The Spectral Files #3

Spooky Business

Rate this book
Being insatiably curious is a good way to end up dead.

Rain Christiansen, cold case detective and reluctant medium, is very aware of that fact. But when infamous serial killer Thomas Kane wants to meet, there’s no way Rain can say no. He also can’t refuse Kane’s offer—find his missing wife, Delilah, and he’ll reveal the location of his victim’s bodies.

Rain has never turned down a good quid pro quo, and he doesn’t intend to start.

The hunt for Kane’s wife leads to yet another cold case, three copycat murders, and an investigation where nothing is as it seems. Soon, Rain is dealing with a ghost unlike any he’s ever dealt with before…a ghost capable of doing things he shouldn’t be able to do. How can Rain control something he doesn’t even understand? And what will he do when the unknown threatens the safety of the most important person in his life?

Rain is starting to realize that he can only battle the supernatural with the supernatural, and that is spooky business indeed.

This book was almost perfect. And it might be my favourite in the series so far.

Rain and Danny are just amazing. I love them as characters and I love everything about their relationship, both the emotional parts and the humor. The banter between them is spot on.

I absolutely loved Rain's family in this one, as well as Dakota and everyone on the PTU team. I love how this author manages to write quirky and fun characters without ever making them sound silly or OTT.

The mystery was excellent, probably my favourite so far, as well. As the author put it nicely, the way it unfolded was like peeling layers of an onion. And I enjoyed every step of the way.

My only complaint is that there were a few inconsistencies in the story, and there were a couple of scenes that I had minor issues with. But nevertheless, I still loved it and enjoyed reading it immensely.

I am a huge S.E Harmon fangirl and I have read and loved many of her books, but out of all of those, Rainstorm and Danny will always be my favorite I think.

you guys are my favorite gif - Google Zoeken

What I love most about this series, is that there is a perfect blend between suspense, humor, and romance, which makes for an awesome nailbiting read. There were moments I was laughing my ass off because Rainstorm (Moonbeam) must be one of the funniest characters I have ever met, and then there were moments I was on the edge of my seat holding my breath.

And let's be honest here... this book has ghosts!! Do I need to say more??

ghosts gif - Google Zoeken

I think the creep-factor goes up a bit with each book, which I am fine with. As long as there are also funny and loving parts, I am a happy little camper.

By the way things ended, I am hoping there will be plenty more books. I am sure I could read 50 more books in this series and still be entertained by Rain, Danny, and their entourage.

give me more gif - Google Zoeken

We shall hope and see.....

Gaaahhh!! This was spooooky and amazing.

Joseph’s wild laughter danced in the air. I told you I’d show you a good time.

S.E. Harmon is one of my favs, I love her stories because she doesn't follow the formula.....That tiring cliché mm formula. I am always excited to read her books. It all started with Stay with Me and I became hooked for life.

Book 3 in The Spectral Files and boy things have changed.

description

The writing is so good. Being in Rain's head is the best thing ever. His sarcastic tone and humor! Gaaah! Had me loling so hard. The Banter! Lol!! Rain has become one of my favorite characters, he is such a good company, and his character has developed so much since book 1 and at the same time not losing himself along the way.

Danny. Gaaah! Bless his gentle patient self. He is so good to Rain, what a beautiful soul, I love him. I need a Danny in my life. Hell! We all need a Danny.

The supporting characters are also so well written. Rain's parents are the best and I am starting to like Paula. Kevin, Nick and the rest of the team are amazing.

The relationship between Rain and Danny is just GAAAAHH!! This two belong together. They complement each other so well. Their sex scenes are not that detailed but at the same time still so hot.

description

The Mystery in this one is the best in the series. They all had me at serial killer. Yipppiiie!! Good thing it was interesting. Spooky but very interesting. What an awful being. Ugh!

description

The ghost. Lawd, what an angry meany.. I am not used to the angry kind of ghosts in this series, they are usually darlings. I have to say, I like this direction.

description

The events towards the end.. OMG!!! What an awful intense ride.

description

Overall, It was an amazing addition to this series and I had an amazing time.

Rereading this series because book 5 comes out next month!!!

Just as good, if not better on a second read. The writing, the banter, the heart, the intimacy, the spooky factor, the side characters, but mostly the love. The deep love between these two is woven so perfectly throughout this story.

Original review

Rain and Danny are one of my absolute favorite couples.

His hand, rough and calloused, ran up and down my back in soothing circles as he murmured something against my ear. I was too out of it to process many of the words, but I caught “love you” and “so fucking much,” with a “sweetheart” somewhere in between.

I love Harmon’s banter and sense of humor! I was rolling in laughter at the scene with the air mattress.

This one was heavier on the creepy factor with a jailed serial killer who requests a meeting with Rain.

He’d added substantial muscle during his imprisonment…because there was nothing smarter than giving men with no options, and nothing except time on their hands, the opportunity to finally achieve that elusive beach body.

Of course there are angry ghosts, and one that wants to get a little to close to Rain. With the multiple mysteries going on, and an obsessive ghost popping up, Rain is a tad scattered. Danny is his rock. It broke my heart a little when we find out how long Danny has loved Rain, but then again, it also made me love him that much more.

This moment at the end.

The sooner he asked, the sooner I could say yes. He was already mine, and I was already his, but I wanted the words.

"“You’re mine and I’m yours,” Danny whispered in my ear. My breath caught in my throat as he shoved inside of me again. “And I don’t care who thinks otherwise.”"

Danny and Rain, precious as always❤️.

This book was pure perfection (imo). I loved every bit of it, the spooky and the crazy, and the sweet tender/romantic moments between this beautiful couple. It was everything I was hoping for it to be and more. S.E. Harmon did not disappoint!

Brief Summary:

Spooky Business is the third book of The Spectral Files series. It is also the third book that I have read by this author. Book 3 picks up where we left off in Book 2, the mystery that was Thomas Kane, a certified psychopath and a serial killer.

Rain's former FBI boss contacts him due to his abilities and also because our serial killer requested him personally, he will only speak with Rain to find his wife Delilah Rose. In exchange, Thomas will tell the FBI where he hid the body of his "roses"/victims.

There is also a new ghost that is hunting Rain in his dreams and calling for his attention, Joseph "Joey" Carr. Joey's intrusion into Rain's life also means an intrusion to his personal/professional life. Joey is the new cold case that the PTU must solve. However, Joey is not like the previous ghosts that Rain has encountered. Joey is a confused/resistant ghost and at times unpredictable and angry. His existence also threatens both Danny and Rain's life.

Little does our MC know, Joey and Thomas Kane are connected in interesting ways. There are multiple suspects in this case, lots of supernatural/paranormal activities. Aside from this mysterious but intriguing case, Book 3 also has lots of romance and adorable moments between Rain and Danny. In my opinion, this book is the best one in the series.

Verdict on Book 3:

First things first, happy pride month!🌈. What better way to celebrate then to write a review about my faves? haha.

Book 3 was fantastic. It had romance that was lacking in book 2 and the case was never a dull moment. So many precious moments between Danny and Rain, so I cannot choose. I loved how spooky and creepy Joey was, it really added to the mystery and the paranormal aspect of the book. His obsession with Rain really added to the spook/mystery.

Thomas Kane the serial killer, was another creep that contributed to making this book very intriguing. He was a psychopath in every sense and even in prison, he still showed no remorse. I cannot say I am sad about what happened to him, I think we can say that justice was indeed served.

While, I thought the mystery was done very well, I think it can be said that the romance was even better. I was really disappointed in book 2 because it lacked the passion and romance of book 1. However, book 3 made up for it. The sex scenes, the sweet moments/cuddling scenes, the moments where Danny and Rain were vulnerable and worried for each other was absolutely beautiful and romantic. S.E. Harmon makes the reader feel that these two are made for each other and not even a crazy ghost or a serial killer can come in between them.

I loved Rain's continued sarcasm and humor, his friendship with Dakota Daydream, the PTU crew, reconnecting with his own family, Danny's mom and being more committed to Danny in general. His character development is astounding. Rain has transformed from a cold detached profiler who worked with the FBI to someone who is loving, vulnerable, social and caring. Not that he was not those things before but in Book 3 we saw his growth come in full circle. He is also more in control of his supernatural abilities and more confident as a medium.

And while, I loved almost everything about this book, my favorite part was Danny. He is such a beloved character. You never doubt his love for Rain or his commitment, even though Rain had previously left him in the beginning of book 1. Danny makes it easy to fall in love with him. He is romantic, funny, sweet, caring, protective, sexy and so much more. I loved that we got to know more about him in this book. He is altogether a precious character that you cannot help but to love and cherish. He must be protected at all costs.

I could write an essay about why I loved book 3 but I don't think my wrists can handle so much typing lol, so on that note I will end this review here. I look forward to reading book 4 even though I have heard its not as good as this one, I will read it for Danny and Rain of course.

When is the next book???
Ugh! I hate waiting! This is why I will read an old series that has a gazillion books already written. I am a reading hedonist. No delaying gratification. I want it now!

This series has really hit its stride. So good!
In this one we have our ghost whisperer, Rain, dealing with several things at once. The first being a serial killer who is trying to Hannibal him, and the rest being ghosts. Lots and lots of ghosts. And, that's Rain's thing, but one ghost is getting a little too familiar.

Dude. No means no.

There are a few crimes and perpetrators which kept the ball rolling the whole time. I found myself worrying a few times and I wish that Rain would get his shit together and learn more about how to deal with the undead. He is super inept and that ain't gonna cut it when a ghost is being unruly.

Come on man, you're a ghost hunter. You should be able to handle things like this by now. Sheesh! Next thing you know he will try and speak English to some 300 year old German ghost.
I'm surrounded by amateurs!

The ending on this one was expected, but not satisfying. I need more information before I freak out. Which I guess means I will have to freak out for the next six months to a year.
Get writing, S.E!!
If I die of the plague before it's released I'm coming to haunt your ass!

What I like about Harmon, and this series in particular, is the humor in and amongst some literal spookiness and this 3rd installment doesn’t disappoint!

No doubt Rain is exasperating. He’s so snarky, always tries to avoid the uncomfortable issues that often plague him, and hedges on communicating with his lover Danny as much as he can get away with. Despite him driving me crazy, his sarcastic wit is still spot on, made all the more entertaining as his straight and narrow self can’t easily reconcile the fact that his “powers” are not grounded in reality, hence setting up plenty of conflict and funny business.

It’s not all shits and giggles though, as this time around Rain interacts with a notorious serial killer who promises his victims’ locations if Rain helps him discover what happened to his missing wife. To make things more complicated, Rain is also plagued by a very handsy and persistent ghost who wants Rain all for himself.

Always by his side is the sexy Danny, who still remains a top book boyfriend, who’s also equally exasperated as he is charmed by Rain, and who swoonily puts Rain first. Harmon doesn’t shirk on the romance, and she’s always consistent with the yummy smexy. The supporting cast is nothing to sneeze at as well, and the various cold cases investigated are consistently compelling and tragic.

Again, another great entry to this series! Here’s hoping there’s many more to come!

As much as I loved the first two books in this series, I think book 3 is my favorite. Yes, it still had a spooky ass ghosts, but there was so much more to this story. We learn so much more about Danny and Rain’s relationship and their fears. I can’t tell you how much I adore these two together.

As far as the ghosts, yea I was freaked out, but I couldn’t put the book down. There is one part where I think I stopped breathing because it took me by complete surprise. Is there going to be more? I certainly hope so because the ending, in my opinion, is kind of open. Don’t get me wrong, it does end in a HEA, so don’t worry about that.

I should mention there is a lot going on, but the author includes a glossary of characters to help you. Surprisingly, I didn’t have any problems at all.

The banter honestly made me laugh out loud. Harmon nails banter. Every time.

The smidge of relationship angst definitely tickled my appetite.

This was another solid book from a great author.

My only niggle is that some of the ghosts are getting violent now, and that wasn't the direction I thought this series would go. Their mysteries were enough for me, and I don't think the rest is necessary. That doesn't look to change in Book 4.

“For God’s sake, mother. Yes, a serial killer offered me a job. The benefits are great, but the hours are murder.”

Am I the only one who's weirdly obsessed with serial killers ? I love to figure out their minds. Guess I relate to Rain in that way.

It goes without saying this book was also an amazing addition to the series. I love the fact that these books are funny in a one-liner kind of way without it seeming OTT and silly. I have no idea if this is the last one but I wouldn't mind if this series goes on forever. ;)

I'm pretty happy with ending. I didn't expect it at all and it was a nice surprise. This might be my favourite book out of all three just because of that ending.

And once again just brilliant. Even if I have to admit that I was very confused by the case and didn't really get everything. But that's probably down to me, as I've been reading this book for several weeks now and have never really been able to stay with it. Thanks to my stupid brain.
But everything else ... delicious ... gorgeous.
I love Rain and Danny.
Aw, these two are just so funny and cute.

I guess I’m getting better at not waking you up when I get home.”
“That’ll be fantastic, if you go missing. I’ll just tell the cops that I slept through the first forty-eight. You know, because you’re considerate,” he said dryly.
💗🤭💗

I could still picture his flabbergasted expression when I confessed that I didn’t enjoy Star Wars. And his confused response: “Well, why the hell would you sit through ten hours of sequels with me?”
Ten? Was that all? Felt like a Googleplex. “I just like sitting next to you,” I had said honestly. “Didn’t matter what we were watching.”
♥️🫠♥️

“Maybe I could quote some Romeo and Juliet or something.”
“There’s something to be said for the Bard.”
“All right, here goes.” I gently bit at that particular spot on his neck that drove him crazy, worrying the skin there with my teeth. Predictably, he let out a low moan. “Forsooth, good sir. Wouldst thou be so kind as to fuckest a good knight through ye olde mattress?”
He laughed. “And just what the hell version of Romeo and Juliet would that be?”
“The uncut version. Romeo and Juliet—after dark.”

How is each and every book in this series so far, SO FREAKING GOOD?!?

This was the best case yet for me: a serial killer and his missing wife? The hidden bodies of his victims? An absolutely unsettled ghost with more abilities than every ghost before him combined?! Put in a lot more PTU team action into the investigation and I ate it all up!

In general, the ghosts are getting so much stronger (and therefore are creeping me the fuck out lol), so Rain really needs to step up his ghost game - and thankfully he’s got Dakota Daylight to help him with that, who I, btw, ABSOLUTELY ADORE! Does he get his own book? Because I want it! Those two make such a fun team.

I will say, I was not vibing with the blatant miscommunication on Rain’s part in this book, that shit’s just annoying as hell BUT it served its purpose by showing us that they can and will still grow as a couple.
Speaking of which: I think Danny and Rain are THE best established couple I’ve ever read (okay, maybe next to Park and Cooper, iykyk). I LOVE them together, like, so freaking much.

I laughed my ass off (again), I was creeped out (again), and this time I even had to cry a bit at the end there 🥺

I don’t ever want this series to end 😭

4.5 stars. There's so much to love in this series, S.E Harmon is really at her very best with Rain and Danny. 🥰

I love how far they've come in their relationship, I really love them as a couple and I'm very much enjoying them talking about the future. I'm completely in love with Rain's wacky, lovely family *though maybe not his sister's cooking*, and I'm loving that Danny's mom is coming around now. Then there's the PTU family, because in this book, for the first time they did feel like family. There was so much emotion in this story, of all kinds. But it wouldn't be Rain and Danny without all the amazing funny. The banter was always sharp and on point, and Rain kept me laughing even when I wanted to swoon too.

The crimes that Rain, Danny & their unit investigate are always a little spooky, by nature of the way Rain uses his abilities to work the cases and the ghosts that come with that. But for me, this time was just creepier and downright terrifying in places. *side-eyes author 😒* Just in time, it seemed, Rain is finally getting control of his powers. Hopefully that will help him feel like he's in control of it, instead of the other way around.

I loved this so much, and I'm so looking forward to seeing where the guys go from here. Can't wait for more! ❤️

One of my favorite couples! I said it before and I want to repeat it again that Ms Harmon is the best at humorous banter and self deprecating jokes IMO. Some moments made me smile, some chortle and some, honest to goodness, laugh so hard. I loved it. She always finds the perfect balance between funny, a little bit of sass and a whole lot of sarcasm. I just dig it. It's such a pleasure to read.

I like the easy day-to-day relationship between Danny and Rain, how well they work together and how easy they coexist. That said, it's not without bumps on the road. There were some very heartbreaking moments that brought them closer. Even the intimacy between them was fun, spontaneous and super s*exy. The author did a THING. It was scary, incredibly emotional and just perfect as the book's finale. I was blown away admittedly after cussing up a storm thinking the worst. Such an intense moment, I almost cried. A*W*E*S*O*M*E!

The cold cases were very interesting, slightly complicated with good amount of suspects. The story was well paced with police work, evidence collecting and plenty spectral gruesomeness interspersed between Rain's sparkling wit and Danny's down to earth attitude. The family awkwardness and hilarious situations Rain found himself in made this such a fantastic read for me. I hope there will be more of Rain and Danny in the future. I highly recommend it! Copy received for my honest and unbiased review.

4.5 stars

First, HOW FU**KIN DARE YOU! Why would you do that to me! 😭😭 Secondly, I forgive you for making it right lol 😆

This one involved a serial killer, a copy cat and a unfriendly ghost. Of course Rain and his crew at the PTU are right in the middle of it.

I really do enjoy this series. Danny and Rain's relationship is one of my favorites and the fact they continue to grow and progress together is lovely. Their banter is top notch. I can't wait to see more of them... cause their will be more!

This one had a ghost named Joey in it. If he wasn't dead, I'd want to kill him all over for his actions. He was the first time we get to experience a truly violent ghost. What was strange to me, and frankly didn't make sense, was how Joey was such a good person in life yet in death the complete opposite. How could someone so kind be such a dickhead of a ghost?

I found the new aspects of Rain's ability interesting and would like to see where the author is going with that.

Overall, another solid read and I can't wait for the next installment.

Now this is how you do a continuing series.

Three books (so far) about the same couple.
No cliffhanger endings.
No manufactured drama.
No back and forth.
No breakups.

I could read about Rainstorm Moonbeam and Danny forever.

I mean the banter certinly helps.
And I find the ghosts entertaining. Along with all of the living side characters.
The smexy times don't hurt either.

This was fantastic. Everything I didn't know I needed from Rain and Danny and the ghosts surrounding them.

This book starts out where the previous book left off. Or yeah, almost. Rain has decided to see Thomas Krane, the serial killer who only wanted to see him and no one else. This leads him on the road to find said serial killers missing wife. One might think that that's enough for Rain, but no. One rainy night he is visited by a ghost. Joey. Joey can do things he shouldn't be able to do. It doesn't help that Rain looks almost exactly like Joey's ex, Alex.

What follows is a a complex story where everything just might be a little more connected than Rain first thought.

Joey's storyline creeped me out right from the start and it kept me that way through the whole book. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be though, reading some of the reviews.

I can't wait for the next book.

Everything I said in my original review still stands.
Absolutely LOVED everything on the Rain/Danny front, but still wondering about the same plot developments as last time. Also found it difficult to get my head round the whole Milo thing. To me it felt wrong and not sufficiently explained.
But … what a great series!

Original review:

This series has been highly enjoyable so far, and I’m happy to say book 3 didn’t disappoint.

I’ve grown very fond of Rain with his quirky ‘squareness’, his alternative and slightly crazy family and most of all his dry, self-deprecating sarcasm. As for Danny - dreamy sigh...

While book 1 and 2 felt mostly light and more humorous, book 3 has a little bit more serious tone, not only because of scary serial killer Kane, but also because the paranormal element borders on the creepy side.
It was really high time for Rain to finally accept his powers and figure out more how to use them properly. Thank the Gods for nerdy guru Dakota who helps him figure some of it out. (I would love a book about this guy btw!). However, I couldn’t shake the feeling that we still haven’t got the whole picture what Rain can do yet.

Danny definitely should get an award for one of the most patient and understanding boyfriends ever. How you can you not love a guy that swoon-worthy? Thank God that Rain knows that now, and appreciates it. The relationship development here is just what I’d hoped for!
Love those guys – they’re so sweet and hot together!

There’s quite a lot of tension in the plot line, and I thoroughly enjoyed the case although I couldn’t understand why …

I was, admittedly, a bit shocked who turned out to be Joey’s killer. Something about that felt a bit wrong to me. I was equally surprised at the events towards the end of the book. What a finale!

This is a series I will definitely reread.
Love the fabulous humour, the banter, the interesting paranormal element and most of all the two lovable men SE Harmon has created here!

Aww. I’ll never turn down time with Rain and Danny. 🥰 They have become a favorite couple of mine. This one had an excellent mystery with a serial killer. 😱 And of course...ghosts. 👻 There was good relationship development. I don’t always like multiple books with the same couple. Either I get bored or I worry that there will be too much angst. However I have many exceptions and this series is one of them. There has to be progress made in each book and character growth. I get this with Rain and Danny. So I don’t see getting bored of them anytime soon. The humor continues to be hit or miss for me but there were lots of funny moments. The steam was relatively low but what was there was hot. 🔥

Full review to come in next few days.

He was more than just my partner -he was my best friend. I needed that easy camaraderie between us like I needed air.

Rain and Danny are breaking my heart with how good they are together. Every time I think their relationship can’t go any better, they surprise me once more. It was funny how they tried to explain ghosts using science -I was ready to scream at the profanity of the explanation-, then decided it didn’t work (:

I could still picture his flabbergasted expression when I confessed that I didn’t enjoy Star Wars. “Well, why the hell would you sit through ten hours of sequels with me?”
“I just like sitting next to you,” I had said honestly. “Didn’t matter what we were watching.”

Also, the best scene in the entire series. Because FIVE YEARS 🥺🥺

His voice was soft. “I’ve thought about it, Rain. I’ve thought about it a lot.”

Listened to this as an audiobook the past couple of days and it was really fun! I only planed to do an hour or so per day but I couldn’t stop each day I got so into it. I really think I prefer reading this as an audio than reading on ku like I did with books 1 & 2. I am definitely planning to finish the last two as audio. Idk it just made it a lot more fun and I think a lot of the main characters internal monologue jokes landed a lot better listening to them instead of reading them. The final chapter did get a bit ott but hopefully that will set up a good plot line for the next book.

I’m sure Kirt Graves is not among my favourite narrators. I really don’t like the way he gives voice to Danny, he sounds way too much like the criminals and very much without any emotions, and that’s too bad because I love Danny’s dry humour and the way he expresses his love for Rain, and it’s too bad that all falls flat because of the (in my opinion) wrong narrator.
So, still 5 incredible ⭐️ for the story, but a generous 3⭐️ for the narrator*

*original review:*

This is one of those books that you want to read and finish as soon as possible, while at the same time you want it to last and last. I didn't want THE END to show up, because that meant I had to say goodbye to Rain and Danny and I just didn't want to yet. They are possibly my very favorite couple in m/m romance, closely followed by Blue and Kelly, and yes, I'm aware of the fact they all sprung from S.E. Harmon's mind.
She does banter the best. She writes these amazing characters, who, despite the spooky business going on, are REAL. They feel real, their dialogues are real, their chemistry is real. This author has the ability to tell stories in a perfect way, though they are far from perfect. Her writing is absolutely one of the best in m/m romance, it's such a treat to be able to dive into her books! I am already longing for another one, I am that insatiable.

Ok, so on to this book. It's the third book in these series, and I recommend you really should read the first 2 before getting to this one. In this book Rain and Danny are more established as a couple and since there is a whole history about their relationship, you have to read about that first in order to fully enjoy this book.

And then, on to the spooky business.
Since the first book, where Rain didn't know how to handle his skills at all, he has learned a lot. There's also a lot more violence and threat in this book, maybe just because Rain is getting deeper into his skills, discovering there is a lot he doesn't understand, yet, and that he usually just acts upon his instincts. But sometimes something happens that needs a little more know-how and that's certainly something he more than needs in this book.
The cold case of a murdered man connects with another one of a serial killer and while investigating, Rain meets the ghost of the murdered man and he's the kind of ghost he has never had to interact with before. You feel his threat right away, the stalker-kind-of-creepness that makes you aware of the danger that comes with him.

There are fun times too; the interaction between Danny and Rain, Rain's family, the other guys (and girl) from their cold case team. There's still a lot to laugh. Because that's what S.E. Harmon does so well: writing an angsty story, but never forgetting to add a lot of the best humor to it. The on the edge of your seat kind of thing with LOL.

And so now I did finish this book and I already miss Rain and Danny. I really, really hope there will be a fourth book. Because I'm really not ready to say goodbye to them yet.

Oh, and I don't want to give away any spoilers, but that thing in the end, when Rain went to pick up Danny to take him home, after the, you know, incident ,that was just the most beautiful moment, even though Danny said it wasn't right like that. He was so wrong. Because IT WAS!

He pressed a kiss in my damp hair. "Anything that involves losing you is never an option."

Was so excited for this and while I still love the characters and verse overall the book didn't wow me. Been a busy week, I've been overtired, so to be fair some of the downer could be my mood disturbing my reading.

Still love the characters. Danny didn't seem as central and it annoyed me that at this point Rain was still keeping things to himself. I wanted more of them working together.

There was a lot going on with the serial killer angle and another haunting, Rain figuring out his abilities (sort-of), family, relationship ..for some reason I didn't get the expected chills or feels, I felt some story aspects suffered in order to fit everything in. Certain big moments felt contrived. Banter is rife and sometimes overwhelming.

While I did enjoy the revisit a big part of the off feeling this book gave me came from the inconsistancies. The first book in the series had a very wobbly timeline and you needed to not overthink the facts, and disappointingly this third book has a number of details that don't add up, math is the enemy! there's contradictions and some fact changes from previous books. I stumbled a few times while reading. Certain things really didn't make sense.

I'll read it again but no rush, hopefully when rested will like it more. But if there's to be further books in the series will hope their timelines get ironed out.

5 full stars ...

Absolutely perfect book ...
and series. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Wouldn't change a word!

“Danny’s a pretty solid guy, don’t you think?”

I blinked at him in surprise. “The best.”

“If you haven’t scared him off so far, I don’t think you have much to worry about.” Kevin shrugged. “Are you looking for him to promise you forever?”

“Well, it’s in the marriage vows, isn’t it? To have and to hold, to cherish and honor.” I struggled to pull some more vows out of the air. “Til kingdom come, His will be done… on Earth as it is in Heaven.”

I just love this series!

The whole Danny and Joey thing near the end made me cry so much 🥹🥹🥹

The crimes were interesting and so interlinked which I loved.

I'm also finding Dakota to be extremely adorable and now I'm wondering if he has his own book...

Oh how I love this series. Seriously, Harmon's best work so far in my opinion. And this series actually has gotten better as it goes on in my opinion as well.

The romance, the ghosts, the humor, the mystery, it all gels together seamlessly to make a wonderful third installment in this series.

Things are going better for Rain in the ghost department since he set his parameters, until a new one pops up who takes this way too far, way further than any other ghost, and Rain must deal with it and learn more about himself, his supernatural abilities, and more.

Rain is also officially moved in with Danny - and his parents next door to boot - except for he has boxes to unpack, and there's always something that's keeping him from completing the task. It causes Danny to be a little anxious about it, understandably, as well as Rain getting an offer from his old boss to come back to the FBI, and Rain doesn't give an outright no and doesn't tell Danny about it, and sos those things need to be talked about.

But these two are so in love, and it shows. They had their troubles that broke them up before, but they've come back together stronger than ever, and in the end they're able to work through their issues.

Nah, the bigger issue is a ghost. And Thomas Kane, the serial killer Rain has been interviewing, who says he didn't kill his wife or three of his apparent victims. Also, the new ghost is connected to it all somehow, and he was murdered, so Rain is trying to figure out several mysteries at once. It's exciting and interesting and a fun read.

There's a point near the end that things get scary and I was about to lose it, but thankfully it all works out. I won't say more, but just know that you'll know what I'm talking about when you get there, but don't worry, it all works out.

And Rain and Danny move forward in their relationship in the best way, and I so very much hope that this isn't the last in the series, because I want to see these two get their solid HEA. This ended with a pretty solid HFN, but I want to see . Also there was an interesting part in the end that I'm interested to see if it ends there or if there is more to come with that plot thread.

Ah, I just hope there's more! I'm not ready to say goodby to Rain and Danny and some fun ghost murder mysteries.

Highly recommend if you've enjoyed this series so far. Two massive thumbs up from me! ❤️

Still 4 stars

I feel exactly the same as I did in my first review. I love Rain and Danny so much and their relationship has grown and solidified in these books in a realistic way. The mystery was also very interesting and involved and I appreciated that it was more complex than what I usually read about.

I still think the last part of the story was a bit over the top but in a world where Rain can see and communicate with ghosts it wasn’t out of place. I just felt like Rain’s abilities really grew so fast that they seemed a bit out of place, almost jarring. But I know from previously reading the series that there’s a reason. I just thought the execution was a bit out there.

I am enjoying these re-reads though. There is just something so comforting about re-reading a favorite series or book. It makes me so happy!

This has been an enjoyable series, I love the mysteries mixed in with the supernatural. Rain is sarcastic, lovable and funny. Danny is almost perfect with his love and support for Rain. The rest of the characters are funny and make the stories even better.

This book is a bit different than the other two because now the ghosts want more. The main ghost in this book is almost violent and that is new for Rain. It looks like things are going to get worse on that front by the way this one ended but Rain is also learning more about how to vanquish the ghosts.

I have to add a side note about how much I love Dakota! I would love a story just for him.

I enjoyed the mystery involving Joey’s death more than the way Joey acted, especially towards the end. That part seemed a bit too much but I think it was more a set up for the ghost who shows up at the end of this book which is setting up the next story. I am very interested and can not wait to read the next in this series.
