"Tempest at Sea" is the delicious novel of angsty love between Jake and Jane. Jake is the movie director we met in the previous book. While on a break from work on his cruise, he meets the activist Jane, who comes across to vandalize his property to get some publicity. To spare her a jail sentence, he hires her onboard for two months and that forms the story. We have a super innocent heroine and a mean-Loveswept hero. Throughout the first half of the book the hero treats the h like a petulant child, and the heroine shows her optimistic strength by taking on all the hurdles thrown at her. She does get into trouble with her righteous morals, but the hero and crew always manage to save her. What I did like what that the hero kept trying to push the heroine (albeit with some really aggravating methods), but she pursued him with with all her love and devotion. It was fun seeing the heroine beat him down with her sweet positive love, while the hero kept trying to show her how he wasn't into it. I am not a huge fan of the h being referred to constantly as a "child", neither the inclusion of ow/om for jealousy purposes, but it all added to the story which kept me hooked from page 1. Also not into "become my mistress" trope but it worked. The couple is really amorous and passionate, and I really loved when towards the end, when the hero tries to drive the h away, she calls him out and refuses. Enjoyed this May December romance (Yup, 17 year difference..) Safe 3.5/5
This book contains a hero who doesn't know what he wants and is u necessarily cruel towards the heroine. The heroine is sweet but does come across as a bit of a door mat by trying to convince the hero it doesn't matter what he does or who he is with she is in love with him and just wants to be near him. slightly off putting. not my favourite romance read.
Obviously your typical 80s cheesy romance novel. Usually not my style, but part of my goal to read all of Iris Johansen's books. (Lots of "ly" words - for shame! Lol)
