Just after 10am, on May 1, 2020 the Wilmington police department arrived at Samuel Cook's house. They were there to arrest him and the seven women living with him. They were all going to be charged with kidnapping, robbery, murder, and tamping with evidence. Once they were on the premises, the sound of gunfire erupted in the neighbourhood. Leaving one police officer dead, and two others severely injured. Samuel and three of the seven women shot themselves before help had arrived on the scene. All three women died while Samuel was being transported to the hospital. The remaining four women were arrested and charged with the previous offenses in addition to the murder of the police officer, and the assault of the injured.
