Okay so, I read this with a partner about two months ago and we both hated it, though she rated it a three out of five this is my review- look for Sarah Kenklin’s for a nicer one lol.
Also I’m sorry this ended up being so long.

/<🧋 here’s a snack.
With that being said, I had to do a lot of research for this review, so I went to the authors Wattpad, and even her website. I say this to say, I feel like I deserve this rant.
I hated this book so much- and I honestly think that this review would be too long if I said everything that I hated about it so I’ll just put why I took off every star and sum it up.
Before I will say the things that I liked:
1. I LOVED Mecca. She was written very beautifully.
2. The whole idea of the awakening- and the vampires coming from the shadows and taking over the wild. An even darker part of me liked how they recoded the entire thing I, though that was hilarious and petty.
3. The overall storyline was very well paced- I basically flew through the book. I do still believe that it could have been like two hundred pages shorter though.
4 And I mean, atleast she wrote a book right? I’ll give any author that much. ESPECIALLY self publishers, that really takes blood sweat and tears.
That’s all I have to say about things that I enjoyed. Now, onto why I hated it.
-1 star for punctuation and grammar. Definitely needed a beta reader or professional editor. I also think that it was really ironic that the author thought using asterisks to censor curse words would do something- because she then goes on to write out really explicit grape and humping scenes. ‘Twasn’t a fan.
-1 this book needed a full page of trigger warnings. Within the first five chapters you are introduced to a whirlwind of abuse, sexual abuse, and pedo behavior( I will get into that later).
- 1 because I said ‘So Vampire Diaries?’ like three too many times.
-1 For Claire. She was insufferable. Though I gave her a ton of lenience, she is technically a child in a world full of over emotional adult men who pretend they know what they are doing.
-1 for the boarder-line Pedo behavior and abuse. Other than the fact that I thought we left 18 year olds dating ancient men in 2013, It said at one point that Nicklaus saw her file and knew that she was his beloved as soon as he saw her picture, which was crazy to me because then I had a flash back of him slinging her around on that stage. Then the little bit where Jadis was given to that one king as a child but they still hump like rabbits??
And Xander and her mom??
Also -1000 for grape for shock value still being a trope because what were those humping scenes?? I’m not a grape victim so I may be reaching, but there’s no way in HELL, beloved or not, you are going to let someone slam into you like that after having been graped and abused for YEARS afterwards, EVER even, not like a week later (and that’s if I’m even getting the timing right it really could have been like three days).
-1 I hated how POC were treated through out the entire series (From what I’ve seen so far), and is one of the biggest reasons why I absolutely will not be staying around to read any of her other books. As a black person I feel like the author either hates herself or other black people.
The POC women are deemed as plot villains. And I say plot villains because they are only villains to further the plot. Mecca, (also, ain’t that name a bit insensitive?) for example.
Mecca was literally tortured for the better part of a century by Claire’s bf, TOLD CLAIRE THIS, and Claire was like ‘Damn that’s tuff…..’ then pulled the betrayed card when Mecca tried to kill her for becoming a Vamp??
Also the others usually act the way they do because they are trying to survive??
King Cyrus from what I’ve seen told his black counter part she was going to be queen (From what I’ve seen, I only skimmed I was too angry to actually read.) just to be like sike. And I know Aubrey or whatever ended up being his Beloved, but he didn’t even tell her (the commander and his ex, I can’t be asked to go find her name again), she had to find out through the grape vine and I mean, who wouldn’t be mad??
And the Lycan queen literally was at war, why would she be nice to Claire? Or Embry for that matter?
And a personal gripe I have, why are the kings of Asia, Africa, and South America Caucasian?
I cant be asked to remember the rest just go and look at the casting the author has on wattpad it’s ridiculous.
- Don’t even get me started on Baretta. She sucks! Fu*ks! And fights! You better not forget that! Because she certainly won’t let you, promise.
-10000000000000000000 because she gets pregnant. That actually hurt my soul. I was like “poor baby.” Referring to Claire AND the baby(ies?).
And I know that that is a lot more than five stars, the math definitely is not mathing but I don’t care. I got angry while writing this. Don’t read this book if you are looking for a serious book. Let alone the series.
