WWIII wasn’t what any of the analysts expected. Across the globe, battles raged. Taiwan fell. Fighting continued in the Caribbean and South America. The Russian Far East had invaders, and nobody seemed able to stop this new Red Army.
With the world in chaos…
…it was hard to unravel the pieces.
Would one U.S. pilot give them hope?
On the first day of the war, his F-22 Raptor was shot down over Cuba. Lieutenant Colonel Ian "Racer" Ryan survived, escaped, and now had the Air Force’s 6th generation fighter under him. Would it be enough to outsmart the Chinese AI defenses?
Was this the turning point…
…or the end?
You’ll love this third book in The Monroe Doctrine series because the stakes have gotten higher than ever and it will keep you on the edge of your seat.
The 3rd book of the Monroe Doctrine continues with the series' fast-paced, multi-theatre storytelling. Importantly, even though you're shifting quickly from place to place, you never feel lost. Everything is knitted together quite nicely. If you like battle scenes, this book is chock-full of them. Land, sea, and air scraps are all present and are compelling.
The near-future weapons that are featured in this third book are well done. The AI baddie remains a really neat part of the story. I'll confess that the level of AI seems a touch advanced considering when the events in the book are supposed to happen. The same is true for some of the new weapons platforms the authors introduce in this volume. Setting aside this timing issue, the weapons are super cool and aren't far-fetched (outside of their timing). These things could actually come to be, just 8-15 years down the road.
One other quibble. This book didn't have the level of political machinations featured in the first two volumes. I love a book that has a good balance between politics and fighting scenes.
But overall, volume three of the Monroe Doctrine is a terrific, tight, well-written near-future military thriller. I would strongly recommend it.
Interesting plot but too many characters and too many battle scenes. The first two books were better. I ended up just skimming a lot of this book and was anxious to finish it. Would not recommend.
The mindset from standard news talking heads, the government and places like this book show the complete cover-up of the truth. When Castro took over his country he was not a communist. He was not some illiterate terrorist He was college educated and a lawyer fighting for his peoples freedom. His country was rules by Batista a thug who fled Cuba when the USA TOOK HIS money THEN REFUSED TO deliver the arms they promised (that was a goog thing). BUT THE COUNTRY was run on one side by the American mafia and production by American companies ie dole, coke etc.they treated the people as slaves with no regard to human life.that is why Castro took they're factories and forced all Batista people to the main land (that was the Cuba boat boat exodus, these people were not refugees they were the ones complicit in enslaving the people. Coke to this day is not allowed in to Cuba because of their brutality. The Cuba embargo was not because Cuba was red or sack ding the people it was for reestablishing slavery on the people. The USA force Castro to the communists side plus our few attempts to assinate him.HE DID NOT STEAL FROM USA COMPANIES AND GANSTERS HE TIOK BACJ WHAT WAS HIS PEOPLES AND WE PUNISHED HIM FOR IT
this book is getting further into science fiction of the future
This book III in the series is getting further into the realm of science fiction future war. This is usually where I usually stop. Getting into these types of genres always seems to me as lazy writing, although, brilliant imagination, it still seems like unrestrained fantasy and wild conclusions, killer robots, aliens, Star Wars, Battle Star Galactica, Terminator style as such, with on the fly writing and storylines going where ever which way, never had a realistic line to follow.. but with that said, I feel the lead up story to a possible IA take over in this series is spot on and should be considered as a future issue. The way the plot is laid out for such a possibility is a little too accurate and disturbing, because the real life strategy of the armed forces and generals that direct the war effort is spot on, it makes it believable and the AI advantage would be a possibility, and this day and age, at this time being used, is a little spooky, to say the least. This book series research is extremely accurate and current, also spooky.
Book Review – Monroe Doctrine III – James Rosone & Miranda Watson Unfortunately, “Monroe Doctrine III” by husband and wife writing team James Rosone and Miranda Watson was probably my least favorite of the eight book techno thriller series. All the other books were fantastic. Although the plot and storytelling in this narrative were good as usual, the futuristic science fiction battle scenes and advanced technological weaponry were a little ‘too’ farfetched for me. Rosone and Watson lay out an intense near-future war scenario that is very scary and very plausible, but again, maybe it was ‘too’ sci-fi/complex for me. I’m just not a huge science fiction aficionado. I like cool technology, especially in military weaponry, which this book has, but not too far advanced to where it seems unrealistic, impractical, or too complicated - at least to me. I prefer reading about a human intellectual military strategy and tactics oppose to an Artificial Intelligence (AI) enhanced military scheme and implementation. That’s just me. Again, Monroe Doctrine III is not a bad read if readers prefer sci-fi military techno thrillers. I’m just not a futuristic science fiction enthusiast.
World War 3 might be over in a day but not always. It is the power with the best economy supporting the best military. How the West will get there behind the curve, a good question.
Rosone and Watson have painted a war in Caribbean and South America with very believable characters and situations. It is very true that because the US was fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan where SAM threats were both real but negligible, SEAD missions and ground artillery went by the wayside. Suddenly, the Ukraine-Russia war brought back the need to deal with integrated SAMs - multiple radars, missile batteries, and AA guns. Suddenly, sending in F-15E Strike Eagles and F-16 Vipers the way we did in 2003 made no sense unless you deal with them first.
In this book, it is true that the US and its allies needed to adapt and adapt quickly, especially fighting a near-peer or or even more advanced enemy. That was what the Russians faced in 1941; except for the T-34 tanks, Soviet Army soldiers had outdated equipment and no leadership. In a war of survival, the USSR needed everything badly - new tanks, trucks, equipment, and above all, leaders.
This was an exciting author that I was turned onto by a Facebook group that I had joined back in the summer, Military Thriller Book Group , and when I had researched the author...he had reached out to me and had asked me to check out this latest series (and I am glad that I did !!!).
This particular volume detailed the interaction of the American military and the combined armed forces of China and Venezuela as the war of attrition that had been wargames out by the superior Chinese AI, Jade Dragon. This book also introduces the reader to the American Space Force.
This was another exciting chapter in a World War III tale, spliced with a minute amount of (potential) sci-fi, that reads as though it might be ripped from the headlines. I believe that this novel would be enjoyed by an action or international intrigue afficiendo and would easily rate this book a solid five stars out of five.
As with all my literary ramblings, this is just my five cents worth.
Unlike the first two books, this is really a transitional volume, preparing for the direct confrontation between the US, its' allies and the Chinese. China's Air Force Navy and Army have been involving in the American retaking of Cuba, El Salvador and most of Venezuela, and the battle for Caracas is about to take place. But the US/Allies Armed Forces have take a beating and unlike the Chinese had not been preparing their industries for years to prepare replacements.
JD (jade Dragon) the Chinese AI has been given permission to implement some of it's more deadly ideas (some of which scare even the Chinese Joint Chiefs of Staff). Based on the way it presented some of its' ideas it appears that JD want to take control of the whole war using its' own unmanned army and air force. So we are beginning to see what the omega of this war will be (a battle of mankind against JD).
I love reading James Rosone and Miranda Watson's books they always are action packed and thought provoking. The Monroe Doctrine series is about the Chinese creating an AI call Jade Dragon that learns as it goes and has come up with a plan that will defeat America and Europe and make China the only Super Power. Volume 3 has the Allies slowly regaining some control but at a great cost. The Allies take Cuba and El Salvador away from the Chinese dominance. The fight is tough in Venezuela but the Allies are moving forward. In the western Pacific it starts heating up the combined Navies of Korea and Japan are devastated but they also effectively destroy the Chinese Northern Fleet. China also has designs on Eastern Russia and the Allies know this and start sending troops to Siberia. Absolutely a most read that love a good political/military thriller.
Occasionally I stumble across a book in series that I haven’t started and I’m very hesitant to jump in without any foundation in the story line up to that book. Monroe Doctrine III is one of those books, I took a leap of faith and jumped in the deep end and I’m so glad I did. This is one of those war stories where the action is all realistic and plausible – no fantastic stuff or weapons that sound unbelievable. The characters are so lifelike, every one of them is flawed in their own ways which makes them all that more believable. You can bet I will be sitting down to binge read the first two installments in this series in the very near future. I received and Advance Reader Copy of Monroe Doctrine III and chose to provide my honest review.
Been waiting for Part 3 from pre order. Read this book in 3 sittings. Only stopping for comfort bresks. Wow, what a ride. From page one till the last word I was totally gripped. Without giving any spoilers if you weren't frightened or wary of the advent of A.I in your life, you'll be terrified after reading this. This completely changes the world as you know it, it's not science fiction it's tomorrow's world. Truely mind bending. The action scenes are so real, you can smell cordite, you hold your breath don't blink then turn the page.
The mark of a great book in a series is the last page. If you curse when it's ended, the authors have done their job. Leave you panting for more.
Monroe Doctrine Volume III James Rosone Miranda Watson
World War III? The final chapter. China is attacking on numerous fronts. America and it's allies are on the defense and holding their own. New types of weaponry are being introduced by both sides. A new stealth fighter of remarkable capabilities we have recently deployed. China is understandably worried. Their AI called JD is not. The computer is cold and calculating with no emotion or feelings. This is even disturbing to the Chinese leaders. They appear to be very wary of this computer, artificial intelligence that could possibly control them . At this point a credible scenario. Another excellent read in this series!!!Enjoyed immensely!!
There were still some good scenes, but the series is losing some steam and my interest is waining in this third iteration of the series.
The first two volumes had a very nice mix of politics, war, battles on land, in the air, and at sea.
This volume seemed to concentrate on land battles with a few other scenes added. For me, the land battles are the least interesting part of the series. There were almost no scenes with the American President nor of the Chinese leader.
And, as always with this series, I HATED the ending. The volume just stopped . . .
I don't know if I will bother with another in the series. Each volume seems to be less interesting and there is never any resolution.
I just finished reading this entry of the series, and it literally has me on edge. Granted, this is fiction, but the way the authors have written it, this could very well be our coming future! Especially the end meeting, once JD was formally introduced!!! Words cannot fully describe the level of dread you'll feel, knowing that this particular scenario is well within reach. In any event, another great entry for this series, I'll purchase the next two books right now, and preorder books six and seven as well. No idea how much longer the authors will keep this going, but at this rate, I don't want it to stop!! I feel this could be adapted into a live action series and would do extremely well with viewers!
This story is written very well. I really enjoyed reading the descriptive battles. The writers knowledge of Military equipment, strategy, and political socioeconomics is very impressive.
China is becoming a world power, and the hope that they would soon choose to be a democratic society is dead. Their success at stealing Western military technology and their growing military presence has been terrifying. We do not live in a modern time as long as authoritarian governments with fake democratic titles still exist. This story could be our future war with or without AI support. JUST READ THE SERIES-you won't regret it.
Just when you think it couldn't be done, it is. As a loyal reader of this could series, I've commented that each book was better than the one before and that was starting with a very high level. This book is so great at organizing and presenting the different type and level of unit from all sides. It gives the reader a clear understanding of the reasoning of the individuals and groups within each section and how they relate to the others as the plot progresses. Keep up the outstanding writing
China has now entrenched very well with Venezuelan forces and is also supporting the separatist forces in Columbia. The US and NATO allies are now trying to overthrow them from the American continent. And in the process, the US unveils the generation 6 fighters. Now it will be interesting to see what steps the Chinese AI - Jade Dragon or JD takes to counter this. With time it seems the AI is becoming too powerful and to me, it seems like by the end of the series it will do something which the Chines themselves are not going to like. An excellent continuation of the previous two volumes.
Maria Delgado is elected President and walks into WW3 . Elected on bringing America back domestically. But with C byhina using AI Jade Dragon to prosecute the war. Delgado has taken on war as whole problem of her administration. Blank Wilson who is her NSA from the prior administration is her only close friend. So as Jade Dragon matures and presents itself as a autonomous robot shocks the Chinese leadership. This series is excellently written and well thought out. 10 stars plus!!!! Thanks, Carl Clause
Another great novel following on from the first two. I know it can't follow all the threads in this world wide setting so only a few of the various scenes are tracked. They are explained in a very detailed manner, giving the reader a sense of being with them, even feeling what the characters do. As the story has developed, all the specific characters (that is, the ones who are still alive) are supplying more and more of their emotional make up. Which helps us understand why certain decisions are made. Looking forward to reading the next volume.
A quick-moving plot really helps the overall storyline move along at a decent pace. It picks right up where the previous novel left off. A new country to scout for a possible invasion, throw in some new sci-fi technology superweapons. Along with an AI that has dreams of being human and is heading down the well over-used "Terminator" storyline. And you have not a bad read for a rainy day and some time to kill.
So I’m an avid Rosone and Watson reader and you should be too. We’ve got a solid mix of small unit action, tank warfare, Ariel and naval engagement with a good mix of strategic level updates. A solid mix of characters new and old yo love who are believably portrayed. Our arms race continues and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Listen I can’t recommend reading this book enough and I can’t wait for book #4.
This read has been a fast paced continuation of this series. Like my old favorite Tom Clancy, you hate to put the book dow and always have to read the next chapter, then the next until you have gone way beyond what you have planned to read at this sitting. I find myself reading till 1 AM when I had only planned to read till 11:30. Great story line and very plausible actions in today's computer world and possibly our near future. GREAT JOB !
First off, kudos to the author, for naming one of the generals Bob Sink. Many band of brothers fans will know him as he regimental commander of the 506 PIR, parent organization of easy company.
I’m impressed with the level of knowledge the author has of the various weapons systems utilized by both sides during this war. I’m really impressed with the involvement of the space force.
The war rages on. The United States and it's Allies continue to make gains in El Salvador after securing Cuba. In the meantime the planning for the invasion of Venezuela continues. I would have given five stars except I felt there was too much focus on details of combat and not enough on the politics of the war on both sides. That being said I enjoyed the book and look forward to reading the rest of the series.
This book continues the series and it is SUPERB!!! The creativity and attention to detail are outstanding. The combat scenes are detailed and realistic. I actually used Google Earth to help visualize the terrain of the battles. The authors reveal more of the “big picture. “ This could very easily become our future unless the leaders of the world are very careful. I can’t wait to read the next book
I was a big time Clancy fan. I loved his style. Now, you bring back the excitement and depth of understanding of "modern " military. The total picture of every side and the New the of action is wonderfull. Thank you for bringing back that style of writing. I appreciate your in depth study! of the modern military. Simply amazing. I love your style.
After reading this, I’m thinking about the Forbin project. Colossus and the Russian computer taking over the world? It’s certainly appears that JD is headed in that direction as he did finally tells a group of Chinese generals that he is not only the future of modern warfare, but is in fact the future. I am really really I’m getting more excited about this series and I cannot wait until I read the next book.
I finished it, but it took a super effort to do so. It just wasn't very interesting. For example, we got caught up in the details of street fights in South America using weapons that are unfamiliar. Too many characters and too many battle scenes that resulted in not much. This 9.7 hour book could have easily become 1.5 hours. I'm wondering if I should return it to audible.com for a refund because subsequent volumes are in question for me.
I am captured by this story of War designed and set in motion by Artificial Intelligence, machine learning, and the reality of “I Robot” becoming a human fashioned War of the World, where the humans are displaced by Cyber Kinetic War Machines and Robotic Soldiers with A-I, but without heart or values for human life. Intriguing and Dangerous Close possibilities.
