a story of friendship and understanding.
The illustrations are lush, complete with multiple fold-out pages that spark the imagination and provide a heart-warming fantasy for dragon fans.
Once Upon a Dragon's Fire is a picture book that has interesting and nice lookiug illustrations that cover the pages. I like the message of finding out the truth for yourself and not just to believe blindly in things. For me personally I would of loved to see more content about the dragon and why he isn't what the village makes him out to be. I found it too short and cut to early than it needed to be.
My daughter loved the fold out bit where the dragon gets long and fiery. It definitely made it into a special reading experience.
A very sweet story about two friends who love reading about Evil™ dragons, only to finally meet one and find out the truth about dragons in the process.
I really love the illustrations, it's perfectly storybook-like! The colors are so soft and sweet. The story is awesome!
This is a beautiful book, both in its illustrations and in its message about not believing everything that you hear/is written and the power of stories. I'm a sucker for a special reveal page...
A beautiful picture book about bravery and friendship, about the power of story and how changing the stories can change how we see and accept others.
Two children live in a cold village. Everyone in their town knows that the evil dragon is the reason for the cold. All the books tell the same story. When a particularly bad storm starts to build, Freya and Sylas set off to find the dragon and save their village. What they find is a surprise and their kindness and bravery might be what really saves their town.
This book has such a beautiful underpinning story of acceptance, but also of rewriting the story of acceptance and friendship. It points to the way so many of our stories and book spread the stories of evil, difference and strangeness. The two children in this book show that through kindness, bravery and being open to new stories, that we can learn the truth about others and become a far more accepting world.
The illustrations are absolutely stunning. From the soft swirls of greys and blues on the opening spreads to the vibrant rich yellows and greens of the last pages, this book is utterly captivating.
While my copy is a electronic galley, from the spreads, it seems like there will be a fold out page to truly highlight the dragon's amazing transformation. I can't wait to see this in its hardcover glory.
Anyone who loves story and understands its power will delight in this book, which is perfect for talking to children about friendship, kindness, bravery and, of course, dragons.
The publishers provided an advanced readers copy of this book for reviewing purposes. All opinions are my own.
Two friends who love dragons and know every tale about them decide to seek out the beasts that is rumored to live in the mountains.
This is the story of how dragons learned to breathe fire, and it's adorable and I love it. Yes, sure, you could argue that there are tons of books out there that paint dragons as misunderstood creatures that only need some nice talking to to reveal that they're really looking for friends, but I love them all and I still want more. There can never be enough.
The illustrations are gorgeous and I adore the style of the illustrator and will look up what else they've done.
Full recommendations. The arc was provided by the publisher.
I really enjoyed this! I have a little friend who would really appreciate the fact that this is a story where the dragon is the good guy! It is true that the vilification of dragons is a very western thing (coming down from European folk-tales), and that in other cultures dragons can be creatures of good luck or wisdom. So yes, it was nice seeing a different take on dragons (in a still mildly western setting... though it is also a bit ambiguous).
Dragon’s are terrifying right? They breathe fire, have terribly sharp teeth and will happily eat a kitten for breakfast. Well at least that’s what most people think.
This is the story about the villagers who lived in a kingdom that was terrorised by a fierce dragon. A dragon that had never been seen but you didn’t need to have seen it because the stories were enough. The dragon was like most dragons are; mean, scary, evil and terrified everyone. When an icy chill descends on the kingdom there can only be explanation…the dragon.
Two brave young children head off to find the dragon and put an end to his reign of terror, but when they find the dragon he’s not anything like what the stories say…
Once Upon A Dragon’s Fire is a lovely read that will warm your heart as much as the fire finally did for the dragon when it ignited inside of him. There is so much to love about this book - children facing fears, the strength and power of love, friendship and stories. As the two young children know, when you are feeling sad or lonely, getting lost in a good book might be the answer. It turns out that this is true for dragon’s too.
The book is filled with messages and meaning. Friendship, love, judging by appearances and the joy that can be found in reading books all feature within the narrative. The fear of the dragon is built around misconceptions and inaccurate perceptions and shows how easily others can be influenced. Ultimately, this is a book about not judging others based on appearances or hearsay - valuable lessons for readers of any age. The ending is powerful and people’s views of the dragon completely change as the dragon is not the cause of the town’s problems, he is actually the solution.
The illustrations are delicious. Beatrice Blue is a fabulously talented author and illustrator and readers will be captivated by her enchanted artwork. There is a wonderful change in the colours as the narrative progresses - darker and cooler colours that capture the mood of the villagers and the weather are replaced by softer and warmer tones as warmth, love and dragon’s fire fill the later pages.
A book that children will be going back to read time and time again.

This one was purely indulgent for me. After reading The Tea Dragon Society last week I was really in the mood for another cute picture book featuring a dragon. This is exactly what I got. Once Upon a Dragon's Fire is an adorable story of friendship and of discovering someone for yourself. It is the story of how dragons got their magical gift and are able to breathe fire. The illustrations are beautiful and colourful. They are so full of detail that I could have spent a good long time just looking at them and imagining the stories of the people that lived in village. The story itself is very short and aimed at younger children. It would make a good bed time story. It left me feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. I would have loved this book as a kid and I hope I remember it long enough to get a copy for my future kids.
I was sent a copy of Once Upon a Dragon's Fire for free in exchange for an honest review.
A whole town is bigoted against their local dragon, even though they've never seen the cat-snacking (allegedly), roof-shattering (according to some), warmth-stealing monster. All, that is, until two children demand of themselves they go and find out the truth. It's a bit cheesy to say this leaves the reader warm-hearted, for that is the plot itself, more or less – but it is a lovely and positive read, and I certainly appreciated the fold-out, ultra-widescreen, four pages wide splash page, especially with that punchline in the text (how simple, how obvious, how did I not think of it first?!). I don't think I'm completely on board with the artwork, mind – generally the images are fine, but some are a little too fussy and busy, and the golden "here be dramatic dialogue " stars punctuating the scenes between the children just didn't fit the rest of the style. So marks off for that, but this is still a strong four.

With fairy tale lush illustrations and a gentle, warmhearted text, this lovely picture book tells the story of two children, Freya, and Sylas, who have become dragon experts. Everyone in their village accused dragons of all sorts of terrible things including bringing on the bitterly cold weather. Freya and Sylas are not afraid of dragons and they have had it with the cold weather so they set off to find the truth. What they find is a scared, cold and lonely dragon who is definitely not evil. When the children tell a new story about the dragon, the dragon is finally able to breath fire and warm and protect the village. A lovely picture book fantasy with a feel-good message about empathy and avoiding stereotypes and rumors.
Bukunya ngajarin tentang friendship and kindness. Tapi ilustrasinya bener bener eye pleasing, tiap buka page diliat pelan pelan tiap brush dan detailnya, cantiikk banget. My heart is full by seeing the illustrations😭❤
