I was babysitting a friend with a bad back, but he's bad at taking any help - so I read a lot while he watched TV and was on hand in case he needed anything. Just felt better knowing he wouldn't be alone if he needed help. It did also give me the chance to finish this so that was nice.

Anyway, this was fun. But the jumping between series gave me a headache because it felt like it was jumping between two times in a way that didn't made sense, like they would refer to something that didn't happen yet, and it annoyed me.

Still overall - very fun, looking forward to seeing the end of this. I do miss the pre-big event series: they felt more cohesive to me, and the big events feel like they lose me to some degree, but I hope it settles down and makes more sense to me eventually I guess.

I can’t seem to fathom how an adult could rate this anything over a single star. I regret buying all of these deluxe editions and at this point, just looking to sell them. So if you’re reading this and you want them. Contact me but, I cannot proceed reading these…I get dumber by the minute.

"Necessary Evil" is an exciting crossover that unfolds after the events of Shattered Grid. The Power Rangers have forged a new world, completely erasing their memories of the intense battle with Lord Drakkon. The story also delves into what happens before and after Jason, Zack, and Trini supposedly go to a "Peace Summit." In reality, they are traveling across the galaxy as the new Omega Rangers, tracking down individuals empowered by the shattered Morphin Grid power. Meanwhile, Tommy Oliver steps up as the new White Ranger and leader of the team. Balancing teenage life and superhero responsibilities is no easy feat, but "Necessary Evil" captures the thrilling and challenging journey perfectly.

After the epic "Shattered Grid" storyline, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But the new twist with the "Peace Summit" storyline was a fantastic surprise! I loved how they tied up loose ends from the TV series. The reveal of Jason, Zack, and Trini as the Omega Rangers, embarking on thrilling intergalactic missions, was an exhilarating twist. And those new Omega Ranger designs? Absolutely stunning! I’d jump at the chance to join them on their space adventures!

I love the selflessness of Jason and how he always tries to keep his friends safe despite everything he has to deal with. The White Ranger storyline was a fantastic and fun way to rediscover the white Ranger. Seeing Tommy not being the perfect leader makes him even more likable. We’re introduced to a new characters, Kiya. She starts off an ally to the Rangers after being ones who are connected to the Morphin Grid. Kiya's transformation into the big bad, driven by her belief that Tommy might become another Lord Drakkon, adds such a compelling twist to the story.

“Necessary Evil” Part One is an absolute home run for the Power Rangers series! It's packed with hilarious moments, introduces some fantastic new Rangers, and dives deeper into the storylines we loved as kids. The plot is getting better and darker, with tons of action that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I can't wait to see how everything unfolds!

To Be Continued….

I enjoy reading the contemporary Power Rangers comics for the most part. I thought the first three hardcovers - Year One, Year Two, and Shattered Grid - were excellent exercises in mining the cool ideas present in those old shows and making something more coherent and modern. Certainly more so than the 2017 movie. Are they also big nostalgia bumps? Sure. Whatever. It's Superheroes!

Anyway, I think I actually logged those on here when I read them a few years back. The fourth hardcover was deeply perplexing and dull, leaving me agnostic on reading the further series in single issue form. So I've waited to read the fifth and sixth hardcovers (Necessary Evil One and Two) until they were both published and available to me via my brother-in-law.

I did look forward to them, though. The White Ranger + Thunderzords stuff is probably the peak of my childhood nostalgia for the MMPR, and the time jump meant the comics were now telling stories with this era of the show. Which also meant new Yellow / Red / Black rangers, new Zords, new Villains....Lord Zedd!

I came out of the first part of the Necessary Evil hardcover somewhat disappointed. There are elements I liked - the Omega Rangers are a cool continuity patch - but for the most part I found the continued focus on Tommy Oliver a little disappointing after the series gave him so much screentime early on. I actually think part of why I didn't enjoy this as much as I'd anticipated is the way BOOM! chose to publish both MMPR & Go Go Power Rangers, two separate books, paced sequentially in this collection. While that might make sense as a reading order, it made the whole thing feel oddly paced to me, with exciting Omega Ranger material interspersed throughout a lot of repetitive Tommy angst and a not entirely compelling use of non-chronological storytelling that even became confusing at times.

Still intrigued by the next volume, but I think I'll wait on it a little while.

In my opinion, Beyond the Grid didn't really feel like a Power Rangers story, or at least it didn't really fit in the previous story. "Necessary Evil" feels like it's gone back to the original feeling/tone and art style; for the most part at least. It starts off reminding you what happened at the events of Shattered Grid where the Power Rangers decide to revert the timeline. For some reason Lord Zedd is now in charge, and Jason, Trini, and Zack are a newly formed team of the Omega Rangers. They have told the original team they are at a peace summit in Switzerland but are actually fighting away from Earth. New rangers have taken their vacant places in the team. There's a lot of the story that is told out of order. It sometimes does say when it skips back in time but then wasn't too clear when it has jumped forward again. It does get confusing sometimes seeing a Green or White ranger, yet you are told that Tommy is no longer a ranger, then goes on a solo mission to attempt to become the White ranger. In terms of Omega Rangers, I think the idea is that the Emissary has appeared to Jason and gives him the task of fully fixing the timeline, but as Jason is distracted, his team is struggling to battle the mutant rabbit. So Jason only agrees to go on the condition that his original team isn't underpowered, hence him forming the Omega Rangers and new members step in to replace Zack and Trini. I'm still a little lost how they all seem aware of who Lord Drakkon is. They seem to know they have battled him, but yet aren't supposed to remember any details of the actual events of the Shattered Grid since those events have been reverted, although since the Emissary has shared some information with the Omega Rangers, but unknown from the reader, then this is probably gonna cause more confusion in the next books. I think the actual story here is simple; yet so jumbled it is barely coherent.

I feel like this book back on track. This read like Power Rangers. This book is two series in one mighty Morphin and go go. Mighty Morphin is a continuation of what’s been happening in the main book and Go-Go is following how Tommy became the white Ranger. Sorta as a prequel to the main book. I feel both series are very strong in the writing, and giving the characters more depth. Some of the standalone issues like the Bulk and skull issue, or the one where Rita is trapped and she’s having to live multiple lives was very interesting explorations of one dimensional characters on TV. In the main book, having an antagonist have a strong point of view adds a depth of complexity and intrigue than one that’s just evil for evil sake the reasons for why she’s doing what she’s doing. Makes sense, even if it’s extreme. And this series once again, explores things that they couldn’t do in the TV series, such as the new Rangers feeling worried about their place in the group and are they just temporary or Tommy being worried about what it takes to be a leader. Overall, this series is back on track and I’m happy for it. My only complaint with the book is it goes back-and-forth between different series and I kind of wish. One section was one series, and the other one was the other but other than that nit pick good stuff

Old Dogs: 2 ★
"Perros Viejos" es un relato exclusivo que nos ubica en la Prisión de la Alianza Unida del Mal, siguiendo la historia de Dayne, un cazarrecompensas intergálactico antes de ser contratado por Lord Zedd para derrotar finalmente a los Power Rangers.

Gotta say- the jumping around between GGPR and MMPR threw me off but I really enjoyed how they weaved the storylines together. Also- the deluxe edition kicks major a$$!! The artwork/ cover art in the back made the purchase worthwhile.

Strangely paced with the back and forth between three teams but overall I enjoyed it. I feel the tommy white ranger origins could have been left to its own book and this could have been better paced as one hardcover for the entire necessary evil mmpr arc.

I love how Zack, Trini and Jason become Omega Rangers rather than being in Switzerland in this iteration of Power Rangers. The lore runs so deep and this is another excellent extension and adultification of the Power Rangers that can be loved by all.
