Elder: Judgment, Revenge, Rewriting Destiny

Rate this book
The Druids were the most powerful beings that dwelled in Verbenia until an Elite Faery from the north, cut them down, wielding a dark and unfamiliar magic. They lost many lives and plunged themselves into the safety of hiding.

Now, centuries after a period of peace, rumors of war rip through the winds and reach the ears of Eadha, a vengeful general of the savage Druid army. After years of plotting her revenge, she is fueled by wrath and will stop at nothing to see the death of those that tore her people from the light. However, an ancient, unknown force is lurking in the shadows.

If Eadha wants to stop this looming bloodshed, she must bring her people out from the darkness and bargain with her old enemies: the Fae. As she infiltrates each court in Verbenia, she soon realizes that no amount of training could have prepared her to open the wounds of her past, and that failure could hold lethal consequences.

In Jordon Genestki’s debut novel, she takes us through the diverse lands of Verbenia on a journey of love, loss, friendship, and revenge. With her background in trauma and culturally informed research, we can see the very cultures of our world blossom within this fantasy realm, and experience the incredibly human struggles of how the past shapes who we are, and how we can overcome our future. As Eadha said it best: “To the years we have lost, and the future we’ll conquer.”

Age/Trigger Warnings: Some PTSD scenarios of past trauma/nightmares. Rated for age 14+

Storyline Review: Elder is set in Verbenia, a fictional universe based on mythology, Fae and Druids. The Druids are "extinct" to the Fae. The lead character, Eadha, is a high Druid with royal bloodlines in the Tiarna and general of the Laoch (Druid legion). Other main characters are of Fae and Druid origins. Their worlds are separated by an event that Eadha struggled through, yet survived, and prepared for the day they could return home or finish what was started. When visions come, Eadha is thrown into the Fae realm to go on a quest to prepare herself for the fight of her life. She meets many Fae along the way, some welcoming and others not so much. Ultimately, she has to make decisions to help others, be helped or make more sacrifices, even after she has yet to finish healing from her history.

Character Review: Eadha is a fearless leader when it comes to battle, protecting her people and leading an army of Druids. She has had a lot of hurt and sacrifice in her life. Corvis has also had a lot of hurts in his life but his story doesn't really open up until later in the book. You'll see the characters histories unfold like peeling layers of an onion. The unfold with time and might cause some heartache. Aine and Rigel have a special place in my heart because their relationship is the "black sheep" of their families, because they are the light from the darkness of their history, if that makes sense. Each character is well written with a descriptive appearance, personality and charisma that fits each persona.

Writing Review: I appreciate how the author put a lot of effort into accurately depicting each character's diversity in nationality and sexual orientation. I did not notate any errors in the grammar, spelling, punctuation and the editing was wonderfully done. You can tell there was a lot of time and energy spent researching mythology, nationalities and more because of how thorough the depictions of the gods/goddesses powers and their relationships with the Druids & Fae.

Additional Notes: This has been one of the best fantasy books I've read in a long time. The story was compelling and captured my attention page after page. I felt myself being torn with emotions, laughing with the characters, feeling the rush and panic during intense scenes. The characters are rich with descriptions. I felt all communications and relationships were well connected and didn't leave any loose ends open for question. I couldn't put this book down without feeling like I left something behind. If I could read a book again for the first time, it would be this one. I cannot wait to read it again.

*I was given a complimentary copy and was requested to honestly review the book. This review is not paid for by the author and the words written are my own."

This was a really good Fantasy read and the story was unique and unlike anything I’ve read before.

This is a high fantasy novel with a pretty complex and interesting magic system but because of the writing style I was never confused or lost throughout the book

The cast of characters is amazing and incredibly diverse and I love every single one of them. Especially Corvis, he holds a special place in my heart ❤️

It was interesting seeing Eadha and Corvis’ ptsd and trauma and how they dealt with and handling it. I really loved the bond that they shared and I wish we could have gotten to see it played out a bit more

One last thing... without saying any spoilers I’m just gonna say this, that ending absolutely killed me😭

I’ve never written a review before, but this book deserves one. Jordon has so thoroughly created a world that is magnificent and fleshed out and INTERESTING. Her characters have depth and I genuinely care about all of them (even sorlin). The amount of research and care she put into this book deserves all of the five stars in the world. Everything about this book is interesting. The magic system, the gods/goddesses, the lands in which the characters live, the creatures (based on actual Celtic mythology), the characters themselves. I’ve never seen a more diverse set of characters before. I LOVED this book and I cannot wait until she finishes the second one. Jordon, you’re amazing. Thank you for writing this book.

Imagine if you l close your eyes you would find yourself in an imaginary world. A world you know is imaginary but you can't stop manifesting it into your reality. Something similar happened to me while reading the a story. A book which is called "Elder: Judgment, Revenge, Rewriting Destiny". Here's my experience.
I usually start with the title and the cover of the book because that's the most exposed part of the book to the viewer's eyes. The title if the book as you all see tells a lot about the story, the theme basically. The cover on the other hand gives a vibe according to the title and completes the overall appearance. The first% image formed in my mind was crazy enough to motivate me, to complete the book.
Talking about the content of the book, when
I say a story based on imaginary world I mean a world that has been created by the author and is driven by the character made my author. It's equivalent to setting up a life and sounds really cool and while reading the book I could imagine the beauty of the authors mind which developed such a thrilling story. The book is a long read of about 400 pages which is a positive point for the fantasy lovers because it has such a detailed view of the story that would cause you a hangover after completing it. The story is based on some really interesting elements. Druids were the most powerful beings in Verbenia before an Elite Faery from the north slaughtered them. They lost a lot of people and retreated into the shelter of hiding. Now what's unique about the story is that after reading the book the concept looked really fresh although it's not. Taking it to the expressions, I would give it a 2/2 for expressions and feelings that were transferred. It was a roller coaster ride which I enjoyed so much that I am recommending it to all of you. I would like you all to give it a try and I guarantee you are going to enjoy it for sure. Also please do not share to spread as much as possible and do share your valuable comments and reviews.

A really interesting book which keeps you gripped till the end. Even when this is a long read, I wasn't able to put it down once I started reading it. I completed it within a few sittings. The research work done by the author should be highly appreciated. The writing style is really amazing and the narration is smooth and engaging. The charecterisation is superb and they are developed in a really good manner. I felt connected to them. The detailing in the plot is really good. I got lost in the fictional world which was created by the author.

I am really excited for Eadha and Corvis' journey ahead. Highly recommended from my side especially if you want to read something new.

I throughly enjoyed this story! You can tell the author did a lot of research regarding Celtic Mythology and poured that into this book. I think that some backstories on characters seemed familiar and the world building could have been beefed up a bit. However, the main storyline and the main female character were excellent which is what made the book for me. Great debut novel by and inside author and I can’t wait for the next book!

I absolutely loved this book and can't wait for book two! The entire book had me feeling a mixture of emotions all throughout, especially as we dived deeper into the two main characters pasts. I also found myself laughing out loud at the jokes and interactions between the characters. With each chapter I found a new reason to love every individual character. I was on the edge of my seat trying to figure out who I could trust and I couldn't. The journeys these character have to go on helps to fuel their character development perfectly. After that twist at the end, I can't wait to see what book two holds in store!

Soooo ok, I just finished this…. Where do I even start ok, it had its flaws, however, this book was AMAZING!! Pretty much the only thing I didn’t like was the long chapters and that’s on my ADHD I don’t like books tht have chapters longer than 7 pages. But if u like ACTUAL Faes and not the fake ones written by sjm with no research, whatsoever, go read this book cuz ISTG ITS AMAZING!! Whoever compared this to sjm books, I bet u haven’t even actually read this book😊 anyways, basically, I loved it and gave it 4.5/5

So so good .
I savored every word of this . One of my favorites I ever picked up . While there was an occasional spelling error it was truly engaging and the world building was so thought out and easy to understand and interesting and only made me want more of the fae and Druids , i loved all the characters I never usually say that but I did . I found myself relating to Corvis the most surprisingly as I find I don’t usually get drawn to male characters . He was really fascinating . I can’t wait for the sequel ! If you love fantasy , dragons , East African mythology , Celtic mythology , Druid’s, fae, magic , epic struggles . You’ll love this .
