Tending Tara

Rate this book
Can this fake marriage survive real life?

It was now or never for hockey star Donovan Legori. He’d been keeping his head down and his skates on the ice since his painful divorce. Getting traded was the only thing that mattered. Tired of playing back-up— he was ready for a team that would make him a starting goalie. What he wasn’t ready for was falling for his teammate’s spunky sister.

Fiery redhead Tara Laassonen needed a fresh start and a one-way ticket out of Finland. Moving to be near her professional hockey player brother in Anchorage seemed like the perfect escape, especially when his tall, dark and handsome teammate made her forget all about her disastrous break up back home.

Just as things were heating up, Tara found both her heart and her visa on thin ice. And Donovan discovered that a marriage of convenience was anything but easy, especially when forced to choose: Hockey or Tara.

4.5 star Review Tending Tara (Alaska Blizzard #7) by Kat Mizera

It was so good to be back in Alaska with the members of the Blizzard hockey team. This has quickly become one of my favourite hockey series and one I have no hesitation in recommending.

Donovan Legori is still reeling from a divorce that left him disillusioned and is also fed up with being the back up goalie. Now he is looking to be traded so the last thing he expected was to fall for Tara Laassonen , sister of his fellow teammate Miika who wants to stay in the US.

When it is suggested that Tara enter a marriage of convenience, Donovan steps up. However what happens when feelings soon move from fake to real? Can these two admit to the feelings that are sizzling between them and take a leap of faith on love?

The secondary characters as with previous books in the series were entertaining and it was wonderful to catch up with some familiar faces and see what has been happening. This was a great addition to the series and I cannot wait to visit Alaska again.

Tending Tara is the 8th book in the Alaska Blizzard series by Kat Mizera. This is Donavan and Tara’s story. Theirs started out as a marriage of convenience suddenly and quite unexpectedly turned out to be so much more for Tara and Donavan. They had both been hurt in the past by bad relationships which is why they chose the marriage of convenience (well Tara needed to get a visa) but there’s more to this. They have red-hot chemistry and connection together but neither will admit that their MOC has developed into the real thing. Oh what a rollercoaster ride this turned into. I was afraid that Donavan and Tara wouldn't wake up and clue in. They finally woke up in time and it was really great reading them open up and letting down their barriers with each other. HEA at its best!

My Rating: 4.5 stars *********

This one was interesting, from friendship with an attraction to a favor and seeing how things worked out. Tara and Donovan were good together while they lived in the present, as long as they didn't talk about the future or what they really wanted. Maybe that was the way to go with how things started, but quickly both of them grew very real feelings, which left things up in the air and made things a bit uneasy for them. Everything came to a head at the end and not in a good way. It's a good thing that both of them listened to their families and did something about it. I loved how each of them got to know that the other was willing to sacrifice for the other, that what they had was real and now they could live their new truth out in the open.

All the feels! So perfect! This is one of the sweetest stories Kat has written, right up there with Anatoli, Nate, and Ian. From the moment Tara reaches for Donovan's hand after her injury to how they wear their wedding rings, to the last airport scene, readers will be immersed in a warm-and-fuzzy but REAL relationship, even if neither character is brave enough to call it that. 😊 I love how Kat connects her characters; matching them perfectly to complete each other, every time. I also look forward to catching up with the ensemble cast in each story, and there was a lot of that in this one. This one-click fan was thrilled!

I was glad to be back in Alaska with the Blizzards with this new story from Kat Mizera. I get to see some of my old favorites and get acquainted with Donovan and Tara. The female characters this author brings to life are women who are far from being damsels in distress. All the women are fierce in their own way. Tara is no different. Her brother is a Blizzard player and she moves to be close. There is only one problem, she needs to find a way to stay in the states. When an opportunity arises to get some help from her brother’s teammate, will it turn into more than finding a way to stay?

Donovan and Tara’s love story starts off as a marriage of convenience, but turns into so much more. Like always, it’s fun to see all the characters from the previous books again, while someone new finds love. I’d recommend this book.

Tending Tara is the 7th book in the Alaska Blizzard series by Kat Mizera. Each book is a stand-alone and features a different couple. At this point, I do wonder how many more books were are going to get and I hope that at least Logan will get one, preferably with Peyton.

The "teammate/best friend's sister" trope can become tricky because sometimes the teammate/friend can be an a-hole and I was really glad to have my man Mikka in that role. He was actually supportive and offered some solid advice to help our characters and their relationship. I was very happy about that.

I struggled with the first 30% of the book to be honest. I stopped the book at that point, read another one, and then picked it up again. I found the pace to be a little slow for the first third of the book and I wondered when the marriage talk was going to come. Despite my struggle, in the beginning, I never thought of it as something that could lower my rating of the book and it didn't. What did lower my rating was Donovan's career. I don't know if I like the way it evolved or not. It is the best option, but I am not 100% on board with it and it bothers me.

What I did like was Tara and Donovan's marriage and how they fell in love with each other. When the big problem came near the end of the book, I felt like they should have communicated, but I got why they didn't. Still, the way it was handled overall was good and I liked it.

I would recommend the book and Chasing Charli as well!

Always eager for a new Kat Mizera book and it does not matter which series it is. They are all awesome reads and love them all. The complexity of the characters and their situations provides solid story lines and keeps this reader engaged.
Tara and Donovan’s story are unique in that they knew each other but nothing that would have sparked their connection.  They are so focused on their future that they are not living a life. Can these two find a happy medium to live life and focus on the future they want?
Tara Laasonen is the sister to Mikka, player for Alaska Blizzard, who has come to the US to start a new life. She is wanting to stay in the US and is working unofficially as a nanny for 3 families.   Little did she know that she would love her life in Alaska and she doesn’t want to go back to Finland.. There is one little catch…..she wants to stay and get her green card but chances are not looking good of getting one.  Gage has not been able to pull any strings to help with this process, she does have another way to get one…get married.
Donovan Legori backup goalie for the Alaska Blizzard team.  He should be at the prime of his career but sitting on the bench game after game is getting old. He is looking to be traded and be a starter for the new team. Newly divorced, a year, Donovan is not looking for any new relationship and is guarding himself against the hurt from his past.  His teammates have been there for him and he is getting restless.
One afternoon he goes with his teammates and watches a women’s hockey game.  The team is mostly made up of the teams’ wives and they are playing the local college team.  He sees Tara on the ice and is inclined to start cheering her on until she gets hit in the jaw with an opposing player stick. Helping with the injury Donovan is intrigued with the fiery red head.
The two have been friendly and decided to go hang out together.  Quickly things get to a comfortable place and it slips that Tara needs to get married in order to stay in the states.  Donovan agrees but wants to keep it secret.  What can go wrong with this plan?  You are going to have to read to find out. Can they make it work and find love?
As with all of Kat’s book this story keeps the readers engaged because it is hard to anticipate the circumstance her characters find themselves in.  I highly recommend this book and all of her series. Perfect for binge reading.

Tara fled to Alaska to visit her brother Miikka after a bad breakup and decided to stay to make a new life for herself. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like she is going to get the work visa she was hoping for so she can stay.

When he was traded to Alaska, Donovan’s wife stayed behind and the couple divorced. Now even though he loves his team Donovan is looking for a trade so he can be a starter rather than the backup goalie for the team.

With their futures up in the air, it probably isn't the best time to start something, but they cant resist. And when the only way for Tara to stay in the US is marriage, Donovan proposes a marriage of convenience. But what happens when neither want just convenience anymore and want a real marriage instead but are afraid the other doesn't feel the same way?

I really enjoyed this couple. Both Tara and Donovan had been burned and were feeling a bit gun shy about a relationship, but they just seemed to click together perfectly. I loved how independent Tara was and even though she is extremely close to her family, she is her own person. And Donovan was super supportive of Tara doing what made her happy, even when it possibly meant them going their separate ways.

As with any new relationship, they had insecurities and needed to learn to communicate which felt very real and magnified because of how quickly they married. Watching them work through their feelings on their own and with family and friends was both sweet and frustrating at the same time.

It was awesome to visit with the Alaskan Blizzard again as Donovan and Tara skated toward their happy ever after. 4.5 stars.

Donovan Legori is the back up goalie for the Blizzard hockey team. Hockey is Donovan's life since his divorce. He is tired of riding the bench and is looking to get traded somewhere where he can shine as the starting goalie. What he didn't expect was to get knocked sideways by his attraction to a teammate's sister. Tara Laassonen was looking for a fresh start in Alaska with her professional hockey playing brother, Miikka, after breaking up with her long time boyfriend back in Finland. Donovan and Tara know their futures are unclear but can't resist the attraction that is growing between them. When is becomes clear that the only way Tara will get a visa is by marriage, Donovan steps up and offers to marry her. What happens when a marriage of convenience turns into something more? Will Tara and Donovan confess their true feelings for each other? What happens when Donovan's hard work and play gets him traded to another team? Will Donovan ask Tara to move with him, or will he walk away thinking he is doing what is best for her? Will Tara go after the man she loves leaving her life she has in Alaska? I absolutely loved Tending Tara by Kat Mizera! Donovan and Tara are so great together. I love how they dated and continued to get to know each other even after getting married. I also love how other characters from other Alaska Blizzard books are there to give advice and guidance to Donovan and Tara. I would highly recommend getting Tending Tara and any of the other books in the Alaska Blizzard series by Kat Mizera.

I received a free ARC copy of this book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is a new book in the series and features Tara who is Miika's sister. It is book 7 in the series but easily stands alone as they both are relatively new to the series.

Tara has known Donavan for two years. He is just out of a bad marriage to his ex, Jane who refused to move to Alaska. Tara is also out of a bad relationship back in Finland where her ex hooked up with her brothers ex and she has come to Alaska to spend time with her brother, Miika and his new wife, Charli.

Donavan and Tara feel a strong connection to each other and begin to date but she is not sure how long she will be around as she is waiting for a work Visa to come through. She tells him she might have to marry his teammate, Logan if worst comes to worst and thats when he suggests they get hitched.

And so they have a secret marriage but a real relationship and with all the holidays I loved watching both their families get involved. They are really so much fun. Both are happy characters who enjoy fun and adventure and hockey. I really loved watching them get close together and have a real relationship as they supported each other.

If you want a fun and light read and enjoy sports and hockey romances then this is an awesome one. You don't just get men's hockey with this book you also get some women's hockey as Tara also plays on the college hockey team for fun.

Donovan Legori is fed up being the back up goalie for the Alaska Blizzard hockey team and is actively looking to be traded to another team where he can be the starter and really shine. Tara Laarrson, whose brother Miikka is Donovan's teammate, plays hockey and is a nanny for several of the Blizzard families until her visa comes through. But as the red tape seems to be preventing her visa from coming through, it looks like a green card marriage might be the only option. With Donovan and Tara having an amazing connection when they first met, Donovan agrees to marry Tara to help her. But Donovan is recently divorced and Tara is new single with the end of a seven year relationship, so both are a little shy about communicating their feelings and weight wants to admit how deep they have fallen for each other. Then Donovan's trade comes through and he is heading back to Buffalo, where his ex-wife lives leaving Tara back in Alaska, because he doesn't want to ask her to give up her life there. And Tara doesn't want to ask Donovan if she can go with him, because she knows he didn't want to get married again. Can Tara and Donovan realize what they will be giving up before it's too late? Great story.

Tending Tara is a tender and beautiful story about Donavan and Tara.Tara has moved to Alaska from Finland to be near her brother who plays professional hockey for the Alaska Blizzards. Tara’s life is full and she is happy in Alaska; she is making friends, she is near her brother, she plays on a women’s hockey team and she is dating Donavan. Tara is happy in Alaska and isn’t ready to go back to Finland just yet but she needs a green card to get a job and the only way to get one, is to get married.

Donavan and Tara are both still recovering from long term relationships that didn’t work out. They are adjusting to single life and are not looking for another relationship. However, once they meet, there is a spark between them that is hard to resist.

Donavan is a backup goalie for the Blizzard and he is a good guy. I love how well Donavan and Tara communicate with each other. They share a passionate relationship and they are surprised how well they connect in every way. Donavan and Tara are easy to like and they both deserve to find happiness. They are perfect for each other.

I especially enjoy all the entertaining characters surrounding Donavan and Tara, they add another dimension to the story. Tending Tara is an enchanting story.

Book #7 and this series from Kat Mizera is still going strong.
Donovan is tired of being second string, the back up goalie. He enjoys hanging with his team mates but he feels he is ready to move on in his career and bring himself some happiness and fulfillment after his horrible divorce. He feels a trade would be the answer to his aspirations.
Tara had a full and happy life in her native Finland until she found her long time boyfriend with her friend! Tara high tails it to the USA to Alaska to be with her brother and sister-in-law and to hopefully start over. The one thing that she needs, the key to her happiness is a visa, a green card, a way to stay in the states and work.
The answer comes in the form of a friendship with her brothers team mate, Donovan. They enjoyed each others company and decide a fake marriage would be the best way to get her the visa she needs to stay.
What they didn't count on was that friendship can blossom so easily into so much more! This was a sweet story of friendship and the potential for it's growth into true love. If you are looking for something that appeals to your romantic side but still contains some heat to spice it up, this one is for you.

Don't remember the last time I read a "marriage of convenience" story that actually revolves around one of the characters actually needing a green card. In this case Tara (Miikka Laassonen's sister) left Finland and doesn't want to go back. She'd rather stay in Alaska with her brother, SIL, and her new friends, but she needs a green card if she wants to stay and work. In the meantime, she's been hanging out with the Blizzard's back up goalie, Donovan Legori. Neither is looking for a relationship after long term relationships that didn't work out. Donovan offers to marry her, as they've become friends with benefits so and it would give them a chance to get to know each other.

Both of these characters are more interested in their careers; Tara, to get a job and stay in Alaska and Donovan looking to be a first string goalie, even if it means getting traded. They're too busy looking for what they think would make them happy and not realizing what is right in front of them, that actually makes them happy: each other.

I kind of wish that Logan would have given Donovan a bit more trouble just to push those jealousy buttons a little. Especially with him being such a player.

I love catching up with the Blizzard hockey team and I love meeting new players as well as catching up with the team, I have to say this is fast becoming a favourite series of mine.
Donovan Legori is getting over a messy divorce, he has requested a trade but in the mean time he is concentrating on trying to become the starting goalie so the last thing he expected was to fall for a teammates sister.
Tara Laassonen needs to find a way to get a green card or a visa to stay in the US and when a marriage of convenience is suggested it’s Donovan who steps up so what happens when feelings come into play, what happens when Donovan gets the trade he has been waiting for.....
This team is like family, every time I pickup a new book I feel like I’m going home to visit family and friends. The characters are easy to love and relate too, the banter is witty and the chemistry is scorching hot. Tending Tara is a great addition to this series and I really can’t wait for another visit to Alaska and the Blizzard Team. If you love hockey romances this series should certainly be on your radar.

Donovan and Tara have been circling one another for a while now. She is the sister of his teammate, and friend, and Donovan cannot deny his attraction. He is gun-shy after the failure of his marriage so he wants to have fun and enjoy what they have together. That all changes though when he realizes Tara’s best bet to stay in the US is to get married for a visa. He decides since they are already dating it makes the most sense for them to get married (and maybe a little jealousy comes into play too...hmmm??).

What starts off as a marriage of convenience turns into a relationship anyone would dream about. Donovan is attentive, caring, romantic and the compatibility in bed between these two is off the charts HOT! If Tara and Donovan can get past their previous heartbreaks, they have a chance to have it ALL! When circumstances change end outside forces cause some major decisions to be made, these two must admit, to themselves and one another, that love can take over much faster than they ever imagined!

4 1/2 STARS!

A marriage of convenience turns all too real in the latest in Kat Mizera's Alaska Blizzard hockey series! In TENDING TARA we get to enjoy a connection between Miikka's sister Tara and his teammate Donovan and it's a lot of fun. The storyline is complex with baggage coming at them from all directions, but the relationship between them is super sweet and steamy as all get out. I enjoyed them!

Tara is a bit of a wild card. She's independent and self-sufficient but she's quick to decide a man is her answer to all of her problems. I didn't agree with all of her philosophies, but overall I enjoyed her.

Donovan was a sweetheart. He was hurt in the past and wasn't too sure about giving his heart away again, but he was all in on helping Tara out when she needed a quick husband.

I recommend this book and the entire series to anyone who enjoys a close knit hockey team who are their own little family as each one finds their happily ever after.

Donovan is a member of the Alaska Blizzards and although he is happy there what he really wants is to be a starting goaltender so his future with the team is uncertain. He may be attracted to Tara but due to his past he doesn’t believe his career and a relationship will work but when she needs a husband he is willing to be that man.

Tara came to Alaska to be near her brother but with every passing day her chances of remaining in the country diminish as well. Romance hasn’t been kind to her the past either but the best way to ensure she can stay is by marrying a citizen and Donovan is willing to be that man. It isn’t long before their arrangement starts to feel genuine but will the challenge they face bring them closer or tear them apart?

After being hurt in the past both Donovan and Tara are cautious but I really enjoyed seeing them open their hearts to the future they could have together.

This one is a bit different.

Tara is Miika's sister and has come to the US from Finland to start a new life. She's met the guys on the team before but nothing ever transpired. Now she is here loving life in Alaska but can't stay without a visa or green card. She is working on it but not getting anywhere. When it is suggested she marry one of Miika's teammates the last person she expected to marry was Donovan

Donovan the hot, sexy goaltender has been through a marriage and divorce when his wife wouldn't move to Alaska. As the backup goaltender he knows he should be a starter somewhere and is having his agent put out feelers. When Tara needs help and says Logan will marry her he won't go for that.

Will these two admit their true feelings and make this marriage real or will their pasts and a potential trade get in their way?

What would happen they started to fall in love?

Donovan Legori wanted to be traded by the Blizzard so he could be a starting goalie somewhere else, but meeting Tara Laasonen helped to change his plans. Tara wanted to stay in Alaska instead of returning to Finland after her tourist visa expired but the only way was getting married. Donovan and Tara had serious attraction to each other so maybe there could be a friends with benefits green card marriage. But when their hearts started to get involved would they change everything?

You have a friends with benefits, green cards marriage and especially falling in love with the person you married for a green card!

Tending Tara is the seventh book on the Alaska Blizzard series, but all the characters are like family to each other which I love and makes it more enjoyable to read!

I have been patiently waiting for this book since meeting Tara in Chasing Charli. There was just something about this fiery red head that peaked my interest. Though I wasn't expecting Donovan.

I really enjoyed this book. There was plenty of heat and a little drama. I admit I was expecting this to play out a little differently, especially with all this talk about ex's, but in a way I'd glad that the author wrote it the way she did. Communication is key, no matter what type of relationship you have. That is one thing these two had a hard time with. I loved them though. I loved watching their love develop. I loved how Donovan stepped up when Tara needed him. I loved how Tara supported Donovan. Getting to know these two was great and I hope we have more to come from this team, this family.

I really love this series and this was a great installment. I loved Donovan and Tara. These two are just getting know one another when Tara needs a marriage of convince to get her visa to stay in the US. Now a situation neither were seeing in their near future quite yet is where they find one another. You can instantly tell these two had more than just chemistry going for them. They have an easy way with one another and they have a true connection. Just has they find their footing fate throws some curve balls their way. Tara and Donovan are cute together and they just fit like puzzle pieces. I also loved catching up with previous characters in the series. It made so happy to see their families expanding with babies. Made my heart feel full of happiness. I recommend this one or any of Kat Mizera's hockey romances!

This is the 7th book in this awesome series and Donavan and Tara’s story is a perfect addition to this series. Donavan has been through a painful divorce and is looking to get traded as starting goalie instead of backup. Tara is feisty and independent, and she has moved from Finland to Alaska to be close to her bother Mika. When Tara wants to stay in the US Donavan stands up and agrees to a marriage of convenience so she can stay. Both characters have more than their fair share of emotional baggage, and what happens when feeling change to more? This is a well written story which is sweet, fun, entertaining, emotional, and a steamy all-consuming read. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

Tara is living with her brother Miikka and his wife and working as a nanny for his coach and teammates while waiting to get her visa approved. Donovan is a teammate of Miikka's with his eyes on a starting position perhaps with another team. They are attracted to each other, but both are coming off of bad breakups. With the visa process not going the way she hoped, Tara turns to Donovan to be able to stay in the country. What quickly follows is a marriage of convenience. As Donovan and Tara spend more time together, it becomes more than either of them expected, but the road to their potential future does not run smooth.

I loved Donovan and Tara and as always, it was wonderful to see the other characters in the Alaska Blizzard pop in to the story.

Donovan is the backup goalie for the Blizzards and is desperate to be starting goalie anywhere. Tara is sister to Miikka who plays for the Blizzards. She left Finland in hopes of making a new life and is hoping she can get a green card allowing her to stay in the US and work so much so she has even considered marrying the Blizzrads playboy, Logan, to get it.
When Donovan hears of Tara's idea to marry he jumps in and offers. Having liked her for a while he can't let her get away but is this marriage of convenience the best way to date?!?!
They talked through the basics but forgot the big stuff and when a trade comes up Donovan panics and leaves. What does this mean for them, is it just a green card or could it be more

Loving the Blizzards series almost as much as the Sidewinders

Kat Mizera hits it in the net with TENDING TARA (Alaska Blizzard #7). In this story, back-up goalie Donovan Legori is ready to be a starting goalie, even if it means getting traded. Meanwhile, Tara Laassonen needed a green card to stay in the U.S. with her NHL star brother, Miikka (CHASING CHARLI, Alaska Blizzard #6). As Tara’s and Donovan’s feelings for each other grow, things become complicated when Donavan might get what he had been hoping for. This contemporary sports romance is suitable for adult readers.

I enjoyed this novel. We got to know Tara in Miikka’s book. I loved hearing her story. I like that Tara plays hockey, and that she had that in common with Donovan. The two are good together. They both have long term exes that hurt them and caused some insecurities. It makes them assume things that are not true. The characters are both easy to like and relate to.

The story could be read as a stand-alone, but it does include characters from the previous books. I do recommend reading them in order because it is a great series. TENDING TARA is skillfully written and entertaining from start to finish. It is a wonderful addition to the series. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

Another fantastic read from Kat Mizera! Whether you are a fan of the Alaska Blizzard series or reading as a stand alone you will not be disappointed. Donovan and Tara find themselves attracted to one another and then just as quickly in a marriage of convenience. Tara and Donovan both had bad relationships in the past and were both working through feelings. The best part of this book is how much the other characters support, love and care for one another. Tara and Donovan both needed to be pushed to see their truth. I love how much they love one another!!! I love the whole universe Kat creates and every time I finish a book I want to jump right back in.

A Kat Mizera book is a guaranteed great reading experience - wonderful and amazing characters, some emotional angst to pull at your heartstrings and keep you on your toes, fun storylines and plenty of romance.

Tara and Donovan have both been hurt by their past relationship and neither one wants to make themselves vulnerable even though their marriage of convenience to get her a visa has turned into the real thing. Neither of them fess us to their feelings so misunderstandings and mistakes happen, but no relationship is without some obstacles, right?! How do these two work out their relationship when it appears to be impossible?

I love Kat’s books and will continue to get excited for each new release! I received an ARC from the author I am voluntarily leaving a review.
