Jason Thomas had always been obsessed with the ghost stories he'd watched on television from the time he was a kid. He'd always dreamed of visiting those haunted places, and playing amateur ghost hunters with his best friend Wade. As they grew older, Jason's fascination with ghosts grew as well, and he'd drag Wade along to different haunted houses or hotels, always hoping to see an actual ghost. Wade Rivers loved spending time with Jason, even if it meant he'd have to endure another creepy, supposedly haunted location. Friends since they were kids, and always inseparable, Wade's feelings for Jason deepened from friendship into something more. Unfortunately, so did his fear of the places Jason wanted to explore. The chance to spend a weekend alone in a famous haunted house was too much for Jason to resist, and almost too much for Wade to endure. He knew going to the deserted house was everything Jason had ever dreamed of, so Wade tried to put his fears aside. But when paranormal things start to happen, admitting to Jason how he feels suddenly isn't the scariest thing Wade will encounter.
Jason and Wade have spent much of their lives hunting ghosts. Or, trying to at least. Ok, they have mostly only found evidence of how best to get thrown out of supposed ghost haunting sites; and to be honest, Wade would much prefer to keep it that way. After all, ghosts are more Jason’s obsession. Wade just wants to hang out with his best friend…and unrequited love of his life. Which is how he gets talked into once again following Jason to yet another creepy haunted house. Except this one might be more than either of them can handle.
Gods but these kinds of books are the hardest to review. There is so much going for this book, but so many little things are holding it back.
Up to a certain point I really liked how the author had written the ghostly aspects of this story. The way things kept going wrong all over the house had a truly spooky vibe. And I think the author did a great job describing the various supernatural events in a vivid and compelling manner. Sadly the moment the ghosts could speak they lost all sense of menace. The old-timey speak was not very convincing and made them lose a lot of that vividness that had made me like them so much.
The chemistry between Jason and Wade also was a lot better in the beginning. But again, once given a “voice,” the feelings between them lost a lot of credibility. Had the author focused on creating a more believable transition from friends to lovers for Jason and Wade I think I would have liked the story a bit more. It seemed so abrupt and forced, when the turn happened. It was like the harder they tried to show how in love they were, the less I believed it.
There were also aspects to the writing in general that were incredibly frustrating. The constant repetition of the same backstory or facts we were given only a scene ago–which mostly had no impact on the story so didn’t need the constant callbacks–was one of the things that dragged down the pacing of this story.
We really didn’t need to be told in four separate scenes that they watched Ripley’s Believe It or Not when they were growing up. It was in no way necessary to the plot, except as a brief mention of where Jason and Wade got their start in this ghost business. If it had tied back into the plot in some way, I wouldn’t have minded, but other than backstory it was meaningless.
I also can’t help but feel the last two chapters of this book really shouldn’t have been there. The second to last chapter basically involved the character recapping the entire story…that we just read, and the Epilogue read pretty much like Chapter One of the next book in the series, which made it feel tacked on.
Honestly I came away from this book feeling that it was a good story dragged down by some rather poor editorial choices. They slowed the pace when it needed to be at its tightest, and overfed the readers on mundane facts instead of giving us more of what was important. The ghosts and the romance, the two key things I needed to be done well in this kind of story, both floundered around the middle and fell apart near the end. The ghost became pale imitations of their former selves, and the romance became a bland and paint-by-numbers rehash of so many romances before it. I can’t say I didn’t like this story, because it did have so much going for it…but I was left unsatisfied with the way it wrapped things up.

I have watched countless paranormal TV shows and read many books on this branch of paranormal activity and with this book, I was just looking for a light read set around a haunted house with two friends figuring themselves out. I went in with reasonable expectations, but this book didn’t even live up to the basics I was looking for.
Wade and Jason have been friends for years. We aren’t shown any of their friendship and are told all of the things, like how Wade has been in love with Jason for so long. There was no background built for their friendship, the individual character development was non-existent, and there was zero chemistry presented between the characters. The characters were bland and flat and there was no intrigue offered for me to want to become invested in either of these guys.
A good portion of the story was then the guys helping the spirits move on and that storyline was equally as bland. The book ends with “to be continued,” as the guys move to hunting ghosts full time with the addition of Jimbo, who was conveniently placed into the book and was as dull as the rest of the cast. This book lacked an intriguing ghost story or chemistry between the characters and was too amateur for my tastes.
I must admit that I am easily spooked, so some parts of this book freaked me out a bit, especially in the first part, where not all the facts are known… but in the end I coped really well and enjoyed Wade and Jason’s story a lot. The book has just the right balance of spooky and romance, and I am so glad to know that Jason and Wade will continue their paranormal investigations! I feel just like Wade does in the book: I started freaked out and now I want more adventure!
jason and wade's friendship felt toxic to me. i didnt feel their chemistry and their romance was meh. there was many repetitive sentences and the writing wasnt really to my liking too.
kinda disappointed we dont get a jason pov.
but i love the haunting and ghost mysteries in here.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I loved this author’s take on a ghost hunting story. It was fun and sweet yet still had suspenseful and scary parts while telling some historical facts. Even better, while it has an HFN ending it also is to be continued. I look forward to following these guys on their journeys. www.reviewsforthosewholoveagoodbook.w...
So many props to BL Maxwell as this story is both creepy and intriguing! Poor Wade, the things you do for love, and I can’t wait for them to be wild monkeys either. I don’t know if Jason and Wade are either very brave or very daring. Maybe both? It makes me wonder why the ghosts affect Wade and Jason so differently. Part of me thinks it has something to do with Wade and his accident at the beginning. I liked how both Wade and Jason interacted with the ghosts. It added a spooky but interesting perspective. I must admit I did feel a bit sorry for the ghosts and am in awe of what Jason and Wade can do.
I really enjoyed this book as it kept me turning the pages to see what would happen next, and I’m excited about who else will join the team. An excellent ghost story and looking forward to the next one.
This was definitely a suspenseful story !! I loved Jason and Wade’s friendship and how it evolved into something beautiful. The history and details this Author put into this story is amazing especially how the vineyard’s land was cursed and how it all started. I loved it and can’t wait to read the next installment!!
Love it! It's just the right kind of spooky to fill up my ghost story love, with just the right amount of romance. I so hope this gets more than just the two books that are out. I'd happily read many of Jason and Wade's ghostly adventures. And I'm dying to know what happened between Jimbo and Dean
Excellent book! With a good 'paranormal investigation' base to the story this swiftly became a creepy and under your skin kind of discomfort as events went on. However it isn't relentless horror, more of a thriller with elements of discovering a mystery as well as discoveries about the characters themselves. It was creepy but tantalizing and keeps you going until the end!
Everything doesn't start off with the idea of ghosts being real as a given. This takes place in our world and this is just two best friends doing what (one of them) loves, investigating 'haunted' locations. The thing is, when most people imagine seeing ghost they think see-through visage, repeating actions, perhaps a voice. Going in to find a violent poltergeist is neither expected nor desired. When things quickly go poltergeist bad in this book it makes it threatening to stay while at the same time more urgent because things are so obviously real. That desire to leave mixed with the need to stay and watch makes for the tense atmosphere that stayed on through the story.
Wade and Jason were the two characters that the book followed. These were an enjoyable pair for their friendship and easy knowledge of each other made it easy to connect with them. Equally, when it came to expressing romantic feelings it didn't feel rushed or instant. A lifetime of connection was there for those two and romance was a possibility all along. The relationship progressed naturally and it was beautiful to see the love really build in the tense situation. Add in the twists about themselves that are discovered in the depths of that house and it really made for a great story!
A great ghost story with an excellent romance, this book was one that I couldn't put down! Looking forward to future stories!
Once upon a time, I was a fan of shows like BtVS, Supernatural and Freaky Links and I've always been drawn to mysteries involving ghosts and spirits, and even if I'm a bit of a wuss, I still enjoy this kind of books.
Jason and Wade were very likable, and even if they were pretty oblivious to what the other felt, once Jason finally got the courage to tell Wade about his feelings, it was a very smooth and natural progression from best friends to lovers, after all, it was something that had been simmering in the background for years. They had great chemistry and were really hot together.
Jimbo was a very fun addition to the story, he helped balance things out and supported the guys when they decided to help Louise's ghost with her husband.
This is my first book by BL Maxwell and I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into, and I was pleasantly surprised by what I found. Ghost Hunted was compelling and intriguing and captured my interest from the start. I will admit that I was slightly creeped out with some of the things happening at the house, which is why I decided to read this during the day. LOL Still, it's a really good read, and I'm already looking forward to reading more in this 'verse. Very recommendable!

If you love the ghost hunting shows, you’ll love this story. The author did an amazing job of building the suspense and making you feel things that go bump in the night. The further you read, the more goose bumps you get.
Jason and Wade have always been best friends. And no matter how much Wade wishes for more, he’s content to leave it at that if it means he get to keep Jason in his life. Even putting up with Jason’s obsession with all things ghost and hunting them. Even if it scares the heck out of him. It was fun watching the guys as they both realize that they wanted more from each other.
This is a fairly new author, so I did find a few minor things, that are growing pain type things. Things that will get better, the more stories they write. Not real big things. That said, they have amazing potential. The plot was very will done. You kept turning the pages to see what was going to happen to the guys next. So, I am looking forward to the next book by this author, seeing where they take the guys in the next ghost story.
Trying to prove that ghosts really exist, they find out much more... Jason Thomas and Wade Rivers have been best friends forever. Now in their twenties, they still spend most of their time together doing their favourite thing: chasing ghosts. At least, that's Jason's passion. Wade follows him because Jason is his passion. Jason's last scheme takes them to the Vineyard House, and allegedly haunted home where Wade discovers that ghosts are real and dangerous, and that they are not the only one of Jason's passions… Told from Wade's point of view, this story is sweet, funny and entertaining. It takes place over a weekend that changes the lives of the main characters forever. I enjoyed the paranormal side of the story, and there were some really scary parts, and even some funny ones (Wade's mother is just hilarious). The romance is a very sweet friends to lovers one. Very cute I received an ARC copy in exchange for a honest review
I like a good ghost story, so was interested to see how this one would turn out. It's in turn a story of unrequited love, plus a ghost hunt which proves to be both a tale of mystery and a suspense.
I liked both MCs, Jason is like an excitable puppy, whereas Wade balances him out in that he's in turn a little cynical , but also afraid of what they might find during their ghost hunt. In fact the only reason he humours Jason, is so that he can spend time with with his friend and crush.
They, in fact get much more than they bargained for when they spend a weekend in a rumoured haunted house. I really enjoyed the story and mystery, but more than that I liked the way in which the author wrote so that as Wade and Jason explored the house, they simultaneously explored their feelings for one another.
A good start to what I assume is going to be a series, as it ends in a HFN, rather than a HEA. It's certainly worth a read, especially if you like stories of the paranormal. Recommended.
Now this book pushed a lot of pleasure buttons for me. For one, I grew up on ghost stories so the idea of two buddies bonding over a mutual interest in the paranormal as reported in television programs like 'That's Incredible' and 'Ripley's Believe It or Not', is just plain wonderful. I enjoyed both shows when they aired. Then there's the unrequited love of Wade Rivers who, now that he's older, is just going along for the ride with Jason Thomas's ghost-hunting obsession. The haunted location visits give Wade an opportunity to spend alone time with Jason, who appears to overlook Wade's interest. But it takes a really big scare at an actual haunted house to make Jason confess that he is romantically interested in Wade, too! But there's little time to celebrate that revelation because the ghosts are real and capable of class 5 corporeal manifestations including telekinesis and possession! Competently narrated by Allen Jeffries, BL Maxwell's 'Ghost Hunted' is a shiver-inducing story with a warm, loving center. I'm looking forward to more love between the main characters and more genuine scares from the haunts in this delightful series.
A haunted house and a friends to lovers romance come together in Ghost Hunted for an entertaining story. Jason and Wade get more than they bargained for when they spend the weekend in a haunted house - in more ways than one. With lots of thumps and bangs, a few flying objects, and some spirits in need of help, we also get some romance between longtime friends, Jason and Wade. I can't say that the ghost story is scary, but it's certainly entertaining. The story is fast-paced and an easy read with the focus moving seamlessly back and forth between romance and ghosts, sometimes both at the same time. I didn't understand the purpose of the rather lengthy epilogue other than to set up for another book. It could easily have ended right before that and given us an open-ended, happy for now conclusion. That's just my opinion, and other than that, I did enjoy the read.
Jason and Wade are best friends and have been ghost hunting together. Jason is more into it that Wade. They get permission to investigate the Vineyard House to see if they can document a ghost.
This ghost story was really good and I was really into it. Author did a good job developing the ghost story That really sucked me in.
During the investigation Jason reveals his feelings for Wade which Wade is shocked to hear as he has been in love with Jason for years.
I enjoyed the story. I had a little hard time with the love they had for each other. I just didn’t feel their feels for each other.
Jason’s ghost hunting adventures had gotten him and Wade in trouble over the years. Banned from some places forever, thrown in jail. Jason lives for ghost hunting. Wade hates it. The only reason he goes on these hunting expeditions is for a chance to spend alone time with Jason. He has loved his best friend for a long time.
They go to a supposedly haunted mansion and Wade is as scared as Jason is excited. What they find passes Jason's expectations. He thinks he will finally get his proof that ghosts exist.
The ghosts almost take second place to their discovery of their feelings for each other. They use their time exploring those feelings and ways to help the ghosts.
This was an interesting take on ghost stories. The atmosphere was spooky enough to be enjoyable, but I never really connected to them together. Since it is to be continued maybe this book just sets the stage for their future relationship.

If you enjoy shows like Ghost Hunters you will probably enjoy this story. It starts with two friends who are off to explore a house that has been haunted forever. The story is in first person told in Wade's point of view. He isn't really all into the hunting, but he has loved his friend Jason forever and Jason is fascinated with the idea of finding a spirit. They will be spending the night in a haunted house.
The story is the journey of these two as they explore the house and find out what they really mean to each other. It's a good book and worth the read. The way it progresses with the spirits is a great part of the book.
I hate to say it but I wasn't to crazy about this book. The relationship between the two characters seemed rushed all of a sudden. At least to me. The storyline itself was good. Ghost hunting. I'm always up for paranormal. I think maybe, though, this book isn't for me. But I've seen a lot of people like it and I hope you all give it a chance and read it. :)
My first MM horror story, and I loved every single second of it. I usually read MM for the romance and hotness, but this story kept me on the edge of my seat with what will happen next. And bonus points for this being an actual place i can look up and see what it looks like, it helps with the visuals.......I so want this to be a series
I'm not sure if it was intentional or not but, the narrator, Allen Jeffries, used voices and intonation that made the characters seem a little ridiculous and juvenile. While his narration skills were good I don't think his voices were a good choice for this story. The story itself made me a little crazy with the -we won't - let's do it - I won't hurt you - oh, sorry, I had to hurt you - let's leave - let's do this etc. I might try reading the text version of book 2 and see if that works better.
This book was creepy in such a good way. Ghost hunting in a creepy old hotel are what Wade and Jason are going to do. They were so cute together watching and protecting each other from the crazy ass ghost in the house., with lots of scares along the way.
Yet again, I am gifted a book that I have not read the blurb to. What a wonderful unexpected read. I have to add that I rarely, if ever, read an authors blurb. I feel that they often reveal too much of the book for my liking.
Wade and Jason, friends who have loved each other for years, finally act on it. Even though I wouldn't say I like horror films and ghosts, I adored these books, and they don't make me jump, which is always a bonus. Also, I love the dynamics between the main characters.
The narration was OK, but I did wince at some of the characters performed by Allen Jefferies, especially the female voices. I did increase the speed, but this is normal for me.

I received this audiobook for free from the author at my request. My review is my opinion and an honest review - nor did the author influence my opinion.
The cast of Supernatural should meet Wade and Jason because they'll get an adventure of a lifetime. Ghost Hunted has one of my favorite tropes which is best friends to lovers and if you throw in haunted houses, deadly spirits, and hijinks, then this makes Ghost Hunted a spirited read. BL Maxwell has a wonderful writing style and the ghostly side of her definitely made an appearance. The basement scene was chilling and scary with an unexpected spirit take-over that ended better than I though it would. A nice ghostly story just in time for the fall so you should definitely read this
On a side note, I had to re-read the entire Valley Ghosts series after I finished her newest release so I'm still in ghostly mood. Guess who makes a surprise appearance in the Valley Ghosts series?? One of my favorite couples from BL Maxwell's other books! You can't go wrong with reading the Valley Ghosts series.
I really enjoyed this book by an author who is new to me. Wade and Jason were likeable characters, and I felt both Wade's dread and Jason's excitement about spending the weekend in an abandoned haunted house. I was sucked into the story as soon as the activity in the house/hotel began. After the first few chapters, I was jumping at sounds around me. Eventually, the early stages of a romance growing between the longtime friends took over a bigger part of the story, though the scares were not by any means over. The sudden addition of Jimbo near the end was a little odd but interesting. I'm sure we'll learn more about him in the future, since this appears to be the start of a fun and creepy series. I'm pretty excited about that, since my other favorite genre (besides romance) is horror. This was a great introduction to Wade and Jason, and I can't wait to see them again.
