I have to agree with several of the reviews of this manga. I really liked this manga volume, but the lack of physical intimacy felt out of place.
As someone who is ace, I totally understand the possibility of relationships without physical intimacy. I don’t have a problem with that. The problem is that occasionally this series hints or outright states that Otsu and Minegishi are sexually attracted to one another, and yet they don’t hold hands or even kiss.
It’s a choice that doesn’t make much sense. It seems like it’s stuck on being “wholesome” to a fault. For a story to be cute and sweet, it doesn’t need total absence of physical intimacy. The world wouldn't crash and burn of Otsu and Minegishi held hands at least or exchanged a little smooch. A perfect example of this is Old Fashioned Cupcake. It’s a BL mainly focused on the actual romance between the two characters with limited kisses and smut. It doesn’t need those things to tell a sweet love story, but it also doesn’t throw it to the wayside to stay cute. It’s authentic.
If from the start Otsu and Minegishi had absolutely no interest in a more physical relationship, then that’s fine. But it’s not quite it.
I still enjoyed the story and think the whole feeding kink thing is done tactfully, but I can’t help but feel unsatisfied.
This was super sweet and wholesome! I only have one issue with it, which is the very sad lack of smooches...
My dudes, Otsu and Minegishi exchange rings, they say they love each other and somehow *THAT* is the starting point of their romantic relationship? Huuuuh? Listen, I'm ace, so I have nothing against non-sexual relationships, but this felt kind of "sanitised"? There is one scene where Otsu definitely experiences sexual attraction (though he shuts it down immediately and never tells Minegishi), so uh what's the deal? Smh one kissing scene or one handholding scene wouldn't have made this less wholesome. :( And tbh the lack of any intimate scenes kind of suggests that it is a feeder kink from Minegishi, which is worse. Anyway, I'm just going to assume the smooches were censored or something.
It is a very cute series, still recommend it, just wish it had shown more intimacy in this last volume!
This series had been BEYOND cute. I absolutely adore Minegishi and Otsu, and their relationship is too adorable for words. I was pretty much laughing and smiling the entire time I read this. That said, I only gave this 4 stars instead not 5 because, as the final volume, it didn't really feel as resolved as it should. Although I love how these two darling idiots could easily end up MARRIED WITH KIDS before they even realized they were in Love with a capital L, they have a strangely asexual relationship despite them being heavily implied/outright stated (in Otsu's case) to be experiencing sexual attraction to one another. I have nothing against asexuality, of course (since...you know...I am in fact ace), but it feels oddly forced here, like the manga itself is going too far in the "gotta stay WHOLESOME" category that it no longer feels true to the characters or relationship.
Of course, I still highly recommend it and the series as a whole. The characters are so great, and I will dearly miss reading about them.
I must admit, I am disappointed in how neutered this volume felt. while it's sometimes cute how the main couple struggles to understand what they are to each other, I did become frustrated that there was no physical intimacy involved at any point. otsu and minegishi exchange loving words and objects of devotion, but they may as well be roommates in how they think of each other at times. when other characters brought up how "the relationship hadn't changed", I expected this to lead to the couple exchanging a first kiss, or holding hands, or exploring other forms of touch and physical intimacy. romantic relationships can exist without these things, of course, but the topic is never even brought up, which made everything feel a little hollow and like the company wanted to have its cake and eat it too by having a gay couple but not letting them kiss or discuss sex.
I don't understand why the sister was introduced. this series is so short that it felt strange shoving her in and letting her take up screen time that could have been used in fleshing out otsu and minegishi's budding relationship. her stalker obsession with otsu wasn't as cute as the mangaka seemed to think it was, and her dating the kouhai felt very much like a pair-the-spares decision.
the gay coworker reveal felt a little misplaced as well. we get a more serious moment when this coworker talks about his boyfriend and the shame he feels in "hiding" him, establishing that homophobia does exist in this setting. and yet, with that reveal, we get almost nothing else. otsu and minegishi don't discuss how public they feel comfortable being, if they're going to be "out" at the office, or anything like what many gay couples have to discuss (especially in more conservative environments like office jobs). instead they fumble along, doing something as serious as exchanging rings but not so much as even thinking about what they will call each other. I understand not wanting such heavy topics in a fluffy BL, but if that's the case then don't have the coworker revealed and discussed in this way!
ultimately this felt rushed and slapped together. it couldn't decide what emotional pace it wanted and is a real disappointment after the excellent first and second volumes.
final note: more kinda-creepy "feeder" behavior in parts of this, mainly a throwaway line about Otsu soaking up a lot of oil from a certain dish? the food and eating was mostly aboveboard and very cute, but wanted to make note of this odd comment in case it could be triggering for other fat people forced into these relationship dynamics without their consent.
This is a sweet conclusion to one of my favorite BL series. It continues to be wholesome and sweet; I love our main relationship. They are so precious and somewhat dorky in an adorable way. We also meet Minegishi's sister, Maron, and she's a great addition to the series. I also love Otsu's coworker, he's such a mood and a supportive friend. If you're looking for a sweet BL, this is one for you!
The only complaint I have about this series is that its sooooo short! I love love love this cute little fluff series so much. Its honestly the best parts of love. Its new and fresh and for the most part wholly innocent. not to mention if you love food this series is filled with goodies to add to your wanna try list.
I've already re-read volume one so many times and I see so many re-reads in my future!
This was just precious. I don't think I loved it as much as the previous two volumes, but this was just wonderful. I thought the ending could have been a bit stronger (could we have had ONE kiss????), but I digress. Still highly recommend.
This was a really sweet ending to the series. I feel like the manga as a whole had some ups and downs but I still really loved it as a whole. I had put off reading this volume because I was afraid I had raised my expectations too high, but I had nothing to worry about in the end.
*Original Review 1/7/2022* So cute but it moved too fast!! I'm so sad if this is really the end. I feel like there should've been more time in between otsu-kun realizing his feelings and the whole ring thing. I also really liked all the characters introduced this volume. I want a spin off with Mukuya and Ku-chan so CUTE. They seem like my favorite kind of couple. Also LOVED the sister and wanted more of her being a weirdo. I like that they gave us a bonus story with her and Tanaka. This was a good and cute series, but I just feel like it got too rushed :(
*Reread 5/17/2024* Okay new opinion. I think this should've just been one or two volumes. That thing with the ring was sooo drawn out. I think their whole story could've been condensed into one or two volumes and felt more satisfying than having it stretch for three. When they're stretched out, it makes it feel like there should've been more. The whole ring situation and Minegishi being jealous of Mukuya felt unnecessary at this point in the story. Like we already had Minegishi jealous of Mukuya in the bonus and that felt like enough. Although I did like him talking with Otsu and showing off his man. I still want that spin off. Anyway, I still enjoyed the series, but reading this volume made me lose steam for it. It's still cute and I don't think it's a bad ending, but I kind of lost steam by the third book. I probably won't want to read this again.
Torn between 3 and 4 stars, because while I thoroughly enjoyed this volume, and thought it had a really nice balance of character focus and story progression, I wanted more...romance?
That's not to say that two characters have to kiss to prove that they love each other. There's a lot of other nice stuff happening in this conclusion to the series: Minegishi and Otsu tell each other they love each other, confirm that they want to be together forever (as a couple), and exchange rings...not in that order, which is part of the story's humor and quirky approach to love.
But I still, after the final pages, am not sure I really understand how they feel about each other, romantically. Otsu, who's thought of Minegishi as super handsome since the moment they met, has several scenes where he's obviously thinking about him in a distinctly lustful manner - which he even admits at one point - but Minegishi just never does the same in turn. Too many of their romantic scenes cut to a joke, when he either says or thinks something like: "I love...watching you eat!"
Otsu tends to look disappointed during these moments, which demonstrates a gap that never quite closes. The closest we get, really, to any sense that Minegishi might be thinking about other levels in their relationship is how he reacts to the idea of Otsu eating a very phallic-looking chocolate banana...the one thing he gets flustered about and refuses to buy for Otsu. And while they spend the night together for new year's, there's no indication that they were actually together - just sharing the same space, kind of like roommates? But ones who wear matching rings and call each other boyfriends.
Otsu even says, with a little bit of visible disappointment, that not much seems to have really changed since they became official.
I wouldn't mind reading Minegishi as some level of ace, because he even says he's perfectly content with a one-sided relationship where he can quietly love Otsu without asking anything from him in turn. He wants to spend every day with Otsu, as much as possible, cooking him meals and seeing him being happy. That's fine with him, as long as he can be a major priority in Otsu's life (he does get jealous again when the handsome coworker they'd met in volume 2, Mukuya, transfers over to the main office).
Both Kunai and Minegishi's younger sister, Maron, call him out on his unintentional selfishness: they recognize that Otsu wants an actual relationship with him, and also wants to give in their relationship, rather than always taking.
I liked the little bit of backstory where Maron tells Tanaka about her childhood - being essentially raised by Minegishi when their father, and then their mother, died. She hadn't really realized until she saw Minegishi with Otsu that he likes taking care of others and hadn't ever seen that dynamic as a burden when they were young. It's where he thrives, and it truly makes him as happy as he keeps telling Otsu.
That's the sort of depth and complexity this series could've used more of, but it never really quite pulled itself out of the light humor territory. (Which I like, too, their disaster dating is sweet and funny, but there was such potential for more.)
The problem is that it's kind of hard to tell if Minegishi is actually attracted to Otsu. The art for this series is really appealing, and while Minegishi is of course beautiful, I appreciated how Otsu has nice sparkly close-ups (especially in volume 2) where he looks really attractive, too. There's one scene where a couple girls in a ramen shop are talking about how handsome Minegishi and Mukuya are, and then one of them comments on how she hadn't noticed Otsu at first, but he's really cute, too. Otsu is surprised - and then even more surprised because he realizes he doesn't care what a couple of female strangers think, when all he can focus on is Minegishi.
I wanted more of those kinds of realizations from Minegishi's side...as completely adorable as he is, with all his heart-on-his-sleeve moods and blushy moments, I just wanted to see him being hugely attracted to Otsu as a person and as a good-looking man. If we weren't going to get an "oh no he's hot" moment, I was at least hoping for more of those character-focused bits at work with Otsu being an excellent salesman and an inspiring, progressive thinker looking to make changes to their office environment - none of which made much of an appearance this time around, since we were hurrying to the close of their story and these are pretty thin volumes.
With the way Maron and Kunai pushed Minegishi into making things official with Otsu, it seemed like he was mostly doing what Otsu wanted. He's willing to do the rest of the traditional relationship things, if that's what will keep Otsu happy and by his side. Does he want that himself? Unclear. There's some sense that maybe he's just afraid of ruining things - he talks about disappointing Otsu and making him hate him - and maybe he doesn't have a lot of experience on that front. Again, there are possibilities for an ace reading, intentional or not.
It's interesting that Mukuya turns out to have a more straightforward...but not so straight...relationship with his very handsome boyfriend, whom he introduces to Otsu via photos. I liked that conversation between Mukuya and Otsu as Mukuya gives him relationship advice - specifically about what it's like to be part of a gay couple, where you can't proclaim your happiness to the world, or show your pride at being with your incredible partner. Again, flashes of such thoughtfulness and depth that made me wish all of this could've been explored more.
All in all, this was a very cute volume, and a nice conclusion to a very cute series. Could it have been better? Yeah. (I'm not terribly sure I'm into the sudden Maron/Tanaka either; I wanted him to find a girlfriend, but wasn't that really fast and kinda out of nowhere?) But I still really enjoyed it, and the art has such a warm, approachable, cozy feel to it.
I can't believe this series is over. It has taken this pair, seemingly forever, to get their act together. They started dating in their own, clueless way! Who gives the guy a ring, then decide to date. At least the pair are together and happy.
I love seeing all the side characters happy, especially Tanaka; he was my MVP. He encouraged them and just wanted the best for them. I will miss this series.
If you want a smut-less manga, this one is for you. It is nice to read some fluff too!
The art style in this one seems to abruptly change. They are no longer shaded with a cross hatching technique except for in small blurb page dividers. This new technique looks ugly on their style of hair. If I’m not mistaken I would say a brand new artist took over entirely because the line weight and pen technique are very different despite the characters looking the same. When the whole basis of their relationship is physical attraction and gift giving - It just hit a flat note. The final chapters instead focus on the sister/coworker dating. They don’t even hold hands what is this ending! I think the author grew tired of making this series where the main gay characters wear matching rings but never kiss. They spend the night together and we don’t get hijinks or anything. It's sweet if it didn’t feel like the author had no intention of them ever dating and that the entire series is just supposed to be a series of snippets of ‘will they won’t they’ that would never end- but I digress.
At least it’s finally over and I can say I read the whole series. The finale was filled with the usual clichés of enjoying eating food together, trying to tell each other their feelings, and being jealous when they’re around others. I did like the kind of twist ending with a coworker who was gay and had a happy relationship as well as the small hint that the female coworker was the same because there’s an ending scene with all of them looking at photos.

This was a sweet ending, I love that food tied them together until the end. It wasn’t just to see Otsu eat delicious food, the different things they ate had meaning. A specific food to bring in the new year, a new year the see together. Along with their wingman/wingwoman/No 1 fans. These two were very cute. I would only wish for a bit more development in the character, especially in Otsu coming to terms with what he feels and in Minegishi taking the plunge to tell Otsu how he feels. The ring thing is very reminiscent of Yuri on Ice, another story in which everyone understands what the rings symbolise but the relationship is not made clear. At least in this story they make it clear that the LOVE each other. Food is important. For cultures, for families, for friends and relationships. It makes complete sense for a love story to revolve around food. It’s the hub, but in volume 2 and 3 the author did a good job of showing that it’s more than just the food, it’s the company.

okay this was definitely the best of the three. great way to round out the series!! - minimal feeder/chubby chaser energy here from minegishi. and otsu has finally mellowed out.
- great focus on the side characters. tanaka on his own is just an absolute cinnamon roll, loved his cheering and support. maron was a great addition, her love for her brother is too pure. them together.....i could read an entire multi-volume series just on tanaka and maron's relationship...they are sooooo cute!!!!!!! squeeeee!! (๑˃ᴗ˂)ﻭ their bonus chapter was just adorable. then, there was mukuya (their coworker) and his partner ku - equally adorable, even if we only see them briefly! the way mukuya speaks about ku is just (´꒳`)♡
- we get full commitment, an exchange of rings, and a declaration of love. very nice to see minegishi and otsu actually be official partners.

(3.5) ~Review for the series~ This is a cute manga, but it never quite hit me like I expected. It started with promises of a rivals-to-lovers vibe, but after a while the story doesn’t seem to have any type of direction and it’s scattered all over the place (and not in a way that still feels coherent like other slice-of-life mangas). I usually love office romances, especially when it’s a manga series, but this felt less like a romance and more of a weird relationship. Which again, would’ve been fine if that’s the way the series was marketed.
I’d still recommend this series to people, though! It’s too unusual to see fat bodies in manga where they are no only portrayed as normal but also desirable. And the first half of the first volume and the third volume have some really cute moments. It’s a short, fun read that made me smile quite a few times. 🖤
Well, I suspected I would be, and I am disappointed. But, I wanted to finish the series, since this was the last one. While parts were cute, and I really loved Otsu's personality, positivity and his growing attraction to Minegishi, I was left disappointed that Minegishi's only interest was in watching Otsu eat. There didn't seem to be genuine affection from his side of the friendship, and when it came to the ring exchange, neither knew they were making a committing to a genuine *relationship* rather than an agreement to cook/eat for each other. Minegishi's obsession with Otsu eating got wearing after a while, especially as Otsu's feelings were growing and had never really been entirely food-related in the first place.
Despite this being a romance series, I've listed it a "no romance" because there isn't a single kiss, hand-holding or romantic moment between Otsu and Minegishi.

4.25 stars - I have seen people complain that Minegishi is fetish-y and just wants to feed Otsu, but having read the whole thing and that’s not how it seems to me (I am fat, btw, for perspective.) Having read a fair-ish bit of BL manga, this just seemed like Minegishi wanting to make Otsu happy and he knows food often makes him happy, and he can make/bring food to him as a way to interact. And later, it’s a way of sharing their lives together (and it seems to a theme in Japanese media, sharing meals as a way to start a relationship.) They are just so cyute!!!
"I'd choose watching you eat over fireworks forever" is supposed to sound romantic I guess, but wow it definitely just makes this feel like a feeder fetish book. And it isn't remotely helped by the fact that the leads didn't even consider themselves dating despite *having exchanged rings* and the love confession was just tacked on at the very end because other characters prodded them into it. It's supposed to be funny but UGH, come on, Japan.
Getting increasingly disappointed by Seven Seas' offerings now that they've let the taste of that sweet fujoshi dollar go to their heads.
More of a 3.5 star rating but I gave this last volume 4 stars since the ending was adorable. A new character gets introduced as Minegishi’s sister and a brief character from volume 2 returns as a new coworker, and both were great additions to the storyline. I really liked seeing the amount of progress that Otsu and Minegishi’s relationship goes through in this last volume. I found everything really adorable and am glad I read Otsu and Minegishi’s journey. Also, I found it lovely that Tanaka got his own little love story with Minegishi’s sister.

This is such a good series for anyone who isn’t a fan of classic smutty BL manga and wants something more sweet. I absolutely adore this series but was a little disappointed when I found out this was the last volume. Since this was the last volume I was hoping for a little more romance but it’s still able to convey how much the two like each other with out it. The ending definitely left me wanting more!
I love this series oh so very much! Minegishi is the perfect partner for any chubby person, and it felt very realistic and organic to watch this couple come together. I love the introduction of a particular character that gave us an extra insight into Minegishi in this volume, because it helped flush out parts of this story, as well as fuel the comedy. I love it so much! Please read this series!
