This timely new book is for young dreamers, their parents, and educators who devote their lives to helping others discover those dreams. 7 Lessons for Dreamers & Makers features research, stories, wisdom, and insights from SCAD professors, alumni, and other creative pros to help illuminate current and future college students looking for their path in life.
Fun little pick-me-up. SCAD sent a copy to my son who was too cool for its positive messages, i.e.,, "be open to experiences" and "see the world." Right in my wheel well so I read it.
So, while I'm not quite sure what's going on with the cover and author here, this is a very real book that SCAD (the college I'm going to) sent to me. Very inspiring, uplifting, and well-written.
Three-line review: We picked up this book while visiting the highly creative SCAD campus in a moment of wishful thinking about going back to college and studying something completely new. It is written for soon-to-be college students (great for the teacher partner to have in his classroom!) and offers some decent advice and exercises as they begin making decisions about their next step, but it is also a thinly veiled promo piece encouraging youth to go to college, which I personally don't think is the right choice for everyone. Also, there are a lot of examples of people who have "made it big" and now work for Apple, Meta, Google, Amazon, and similar companies, but I'm also not convinced that we need to celebrate the growth of these kinds of companies.
I wanted to like this a LOT more than I do. I'm a great proponent of positive thinking and motivational outlooks but this too often seems like - one - an entire book devoted to cultivating creative cogs for the machinery wheels of big corporate America - Disney, Google, Facebook, IBM, etc, and - two - an advertisement for the school that put this book out - SCAD School of design. For those reasons, though it was full of good quotes and some very worthy insights it was not a book I'd rate highly.
I bought this as a souvenir for my college girls while in Savannah. What a happy surprise. This book is the exact message they need as one is ready to graduate and the other ready to go to a different creative arts school in Chicago. The lessons are brilliant and even appropriate for 51 year old moms who just want to continue advancing in life.
A great gift for recent high school graduates. Glad I found it!
I enjoyed reading this. It is a brilliantly illustrated guide for 16-18 year-olds looking to decide on colleges/university. It is an extended 'infomercial' for SCAD BUT it has good advice and is engagingly written. The '7 Lessons' are useful and offer accessible guidance on the things to ask universities and yourself when making these life-changing choices.
