Some people would say I’m a recluse. Some would say an introvert. And they’re all right. I like to keep to myself and I love being in my own little world. One day, maybe I’ll be a cat lady. No, scratch that, I’m not a cat person. Dogs? Fish? Whatever. Point is, because of my past, I don’t do well with people.

Then one day, in the only place outside of my home that I feel comfortable, my world is turned upside down. In walks a man, in his police uniform, who stops me dead in my tracks. Which, of course, I proceed to stare at him, and he catches me. Awesomesauce.

Think he left me alone? Nope. On his way out, he even said goodbye and get me to notice him one more time. And now the one place I loved and felt safe is tainted. Guess I’ll have to just work at home now.

At least I'll never have to see him again.

Trigger warning: May contain triggering content for some readers. Neighbors is a friends to lovers romance book. 80,000+ words. This is a standalone novel with a HEA.

DNF ~55% I never thought I'd say this one day, but I'm sick and tired of incessant ranting. I just want to read a riveting, gripping romance book IS ALL. Is it too much to ask? 🥲

Another book where the heroine is being healed by the magical joystick, since receiving professional, qualified help (she clearly has a dire need for) is very outdated and outrageously unfashionable thing to do these days. Her mental, trust and god knows what other issues last for a dozen of years, but her path gets crossed by a hot, Greek-god type of a cop's dick and she ceases to have panic attacks and finally feels like she belongs and fits somewhere. DID I JUST STEP MY FOOT ON A FAIRYTALE LAND? Take notes, that's how social anxiety disorder gets treated in our era of technological and scientific supremacy according to this book. 😌

I would still have probably given this story 2 stars and turned a blind eye to:

📍 mediocre writing
📍one-dimensional characters

(-the hero's ex-girlfriend who acts like a she-devil slut incarnated plot device rather than a human being with her virtues and shortcomings;
- the heroine's friend, a good kind of the same female species called 'slutty'. In other words, a sex crazed, frivolous, outgoing party-goer who always pushes her exact opposite, the heroine, for adventures aka sexcapades (because sexcapades cure psychological trauma better than therapists, silly me)

📍 very modest ration of originality
📍 magical dick healing nonsense

IF I WAS A KINDER AND LESS PETTY PERSON.💀💀

How-fucking-ever, right in the middle of the book (the middle that should have become a logical ending for this basic, sweet, fair-to-middling story, if you ask me for my humble opinion), the big terrible misunderstanding happens 🤡🤡👏🏻 that is not so much irrelevant and unnecessary, as it is inexplicably dumb, poorly executed and cliché-filled.

👏🏻SHALL I SPOIL YOU? YES, YES I SHALL. I WILL. I SHOULD.

The hero's cheating-clingy-ex-girlfriend shows up at his doorstep, spits a bunch of implausible lies and bullshit, which, consequently, sends our heroine...nah,
-not laughing
- not on her merry way to therapist
- not on her unmerry way to her boyfriend
but rather 👏🏻🧠

Grabbing my keys and purse, I run. Right out of the apartment, out to my car, and out of Bryce’s life. I clutch my chest once I sit in the driver’s seat and slam the door. I allow myself to cry for a minute, then realize I need to leave before Bryce gets home. There is no part of me that wants to even look at him. He deceived me like they all did in the past. None of it was real.

That was precisely the moment of dnf'ing that followed my drama queen 'banging head against a brick wall' moment of weakness. DEAR AUTHORS, STOP INSULTING OUR INTELLIGENCE. DO WE ALL, ROMANCE READERS, LOOK LIKE WE ENJOY READING ABOUT INTELLECTUALLY CHALLENGED CHARACTERS AND UNORIGINAL DRAMA FOR THE SAKE OF DRAMA???🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂

While I'm still mad at myself/this author/her book for eating my precious time, lemme waste a little more of this finite resource on the mAsTeRpIeCe and go into detail about things that caused my head to ache, but also to remember (that's my silver lining) an unprecedented number of obscenities in all the languages I speak.

📍Kitty Kat is a nice (?) name-calling tactics, but it might have made me throw up a little because who would mind when SO MUCH COY SWEETNESS IS BEING SHOVED DOWN THEIR THROATS...

📍I just know that the hero of this book says this

That’s actually refreshing. I can tell it isn’t an act. She truly is virtuous. She doesn’t flaunt her sexy body or flirt with anyone in the room; she just keeps to herself.

only to clown me and make my eyes roll back into my head.

📍Later into the story, it becomes painfully conspicuous that his easy understanding and "acceptance" of her repressed sexuality and nonexistent social skills, produced by her traumatic past experience (that led to SOCIAL ANXIETY), borders on actual enjoyment of the fact? It didn't help the matters that her social anxiety and introversy got mingled and perceived as something inherently bad (never mind those concepts are not correlated; she should have received help with her PTSD and anxiety, while her introversy should NOT have been violated by her so called friends that kept forcing her into uncomfortable situations).

The hero's reaction to her issues might make feeble sense, if we collectively go crazy and try to justify his newly acquired complexes by the circumstances of his breakup with the notorious promiscious ex-girlfriend. He came off as a man suffering from deeply inborn male insecurity who had finally found himself a perfectly shy girl to soothe his hurt ego, rather than an understanding boyfriend.

From my vantage point, their supposedly sweet and healthy romantic relationship, based on friendship they had developed over a meal/film/week 🤡👏🏻 (take your pick), already does not look quite as sweet and healthy as it was probably meant to be.

2 and a half stars. I love friends to lovers.... I love neighbors.... I LIKED this but it seemed to just go on and on a bit too long for me. I was happy to get to the end and I was happy they got their HEA.

I hated the ex and what happened towards the middle was unnecessary and it made me uncomfortable and almost didn't want to continue reading.

& many mistakes that should've been caught in editing.

Let me start off.....

Okay let me start off by saying, this is a really good read. The story line is good, its emotional, the charachters are pretty panned out and believable. I really like it......HOWEVER I really really hate when they are not edited right. Sentences repeating themselves. Wrong words written in the sentence instead of the correct one. Not having the correct phrasing in a sentence. Putting a past verb instead of the present verb. After a while it gets annoying. I can fill it in , but it kinda messes with the flow of reading when I have to mentally fix it. Other than that it was a good read. So if you can get past all the mistakes , give it a go!

It’s technically well written although there are still some editing errors remaining. I wanted to like it but had difficulty with a few issues. I don’t want to leave any spoilers, so I’ll generalize.

There are four main characters who contribute dialogue, and they all have the same vocabulary and usage. If I had taken much of their dialogue out of context, I wouldn’t know who said it in a lineup unless it had to do specifically with their backstory. I didn’t see much in terms of character development that diverged from that. I get that the two protagonists find each other to be hot, but not much else. I know more about the female character than the male.

It says friends to lovers, but it wasn’t a friendship. The male protagonist clearly found her hot and accommodated her in order to court her. I have no idea how he felt about what it was that she wanted to do, only that he did it. They didn’t do things he wanted to do, I don’t know what those are. There was no trust and little camaraderie between them. There’s no shared story of something that wasn’t generic - they had a meal, they watched a movie, they had sex sort of thing.

There are distinct differences between PTSD, introversion and social anxiety, but all of those concepts are used interchangeably. Although I am okay with a character not knowing the difference, I’d expect the author to know. It was difficult to watch a socially anxious character with PTSD get harangued by those surrounding her who were supposed to be supportive friends, forcing her to do things their way by essentially bullying her. It was also difficult to see portrayals of introversion treated as something inherently pathological and negative, justifying manipulation and abusive intervention.

The plot I found to be contrived, the negative trope of ‘crazy ex’ preventable by the simple expedient of blocking someone as a contact. The mechanical plot drove the narrative more than the characters did.

This was a sometimes sad and thought provoking romance book.

The premise of Kat having anxiety was great, it shows a good dose of reality in this book. We see Bryce meet her and have an immediate connection, but it is a bit of a battle with her anxiety being ever present. Throughout the book we see flashbacks to the bullying in her teenage years, which is the root of her anxiety. Bryce helps manage the anxiety, they fall in love, and they eventually have their happy ending.

Now, to a couple issues and they may contain SPOILERS. I am not sure the use of Bryce’s ex-girlfriend was needed to cause the temporary breakup of Bryce and Kat. I feel like dealing with the anxiety issue was enough for drama, but at least the ex was only a small part of the book. The other unnecessary part was Kat’s car accident. It just felt like it was added in near the end of the book for filler.

I recommend this book, but with one caveat. This book is not all happy, it is sometimes sad and will make the reader angry. We see bullying and the damage from it, but the subject was covered well in this book.

This book ran the gamut of feelings for me! I was hesitant at first to even open it but once I did I could not stop reading as it was so good! You get the feeling that these two were so different that it is imaginable hoe they ended up meeting making it a fate that was so worth the time to invest! I enjoyed this book but it hit a spot in my heart because I know exactly how each was feeling as they were going through this journey. I just wanted to resume with this story once it was over. I could not get enough of it. Kat hit home with me, I felt everything she felt, it was so remarkable. Bryce he was a man I want in my corner, my life, someone with whom I could see myself with. He is another remarkable written character. The way he flows through the pages you just can not help but fall in love with him. I absolutely loved this story! I did not want it to end! I am so excited to invite Miss Rhys into my library and will whole heartedly recommend this story to anyone who will listen and take a chance on this author. You will not be sorry that you did!

This is an awesome read. It’s an emotional roller coaster ride for Kat and Bryce. Bryce is a police officer and transferred to Las Vegas to get away from his past and the betrayal of his ex girlfriend. He first lays eyes on Kat in a small coffee shop and is instantly attracted to her. Kat notices him to but she has issues of anxiety, panic attacks and tries to keep a low profile. He wants to get to know her but fears he will ever see her again. Then he discovers they are actually neighbors. He realizes Kayhas issues and slowly he gains her trust. They becomes friends, then lovers and just when they are both ready to reveal the L word, Bryce’s past shows up and everything falls apart. A good storyline and wonderful characters that are totally believable. I loved Bryce, he was so kind, considerate ad protective of Kat. There are some editing issues but I highly recommend this book.. I would love to see Austin and Vicki get their own story

Neighbors offers a warm and emotionally grounded friends-to-lovers romance centered on vulnerability, healing, and unexpected connection.

The heroine’s introverted nature and self protective habits feel authentic and relatable, particularly as her safe routines are disrupted by the arrival of a persistent (and undeniably charming) police officer. Their early interactions blend awkward humor with subtle tension, creating a believable foundation for slow-burn attraction.

What makes the story stand out is its focus on emotional safety. The heroine’s guarded worldview and past trauma shape the pacing of the romance, allowing trust to build gradually rather than instantly. The dynamic between independence and emotional risk gives the relationship depth beyond surface chemistry.

With its standalone structure and satisfying HEA, Neighbors delivers a character-driven contemporary romance that balances lighthearted moments with meaningful emotional growth.

An enjoyable read:
I thought this was an enjoyable book that had just the right mix of romance, suspense and drama. It was however quite tragic and sad at times and the subject matter (spoiler alert - bullying) may be difficult for some people to read. There was however hope and light amongst the darkness.
Kat was an introvert and rather socially awkward. She had been really hurt in the past and it was nice seeing her come into her own and find love and healing with Bryce's encouragement and help. I loved how caring, understanding and protective he was towards her.
I found that the short sentences and clumsy sentence construction came across as being rather stilted and frankly, quite annoying. Despite that I still really enjoyed this book and I was cheering for these two and was so happy when things finally worked out.

Steamy, angsty, emotional

As my first read by this author I was intrigued by the characters from the get-go. Kat is an emotional woman with deep seeded scars from a life unkind. She’s also funny, smart, and strong even though she doesn’t see it sometimes. Then there was Bryce, the hot cop who tilted her world. He can see she’s in need of a friend and he aims to do just that. He’s also patient and he listens to all the horror stories Kat had endured through her life. The two of them had an instant angsty chemistry that kept me needing more. I enjoyed the ups and downs in this book and thought the author did an awesome job of telling the story. If you like build-up, emotional backstory, and some heated scenes between the sheets grab this book!

Kat still has anxiety issues from the bullying in her life. Bryce moves to Las Vegas after breaking up with his cheating fiancee in Florida. He's completely swoon-worthy. When they meet for the first time, he knows she's "the one", yet willing to wait for her to be ready. And it takes her a good while to be able to trust him with her heart. With his patience and friendship, she finally comes out of her shell to find the life she deserves. This is my first book from this author, and I'll definitely look for her again.

Loved the book it was great, the story was written well and the characters were interesting. This story of Katrina and Bryce was amazing, the emotional turmoil, the ups and downs, anxiety, pain and more just to mention a few. To see that one person that takes your breathaway, that is how Bryce felt the first time he saw Kat in the coffee shop. Kat noticed Bryce stare at her just as she noticed him, instant attraction. Kat never wanted to go back to the coffee shop her anxiety stopped her. Will they see each other again?

what a good read, Lynn rhys takes us on a roller coaster of emotions from highs to lows. This book contains a few triggers. We get to meet the two main characters; Kat who has been having anxiety attacks since she was a teenager because of some serious bullying (we do get some flashback of the bullying) but along comes Bryce who becomes a important person in her life as he helps her though all the anxiety attacks. They start off as strangers in a coffee shop. On to neighbours, then to friends and then finally lovers. Bruce has a few secrets but is he willing to share them with Kat or will they cause some trouble between the couple???

Kat has some serious issues. She has been bullied most of her life and now she just wants to be left alone to do her job, drink her coffee and hang out with her friend Vicki. When she meets a hot cop, she does what she does best--she runs.

They find each other and Kat finally starts to trust again. But this is not a fairy tale and the cop manages to hurt her again and again.

I felt the angst was way overdone, and personally I feel the Kat character was too easy in her forgive and forget moments. There are most likely a lot of people that will enjoy this book a lot. I wish I was one of them. It started off so great, and I was thinking of all the 5 star things I could apply to a review. For those that enjoy the angst ridden stories, this one should be at the top of your list.

Beautiful Story!

I really loved Kat and Bryce’s story. Beautiful story! Kat has had unfortunate life experiences that really made me sad. But watching her grow and fight her inner battles you can’t help but be in her corner. Bryce really brings her out of her shell and you can’t help but swoon and quickly turn the page to see when it all comes together. Their interaction and the anticipation each time they encounter each other will make you swoon, have some butterflies, laugh, cry and say “Aw”. Loved it!

A wonderful and emotional love story

I don't normally read romance books but decided to give this one a try. So glad I did! Bryce and Kat's story grabbed my attention from their first meeting in the coffee shop, all the way to the end. Katrina's social anxieties, especially around men reminded me of myself as a young man. I had very similar issues around women, so it was a nice change to see those same emotions and thoughts portrayed in a woman.

I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for a nice easy read filled with emotion.

This is the story of Kat and Bryce. Kat keeps to herself, as the book progressed we learned about Kat and why she is the way she is. Bryce is her neighbor and starts to get to know Kat. Kat is a wonderful character and the more I read the more I wanted to find out why she acted like she did. Bryce and her had chemistry and this book just hooked me and I could not put it down. I loved how Bryce got to Kat and how she finally opened up. This is a wonderful story.

First off, I’ll never be able to listen to “In Case You Didn’t Know” ever again without thinking of Neighbors and every time Katrina and Bryce mention or play it. I read this while taking a break from a massive series by another author of a different genre, and let me tell you, this book is perfect. The FMC and MMC have such a rocky start, but once they finally click and egos and hurt are pushed aside, their love is beautiful. Bryce pushes Katrina to be a better version of herself, but also lets her know that she’s perfect the way she is. I could not get enough of their love.

I received an ARC from the author thru Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving my review. Bryce and Katrina meet in the coffee shop one day. The attraction is instant and neither expected it. Bryce has been burnt and moved there to get away from it all. Katrina is a loner and has no intentions of changing that. When they realize that they are neighbors, he could not be happier. He plans to get to know the her much better, but things do not go smoothly. Katrina cannot deny their attraction for long but can he win her trust and her heart. Their story has drama, heartache and finally love.

I’m not normally a fan of men in uniform, but Bryce might have changed my mind! From the first moment the two main characters lock eyes at the coffee shop, the author has you hooked. Especially since the male main character has been burned before. You can’t help but root for them!

This is a sweet and honest love story!

I really enjoyed Kat and Bryce’s love story!

Lynn has written social anxiety in a way I have been trying to articulate all if my life. It is simply crippling and she bails it!

She also shares the honesty of falling in love. This story is beautifully written with just a touch of cliche!

kat was so relatable. the part about her anxiety attacks hit home and made me cry. bryce is so sweet, i love him, especially for kat. beginning was a bit cringey and boring for a few chapters but it did get good. the tropes were good but some things just didn’t make sense. like some was just not very realistic, but then again it’s a book. it was cute, and the end was so sweet.

Great 2nd book

This book lets us get to know Bryce and Kat (Katrina). First, I identified with Kat and the story so much so this book really touched my heart. Bryce and Kat’s story is filled with the twists and turns I’m learning to expect from Lynn and is just absolutely amazing! I’m absolutely loving this new author and can’t wait to see what she comes up with next!

Sweet love story

This is a very sweet story with just a bit of spice.

The way that they connect and Bryce helps Kat overcome some personal issues makes for a perfect love story. Of course, there are bumps along the way, but in the end, they figure it out and live HEA.
