Laxmaner Shoktishel is a satirical comedy written by Sukumar Ray (father of Satyajit Ray) Sukumar Ray was a Bengali humorous poet, story writer and playwright who mainly wrote for children. Born in Bengali family on 30 October 1887 to Bidhumukhi and Upendrakishore Ray, Ray is a second child of six and illustrator of literary nonsense and nonsense rhyme in Bengali literature. He formed the "Nonsense Club" and the "Monday Club", the members of which included some of the young artists, writers, scholars and critics of that time. His works such as the collection of poems Abol Tabol, novella HaJaBaRaLa , short story collection Pagla Dashu and play Chalachitta Chanchari are considered nonsense masterpieces.

About the author

Sukumar Ray (Bangla: সুকুমার রায়) was a Bengali humorous poet, story writer and playwright. As perhaps the most famous Indian practitioner of literary nonsense, he is often compared to Lewis Carroll.

His works such as the collection of poems Aboltabol (Bengali: আবোলতাবোল), novella HaJaBaRaLa (Bengali: হযবরল), short story collection Pagla Dashu (Bengali: পাগলা দাশু) and play Chalachittachanchari (Bengali: চলচিত্তচঞ্চরী) are considered nonsense masterpieces equal in stature to Alice in Wonderland, and are regarded as some of the greatest treasures of Bengali literature. More than 80 years after his death, Ray remains one of the most popular of children's writers in both West Bengal and Bangladesh.

He was the son of famous Bengali writer Upendrakishore Ray Chowdhury and the father of the renowned film-maker Satyajit Ray.

অনেকদিন আগে সত্যজিৎ রায়ের পরিচালনায় সুকুমার রায় কে নিয়ে বানানো একটা ডকুমেন্টারি দেখেছিলাম। সেটায় অল্প একটু অংশ ছিল লক্ষণের শক্তিশেল নাটিকাটি। ইশ! সৌমিত্র! আহারে তপেন! কী অভিনয়! 🔥 আজকে আবারও সেটা দেখতে যেয়ে মনে পড়ল নাটকটার কথা। ফলাফল আরও কিছুক্ষণ সুকুমার সমগ্র হাতে নিয়ে হা হা হি হি করে হাসতে হাসতে গড়াগড়ি খাওয়া। আর আফসোস একটাই.. ইশ! পুরাটা নাটক যদি পরিচালনা করতেন সত্যজিৎ 💔

একী হেরিলাম দুচোখ মেলিয়া!
হাস্যরসের তুফান লেলিয়া,
অমৃতসম কমেডি চরণ,
হৃদয় আমার করিল হরণ!
জাম্বুবানে হানে সংঘাত,
লক্ষ্মণদেবে হলো অপঘাত,
রাবণ বুঝি হলো চিৎপাত
হেসে উঠি মুই ভুলি জাতপাত?!
রামায়ণ বাণী করিয়া শ্রবণ
কলুষ মনে হলো বর্ষণ
পবিত্র এক রসধারা,
সুকুমার,তুমি সু-কুমার হয়ে
সাবলীল দিয়ে যাও বয়ে
দুখী মনে কী আনন্দধারা!
শক্তিশেলে হোক কী ক্ষতি?
নাটক পঠনে দিয়েছি মতি,
অপার প্রতিভা,সৃজ অপরূপ,
পুরাণে তব রচিছে গূঢ়
ধৈর্যে বীর্যে আছে মহীরুহ
রামায়ণে থাক নিশ্চুপ।
আমি তবে যাই লইয়া বিদায়,
হরষে মজি মরি হায় হায়,
আজ তবে থাক ইতি টানি-
ছিলেন যে এক সুকুমার রায়,
লিখেছেন তিনি নিবিড় ছায়,
অমর এ সৃজনখানি......

রামায়ণে রাম-রাবনের যুদ্ধের পূর্বে লক্ষণের সাথে রাবনের যুদ্ধ হওয়ায় লক্ষণ আহত হয়। রামের যুদ্ধশিবিরে রাম,সুগ্রিব, হনুমান,বিভিষণসহ উপস্থিত সকলকে নিয়ে সুকুমার রায়ের লেখা হাস্যরসাত্মক নাটিকা ”লক্ষণের শক্তিশেল”।
সকলকে পড়ার আহ্বান রইলো।
