This is a story that hits close to home because I was in a relationship similar to Taylor’s. I dated a narcissist who relied on the fact that his personal issues stemmed from the way he grew up and that was the reason he acted out. As I read the book I felt like I was reading about my ex because everything was eerily similar. He said those exact same words to me and it was a very calming feeling to know that I am not alone. Her feelings were my feelings and even though I knew I went through it in real life and I continuously went back to my ex before finally leaving 6+ months ago, I kept getting mad at Taylor for not leaving him sooner and I know that’s how my family and friends felt every time they told me to leave him.
If you are someone who is in a toxic relationship or was and are still learning how to heal, this book will definitely have some triggers because I know it did for me. The lying, manipulation, mental abuse, physical abuse, the gaslighting, it was overwhelming at times because it just brought back a flood of memories for me. The scene where she finds out about all the girls he was messaging and and video calling with and about the threesome with the mom and her 15 year old daughter?! I absolutely lost it and started bawling crying because I remember going through my ex’s phone one night while he was sleeping and found a video of him having a threesome with a girl and one of his friends (like I said, TRIGGERED)!!!!!
But it’s a definite must read and for sure an eye opener. We are not meant to stay forever in that kind of relationship and even though the narcissist wants to isolate us and make us feel alone and that we have no one to turn to, this book made me realize we are anything but alone.
I read this book in less than 1 day and the only reason I gave this 3 stars is because I am not a baseball fan so any and all references made to that I had 0 interest in and pretty much skimmed those lines. Also the storyline didn’t flow properly in my opinion. The writing was kind of choppy in the sense that there were a few times in the book where I find myself rereading because the scene before it seemed like her and Skyler were together sitting right next to each other and then the next sentence she’s writing that she’s texting him so that was a bit confusing.

Better than I expected. I stumbled on Taylor’s Tik Tok and, on a whim, decided to purchase her book. I was definitely not disappointed.
While Taylor is a new writer and there are some rough bits, I’m impressed with her storytelling and ability to immerse the reader in her relationship. I, too, have experienced a tumultuous, abusive and cheating relationship. I feel that Taylor did a great job describing how this kind of love is like an addiction or even a quest to be the end-all-be-all that saves him. I’ll be looking forward to Taylor’s future work.
I was gifted this book because it’s a “baseball” book. It’s not. It is a young woman’s journey through hell with a Narcissistic jerk.
I struggled to read it because It was so close to home. I finally forced myself to sit down and finish it. At a certain point I thought “I thought I was the only one that went through anything like that”. Grateful to hear I wasn’t and also sad anyone else had to experience these situations.
Although It was incredibly sad at parts, there was a lot of hopefulness.
We all have a story to tell. I’m grateful that Taylor Higgins shared hers.
As an avid reader, once in a while you find a genuine newbie who has such extraordinary potential that it renders you speechless. This would be Taylor.
The book itself is emotionally distraught perfection. Yes the book will expose the nasty world of baseball but it’s more of a healing novel that makes you look at young love. Young love that we all have experienced that leaves you raw, shredded and helpless. This book made me reflect on my own life and forces me to look at myself and how love is portrayed to my own children.
Read this book -not to read a romance novel. Read this book because you want to read an exceptional book that you will cry, scream and ultimately champion and love by the end. This book isn’t about HEA of a fictional story. It’s real. It’s about real life.
What can I say about this book, wow! My heart ached the entire time. No one will ever understand loving and staying with an abusive partner, and how hard it is to leave. You see the person you want them to be by their offers of small precious moments that are just enough for you to crave more. You cry silently alone, asking yourself why?! But as Taylor says, “time will take you where you need to be when you are ready..” she wrote her story well and I look forward to what else she writes.
4/10 - I would recommend this book but I am probably only recommending it because I can relate to it thanks to my dysfunctional relationship with Trevor Walch. The author shares her abusive relationship with a minor league baseball player … I am having awful flashbacks … however, I find her to be both honest and brave and, again, I can relate to her story.
I thought this was a very eye opening book about how easily there is abuse in relationships, especially when you are young. I was 19 and in an abusive relationship. I thought it was very brave of Taylor to be completely open and vulnerable about what she went through and I hope her book helps women get out of abusive relationships or to see red flags sooner and get out sooner.
Between the stitching is a book about Taylor's relationship with a minor league baseball player. It will break your heart and make you cry. For anyone who ever was or is in an abusive relationship ship needs to read this book.
Very raw and real. If you’ve ever had someone close survive a controlling or toxic relationship this book really puts a spotlight on seeing red flags and the guilt associated with “trying to make it work”.
This was extremely well-written book. I feel for Taylor and the many women who are verbally, emotionally and physically abused. I guess I am lucky to not understand why it takes women so long to leave these men, but ultimately glad they take back their lives.
I read this book because the man this was written about was someone I went to HS with…. Minor league baseball player. Talk about woman scorned! This was a true story with names changed, except hers. Wow, what he put her through.
Such a great book. It felt so raw, like the pain was seeping off the page. I loved the book, but felt horrible for Taylor. Such an honest portrayal and so very accurate.
Book club pick 3.5 rounded up I’m glad I read this- it was a book I never would have picked. An honest but ugly and heartbreaking viewpoint of young love and baseball. There were times I couldn’t put this book down and times I wanted to throw the book against the wall.
Why does this book not have more reviews?? And how do not many people know about it!!? This book is breathtaking, and so needed for people who have been in relationships with toxic sick people! Wow Taylor Higgins helped me so much from this book. I am so thankful to know someone else has gone through similar things to me, and got through it. I hate this happened to her, but the way she is using it to help others is so inspiring!! Truly amazing. The word I would describe these people in the book is with one word. Narcissists. They are the worst thing to stumble upon. So even if it hasn’t happened to you, read this to know the signs PLEASE!!
4.5 ⭐️ I was skeptical at first but it turns out this book is not only about baseball or Taylor being considered a WAG - it was her personal journey through absolute hell! She demonstrates how strong she is by sharing part of her life in this book. There is always light at the end of the tunnel!
