Although Nothomb claims to have been born in Japan, she actually began living in Japan at the age of two until she was five years old. She is from a distinguished Belgian political family; she is notably the grand-niece of Charles-Ferdinand Nothomb, a Belgian foreign minister (1980-1981). Her first novel, Hygiène de l'assassin, was published in 1992. Since then, she has published approximately one novel per year with a.o. Les Catilinaires (1995), Stupeur Et Tremblements (1999) and Métaphysique des tubes (2000).

Nothomb moved often, and did not live in Europe until she was 17, when she moved to Brussels. There, she reportedly felt as much a stranger as everywhere else. She studied philology at the Université Libre de Bruxelles. After some family tensions, she returned to Japan to work in a big Japanese company in Tokyo. Her experience of this time is told in Fear and Trembling. She has written a romanticized biography (Robert des noms propres) for the French female singer RoBERT in 2002 and during the period 2000-2002 she wrote the lyrics for nine tracks of the same artist. Many ideas inserted in her books come from the conversations she had with an Italian man, from late eighties and during the nineties. She used the French Minitel, while he used the Italian Videotel system, connected with the French one. They never met personally.

Some things never change.
Browsing through the list of books I have been keeping for about 35 years now, I noticed that 20 years have passed since I last read a novel by Amélie Nothomb. Having read five at the time, I thought that was enough, as her novels mostly left me unsatisfied, however thought-provoking and well-written they were. A friend recently reading her Tokyo Fiancée and the discovery of this novelette in the local library made me wonder about her, if and how she evolved as a writer– and if twenty more years in my reading bones would make me read her differently.
I was surprised how Aerostats reflected the impressions that those previous novels left with me – admittedly, all fairly early novels (Hygiène de l'assassin; Le Sabotage amoureux; Les Catilinaires; Cosmétique de l'ennemi; Péplum).
Reading an interview with Nothomb from 1999 in which she discusses her novel Mercure with her Dutch translator , Aerostats comes across as a cocktail with familiar ingredients (tomfoolery, loneliness, self-isolation, a fondness of throwing up, puberty troubles, literary quotes and references ), poured into a new fancy glass this time served up in Brussels for a change (where Nothomb studied philology and worked as a tutor, just like her protagonist Ange). The story is rather thin (or airy, to remain in the aerosphere) and focuses on a recurrent theme in Nothomb, the transformative power of literature. Giving someone a taste for literature for an avid reader might appear a cure for all ills (guilty as charged) but Aerostats illustrates how taking the recommendation to read to heart might engender some morbid side-effects. As Nothomb stays true to Nothomb, there will be blood.
Nothomb doesn’t bother about plausibility – she situates herself in the Belgian tradition of surrealism – which means that her premise of treating dyslexia by reading The red and the black in one night - to begin with - isn’t one to take on face value. Nor does she shy away from portraying her characters with a big splash of caricature (hyper-intelligent and lonely teenagers, the hateful bourgeois parents, the lonely professor). The protagonists for a large part act as mouthpieces discussing the joy and necessity of reading and books (The red and the black, the Iliad, the Odyssey, Metamorphosis, The Princess of Clèves, The Devil in the Flesh), resulting in flashy and sparkling dialogues on books which are amusing in their pedantry – the signature style of Nothomb.
Afloat, aloft, aloof, both teenager protagonists – the student Ange and her pupil Pie (who is fascinated by maths, adores zepplins and hates reading)– aren’t grounded in reality, they both resemble passengers on an airship as well as the airships themselves, solitary and fragile, living in the clouds, desiring not to settle for the cruel and grim world of adults.
In the same 1999 interview Amélie Nothomb specified that The only message I can give to the reader is: Read. Literature has been my salvation. It can save you too. The message in Aerostats seems as eloquent as it is unchanged; perhaps it is reassuring that at least some things never seem to change? I think Nothomb’s advice is excellent, even if reading is more dangerous than smoking and even if she apparently doesn’t take it so seriously herself – or laughs off the strength of it, as too close to home.

Los aerostatos es la segunda novela que leo de Amélie Nothomb y me ha gustado bastante más que Primera sangre.
En Los aerostatos hay una narración precisa, diálogos brillantes, mucho amor por los libros y varias relaciones poco convencionales. El final no lo he visto venir. No lo he visto venir ni por aproximación. De hecho, he pensado varias veces en él desde anoche y aún no sé si me ha gustado o no. La novela sí sé que me ha gustado muchísimo.

Cette délicieuse impression de retrouver la Nothomb des débuts, impertinente, pleine de grâce dans l’écriture. Un roman comme une incision, précis et douloureux, à la fois lettre d’amour à la littérature et constat d’une solitude. J’ai adoré.

Or in other words a remarkably silly book - but I was reminded that I had wanted to read a silly book. But as you know they say to be careful what you wish for.
Structurally you can put all the characters into overlapping triads. There are six characters in three separate groups with the main character moving between each of the groups (plus three other people who are either mentioned or who speak once). There are four locations all ostensibly in Brussels, but really it could be set anywhere apart from the Caiman Islands. This minimalism is very efficient and I would have thought that it was ripe for adaptation for television or even the cinema - but maybe people who are compelled to make moving pictures prefer their inspiration to be somewhat lusher.
I disappointed myself as the cover and the title obliged me to deceive myself into imagining that this might be a steampunk adventure featuring one legged adventuresses in corsets and flying goggles covered in the dust of distant skies. But no, this is instead a domestic adolescent drama that owes quite a bit to the author's childhood and I guess her emotions in puberty, it strikes me as curious that a person in their mid fifties, or as someone else might say in the prime of their life, would be so invested in detailing adolescent angst.
There is a pleasing neatness in the symmetry of the characters, so in one triad all three characters are lonely and have difficulty in making relationships (of any kind) which is why I guess two of them end up in an inappropriate one while the third aspires to an inappropriate relationship. While in another triad one person is three years older than the second who in turn is three years older than the third, and the older character is in each case an educator to the younger. I day dreamed briefly that this could be turned into an educational principle with new borns cared for by three year olds, and three year olds by six year olds, the six year olds by nine year olds and so on .
Education, as you might expect for a puberty-pain book is an important driver, I might go so far as to suggest that this book is a bildungsroman, but since I am currently sober I will not make quite so many steps but perhaps bearing the ending in mind this is a parody of the bildungsroman .
The plot device is that lonely but intelligent girl from the countryside currently university philology student Ange is employed to tutor Pie a lonely boy imprisoned by a hideous Ogre and a vapid troll he allegedly is dyslexic, however this dyslexia is cured by getting him to I am on the mild end of the dyslexic spectrum and from time to time having conversations that go :" left? oh! you mean that left, the other left, not this left I have read all three of those books and it did not improve my spelling or help me to be able to tie my shoe laces , so I can't say I am much impressed by the scientific basis of this novel . After this the brave heroine tutors him through a couple more books to help him through his baccalaureate, it turns out that Kafka's The Metamorphosis is about puberty, which I thought passing strange because I had always pegged The Red and the Black as more of a teenage book than the Kafka, but the Kafka I suppose better captures the spirit of 'I HATE you', and 'you're so UNFAIR!' etc etc. Then some other stuff happens, but this is no Harold and Maude despite a visit to a fair.
Mysteriously Nothomb decides to have some drama at the end, which she then allows to fizzle out, mysteriously because she could have allowed the story to fizzle out without the drama, but I guess she just wanted to emphasise how much Pie hated his parents .
This was exceptionally easy reading, it slips down like melting ice cream, and is best enjoyed if you are thirteen and you HATE your parents, or if you are a conscientious sixteen year old and think you can solve any problem through the application of the correct books. The actual calendar years are not so important, this is a book suitable for teenagers of all ages which reminded me rather of the novel was Adrian Mole starts to write in Sue Townsend's The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole, Aged 13 3/4.

“Me encantaba no saber hacia donde me dirigía”.
Y así me ocurre siempre en los libros de esta mujer. Nunca es lo que te esperas. Y en este caso las sorpresas llegan perfectamente dosificadas hasta el final, en que te deja completamente descolocada. Tanto que me quedé medio bloqueada pensando… y ahora qué hago yo para seguir sabiendo de esta historia… No digo más.
Me he vuelto super fan de Nothomb, necesito todos sus libros. Sigue conquistándome con su afilada ironía, la sencillez de su prosa y las vívidas descripciones que realiza con tan pocas palabras. Parece que estuvieras allí con ella observando la situación a través de un espejo sin azogue oculto en la pared.
En esta ocasión nos presenta a Ange, una jovencísima estudiante de filología con poco talento para relacionarse con la gente y una compañera de piso de lo más peculiar, que decide ganarse algún dinero dando clase al hijo “disléxico” de un rico millonario. La situación es por veces hilarante y por veces bastante turbia y por la historia desfilan personajes a cada cual más extravagante. Los diálogos son de diez.
Pie, el chico, rechaza a su nueva tutora inicialmente pero pronto establecerán un vínculo especial a través de los libros.
Es todo un homenaje a los clásicos, a la literatura como poder transformador (y hasta que punto) y liberador de las personas.
“Me ha cambiado. Gracias a usted soy lector. Toda la vida leeré grandes libros. Y nunca olvidaré a quien me enseñó a apreciarlos.”
Mi lista de pendientes ha crecido con esta novela, como era de esperar.

La novela es corta, directa y tiene ese estilo único de Nothomb que te engancha desde el principio, pero que
también te deja una sensación extraña, como si te hubiera contado algo importante pero sin profundizar demasiado en ello. El escenario de la historia te hace sentir como si estuvieras atrapada en una pequeña estancia, sin escapatoria. Este es el lugar donde se dan las clases entre Ange, la estudiante que enseña literatura, y Pie, un adolescente que no parece tener mucho interés en nada que no sean las matemáticas y los zepelines. La relación entre ambos comienza en un espacio frío y distante, como si la literatura fuera el único puente posible entre dos mundos que no tienen mucho en común.
Uno de los puntos fuertes es el papel de la literatura. Ange, con su amor por los grandes clásicos, intenta usar los libros como una forma de conectar emocionalmente con Pie. Pero, a medida que avanza la historia, te preguntas si los libros realmente pueden hacer algo por él o si solo están sirviendo para crear una fachada de conexión. ¿Puede la literatura cambiar algo en la vida de una persona si esa persona no está lista para cambiar?
Ange y Pie no tienen una relación sencilla; hay poder, hay control, hay resistencia. No puedes evitar preguntarte si Ange está tratando de salvar a Pie o si, en realidad, es ella quien está buscando algo en él.
El final de Los aerostatos es, como suele pasar con Nothomb, algo inesperado y, en cierto modo, desconcertante. No es un final feliz ni cerrado, y esa es una de las cosas que lo hace intrigante y, al mismo tiempo, algo frustrante.

Nothomb logra tocar temas profundos como el poder de la literatura, las relaciones de poder, y el crecimiento personal, pero lo hace de una forma que es más sugerente que explícita, porque parece que nunca profundiza del todo en lo que podría haber sido una historia mucho más compleja.

Минах ги Аеростатите и краят ми се стори малко нескопосано сътворен. Иначе героите са доста близки до реалността и често се сблъскваме с подобни родители, и с хора упражняващи подобна форма на маниакален контрол. Както и със самотни, изолирани деца, правещи опит да се впишат в света и да намерят своето място и смисъл в него.

La letteratura non è una scuola di innocenza. Ecco la consapevolezza che guida Ange, diciannovenne studiosa di filologia, quando accetta l’incarico di curare la dislessia del sedicenne Pie attraverso una insolita, originale educazione alla lettura. Ci riuscirà inaspettatamente e anche abbastanza facilmente, ma a quale prezzo?
Personaggi dai nomi epiceni, un padre ottuso e autoritario, una madre ottusa e indifferente, una coinquilina ipercritica (e ottusa), due protagonisti intelligenti ma emarginati.
E Bruxelles sullo sfondo, una città che non brilla certo per calore umano.
Dentro questi contorni aridi si innalzano gli aerostati, o zeppelin, oggetti stravaganti e poetici che il giovane Pie sogna di pilotare, organizzando viaggi iperbolici. Ma Ange gli insegnerà a impadronirsi di altri strumenti, quelli della letteratura . Forse per intraprendere analoghe improbabili escursioni.

Dentro questi contorni aridi si innalzano gli aerostati, o zeppelin, oggetti stravaganti e poetici che il giovane Pie sogna di pilotare, organizzando viaggi iperbolici. Ma Ange gli insegnerà a impadronirsi di altri strumenti, quelli della letteratura . Forse per intraprendere analoghe improbabili escursioni.

Tutti i libri della Nothomb partono da una situazione "assurda", che risponde alla domanda "Cosa succederebbe se accadesse questo?"
Anche questo suo ventinovesimo romanzo risponde a questa domanda: "Cosa succederebbe se ci fosse un ragazzo che non ha mai letto un libro in vita sua e che deve affrontare gli esami?"
Il ragazzo in questione è Pie Roussaire, è un sedicenne che vive in una famiglia "nevrotica": un padre che controlla tutto e una madre che è rinchiusa in una sua bolla (colleziona immagini di oggetti preziosi).
Pie è uno studente affetto da Disturbi Specifici dell'Apprendimento (un dislessico). Per risolvere i suoi problemi, il padre decide di assumere Angie, una studentessa diciannovenne di filologia che cerca di sbarcare il lunario per pagarsi gli studi.
Angie riuscirà ad adempiere il compito per il quale è stato assunta: far innamorare Pie della letteratura e farlo appassionare alla lettura.
E qui si aprono un po' di perplessità che non mi hanno fatto apprezzare a pieno il romanzo (premetto che amo la Nothomb!): chi ha un DSA non "guarisce" dal suo disturbo, ma sviluppa degli strumenti compensativi che permettono il suo apprendimento. Un po' come per i miopi: per compensare il loro disturbo visivo, usano le lenti e non guariscono (a meno che non si sottopongano a un'operazione).
Ora è impossibile che Pie, senza alcun supporto, possa aver letto da solo, in quanto dislessico, in un giorno intero l'Iliade, senza alcuno strumento compesativo (tipo sintetizzatore vocale).
Questo "fatto assurdo e inverosimile" mi ha fatto leggere l'intero romanzo con un po' di reticenza.
Al di là di questo, l'intento della Nothomb è ben altro. Il suo messaggio è profondo: la letteratura non è innocua. E una delle grandi rivoluzioni è quella di far appassionare gli adolescenti alla lettura, perché solo così il mondo può cambiare.

Bueno, a los que nos gusta Nothomb, casi cualquier cosa que nos tire a la boca nos vale. Somos conscientes de que no siempre lo que nos tira es de buenísima calidad, pero nunca lo reconoceremos en público.
“Los aeroestatos” es una vuelta a la Nothomb de siempre, tras “Sed” y “Primera sangre”, algo más ambiciosas ―a mi entender― y alejadas de su tono habitual. Aquí volvemos a su ironía, su ritmo trepidante y su estilo casi dialogado, todo para una historia que, por desgracia, me hubiese encantado que le hubiera concedido cien paginillas más. Amélie, por Dios, que no pasa nada porque te saltes tus normas de tanto en cuanto…
Pero, en fin, como esto también forma parte de la experiencia Nothomb, diré que la trama es interesante; un canto de amor a la literatura con un giro al final que a mí sí que me ha gustado. De hecho, casi es lo que realmente sostiene que este texto sea una novela: sin ese final nos quedaría una historia sin terminar.
No es de lo mejor de la autora belga, pero un Nothomb siempre es una lectura agradecida.

Comencé esta historia sin saber nada de ella y me sorprendió gratamente.
La trama sigue a Ange, quien se convierte en tutora de un joven llamado Pie y lo introduce en el mundo de la literatura. A través de varias obras clásicas como Rojo y negro, La Ilíada, La Odisea, La metamorfosis y El idiota, observamos cómo Pie comienza a interesarse en los libros.
Una de las cosas que más me ha gustado del libro fueron las discusiones literarias. A través de estas conversaciones podemos ver grandes reflexiones sobre las obras, además de diálogos muy enriquecedores.
El final no lo vi venir para nada, me sorprendió y me pareció esclarecedor, ya que ayuda a comprender algunos detalles que suceden a lo largo de la novela, aportando una nueva perspectiva a la historia.

Breve, raro, inquietante y adictivo. Todo diálogo, personajes un tanto extraños, final sorprendente. Mucho amor por los libros y un buen retrato, aunque solo perfilado, sobre una adolescencia solitaria.

Me inclino más a 3,5⭐️ pero dudo que esta plataforma algún día nos escuche y agregue las medias estrellas.
Es un libro en donde habitan otros libros, en donde la época no está clara y eso lo convierte aún más en un universo ficticio cargado de tragedia.
Con diálogos chispeantes y cordiales. Amelié quiso jugar a escribir una novela de época y lo hace muy entretenido.
El final inesperado pero aún así me gustó.

Amélie Nothomb est une figure littéraire que l’on ne peut pas manquer chaque année, si on aime un tant soit peu jouer avec les mots. J’apprécie lire le nouveau Nothomb (bon, sauf si le résumé ne me tente pas plus que cela, ce qui a été le cas l’an dernier avec « Soif » – à tord peut-être…).
Ange Daulnay, notre narratrice, a 19 ans, vit à Bruxelles en colocation avec Donate, et est étudiante en philologie. En cherchant un petit boulot pour arrondir ses fins de mois, elle trouve l’opportunité de donner des cours à Pie, jeune lycéen dyslexique de 16 ans. Ange va tenter de lui transmettre son goût pour la lecture, et c’est pas gagné. Le jeune homme est passionné par les armes et les aérostats. Inutile de vous préciser qu’il déteste lire. Au fil des leçons, Ange va réussir à l’intéresser, et elle va également toucher du doigts les gros problèmes relationnels reliant le père et le fils. Je ne vous en dis pas plus, sinon ma chronique sera plus longue que le roman en lui-même !!
Car c’est bien là que le bât blesse….180 pages. Lu en 1h30, et encore, en prenant mon temps. Il faut dire que la majorité du texte se présente sous forme de dialogues, rendant la lecture très légère, certes, mais avec encore moins d’épaisseur du coup.
Alors, oui, la plume est toujours aussi fantastique, truculente, on prend plaisir à découvrir ses mots, ses phrases.
Oui, ce roman est une ode à la lecture, à découvrir LE livre qui va nous donner le déclic et nous diriger vers cette merveilleuse passion qu’est l’amour de la littérature. Les discussions littéraires entre Pie et Ange sont exaltantes. Je me suis reconnue lorsque je lisais ces classiques, lectures imposées par le système scolaire ou choisies. Je me suis replongée dans mes souvenirs pour retrouver le livre qui m’a ouvert grand les bras pour accueillir mon adoration. « Notre Dame de Paris ». Même si « Le rouge et le noir » n’est pas très loin.
Mais, franchement, c’est bien trop court. Trop court pour s’attacher réellement aux personnages, et c’est dommage car j’avais beaucoup d’empathie pour Pie et Ange. Je suis restée sur ma faim. J’aime prendre le temps d’apprivoiser les personnages, ici je n’ai pas eu le temps de m’immerger. Alors, vous allez me dire que c’est le principe même du roman court, et spécialement la patte d’Amélie. OK, je conçois, mais tout de même…le plaisir de cette lecture est trop vite consommé, à mon goût.
Tel un aérostat glissant dans le ciel, beaucoup de légèreté, de finesse, mais pas assez de profondeur, de relief. 200 pages de plus, et un développement plus poussé des relations humaines et de la littérature, et cela aurait été parfait. Je qualifierai ce roman d’étoile filante littéraire. Magnifique, mais pas le temps de dire ouf qu’il est déjà passé.

تبدأ "آميلي نوثمب" حكايتها بفتاة شابة في التاسعة عشر من عمرها، تسكن في شقة مع زميلة تكبرها بسنوات قليلة، وتفرض سطوتها على تصرفاتها داخل الشقة. وكعادة "نوثمب"، تحكي بذات الحس الساخر اللطيف الذي اعتدناه في رواياتها السابقة. تدرس "إنج" فقه اللغة، وتعلن عن حاجتها للعمل كمعلمة للغة الفرنسية، ويطلب منها رجل "مصرفي" ثري غريب الأطوار أن تساعد إبنه في عُسر القراءة، تبدأ "إنج" دروسها مع المراهق الذي يصغرها بثلاث سنوات، فتجبره على قراءة بعض الأعمال في البداية، حتى يقع المراهق في حب قراءة "إلياذة هوميروس".

There is something most refreshingly macabre about these bite-size novels of Amélie Nothomb’s. Call them cyanide macaroons. Succulent on the outside, deadly within. The poison in this one being, as always, puberty, which like a rare disease imparts to the characters’s minds something like genius.
How to cure an intelligent 16-year-old of severe dyslexia? Get him to read from cover to cover and in one sitting, first the Red and the Black, second the Illiad, third the Odyssey, fourth Kafkas’ Metamorphosis. A simple solution, yes, but one that in the hands of Amélie Nothomb can only lead to the pastry-like perfection of the novel’s denouement.

Es un 3.5💫.Este libro demuestra lo culta que es la autora. La manera en que uno de los personajes principales habla sobre varios de los libros que se mencionan en la obra es fantástica y ese giro de trama, genuinamente no me la esperaba. Pero algo que me hizo darle ese puntaje es Ange, su prota, la sentí plana y sin personalidad, se supone que es una amante de los libros que debe transmitir esa pasión a su alumno pero en ningún momento se siente, solo es el "este me gusta, leelo" y ya. Si el chico adquiere ese gusto por la lectura es meramente "por el poder del guión" 🤷🏻♀️.

Creo que más que no gustarme este libro, la realidad es que no he terminado de entender este libro. Me explico.
Decidí escuchar este libro en formato audio porque quería una lectura cortita y la sinopsis me llamó mucho la atención. Ya sabía que la autora es peculiar y que podía pasar justo esto, que no entendiera nada del libro. Pero, aún así, decidí arriesgar.
Para empezar, los personajes no tienen ni profundidad ni casi sentido. Cierto es que en tan pocas páginas es difícil crear personajes profundos, pero hay muy pocos, así que no habría estado mal poder ahondar un poco más en ellos para entender sus actos, básicamente.
La protagonista dice tener 19 años, pero realmente es una persona muy introvertida de 80 en el cuerpo de una chica joven. Esto queda más que patente en la novela y ella misma lo admite, y la voz de la narradora contribuye a darle forma a esta idea porque no es para nada la voz de una persona de 19 años, ni de cerca siquiera. Pero lo peor no es esto, porque es obvio que es algo que la autora quiere dejar patente. No, lo peor es que es una hipócrita al decirle al otro chaval cómo tiene que hacer su vida y cómo debe hacer amigos cuando ella es incapaz de relacionarse con nadie. Y precisamente esta incapacidad de socializar es la que la lleva a tomar decisiones bastante absurdas respecto a su vida sentimental que no tienen ni pies ni cabeza y por supuesto, ningún fundamento lógico.
Respecto al protagonista masculino, genera bastante lástima por la familia en la que vive y el poco amor que recibe, pero los pensamientos que tiene respecto a sus padres (y que verbaliza con frecuencia) harían saltar las alarmas de cualquiera para pensar que este chico no está bien a nivel psicológico, pero en cambio absolutamente nadie parece percatarse de cuánta ayuda necesita.
Por todo lo mencionado, solo hay que leer entre líneas para no sorprenderse con el final que se desarrolla. Pero aún así, me pareció precipitado y carente de sentido. En mi opinión, no se le ha dado forma necesaria a la historia para llegar a un final así y que el lector sienta que es algo necesario. Me parece más que la autora quería un final "apoteósico" y cerró el libro de forma apresurada sin pensar que la historia es demasiado breve para que termine de esa forma tan abrupta.
Como digo, mi sensación al terminarlo fue la de no haber entendido nada porque, aunque entiendo en parte a los protagonistas por individual, no comprendo qué les lleva a comportarse cómo lo hacen, en mi opinión porque les falta profundidad que nos lleve a entender esto. Y por supuesto, no los comprendo en conjunto porque no sé qué se aporta el uno al otro para las decisiones que toma cada uno, si es que deberían aportarse algo.
De las millones de referencias a libros en 144 páginas casi prefiero no hablar porque lo que empieza siendo interesante, se acaba atragantando por volverse excesivo.
No sé si volveré a darle una oportunidad a la autora porque ya digo que creo que el problema es que yo no he entendido la historia, pero ahora mismo no me apetece hacer el esfuerzo de tratar de comprender alguna otra.
Y admito que, después de terminar de escribir la reseña, me genera cierto desasosiego no ser capaz de decir nada bueno del libro, pero es que no encuentro la parte positiva. Porque lo bueno que veía era precisamente que los protagonistas discutieran sobre libros, pero hasta esto me acabó cansando un poco. Pero para quien disfrute con tertulias sobre libros sin descanso, este es sin duda su libro.

Esto queda más que patente en la novela y ella misma lo admite, y la voz de la narradora contribuye a darle forma a esta idea porque no es para nada la voz de una persona de 19 años, ni de cerca siquiera. Pero lo peor no es esto, porque es obvio que es algo que la autora quiere dejar patente. No, lo peor es que es una hipócrita al decirle al otro chaval cómo tiene que hacer su vida y cómo debe hacer amigos cuando ella es incapaz de relacionarse con nadie. Y precisamente esta incapacidad de socializar es la que la lleva a tomar decisiones bastante absurdas respecto a su vida sentimental que no tienen ni pies ni cabeza y por supuesto, ningún fundamento lógico.
Respecto al protagonista masculino, genera bastante lástima por la familia en la que vive y el poco amor que recibe, pero los pensamientos que tiene respecto a sus padres (y que verbaliza con frecuencia) harían saltar las alarmas de cualquiera para pensar que este chico no está bien a nivel psicológico, pero en cambio absolutamente nadie parece percatarse de cuánta ayuda necesita.
Por todo lo mencionado, solo hay que leer entre líneas para no sorprenderse con el final que se desarrolla. Pero aún así, me pareció precipitado y carente de sentido. En mi opinión, no se le ha dado forma necesaria a la historia para llegar a un final así y que el lector sienta que es algo necesario. Me parece más que la autora quería un final "apoteósico" y cerró el libro de forma apresurada sin pensar que la historia es demasiado breve para que termine de esa forma tan abrupta.
Como digo, mi sensación al terminarlo fue la de no haber entendido nada porque, aunque entiendo en parte a los protagonistas por individual, no comprendo qué les lleva a comportarse cómo lo hacen, en mi opinión porque les falta profundidad que nos lleve a entender esto. Y por supuesto, no los comprendo en conjunto porque no sé qué se aporta el uno al otro para las decisiones que toma cada uno, si es que deberían aportarse algo.
De las millones de referencias a libros en 144 páginas casi prefiero no hablar porque lo que empieza siendo interesante, se acaba atragantando por volverse excesivo.
No sé si volveré a darle una oportunidad a la autora porque ya digo que creo que el problema es que yo no he entendido la historia, pero ahora mismo no me apetece hacer el esfuerzo de tratar de comprender alguna otra.
Y admito que, después de terminar de escribir la reseña, me genera cierto desasosiego no ser capaz de decir nada bueno del libro, pero es que no encuentro la parte positiva. Porque lo bueno que veía era precisamente que los protagonistas discutieran sobre libros, pero hasta esto me acabó cansando un poco. Pero para quien disfrute con tertulias sobre libros sin descanso, este es sin duda su libro.

Дълго време Амели Нотомб беше от онези автори, на които всяка книга е задължителна за мен и знаех, че дори и да не е добра, аз няма как да пропусна. Е, това идиотско книжле, сложи край на моята любов към Нотомб, за която ще запазя добрите спомени от японския ѝ период. Истината е, че тя отдавна не е написала нищо хубаво. Всяка година графоманията я предава и излага все повече. През цялото време си задавах въпроsa - за какво го прави, за какво ѝ е това?
Мисля, че е крайно време да си намери друго занимание и/или работа.
В случая историята е малоумна, героите нереалистични, диалозите претупани и скучни, финалът - обидно кретенски. Тази книга ме изпълни с гняв. Заради падението и заради дадените на вятъра пари. Мен дори ме е срам да я подаря на някого.
Мисля, че е крайно време да си намери друго занимание и/или работа.

Lecture courte mais très profonde sur le pouvoir de la littérature à transformer l’être. Les discussions entre Pie et Ange sur les classiques de la littérature sont passionnantes. On peut facilement deviner ce que représente chaque personnage et faire la parallèle avec notre monde actuel. C’est une critique très subtile du monde moderne. Une vraie invitation à nous remettre en question.
