Fletcher is the “World’s Worst Boyfriend” and I have the trophy to prove it—along with the consolation gift card I’ve already spent.
Entering him into the anonymous contest was cathartic and eye opening. It’s obvious I need to end this farce of a relationship… so, I do.
Too bad I’m still comparing every man I meet to Fletcher. Too bad I can’t get him out of my mind—or my house, for that matter, with the way he’s always stopping by to ‘fix’ something. And it’s especially too bad that I’m learning not everything is as it seems, and that maybe, just maybe, Fletcher had a good reason for his actions. (Although, there is no justification for the moldy laundry.)
What’s a girl to do? He says he’ll explain everything soon. But am I ready to face that explanation? What if he’s really not the worst—what if I am?
A romantic comedy adventure to make you laugh out loud!
I had a gut feeling this was going to be a dud and of course, I was right on the money.
This ‘romantic comedy adventure’ didn’t appeal to me. The supposed chemistry between Saidy and Fletcher was non-existence and based on their personality/character traits, I couldn’t fathom how they could have ever worked. I didn’t like this couple whatever so please tell me I wasn’t the only one who felt this way.
Besides the characters—the story wasn’t anything to write home about and the overall writing style was off putting. I was more entertained by the synopsis than the book itself.
So worth the read? No. I would not even recommend this place to my worst enemy.
After finishing the second book, Rook to King, I decided to go back and read this one again.
This is a fun romantic suspense type story. I liked the characters and the storyline. I like that the H/h have already been dating when the story starts, but things aren't going too well for them. You don't see that much in books, so I thought it was a fun dynamic to explore. I liked how much Saidy grows throughout the story, and Fletcher too and how their relationship develops.
I wouldn't really call this a mystery, that aspect of the story is not the main focus. I really liked "Sullivan" in the second book and was surprised by how different he came across in this first book. It was fun seeing a bit of his back story though.
Overall, I think this was a fun and entertaining read. Unique, fun storyline and a good set up for the second book.
Content Rated PG Clean romance, kissing. Mild language and mild violence
This is the 3rd book in a series and is told from dual POV. It's a second chance rom-com with a mystery twist. I like rom-coms a lot but I usually prefer a bit more angst to them. To me the characters seemed a bit bland and the story wasn't very compelling. I didn't particularly like any of the characters, not even the secondary ones but the mystery was a nice touch. I would recommend this as a beach read as it is light and fluffy.
***Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review
I have received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
World's Worst Boyfriend was something. In it, you will meet Saidy and Fletcher. They are dating... sort of. It's safe to say that Saidy is completely fed up with her boyfriend due to his flakiness. I mean, there's a ton of red flags in the beginning but it also seems like we don't have the full story either.
Honestly, I would definitely not put up with any of the shit she did. Dropping off his dirty laundry? Shoot, I'm not your momma buddy. Do your own laundry at your own place. Ghosting on date nights? I'd ghost him myself after the first time. There's more red flags too so when I say that Saidy wasn't having it anymore - I meant it.
She was so angry with him that she actually entered Fletcher into a competition - World's Worst Boyfriend. It wasn't surprising that she won but it did make me laugh when Fletcher was upset about it. Oh buddy, no, open your eyes.
Remember how I said we didn't get the full story? Well entering into Fletcher's POV, we definitely get why all the red flags were popping up. It just doesn't help his situation because it takes him forever to tell the actual truth. So, yeah, I can see why they were so frustrated and how communication wasn't their strong suit.
Yet, I ate up all the tension filled moments between them as well. I definitely had a like/dislike with these two and everyone else in this book. Even after finishing it, I'm not even sure how I feel about this. Like it was okay and had some cute moments.. but I wasn't in love with the couple or the book at the same time.
I've been seeing this one all over the place and I'm a total sucker for fake relationships and romantic comedies. Jumping right in, I was in for some big surprises...and they weren't at all bad! First off, this isn't really a fake relationship story, but there are fake parts to the relationship. Secondly, this is a RomCom with a twist! Like a cola with a shock of lime and coconut lurking within the cup. The suspense angle not only helped propel the plot, but it was as refreshing as an ice cold drink and had me eagerly gulping it's contents.
Fletcher was yet another surprise! He was a mysterious character in one of the other books in the series and I can't even say how much I adored him in this one. I loved that Fletch and Saidy were already together and the events that happen to earn Fletcher a "prestigious" nomination were hilarious.
Not only did this story have laughs, but there were some intense moments and swoon that make this book stand out from the rest. Taylor has a knack for bringing multiple elements in and tying them up in a neat little bow.
Content: mild romance; mild moments of danger/peril; mild+ language

Saidy has had enough of Fletcher standing her up on dates and ignoring her calls and texts. In addition to his dirty laundry that keeps showing up in her home, she feels she's the only one putting any effort in the relationship. When she enters Fletcher in a podcast contest for world's worst boyfriend and wins, it solidifies her decision to break up with him and start the healing process of her broken heart.
But Fletcher doesn't seem to get the memo that things are over as he continues to show up and fix little things here and there, making Saidy more confused than ever. When she meets a good looking stranger who shows interest in her, will she be able to finally close the door on Fletcher for good?
Told from dual POV's, even though Fletcher has been forgetful, tired, and works long hours, you feel the love he has for her. Despite the breakup he hasn't given up hope that Saidy will take him back. Although Saidy is trying to navigate being solo and focusing on her career, she can't shut off her love for Fletcher. This book is a fun, lighthearted read and I look forward to reading more from this author.
Thank you Netgalley and Carina Taylor/Victory Editing Netgalley Co-op for the opportunity to read this book.
Our heroine is sure she has the worst boyfriend in the world. And a lot of people agree. She even gets a trophy. But…we only have the story from her POV. We begin to see that there are other things to consider. Although I think just a wee bit of honest explanations would have made their relationship stronger, it was a cute romcom
I received a free e-ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review!
This is more 3.5 stars than 4.
This book was so ridiculous.
I honestly thought this was a normal rom-com going on, and within the first few chapters I knew I'd stumbled into something seriously different from what I was expecting.
It was seriously feel-good and and light-hearted, and had just the right amount of serious bits mixed in (which were few and far between) to make it into a mood lifter, but nothing more than that. I am glad that this was a short book, because I didn't know if I could take any more of the ridiculousness.
This is a problem I regularly face; I like stuff that's crack-fic like, but I can't take it in large amounts. So ridiculousness is okay, just in pinches.
There were a few problems I had with this, one of the biggest was the attitude of Fletcher. I found him very insensitive in places; for example, he was adamant that their growing apart did not exist, and when Saidy called him on it, he refused to believe her. And then kept on like that.
I didn't like that Saidy ended up taking much ore of the responsibility for their growing apart and breaking up than I felt she should have. Fletcher didn't think from her perspective at all. He more or less just cannot see that from her side of things, he was being seriously neglectful.
Even with the excuse he had, it just didn't sit completely right with me; why start a romance when you can't be honest with her at all?
Another thing that didn't completely sit right with me was Fletcher's somewhat entitlement (I'm not completely sure what to call this). When he was broken up with her, and she had made it pretty clear she didn't want him near her, I didn't like the way he would just keep showing up without her notice, and then behave seriously overprotectively.
While that kind of behaviour is completely swoon worthy when you know who the final love interest is, if this had been an actual ex boyfriend who kept popping up and touching her at times and then refusing to let go, not giving back his keys, and sneaking into her house at all times, regardless of whether his intentions were honourable, this would have been a very different story.
I was really shocked by the mystery plotline since I was just not expecting anything of the sort, but it wasn't completely boring, and it was definitely funny to see Saidy stumbling over clues and whatnot.
The villain was so bland though, and with like zero motivation by the end of the story, which made the ending kinda underwhelming. But, by then I was ready to be over with this because my crack limit had been reached.
On the whole, a very funny and feel-good romance, but not one to be taken very seriously, and with a spot of mystery thrown in. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a lighthearted pastime, and something not serious, who likes second chance romances and secret identities.
I haven't read a romantic comedy for a bit and this was a nice change. Saidy is a great character and I really felt bad that her boyfriend wasn't valuing her and made her feel unimportant. Fletcher bugged me a bit and I thought he wasn't understanding of Saidy's feelings, but he had sweet moments where I could see why Saidy loved him. Their dynamic was funny and of course it had a nice happy every after.
Fletcher may have reasons why he misses dates and can't tell Saidy everything, but he didn't try to explain at all and if a guy stood me up on a date multiple times I would have already dumped him. Saidy put up with a lot from Fletcher and is a great woman who deserved more. Luckily, Fletcher has redeeming qualities and does his best to show Saidy that he loves her. Overall they fit pretty well together and I did hope they could work things out.
This is light and quick, perfect for a weekend binge.
World’s Worst Boyfriend is the third in the Fake It series, but it can be read as a standalone. It is a very light-hearted romantic comedy that is a nice escape and provides some entertaining twists as everything is not as it initially seems. The title immediately made me chuckle as there are days I swear my own boyfriend would quality, just like I am sure I would qualify for the girlfriend version on other days. The title and concept is very relatable, especially when some couples have been quarantined together with stay at home orders during the pandemic and I am sure there are many couples (not even limited to straight couples) where you would love to nominate your significant other for this award – and feel like you would win.
Saidy is an interior designer/decorator who has been dating Fletcher, an IT professional, for four months. They each fell for each other almost immediately and greatly love each other. The initial part of the story focuses on Saidy, so the reader can see why she believes Fletcher qualifies for the prize of Worst Boyfriend. There are forgotten dates, he is not present as his work takes priority, and he is a flake. It becomes apparent that maybe it is best for Saidy to move on. The only part I did not agree with is that the podcast that hosted the contest told its listeners that they should always come first. While in most cases this could be true, I personally would not want to be put as a priority if it means that something important is dropped for my sake. If the words aren’t taken at face value and instead it means that the communication makes you a priority, then I agree. If something important comes up and I am pushed to the side, then it is fine as long as there was communication to explain. Every person/character is different and can interpret the idea in their way, so it was interesting to see how Saidy wanted to be the priority in Fletcher’s life where he could answer every call, if needed, show up to every date, etc. If this is what she wanted, then I could not fault her for it.
The chapters then change to Fletcher’s point of view and the grand reasoning for his behavior all comes to light. It call becomes clear to the reader why he would be the worst and you start to root for him because you now have an understanding. As the chapters rotate between the two characters, the reader finds themselves caught between the characters as you can easily see both sides of the argument. These two characters were ones that could not let go and it was difficult for them to move on. Instead, they pined for the other while Fletcher kept trying to win Saidy back and show that he could change while trying to reveal the reasons he was “bad” in the first place. In most situations, I would find it annoying that neither even attempted to move on, but, given the situation that caused the breakup and the secrets behind it, I did not mind it. I found myself rooting for the two of them to get back together and to finally open up for everything to come out in the open.
The story develops very well as it sets the stage with Fletcher and Saidy’s relationship and all of the problems that would win her the award. It then goes in to the truth about Fletcher, so the reader starts to see his reasons. It navigates to Saidy’s decision to break-up with Fletcher because those around her confirm that maybe Fletcher isn’t for her, even though she is not sure she is 100% ready to give up. The story moves on to both of them trying to balance between their want to get back together, but their hestitations. Add in a huge mystery twist element that is revealed to the reader very early on, then you have a very entertaining tale that progresses well from start to finish. It is not the story that I expected once Fletcher’s secret comes out, but I enjoyed how everything was tied together.
I am not quite sure about the laundry aspect as I am not sure Fletcher’s secret made up his reason for Saidy to do his laundry for him, but I was pleasantly surprised how this second chance romance turned out. I loved the reason for Fletcher’s behavior in the relationship as I went into this expecting it to be just his personality and he would reform. The addition of the secrets for it was a fun twist. I did not find myself finding a huge amount of depth in the characters as they were semi-surface level. However, I felt that they fit the story and the author focused on the mystery elements that was the actual cause of the break-up and possible reasons for any reconciliation. I love that there is also a look into friendships with Saidy’s friends Andrea and Zoe and what it actually means to be a true friend. I loved the dive into long-term friendships do not always mean that they should be forever if the friendship is no longer working for one or both. It was another fun surprise that I was not expecting in this novel. In any relationship, trust and communication are keys as it should never be just one-sided. This main lesson is covered in more than one way in this story. In one word, this story would be described as fun. The story is light-hearted with characters that are entertaining and a story that is amusing. This is my first read by Carina Taylor, but I do not believe it will be my last!
**I want to give a special thank you to Netgalley and the author, Carina Taylor, for a review copy of this entertaining novel. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.**
A big thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this new novel by Carina Taylor!
I couldn't put World's Worst Boyfriend down! This is the first book I've read by this author, but apparently this book is the third in the Fake It series (but can be read on its own).
Saidy and Fletcher have been dating for about 4 months, but it seems like the relationship is one sided. Saidy feels like she is the only one putting in any effort, but that effort is going unnoticed. Fletcher is distant, missing dates, and forgetting important details. After feeling frustrated over his actions, Saidy jokingly enters him into a podcast's contest for the World's Worst boyfriend...and spoiler alert: she wins a big trophy for Fletcher's shortcomings.
Fletcher may not be who he seems (which is definitely a good thing), and we eventually learn more about where he has been...but right as Saidy breaks up with him for not being invested in their relationship. Although Fletcher is busy and has a lot of pressure on his shoulders, he continues to show up at Saidy's house and other places to show he still cares. Eventually, the truth comes out and the couple realizes they both had room to grow in the relationship.
It was unique to have both Saidy and Fletcher's perspectives throughout the book! Carina Taylor does a great job balancing the novel with the dual perspectives, and this element added to the characterization of Saidy and Fletcher. I felt like I had such a good insight into both of their personalities, which is why I loved both characters. There were some funny moments, and the pace of World's Worst Boyfriend made it a fun, quick read. I definitely recommend for your next beach trip or if you need a cute pick-me-up book to get you out of a reading slump!
Carina Taylor always writes such funny dramatic stories 😂 I’ve already read West’s and Bodie’s stories and those were both great as well! Danger mixed with hilarity makes for a super entertaining read 😁
After having been stood up one time too many, Saidy had done had it with her subpar boyfriend, Fletcher. Later that evening while stuffing her face with carbs, Saidy comes across a competition to see who has the World’s Worst Boyfriend. Naturally she entered Fletcher. Was it petty? Maybe. Was it uncalled for? Oh, he definitely deserved it! Did she win? Umm, duh! Of course she did 😂
As soon as I heard Fletcher’s side of things, it all made sense. Did that excuse his behavior? 100% not! There were so many things he could have still done to have been a better boyfriend. And then the fact that he tried to blame Saidy too!! I was NOT okay with that at all! So with that being said, I was NOT a fan of Fletcher at all.
Saidy’s grandma was seriously so funny 😂 She could barely tolerate anyone but then of course she loooved Fletcher 🤦🏻♀️
I started reading the ebook and then finished it with an audiobook. I thought the narrators did a great job!
I don’t know what I was expecting but it wasn’t this. The beginning was interesting but the more I read the less interested in the book I was and towards the end I was skipping pages to get to the end sooner (and the book is already quite short). There was no chemistry between the main characters and I didn't feel their love at all. Neither Saidy or Fletcher were especially likeable either so that also made this harder to enjoy. Honestly, the synopsis was more entertaining than the book itself. I don't think reading it was a waste of time but I was hoping for more.
Thank you Netgalley and Carina Taylor for this ARC in exhange for an honest review!
This was a really nice romantic comedy. I didn't expect the plot of this book at all which made the whole story even more fun and entertaining. I really liked both main characters and their relationship development. Saidy and Fletcher's relationship is a beautiful example of the highs and lows that a couple can go through while dating.
A second chance romance. A decent look into love languages and expectations from a partner.
From just reading the description, I found the heroine annoying and downright bitchy. And even immediately, with no communication and all righteous indignation, she cemented herself as a shrew. Yes he wasn’t behaving his best, and you find out why it was secretive, but she never even bothered to ask or be there for him.
No steam, barely even a make out. Maybe 4 kisses in the book total.
I had a lot of fun reading this one! It was flirty with some good chemistry. Light, easy reading with lots of smiles along the way. Content: mild swearing, kissing
Always be open & honest in a relationship, secrets always come out in the end!
This was another new author to me & I loved this book, it was so much fun to read! It's part of a series, but can be read as a standalone. Lighthearted, feelgood romantic comedy perfect for me after reading several heavy books. Relatable, likeable characters, loved their imperfect relationship & the banter between them. Perfect, if not slightly predictable ending, but overall this was an enjoyable, fun read with an air of mystery.
Saidy & Fletcher have been dating for several months, he means well, but trying to keep his 'real' career as an undercover police officer is proving to be difficult, so much so that Saidy decides enough is enough & ends the relationship. After entering him into the World's worst boyfriend competition, which he wins, they begin to realise they were meant to be & this is their journey! 🏆
Many thanks to Netgalley for my ARC in return for my honest review.

***Thank you to NetGalley and Carina Taylor. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. All opinions are my own.***
Simply put, this book was not for me. I didn’t mesh with the writing style at all. Saidy was bland. Fletcher was overbearing, and because of his job, selfish and unreliable. Their conversations were repetitive. Even though Fletcher was trying to win Saidy back, he called her a spoiled princess multiple times. This didn’t sit well with me because he knew she wasn’t. She was only asking to be treated with respect and kindness. While I liked the premise, plot-wise the story felt flat. Saidy never really tried to get over Fletcher, and Fletcher made a pest of himself at every opportunity. Saidy’s friend Zoe was no friend at all, and I found her annoying and mean. The same goes for Saidy’s grandmother. I didn’t find the part of the book involving Fletcher’s undercover work very adventurous or compelling. I thought the ending with Sullivan strange and unsatisfying. The summary called this a “romantic comedy adventure” and it fell short for me on each of those fronts.
This book sounded so charming. I loved the idea of a woman learning to appreciate the boyfriend she had written off and seeing all of the ways he shows he cares. That is not really what this book is about. This is about a woman, Saidy, who justifiably feels that the boyfriend who neglects her while dropping off his dirty laundry for her to do is not a keeper. You are supposed to empathize with Fletcher because he is keeping this big secret from her that supposedly justifies his behavior, But honestly, nope, The way he handled Saidy wanting to break up rubbed me in entirely the wrong way. Meanwhile almost everyone else in Saidy's life is terrible so how is she to know what a healthy relationship looks like? that. Add in some unnecessary flashbacks in the beginning and plot choices that had me shaking my head throughout and we have a book that I honestly am not sure I would have finished it I had not been given a copy in exchange for an honest review.
DNF at 55%. Wow I can’t stand any of these characters.
Fletcher is controlling and neglectful and has a complete lack of accountability, humility, or remorse for how much he has hurt Saidy. Does he even say sorry once in this book? He hasn’t by halfway through. Talk about toxic behavior. I see zero redeeming qualities and am screaming at Saidy to run for her life.
Speaking of Saidy, she’s an absolute doormat and difficult to root for. Glamma is a horrendous person as is Saidy’s supposed best friend Zoe.
Honestly, I can’t take the hike in my blood pressure every time I pick this up.
3.5 stars. It’s a cute story with a little bit of suspense and mystery in it. I wasn’t sure if the author would pull off making this dude likable, but she did! No other women or other men. Just a fun little romantic comedy. It’s not very deep, but it was a fun read.
A closed door romantic comedy with mystery and plot twist!
Saidy is an interior designer with lots of sass. She had been dating Fletcher for four months and starts to wonder if she deserves more. On a whim, she entered Fletcher in a podcast contest for World Worst Boyfriend and won... It seems like it would be best to call it quits and move on. Fletcher must be losing interest if he’s canceling plans, never answering his phone, and standing her up on dates.
Fletcher has been working deep undercover in a police investigation for months. The moment he meets Saidy, he knows the timing is all wrong. He couldn’t possibly tell her about the investigation and risk blowing cover again. Fletcher has been working crazy hours and hasn’t had much time for Saidy, but he loves her. He has even been thinking about rings. How could their relationship be ending when the investigation is only a few weeks away from a bust?
This was such a fun romantic comedy told from Fletcher and Saidy’s POV. A clean and closed door romance. I really liked the mystery part of the story. Actually, I more than liked it, I was HOOKED and even tried to read the whole story in 24 hours. Sullivan was a very interesting character and I kept wondering what his place was in the story, but in a good way. I loved Saidy and Fletchers meet cute. The little detail Carina Taylor added in about the mailman had me laughing out loud! I never add spoilers in my reviews, but I feel like it’s not too big of one to add. SPOILER ALERT: I was so happy to find out early in the story about Fletchers real job. I could believe what a terrible boyfriend he was and I figured I would be rooting for Sullivan in this romance. Finding out about the undercover job was a very pleasant surprise and twist that I was ready to read more about. I love how this book had more than just a romance aspect, it had adventure that kept me wanting more. I’m even on the edge of my seat to see when Saidy finds Fletchers surprise he leaves her in the end of the final chapter. I think I’ll need my own physical copy when this comes out because it my my list for top favorite releases this year!

The 3rd book in Carina Taylor’s Faking It series, The World’s Worst Boyfriend is funny, sweet, and so much fun! It is a perfect spring-time read, a light-hearted, feel-good book! Fletcher is the world's worst boyfriend, Saidy has the trophy to prove it. Although she is tired of Fletcher's canceling plans and vague excuses, she finds herself conflicted. Fletcher seems to be intent on winning her back, although he still seems to be hiding something. This was super fun! Saidy was such an entertaining character! I definitely felt bad for her as Fletcher flaked on different events on her. She had no idea what was wrong with him! However, I thought it was really cute when they were together. They enjoyed each other's company and appreciated each other. Even though they had to learn more about one another, there were definitely some secrets that needed to be revealed, they learned to love one another as they are. Poor Fletcher! He had to keep his secrets to protect Saidy, but it was very strenuous on their relationship. He truly loved Saidy though, he wanted to protect her and take care of her. I thought that he was really sweet, even though he could be a bit overprotective. I loved watching the progression of Saidy’s uncovering upon Fletcher’s world.. It was funny and well-paced. I also liked seeing Saidy’s growth in learning how to decide who she allowed to influence her life. She had to examine and evaluate her relationships, instead of just listening to everything/everyone around her. Overall, this was a cute clean rom-com, for fans of funny feel-good books! This is probably a teens and up book, with some language and innuendos. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.
Thank you @netgalley & @carinataylorauthor for the ARC! An adorable & laugh-out-loud romcom that will warm your heart.
🏆Sadie, an Interior Designer is dating Fletcher, an IT guy for four months now. But lately it seems that she's being taken for granted & being back in the burner in this relationship. Fletcher keeps canceling on their plans, he barely talking to her, he leaves his dirty laundry at her house, keeps dissappearing,he's not at all answering to her texts/ calls when she needs him the most. So Sadie decides that it's time to break up with him & move on(even though her heart doesn't want to) but not before entering him in 'World's Worst Boyfriend' contest.
🏆Spoiler alert 📢: Fletcher is an undercover cop, who's pretending to be an IT guy. He's working his ass off on a recent case that requires his full attention. He loves Sadie with all his heart but is not able to give her enough time & attention or tell her the truth risking his cover. This book is a breathe of fresh air. I loved so many things in this. 🏆The fact that the characters were already in a relationship from the beginning was a very nice way telling their story. 🏆The meet-cute flashback with Sadie running after the mailman had me chuckling so hard. 🏆Even after their break up, I loved how protective Fletcher was of her, he kept an close eye on her the entire time. 🏆The mystery part of the book had me hooked completely. 🏆I was truly thankful to discover Fletcher's undercover job so fast in the novel, which had me rooting for him the entire time. 🏆AND THE EPILOGUE! Damn I can't wait for the day when Sadie finally takes down the trophy to find the ring.
To think that I thought that this was your average-joe romance novel! I was so very wrong and so glad to be wrong because I enjoyed every second of this book! It is so well written and you just get lost in the story and want to keep reading and reading it, saying "one more chapter, one more chapter" throughout the entire thing.
I love the idea of this story, I can't even talk about the best parts without spoiling it, but take my word for it, it's really good and so much fun to read. You'll fall in love with the characters and their relationship and you'll end up rooting for them the entire time!! The book also touches on toxic relationships and how we sometimes listen to others more than we listen to ourselves which I think is a great reminder for anyone wanting to pursue anything in life.
Love this book and I'm sure you will too!
Thank you to NetGalley and Carina Taylor for the earc in return for an honest review!
Saidy has been dating Fletcher for awhile. In the beginning he seemed like the perfect boyfriend, but lately he has become the worst. He forgets dates, falls asleep, and keeps dumping his dirty laundry at her house. When she enters him into a podcast contest for the worlds worst boyfriend, and he wins, she decides it’s over. Fletcher really likes Saidy, but he has some secrets he just can’t tell her. He didn’t realize he was being such a bad boyfriend and doesn’t want to lose her, but he can’t tell his secrets, no matter how much he wishes that he could. The story started ok and I didn’t think I would like it. Saidy seems very Whitney in the beginning and let’s some of her family treat her like a doormat. However half way through things begin to make sense and I actually enjoyed the story. I love the way the author shows that each person has. Different perspective on events that occur. The characters are ok ⭐️⭐️⭐️ They needed more substance and Saidy needed something. Even though she definitely improves, she still needed more to make up for how boring her character was in the beginning. Storyline ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The storyline definitely had promise and was fun. It had you laughing in spots which I definitely enjoyed. Ending ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ was great. Overall the characters (especially Sadie) needed something but the storyline and plot made it an enjoyable read. The story had little to no smut and was more of a clean romance.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Genre: romcom Content: makeouts, infrequent mild language
So once upon a time, I won a giveaway of Rook to King and I read my first Carina Taylor book! I was sucked in! Since West of Port recently came out, I wanted to go back and read this one. It was so much fun! Now though, I think I need a reread of Rook to King before I read West of Port. I want to remember all the details!
The book starts off with Saidy and Fletcher dating...and Fletcher being a pretty neglectful boyfriend. What Saidy doesn't know that is the reasoning behind Fletcher's behavior-- he's actually an undercover cop in the middle of an operation that is gaining in intensity.
The antics were so fun and I loved Saidy's sassy personality. I loved the dual POV and seeing both of their thoughts throughout the whole thing.
Favorite Quotes: 😤 His gravelly voice reached through the door. I hated how sexy he sounded. It wasn't right that I could be so mad at him but still be attracted to his jerk face. I wanted to stay mad.
😂 Do you know what happens to your mind when a beautiful woman puts her hands on you? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Your brain simply turns to mush.
WOAH. This book looks like your typical cute contemporary romance but it turned into something that I've never experienced before in this type of book. You think it's going to be a typical story where we're introduced to a relationship that's loaded with problems but the characters come to their senses, realize how much they love each other, and happy ending. This one had a unique twist. I maybe would have liked the plot to be more fleshed out and to amp up the thriller aspect a bit. There felt like a lot of threads and not all of them landed. However, it was still a fun time and sometimes (let's be real, most of the time) that's all I require for my reading material.
