The nature of the game has changed. But my feelings for my guys haven’t.
As the search for Kieran intensifies, the battle between us reaches its pitch. And in every fight, Brutal shows up to win.
My silent, savage love has his own reasons for starting this war, and nothing will get in his way.
Something we have in common.
I will defeat the undefeatable Brutal. I’ll bring him into my loud, chaotic world and make him mine.
In spite of the Kings.
In spite of Kieran.
In spite of the ledger.
Brutal will bend his heart to me.
I’ve never lost a fight either.
Brutal is a dark contemporary why choose romance. This is book three of four in the series and features language, dark themes, and sexual scenes. If you're cool with that, dive in!
Ruby Vincent is a published author with many novels under her belt but now she's taking a fun foray into contemporary romance. She loves saucy heroines, bold alpha males, and weaving a tale where both get their happy ever after.
Brutal pointed between us, closed his hand, and placed the fist over his chest. Again, he pointed at me, then him, and traced my lips.
This was so good and I can’t start reading Mercer fast enough…that cliffy😱 Finally bringing the opening chapter of Saint full circle.
I would never have expected Brutal’s story would be my favorite but it so is. That not to say he’s my favorite because, yeah no one can top Saint. I didn’t realize how much I miss the focus of the story being on him until we get to a scene with him and he steals the show
”No, Redgrave. I don’t walk down hallways imagining the people inside.” “Oh. Okay,” I whispered. “Because I don’t have to imagine.” He pointed to apartment 126. “In there, a devastatingly beautiful woman who knows one hundred and fifteen ways to bone a duck and a man, is cooking dinner with a reddish-blue-haired kid.” “What’s Dad doing?” “Polishing the cuffs he’ll use on her that night.”
But back to Brutal….the connection between him and Adeline is just so special. Coupled with his tragic backstory and his present day struggles, I felt so much for him, and the predicament he found himself in. I’ll be honest, this book did take me longer to finish because it wasn’t as action packed. I needed to slow it down and appreciate the character development. But I still loved it nonetheless. At first I was annoyed with Brutal’s refusal to speak but the more I learned about him and then understood what he was trying to communicate to Adeline …ugh 🫠🥹💔❤️
There’s still the underlying plot of Kieran and the Ledger. While we knew right away why Saint and Cash wanted it, there was still a mystery around Brutal and Mercer. I’m loving the breadcrumbs Ruby is leaving about their secrets, saving the best for last with Mercer….
”There are times when that’s exactly what the truth is: poison. It erodes people’s faith in you. It stops them seeing who you’ve become because they can’t see past who you were.”
However, what I hated and why I didn’t give this 5⭐️ outright is that bitch Gianna. I’m so perplexed at Adeline’s behavior and insistence that she not be killed after everything she’s done to her. That cunt is CRAZY. 🤡
Hopefully Adeline’s keeping her around will end up in some kind of plot twist before she kills her, like Adeline’s true backstory from the first book. 🤞🏻
The ending prior to the cliffhanger was EVERYTHING💯
”But.” He pointed at me and him. “You make me.” Fist. “Want.” Baris traced my lips. “To speak. “You make me want.” He put his hand on my heart. “To love.” Lips trembling, I watched him repeat the signs he made so many times before. “You make me want.” Baris placed a fist over his chest. “To live.”
At this point I'll finish the series to know how it ends, but I have to say, this series lost me when they did the U-turn on Addy and made her this ridiculous wannabe badass. Basically, she uses everyone around her for her own good, whines when things don't work out and is ready to sell out everyone if need be. Her BFF turns out to be neither B, F nor F. And I have to say I don't know what it is with this series and the complete butchering of female characters. I am truly annoyed.
Just when you thought theSaints and Sinnersseries couldn’t get any BIGGER, BETTER, EXPLOSIVE and MIND-BLOWING! Ruby Vincent comes through yet again, with delivering to us the third bookBrutal! Starting a couple of days after the cliffhanger inCash.Brutalis told through dual POV by Brutal himself and Adeline.
The silent enigma that is Baris ‘Brutal’ Kainalu Alexander may be a man of few words, however his mind is the opposite. With so many thoughts, opinions and theories being exposed to us. Through his mindset we are able to delve in deeper into what Brutal thinks, feels and makes him tick. They say the quiet ones are the ones with the most to hide, and so far I would definitely believe that is the case when it comes to him. Throughout the story Brutal is unravelled with his layers being pulled back slowly but timely to a certain pace. Showing us there were more sides to him then meets the eye. And just because he didn't communicate it aloud, didn't mean it wasn't still there. From his thoughts alone, you could tell he had so many emotions and feelings that were connected not only to his past but present too welling inside which he tried to keep hidden. With this Ruby was able to keep me gripped on tight to the story, like being on a rollercoaster ride falling further into the never ending deep drop that leads to Brutal! It also made it kind of enjoyable, seeing the unique way Ruby would tease us by showing us short and quick randomly placed flashbacks of Brutal’s past that would come and go. They definitely lured me in even more with intrigue. Peaking my curiosity now more than ever with wanting to know all and everything that there is to know about him! Especially when it came to the mysteries surrounding him and his secrets. Leading to some shocking information involving a surprising connection to Adeline's father, Oscar Redgrave. And an early on meeting between Brutal and Cash mentioned in a flashback. To say I was astonished by these tidbits is an understatement.
Adeline, Adeline, Adeline…what can I say? Just when you thought you knew and learned everything you could about her. She proves you wrong by wrecking your mind with even more information she gives in regards to the full backstory and history involving her father Oscar Redgrave, Gianna Cross and her father Soren Cross. Leading to exposing the truth in regards to Kieran and the connection he had with her family. Giving us a further and deeper insight of how they all knew each other and were connected. Given what happens between her and Gianna, she was definitely tested a lot in this story. Mostly when it came to her loyalty. Leading Adeline to not see everything clearly, by not always trusting the right people or seeing what was right in front of her. Ultimately paving way to her not always making the best and/or right decisions that needed to be made.
This has to be said, but I absolutely hated Gianna! I shouldn’t be surprised though, just because something had nagged me about her in Cash. Telling me to be cautious and weary of her. Something I was right in thinking, considering what she did to her own best friend/sister Adeline!
The banter chemistry between Brutal and Adeline is everything and more! You would think there wouldn’t really be much there when it came to banter, since Brutal is a man of few words. But there was so much, not just from hearing his thoughts with his answers to Adeline. But the way he was able to communicate through body movements and facial expression, most of which she was able to acknowledge and understand what Brutal meant by those gestures. I loved that regardless of him not talking, Adeline would still communicate with him despite not always getting a response. There was definitely a strong bond between the two, proving their chemistry wasn’t just physical. But that they had a deeper connection to one another. With that said, their physical connection DAMN somebody crack a window! HOLY HECK it definitely had you melting like a popsicle on a BURNING HOT summers day! The way Brutal was able to obliterate and shatter Adeline at the end of all the times they came together in their LUSTFUL, AMOROUS, RAUNCHY, HOT-BLOODED passionate moments. In which he definitely put his mouth to some use. If not for talking, then for making sure to have Adeline coming apart at the seams every time they fought like animals in the heat with their sexual moments.
With all the information that is given, revealed and uncovered, it leads to a lot of previous mysteries being solved by the secrets that were exposed, leaked and/or disclosed. But at the same time, more mysteries materialise leading to a whole load of new questions with some still not being answered by the end. Ruby Vincent definitely took me on a seriously CRAZY, MIND BLOWN, THRILL SEEKING and ADVENTUROUS rollercoaster ride with all the twists, turns, loops and drops in this ACTION PACKED story that was Brutal! Given some of the plot twists! Even more so, with the chaotic adventures The Merchants and Adeline travel on, while playing crazy games to acquire what they wanted and needed to try and stay in the known and on the game that is within Cinco City! All leading to a FREAKIN' AMAZING story that kept you on your toes at all times, with never an insipid moment. This book had me totally invested just like the first two booksSaintandCash! Gripping on hard, I was sucked into the vortex that was this story. Absorbing every single word, sentence and page with everything that was said. Being cautious and weary in making sure I never missed out on anything that would help me continue to piece together this insanely twisted and intricate puzzle when it came to the labyrinth that is The Merchants, Adeline, Gianna, The Kings, Kieran and The Ledger in the complex world of Cinco City! Ruby Vincent definitely continued to have me hooked, lined and sunk into theSaint and Sinnersseries.
HOLY FREAKIN’ MOTHER CHUCKER HELL! Ruby absolutely obliterated me with that MIND BLOWING, EPICALLY EXPLOSIVE ENDING/CLIFFHANGER! It definitely blew the previous two cliffys fromSaintandCashto shame! With that said, now more than ever I CANNOT WAIT to see how the story will play out in the final book from theSaint and SinnersseriesMercer! BRING IT ON! Because I am already ready, waiting for it impatiently!
*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Finished after a couple of months long pause 60% in. The first two books were great, this one kind of boring at times, but picked up in the end with few plot twists nobody expected, which is why I'm going to finish this series and read Mercer's book, especially after that cliffhanger lol
I liked Adeline more in previous books - Sinjin's book is my favourite, but in the sequel we learned so much more about her. Brutal's book is not as exciting since Addy isn't in the center anymore or in control. And I really, really dislike Gianna.
Whew, this was a wild rollercoaster ride beginning to end. I never took the time to consider that there was a good kind anxiety but I really started to think on it after this book. When I tell you it had me on the edge of my seat and constant state of adrenaline rush, I mean it. I’ve become so invested in these characters and seeing them get through their troubles is the most satisfying experience. I have to say Addy is going on my list of favorite fmc’s, she’s just everything love about an fmc and that includes being charmingly crazy. I love that in every book we are able to see into the minds of each man they are titled after and I really enjoyed seeing her and Brutal truly connect as I did with Saint, and Cash. After reading I’m excited to read Mercer’s book, out of all the guy’s I’ve connected with him the least so I do hope this changes once I’ve been able to delve into his mind. Honestly, I would wholeheartedly give this book a 10/10 and I would even go as far to say when it comes to romance Ruby Vincent killed it. This has to be my favorite of all her books.
What did I just read? Goodness. These books are addicting. I need more. More answers. More of these characters. More of this story. Brutal is book 3 in the series, and books one & two MUST be read first. The search for the ledger & Kieran is heating up, When the Merchants are backed against the wall, they come out swinging. Brutal has never lost a fight, and he won't start now. With so much uncertainty between everything, can the Merchants and Adeline trust each other, or is the secrets they are after in that ledger enough to tear them apart? I am still at a loss for words. I am loving this addicting, dark, twisted series and cannot wait to get my hands on the last book, and find out more. More about the characters, the story, the secrets and answers. I need it all. Everything from crazy wild Saint, to calculating analytical Cash, to controlled silent Brutal to sexy, sly Mercer and to wildcard Adeline. The unpredictable leader, the brains, muscle and sex. The Merchants who don't give up or give in. 4.5⭐ out of 5⭐ and still reeling from that ending.
I loved reading what went through Brutal’s mind and learning more about him and what he’s been through. This was definitely one that had me on edge wondering what was going to happen next. Don’t even get me started on Addy’s best friend honestly after the things see did I don’t know if I could want to try and fix it or not. I can’t wait to read the next book especially after that cliffhanger.
Another end that has me looking forward to the next and final book. Though I will say I didn’t enjoy this one as much as the previous two and lots of that had to do with the plot twist that takes place fairly early on. I was pretty blindsided This time around we get more information on who Brutal is and what his backstory is all about. It’s nice to put pieces of his puzzle together but I hated how he got dragged into a stupid gang/fight-club drama. Forced to fight in unfair no holds barred death matches, Brutal goes head to head with legit psychopaths that he’s often set up to lose against. I found this book to be a quicker read only because there was some more action and a whole lot of tension keeping things moving along. This damn magical ledger continues to do exactly what Adeline warned it would and at this point I’m hoping someone just destroys it for good. Looking forward to Mercers book next, seems this man of mystery has been hiding an even bigger secret and I need some answers!
There is so much that I love about this series...Cinco City, the Merchants, the insanity of the city and the dynamics of all the gangs, the crazy skills of all the Merchants have and so much more.
The best thing about this book was the opportunity to finally see inside Brutal (Baris)’s head. He’s the epitome of the strong, silent type and I was so curious about his backstory, what he was trying to clear from Kieran’s ledger, and why he chose not to speak. Thankfully, we get answers to all of those things and so much more about him. His story is heartbreaking and so unexpected and he’s put in impossible situations over and over throughout this story, causing him to rely on his Merchant brothers and his love for Adeline more often than not. I really do enjoy his connection with Addy - their ability to communicate and understand each other even without words is so sweet.
BUT, this book has one major downside - the relationship between Addy and Gianna. I have never been more irritated with two female characters in my life. I wanted to like them after how well they meshed and worked together in the first two books, but the twist in this story made me want to rip my hair out. After everything that Gianna does to Addy and the Merchants, Addy still is trying to salvage their relationship? It feels insane to me and it really turned me off to both of them throughout this book.
This whole book was full of craziness, but the last chapter was insane. So many things happened in such a short amount of time (some expected, some totally unexpected), that it definitely ended on a high note. And can we talk about the cliffhanger?! Who the heck is Mercer Santos? I can’t wait for the next book to finally find out!
Yeah ....fuck Gianna. Im super disappointed in this turn of events. I was so happy to finally see a non toxic, bad ass female friendship. But Gianna had to fuck it up. Was not down with that storyline honestly. Feels like HUUUGE betrayal, dont know how theyre going to get past it, which im looking forward to seeing in Mercer.
Overall love Addy and Brutal as a couple. Story and plot wise, theres just alot of action, almost wish I could watch this as a NETFLIX show its that good. But of course as mentioned Ruby Vincent is not great with the steam, theyre always rushed and with practically no details. It always bugs me, and this being considered a reverse harem, I was hoping for a moresome....? But guess not? If youre looking for some major steam you wont get it with this one. Its mostly fade to black. (Also if some people consider this steamy…than I must be reading PURE SMUT) because this doesnt do it for me at all. I need descriptive details when it comes to reading lemons.
Im mostly reading this for the story, just wish I coulda had both!
This book was good - my favorite of the three-book so far and I think that's because we know the characters much more. I don't know if I am going to read book 4. I thought I would enjoy four books from each male's perspective but I'm yearning to learn and interact with all of them throughout every book. Killian and Brutal are the main players in this book and I would have liked to see more Saint as he was the one taken with Bunny and it was like he didn't exist anymore.
The plot twists were good but I just don't know if I'm in it anymore.
So 17% in and I’ve decided to call this series quits.
I just can’t read it anymore.
The relationships (not just the guys but also with Addy’s friend Gianna) have just gone so far out of the ball park that it’s laughable. I can’t get on board with it.
There’s a lot of repetition in this series, they basically just lock each other up all the time. And I just don’t buy into their relationships anymore… they don’t feel real in any sense.
I wanted to THROW my kindle reading this one!!!! This book ticked me off so bad. So of course EVERYONE needs to read it. All I am going to say is this one has some real good twists and the unexpected unfolding. That is all!! I recommend this book and series. Thanks Jamie Nibarger Ellis
I like Brutal the most of the guys. He is such a teddy bear 😍 This book made me warm and in spite of the shit happening there around Addie and Brutal, I loved it.
This book was so good! It was mainly all action, and we immediately picked up where we left off in the last books. I love that the boys can't break her even though they try. I love that she's just honest with them and that they still accept her. I love that her dad finally gives up information that he has in order to help them find the ledger. I love that the boys finally meet her dad, and Brutal finds out the truth about his sister. I hate that Adeline is betrayed by her best friend and that she is hurt by the people she loves. I love that Brutal finally got his voice back.
I really liked this book. While it wasn’t my favorite in the series, it did have its moments. The characters were, as always, so amazing and real. I love each of them dearly and there were a couple times I teared up because I got all in my feels.
My only complaint for this book would be the pacing. At times, things felt like they were moving at a snails pace just to fill time. I wish things would have just gone down a little bit faster.
2.5 Sorry, compared to the first two, this book was slow and boring. Not to mention, it's Brutals' book, but I feel like I learned nothing. The flashbacks were necessary, but I wish I knew more.
I'm in shock. Shooketh to thy core. WTF. That ending came out of nowhere and omg I'm just lying here blinking because OMG. Another great read. This serious is a firm favourite now. It just keeps getting better. That plot twist/cliffhanger was insane and now I'm desperate to reread the prologue of Saint to try and make sense of it all. Absolutely loved seeing inside Brutal's head. He is such a sweetheart and he almost broke my heart right down the middle. I hope Adeline gets her happily ever after, I really really do. Can not wait for Mercer. I'm gonna be a crazy conspiracy theorist until I get my hands on it!
I wanted to like this more than I do, but it was still good writing and the plot keeps you on your toes. I love the world building of Cinco City.
Adeline is a character that is interesting. She’s a brilliant psycho but also I feel like she came off as a little naive when she’s not been written like that. I didn’t love that she kept asking Brutal to tell her he loved her, and she’s been the one to say it first to all the guys. It almost makes me feel like the relationships haven’t developed as much because it feels like she projected onto them so much. That’s a me thing though.
As other reviews mentioned though, the Gianna and Adeline relationship was weird. I get that you’re best friends and practically sisters but babe this is toxic. Gianna didn’t have redemption in my eyes. And Adeline so blindly accepted her back with no qualms. I hated the twist to begin with and I just didn’t love how Adeline reacted to the betrayal. I was with Saint on this one.
Being inside Brutal’s mind was nice since he hasn’t spoken before. I really felt for him. I loved seeing his growth. The set up of these books feel like we don’t get to see the other guys as much, though. There’s a lot of week time jumps too, so it feels like a lot of the day to day and relationship stuff is off page, to the extent that sometimes it felt like relationships were developing without us seeing it.
While not my favorite in the series, I still enjoyed this book and am enjoying this series. I can’t wait for Mercer’s book after that cliffhanger!
Almost immediately into the start of this book everything changes again. I am completely surprised at the turn this story has taken. Ruby is a freaking genius! I am so totally invested in these characters and story. Of course, the cliffhanger was "Brutal" in a totally different way than the last two books. I absolutely can not wait for the final book in a few days.
I never finished this book. I just feel like I pushed myself to read this book and the first two, when it didn't really sit well with me. I actually started this series thinking it was going to be urban fantasy, and instead was surprised by the mafia themed drama.
This series is dark, and I felt it bringing me down. I enjoyed the first 2 books to an extent, but reading this I felt a lot of resistance to finishing it.
I like Brutal's character. He is an interesting guy, and I thought this would be my favorite book. He's certainly my favourite out of all the guys, but this story is frustrating and hard to read, and to be honest, I just wasn't feeling it.
