The thing is - he knows me better. We’ve spent years together. We’ve had each other’s back countless times before. I would have been prepared to die for this man several times over if necessary. Has that all gone out of the window? All is fair in love and war. The old adage makes me grimace. Is that what this has come down to? Do we all lose our scruples here and scrabble for the remains?

This is my favorite installment in this series, in large thanks to James, Lois, and Adie's roles. While technically someone could start this series with Deadly Retaliation, they would be missing out on the depth and complexity of James, Lois, and Adie's friendship. I would suggest starting with Sparks and going through that series in order first to get the full backstory.

The beginning of this was fast-paced and action-packed. It was also packed full of sexual torture, so that warning needs to go upfront. I did not find the beginning scenes with Mel & Adie super hot or anything. My reaction was more like: 👀👀👀👀

This author is good at balancing torture with more sensual scenes, and fortunately the extreme tone in the beginning is balanced out later in the book by a shift in focus of the story. I also appreciated how this author has infused both a character-driven story with a plot-driven story full of action. Often books will have a different bent. Some, especially some thrillers or scifi books will be much heavier on plot & action-sequences and lack character depth & complexity. While others have a more psychological bent and are more character-driven. If you count the first series, Special Agent, then this is book 9 with all these characters. There's been character continuity and development throughout the series I've been impressed by.

Some of my favorite aspects of this book:

➵ Lois' rescue. I can't believe the author put Lois through even more after all she went through in the last series! She's such a badass. When she realizes she needs to get Adie out of the way her solution is: "I'll just use my knives on him." And because this is a trained assassin, she actually has the skills to do so.

➵ Lois' reunion with Adie. Boy, do these two have chemistry. I have to thank the author for giving me another Adie & Lois shower scene. Also a James/Lois/Adie ménage (don't worry it was just a dream lol). While I didn't find the torture between Adie & Mel a turn on, I find Lois & Adie's interactions filled with more chemistry. I also appreciated how they ended up talking things out in an adult way, resolving the misunderstanding that was between them. Really loved to see Lois' affection for Adie come out, despite everything they did, and this was in character because of everything they went through together in the previous series.

➵Sandra was kick-ass.

➵None of Mandara's characters are invincible. While most of them are trained assassins, all of them fail at some point in the story. This raises the stakes and is much more engaging to me.

➵While the story is certainly OTT (most stories featuring spies & assassins are), all of the characters reactions to the situations they're in are realistic and plausible.

After finishing the last book I was so excited about Mel getting the upper hand and making Adie pay, and when the author mentioned that may not occur until the next book I was a bit nervous. I was so so pleased with how this book was structured though, I think the events in this book made the most sense and I found the Lois & Adie reunion especially satisfying. While Mel will most certainly be kicking Adie's ass in the next book, I hope at some point their relationship develops past this. Well, I guess I hope their relationship eventually evolves beyond both of them torturing each other. lol. Adie will need to pay first.

Minor nitpick: I'm over Sharkey & Adie Just subjective, but I skimmed their scene together towards the end of the book. I'm most invested in Lois & Mel

Very excited about continuing with this series. Looking forward to James' reaction to seeing Lois again, and can't wait to read more of Mel & Adie.

In this third book of the series, Adrien “Adie” Dumortier is on a mission of revenge against his best friend and to recapture what he believes is his, but in Adie’s world, nothing is seamless. In the process of making his mark, Adie sinks to levels that he doesn’t even expect, yet all is fair in love and war.

Narrated in multiple POV, the plot is driven by relentless characters with differing motivations. The anguish and rejection Adie experienced is fueling is actions and this shows a deeper side contrasting his sex god exterior. With the first part focused on Adie and Leader, once Lois enters the scene, the stakes are raised.

There many elements I enjoyed in this book, namely the boundaries pushed by all. Plus, there was a good balance between action and character development. Though I wanted Adie to make certain connections sooner, that unknown element added to the tension. When it comes to erotic torture, the content is fresh and tantalizing. Throughout this series, I’ve had mixed feelings toward Mel, so I’m looking forward to learning more about her. Of course, Adie deserves to be punished and I’m sure it’s going to be a penetrating experience. Lastly, I certainly won’t look at chocolate cake the same. Lol

Violent Retaliation is a dark erotic suspense with thrilling spy action. This book would appeal to those who like their characters living on the edge.

That bastard is more cunning than a really cunning fox who's just been appointed Professor of Cunning at the secret headquarters of 'Ban Fox Hunting Forever'.

Just a bit of housekeeping first. This is the third book in an ongoing series which must be read in order. It also ends on a cliff-hanger. Whilst the series can be read separately, since the author has gradually filled in all the details about his background and his history with James and Lois, reading the Special Agent Novels first will provide a fuller picture of Adie, James and Lois' life in the preceding few months.


I spent the first chunk of this book wanting to smack Adie over the head with a heavy object and to have carnal knowledge of him, in equal measure. He's an arrogant, selfish, SOB but he's also a little boy looking for someone to love him. And silly Adie has decided that he is in love with Lois, his former-best-friend's wife.

My father is legendary. So am I, and she'd know if she'd just let me in her pants.

What Adie is actually suffering from is a kind of reverse Stockholm syndrome. Lois is the first non-related woman who has shown him even a little bit of genuine affection. One who has met his kinks head on and has held her own against him. So of course, with no good examples in his life as guidance, he is convinced she is his one and only soul mate. Silly boy.

That's the trouble with life, though. It is cruel. It's mean and heartless, and just when you think you've got it all figured out, it rears up to stab you in the back.

Mel (Ione) is one tough cookie, though by the time Adie's finished with her she has singed edges and some interesting new body art. And should she get the chance to enact some revenge, that girl is going to seize it with both hands and take her sweet time extracting her pound of flesh. Oh I am looking forward to that possible eventuality.


Whilst Adie and Mel/Ione were playing and having fun, James was having a much worse day, and things weren't great for Lois either. There is a lot of crazy in the book. It's like a cross between James Bond and Fifty Shades, with a great dollop of Austin Powers "yeah baby" madness thrown in for the hell of it. At one point I thought the whole book was going to be one scorching hot, erotically charged torture scene, however I was proved wrong when the plot took an abrupt turn, closely followed by lots of fast paced adventure, daredevil motorbike riding, knife throwing and a horny boss. The only downside of reading it was that now I've got to wait until the next one releases for another fix of Mel and Adie. Get writing Ms Mandara!

"You're a f***ing joke, Dumortier. How is it that you've stayed alive this long?" That is actually a very good question.
"I've mostly hidden away in dark, underground caves with really good security. You should try it sometime."

James was quickly running out of time. With his own and two other lives on the line, desperate times called for desperate measures. And with Adie Dumortier in the equation, things could turn out even worse than expected.



This time around, the story had more action and suspense that help keep my attention. I liked how much vulnerability Adie showed in this one. He was always so amusing and full of himself but it hurt me when he hurt himself due to the actions he took.

Once upon a time, I’d have been there to save him, but things between us have irrevocably changed, and we’re hurtling down a path we can never come back from.

I have to say Sandra is annoying AF. I hope she’ll die lol! One of my favorite scenes in the book was the chocolate cake scene. It was deliciously cringey.

Violent Retaliation turned into a direction I didn’t expect. I’m curious but also cautious on how this will change the dynamics between the characters I love.

I really want to hate Adie but i can't! He has the right amount for good to make us forget the bad!

James can't cache a breath, poor dude!

I like Lois more than Mel, Mel is starting to grate on my nerves!

I love you, I hate you
Funny how I am perfectly fine with the kinky torture Adie puts Mel/Ione through, but it makes me want to hurt him when he does it to another character. Christina really had me teetering back forth. I really do love Adie and I think when the truth of what happened at Maison Blache comes out Adie has some serious soul searching to do. This book shows us how much his father and brother have damaged him. Addie will finally see the consequences of his messed up actions.
He may be feeling remorse, but Mel, she is living on straight revenge, especially after she sees the parting gift Adie's left her with. We still don't know a lot about her back story. James alludes to it when he finally meets up with Adie, but I am dying to know her family background and the traumatic event that made her who she is.
We are left with a lot of questions. Will Lois forgive him? How will James react? And lastly, what kind of revenge does Mel have in mind? I can't wait to find out!

Wicked, Delicious, BEST YET

Predicament bondage without a rope in sight? James has so many adversaries to battle, has Adie met his match, can Lois survive until rescued? Love, love dialogue between Adie and Ione (Mel)- satire at its best. Poor Adie cannot figure out this woman and worse yet is battling both conflicting feelings for two women. Has he met a woman that he cannot intimidate or play? And readers have to feel for Mel, dealing with an infuriating man and ghosts that still haunt her from her past. I laughed, cringed, peeked through my fingers as I devoured the next page then then next. I have read all the books with James, Adie and Lois and this is the very best to date, without a doubt. You will not be able to put it down.

The interplay between the characters will keep you on the edge of your seat. Could not put this down. Wonder what will happen when ax per CP Mandara style the tables get turned upside down between Melanie and Adie. And what about Lois? James has been poisoned. What else could this group need to survive for HEA. Write faster

And the story continues with Adie, James and Lois and the mysterious Leader. This is not a standalone, you need to have read the previous books.

Adie does what he does best, but finds himself conflicted. He is one of a kind and a character that you will love to hate. There is a race going on to save Lois and James and secrets are revealed.

So in short. This another rollercoaster ride of action, a lot of banter, sexy times, revelations and retaliations.

I was expecting a mind bang (trying to avoid the cussing), especially when the foreword literally says it's going to be f**ked up ride, however 10/10 was expecting that much of a mind bang.

Very, very dark and twisted 👌. And ouch. Lots and lots of ouchies. Violent retaliation awesome written and very graphic, excellent for steam and spice. Not fun for my imagination and the ouch moments.

Action packed with lots of suspense. Plenty of near heart attack/ stopping moments.

But I did love reading it (don't want to know what that says about my mental state). And I still love Adie, although I would be a whole lot more cautious if he was an actual real life person. Obviously love Mel, James and Lois but I want Adie to have a happy ending.

I'll be super excited for book 4 when's it's ready although I'll definitely be very wary and worries about what's going to happen.

OMG, Christina you have done it again twisted us around your wicked writer' s finger and now ..... Waiting!
If you have not done so already pick up this book. This continuous story of Adie and Mel’s story with no interruption from the previous book. Adie is continuing with his usual antics of torture after kidnapping Ione/Mel , of course being Adie she is fighting that she is actually falling for her kidnapper. James is is need and of Adie's skills time is against them all. What a cliffhanger. Dark and deliciously addicting, I need more Adie!

In this episode of "Life in the British Spy Network" we discover just how far Adie will go to get what he wants. I must admit, I actually liked Adie. He is most definitely a narcissist and and Giant asshole, but his ability to twist people up and make them do what he wants is masterful. He has a wicked sense of humor and I do love that about him. But in this book I learned how much I dis-like him as well. His single minded determination to get "what is mine" without regard to the fallout is absolutely despicable. Now I will wait with baited breath to see what exactly his come-uppance will be...

Adie is a monstrous, evil, sadistic, raw alpha male with an incredible reaction to female torture. Ione (Mel) has already discovered his penchant for administering pain, but she is strong and brave and is able to withstand much.

Lois has been abducted and housed in a cell on an abandoned farm. James is fighting a lethal poison. But, despite all the turmoil, who can resist Adie? Who will eventually save Lois? When? What will happen then?

This writing is like an addiction. Once you start, you cannot stop. You crave these words. You crave these characters. And, OMG!!! You crave the next book!

So much happens in this story it's enough to make your head spin. Suffice to say, Adie, James, Lois and Melinder are in and out of each other's lives with error and terror and plenty of love, lust and lies. Violence, sadism, sex and sarcasm abound, the latter providing lots of humour. Excellent.

4.5 stars. This book starts off immediately from the end of the Book 2. While this book gave me all the action from Lois but mostly James and his reunion with Adie which I sorely missed from the previous books, I also got to see more of Mel’s strength under pressure and the extreme circumstances that Adie puts her through unknowingly thinking it’s James’ sister. The nastiness in the scenes showed the real monster Adie is when he gets angry at the fact that James “didn’t bother” showing up to save his sister. Adie is so impressed by Ione’s ability to withstand what he dishes out, he has a moment of pride/happiness internally towards her but rules it out because he still has his heart set on Lois.

I found the amount of torture scenes to be quite long/drawn out and slow going at times and really just wanted to skip to the point where James confronts Adie and saves Mel. Then find out what was happening with Lois and how she would be saved.

My only gripe in the story was that I didn’t understand why Adie is still messing with Sharkey at all.

Captures, threats and rescues about in this action packed entry.

This is book three of the series. While it could be read as a standalone, I don't recommend that as you will not understand all the relationships. I recommend starting at the beginning.

This is a dark romance with strong elements of D/S and more. The story is well written and easy to read, but also rather intense. If you are looking for the usual vanilla BDSM, this is not it. That being said, if you like things with a bit more edge, then you are in the right place. The characters are well developed and definitely bring the story to life. The plot is fast paced and full of interesting (and often dark) twists and turns. There is also quite a bit of steam along the way. Overall, I found this entry to be highly enjoyable and look forward to seeing where it goes next.

Book three again filled with violence, dark wicked evil and downright monstrous acts upon ex best Friends, ex lovers, family, co-workers with them all being connected by way of being hired killers. There is so much happening in these stories I found it took awhile to get through, the characters you can’t help but grow fond of even with all of the horrific things happening to them and what some were doing to others. Each book when I’ve gotten about half way through it I thought omg I can’t go further...but the author has already grabbed ahold of me and I can’t not continue on to find out what is going to happen next. This one is no different I absolutely cannot wait to see what is in store down road for Adie. I do recommend reading the books in order so you have the history of the characters. Wow, just WOW.
What an intense, depraved story. Beautiful in its ugliness. What a great fantasy C.P. Mandara has and how happy I am that she can put these stories on paper. This was the 3rd part in the story of Adrie and Melinder and for someone who has not read parts 1 and 2 it is difficult to follow but the described sadistic scenes is a must read if you like this genre.

Outside the sadistic and yet erotic scenes, I loved Adri's train of thought. Bringing back a man whose thoughts revolve around sex and anything he can do to another is great. But I found his thoughts when he communicates with Sandra hilarious.
In the end Adri becomes a bit more human so you almost feel sorry for him when he falls into the hands of Leader. Knowing that there is a sequel is great but awful to wait for it

This is an action-packed adventure with a crazy man who goes after and captures a female agent and tortures her. while somewhere else undercover agent Lois has been kidnapped and being held hostage somewhere where she is not being fed or given water she has a secret she wants to keep to herself as long as she can. Her husband James is off on another mission and unfortunately, his life is cut in half but he is on a mission to find his wife but doesn't know where Lois is or how to save himself at the moment. Lois is in real trouble but there is no way out until a young woman bursts into the room. The characters are all intriguing in the storyline is something else. Adrien (Adie) has been tormenting and torturing a woman who he thinks is his best friend James' sister Ione (but doesn't know who she really is). He is still stuck on what he feels he the revenge he owes James when he left him for dead, and stole the woman he loves (Lois). Melinder certainly has had her pain limits tested. Maybe she can get her own back? Will James get there in time? Can he also get help in time for his wife? I loved the intrigue, spy atmosphere, danger and secrets in this interesting action dark romance. This won't be for everyone, for Adie's dark past, gives him some pretty dark methods of pushing women. I can't wait to know what happens next.

What is wrong with Adie? Other than the fact that his childhood was a complete train wreck and he was horribly abused. Adie is at time psychotic, impulsive and selfish. I am not sure I understand how Adie can be on his a game and yet with Leader, he is completely a klutz. This makes no sense to me. It is as if he has two separate personalities. - the charming psychopath and the bumbling fuck-up. It just doesn't work for me.

Dark twisted and so good!
If you are looking for a dark romance this is series to get. The characters are very complex and realistic and the balance between the light and dark is very well done. The reader gets to read the different pov of each character and that adds so much to the story. I became a fan of C.P. Mandara when I started her series on Jen and Mark and this series is not disappointing in any way. If you like the dark passion and all that brings into a story then this is the book or should I say the series for you. I loved this twisted piece. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

Despite the fact he looks like God's gift to women, he just may not be! Sometimes, you can go just so far!

Ms. Mandara had me on the edge of my seat! Scared, almost ready to cry!

An amazing third book in this series. Fantastic writing with both heart stopping moments followed by some hysterical humour. This is a pretty dark and twisted plot but then what else would you expect with Adie Dumortier? Clearly talented author who can bring you to the edge of your seat and then have you crying with laughter. That's not to mention the pretty hot and steamy scenes that are included.
Full 5 stars in my book and I look forward to the next episode.

This story is filled with dark, violent and very deviant scenes. It is easy to like all the characters, even though there are some pretty heinous things happening. I definitely have a love/hate relationship with this author. Every book has a dispicable cliffhanger that leaves me craving to know what happens next. Loved it!

Book three in the series brings a dark romance with strong well developed characters. The author brings a fast paced , action packed story with vividly painted ... some graphic scenes. I was glued to the pages with all the twists and turns as well as the steamy chemistry. It's well written ,moves fluidly and is a great read.
