When your father wants to kill you, life is frightening and tentative…
“A cold shadow falls over my face. I open my eyes to see a vulture circling above me. Using my hand, I shade my eyes and see that another has joined it; both gliding on the warm air current as though conserving their strength for the kill that lies ahead… I believe that I am that kill…”
Dr. Sonia Amon, battlefield surgeon, retired Army Major, and CIA operative is on leave from Walter Reed Army hospital. Married now to former CIA handler Jeff Hansen, she remains obsessed by the possibility her father Emir Faisal Muhammed is alive and not dead as the CIA presumes. To control her destiny she is determined to return to Syria to search for the Emir and her cruel stepsister Ester and end to her fears forever. A recurring illness takes her to Walter Reed where she learns of an unexpected, unplanned pregnancy. Sonia ignores the protests of her physicians and Jeff and with the help of the Agency, obtains Canadian passports and returns to Syria to search for her father and step-siblings. She leaves her gentle, long-suffering mother Melody, and beloved dog Tessa behind in the United States under the surveillance and protection of the CIA.
Hatred, fear, death, and disaster await Sonia in Syria
Syria, is a dangerous place for Sonia even though she speaks the language, knows the culture, and recognizes some of her enemies. They know I’m here. She feels the eyes and ears of others on her back. She senses their presence. Her enemies watch her day and night.

“Before I wrote fiction, I was an academic writer who published research, theoretical works, text books and just about anything a nurse or college professor needed to publish to survive. The differences in academic writing and writing fiction are dramatic. Writing what I know propels me to pull from my clinical experiences, some good, some not and use popular fiction as a means to teach and advocate for others. My books have three purposes, to engage the reader, to entertain them and to educate about healthcare and perhaps, the darker side of hospital life.
I am a nurse and hold graduate and doctoral degrees from Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Virginia. I have always been a reader and a writer and I love it. I am a member of the Virginia Writers Club, The Shenandoah Valley Writers and Sisters in Crime.

Fool Proof, the third book in the Dr. Sonia Amon series, is a gripping thriller that cuts dangerously close to home and at the same time, as far as the Middle East.
Sonia suffers both mental anguish and physical pain caused by no other than her own father, who has become radicalized. His vendetta against Sonia tears the family apart, but at this point it’s unclear to her if he is still alive—or else, perhaps his followers and her half-siblings are the ones to continue this relentless pursuit that puts her life, and the life of her mother, Melody, at risk. Sonia flies to Syria in search of the truth.
To me, the image of the vulture, depicted in both the writing and on the cover, creates a sensual touch that brings the threat to life and highlights the vulnerability of the main character. On top of all the dangers she faces, she also finds out that she’s pregnant, so it is with double the trouble that I found myself caring for her. The story is written from her point of view, so every twist and turn is intimately described, sometimes even lyrically, from the very first line: “I plunge my fingers into the sand with sensual pleasure, withdrawing them slowly as I watch them cascade downward. The sun is warm on my face and for the first time in decades, I feel safe.”
Fool Proof, by Judith Lucci, is an intriguing venture into the life of Dr. Sonia Amon, the estranged daughter of a Syrian Emir. This installment is book three of a six-book series. While it is not necessary to have read the first two novels to enjoy this story, I believe I will be forced to, simply because Dr. Amon is such a fascinating character. I enjoyed the interplay between the main protagonist and her CIA-employed husband. The plotting is tight, the writing crisp with a pace that keeps you turning pages until the very end. Do not start this book at bedtime, unless you want to stay up all night reading. Recently, it has been difficult to find books that pull me in as quickly as this one did. Hats off to the author.
I highly recommend Fool Proof and the author, Judith Lucci, to anyone who enjoys action and suspense stories. Particularly ones that are as well written as this book. I for one will be reading more of her novels.
All I can say is WOW! This is the best book of the series (which has been a very good series). I have already picked up the last 2 books of the series because this was so good. There are moments when you feel like you were kicked in the gut by something you didn't see coming. She has a great writing style with many twists and turns and things you think you know what is going to happen and then BAM something different happens. I rank this in my top books of 2021.
The nailbiting drama in this book is off the charts! Sonia makes a decision that may just change her whole life (no spoilers from me lol). Sonia and Jeff are such an amazing couple, and the love they share will give you all the feels. Don't start this book if you're tired and heading off to bed. You'll lose sleep because you won't be able to put it down. I am not ashamed to admit I had to grab the box of tissues while reading this one. Some laughs, some tears, and one heck of a roller coaster ride of all the other emotions. You'll be snarling, and talking out loud while reading this book hahahahhaa. This book was riveting from start to finish. I absolutely love this series of books, and this is my favourite..even though I did some ugly crying. What a fantastic story!
"...do you think uncertainties gives us a better life?" Quote from Fool Proof by Judith Lucci. Wow!!! What a question to ask? I am still pondering it.
This book will pull you in from the beginning. You will not want to put it down, not even to sleep. Intriguing from beginning to end.
Sonia has been thinking of her biological family. She has made a decision and needs to follow through on it. It will be problematic since it could result in her death instead. She returns to her birthplace and attempts to carry out her plan.
Have to read the story to find out. I DO NOT WANT TO SPOIL YOUR ENJOYMENT!!!!!
I love how she finally resolves her plan. In her way too!!
Even though I recognize Sonia and Grayson, I believe this is my first book in this series. Wonderful, can't wait to read more. I definitely will have to find some time and get caught up.
It is interesting to me how women and children are still treated as not worthy. Even in our own society today. I will not get started on Veterans are treated!!
As I said before totally intriguing book, definitely hard to put down, and still finding it resonating with me.
Can be read as a standalone. Enough background in book so not lost. Hint just read a bit farther and it will get explained.
This is my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC book.
Newly married and expecting her first child, Dr. Sonia Amon is looking toward the future; however, she remains haunted by the past. Uncertain if her terrorist father is still alive, she formulates a bold plan to return to Syria and discover the truth. This third book in the series continues the story of a woman whose strength and courage are on display as she takes on the challenge of protecting her family from the evil forces of the terrorist movement. The novel is fast-paced and frightening, with known and unknown dangers. Before the last page is turned, Sonia will experience a perilous journey and her life and the lives of those she loves will be changed forever. Judith Lucci writes compelling stories with passionate and courageous characters as well as diabolical and demonic villains, and her knowledge of the reality of the war on terror is showcased in each novel. She effectively takes the reader into the world that spawned men like Faisal Muhammed. I love this series, highly recommend it and eagerly await the next book. Of note, I received an ARC from the author, it this review is my honest opinion of this thrilling book.
This is the third book in the Dr. Sonia Amon series. First in the series I have read. I have read several other books in other series. Thought I would give this series a try.
Sonia is now semi-retired from her medical practice as a result of the injuries and the resulting PTSD caused by her capture and torture at the hands of her father. Her father became radicalized and has a vendetta against Sonia and his ex-wife, Melody. He has turned his other children (half-brother and half-sister) against Sonia.
Dr. Sonia Amon is looking toward the future. Uncertain if her terrorist father is still alive, she formulates a bold plan to return to Syria and discover the truth. I like how her husband is behind her convictions.
I received an advanced copy from the author. I am not required to leave a positive review. Give this series a chance and read it.
I love this series! Sonia and Jeff are now married and both semi-retired. Sonia just cannot get over the fact that her father, the Emir, is presumed dead but there's no actual proof. She decides she must go back to Syria to find out. In having the pre-trip physical, it's discovered she is pregnant. Jeff is ecstatic. The trip is off right? But no.
Since Jeff can't talk her out of it, he goes with her. When she finally realizes the trip was a bad idea, she ends up in a hospital on bed rest. So now she can't leave as planned.
This is a rollercoaster ride with several twists. Totally unexpected. Is the Emir alive? Does Sonia have half-siblings out to get her? Is it just her PTSD getting the better of her? Who does she trust? Can't wait for the next book!
I received an ARC from the author and this is my voluntary review.
Sonia and Jeff are married ! Sonia still doesn't know if her father is dead or alive. Even though she finds out she's pregnant, she still goes to Syria. She starts having problems and ends up having her baby in Syria Will they get home safely? Melody moves in with Jeff, Sonia and the baby. The unthinkable happens, but I'm not telling you. You need to read this emotional roller coaster that is nonstop, full of action, danger and suspense, twists and turns, with fingernail chewing, nerve-wracking moments. There are shocks and I shed tears more than once. I loved the characters and loved to hate some of them. Judith Lucci writes books that are exciting, edge of your seat thrillers that are unputdownable. I highly recommend this series. I'm hooked and can't wait to read the next book, book 4, Tamper Proof.
This is the third book in the Dr. Sonia Amon series. In the second book Sonia was captured and tortured by her father, Emir Faisal Muhammed, the head of a terrorist group in Syria. She is uncertain he is dead and she feels she must find out. How can she feel safe without knowing for sure? She insists on going back there to search for him. This story is fast paced with emotions, betrayals, action, adventure, deception, drama, suspense, tragedy, and twists. Characters are fleshed out, plot is well thought out and story is very well written. You will have a hard time putting this book down. This is another winning series for Judith. I voluntarily received a copy of this book from the author and I'm voluntarily posting a review. My opinion is entirely my own.
Book 3 picks up where Delusion Proof left off. Sonia's leg has healed but she is still suffering from PTSD and terrible nightmares. She decides to return to Syria to try to find out if her father is still alive in the hope that she can put her fear behind her and live a normal life. Jeff tries to talk her out of it but in the end he goes with her. Even with the protection of the Agency and the Canadian Embassy thinks take a turn for the worse. and innocent people die. This book is full of non-stop action with lots of twists and surprises. Will Sonia and Jeff get out of Syria alive? I don't want to spoil the suspense so you will have to read and see. Another great thriller with great characters that leaves me wanting Book 4.
I received an ARC of this novel. I must say it was an incredible read. I was hooked from page one and found it difficult to put down. Although this is the third book in the series it was not difficult to navigate having not read the first two. The characters are well developed and the emotional intensity along with the suspense make this an outstanding book. The twists that take place kept me guessing until the last pages. It is like the other Judith Lucci books I have read, full of excitement and love. This reads well as a standalone but I am now headed back to read the first two books.
OMG! Judith Lucci has done it again! They just keep getting better and better! This continuing story of Dr Sonia Amon will have you on the edge of your seat! Just when you think she is getting her happily ever after, tragedy strikes again. The things that you think would destroy her suddenly become the very things that drive her to keep going and get stronger. Just when you think you know what’s going to happen next, a new twist will appear that will keep you reading to the end. I can’t wait for the next book to come out!
Fast-paced drama that grabs you and holds on til the end
How much can one woman endure? Yet still love and care while fighting a battle against evil, that is her own father? He seems to always be a step ahead. She lost her fiance from a sniper, plus several 'unknown' causes, but found love and then a surprise pregnancy, while still trying to bring down her Syrian terrorist father and half sister. So many more tragic events, A huge loss, and a new life...you can't put it down til the end.
Dr Sonia Amon decides to travel to Syria to find out if her evil father, Emir Faisal Muhammed, is still alive. Sonia goes in for a battery of tests to travel over seas. She discovers she is pregnant. Sonia still travels to Syria with her husband Jeff. She discovers the Emir is in deed alive. Sonia discovers she has a half brother and a half sister. The Emir makes it know he is coming for her and her child. This novel will keep your interest throughout.
Wooooo....what a book. The author just send us in a rollercoaster of emotions, action and intrigue.
Dr. Amon return with a vengeance and being her father in search for that...is even too much.
Great and compelling characters, new friends and foes. Love lost, New Love, excellent story. This book is explosive and hope the next book could match this!
A well written perfectly paced story pulling you in from the start. Again Sonia is tested and struggles to get her life under control with help from Jeff and others. Filled with an action that keeps you turning the pages to get to the end of the book. A thriller series you want to pick up and all are standalone reads but a great story telling read.
So far this is a great thriller series with all kinds of different emotions from the characters. I'm about to read the rest of this series and will again give my recommendation to read which I highly suggest that that to be done if you are like me. There's action, love and family values all in one.
There is never a good reason to leave a good country or jump out of an airplane. You let them bring the fight to you not let them trap you on their turf. If she is smart enough to be a doctor and has combat experience, she should know better. The psychological thriller in this is she is acting insane.
An action packed thriller that has twists that you won't see coming. Book 2 in the Sonia Amon series is excellent. The characters are believable and likeable . I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys medical thrillers. I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest review.
Fool Proof grabs you from the start and never lets you go. Hold on for seat because this roller coaster of a book will not let you put it down!! Wow! I'm anxiously awaiting "Tamper Proof" book #4.
This is an amazing story, it depicts life and the troubles of war and injustice. The characters in this story are as real as the people in our lives.Great job Ms Lucci!!
OMG!! This story was riveting and heartbreaking at the same time. Sonia Amon has been through so much but love and hate keep her going. Friends and enemies - whose who? This series just keeps you guessing from one book to the next.
I'm so used to reading about a male hero, this series is amazing, spell binding, I couldn't put the books down. Can't wait for the next one to download. Keep up with your writing, you have the gift!!!!
Sonia and Jeff.. what a love story. The two of them together took on the biggest enemy in the world and kept each other strong for as long as possible. A really great read!
This is the third book in the Dr. Sonia Amon series and it is a relentless emotional rollercoaster ride. Sonia is now semi-retired from her medical practice as a result of the injuries and the resulting PTSD caused by her capture and torture at the hands of her father. It seems that the Emir, Sonia’s father, or his loyal followers are still pursuing her and her mom, Melody. To make matters worse, it now appears that Sonia has some half-siblings in league with the Emir who may pose serious additional threats. Buckle up for a thrill-packed adventure as Sonia and her husband, Jeff, take a proactive approach and return to Syria to hunt down these terrorist-affiliated family members in an effort to not only protect themselves but to protect the U.S. from the ongoing threat posed by her father and by ISIS. There will be joyous celebrations, life-changing events, tragedies, betrayals, deceptions, and unlikely new allies all competing for your attention in this fast-paced, can’t-wait-to-see-what-happens-next, heart-wrenching, handwringing, wonderfully compelling story. Whew! It was awesome. I can’t wait to see what the author has planned for Sonia and her family next!
This book and the others in this series are carefully crafted, well-planned, adrenalin-fueled adventures with wonderful characters (both lovable and loathsome). The stories involve war and terrorism so there is violence, but not graphically depicted. There is a bit of clean romance and no objectionable language.
While I was provided with an advance copy of this book by the author, I chose to purchase a copy and I am voluntarily offering this unbiased and honest review.
If you find this review helpful, I would thank you for so indicating.
The nightmares feed on the uncertainty in her life. Is someone trying to communication thru them. Jeff can’t believe she wants to go back to Syria. she wants to be sure her father and the evil is dead.A father who kidnapped her, and ruling Syria, until she had escape. Being his first born, the hate he had for her was deep now. Is the evil worse than what she thinks coming from the other siblings she questions. Was this the right move or something she felt had to be done. The sacrifices, will she lose everything, and who can they trust, it is riveting, terrorizing, of a couple who love one another so much, hopeful they won’t lose.
