Lilly has all but given up on her love life. It's been ages since she's even seen a smile from a guy, much less had a real conversation. Until she meets Travis--cute, in the hippie rugged way she likes, quirky, funny, charming, and completely NOT eligible. Expectant fathers on the labor and delivery floor of the hospital where she works generally aren't. Plus, a guy that would hit on a nurse while his wife is in labor? Yeah. Don't date that guy.
But there's more to Trav's story than Lilly first understands. Older brothers can be supportive too, after all. Despite their rocky start, and an old flame that just won't fizzle out already, Lilly and Trav hang onto their hopes that maybe, they really can have a future together.
Jenny Proctor is an award-winning author of more than fourteen romantic comedies and an Amazon bestseller. She began her career in publishing in 2013; her writing has been a constant since then, but she's also spent time as the owner and managing editor of Midnight Owl Editors and the chair of the Storymakers Conference. Wired for relationships, Jenny loves public speaking, teaching, and building lasting connections.
Jenny was born in the mountains of Western North Carolina, a place she considers one of the loveliest on earth. She loves to hike with her family and spend time outdoors, but she also adores lounging around her home, reading great books or watching great movies and, when she’s lucky, eating delicious food she doesn’t have to prepare herself.
I loved Love At First Note and was excited to see this companion novella. I'm happy to report this sweet short story delivers all the warm fuzzies as its full length counterpart.
Lilly was such a likeable character that it was easy to get sucked right into the story. And Trav was her perfect match. I loved seeing how they progressed from that first day and their serious miscommunication all the way to the end.
Great story by a great author. Can't wait for more!
Note: I was given this novella in exchange for an honest review.
Super fun novella that leads into the Love At First Note book later. MC’s are Lilly and Trav. Lilly is a OB nurse who runs into Trav when he is there with his sister, who’s giving birth. Lilly assumes he is the girl’s husband, hating life’s tricks that gives her so much attraction to very forbidden fruit. When he asks her out, she is beyond dismayed and disgusted by his lack of morals.
Anyway, this is a pretty short read, so I won’t blow any more of the plot. But it was super fun. Many novellas annoy the heck out of me because there isn’t much substance to them because they’re so short. But this one managed to captivate me and I really applaud the author on a job well done. I loved the characters. Though it was predictable, it was super fun and made me happy.
This was so cute and had me laughing out loud several times! I definitely will be re-reading this again, which is my standard for a good book. The romance was not forced or overdone but definitely swoon-worthy a few times. The humor was perfect, too.
The only things that kept it from being 5-star worthy were the implied swearing and the mention of beer drinking like it was nothing to worry about.
Other than that, it was hilarious and a real mood-lifter. I couldn't stop reading and read the whole thing in just an hour or two.
Favorite quotes: “Even the soft southern cadence of Brenda's words couldn't soothe my annoyance. I needed sunshine. And sand. And a good book and a long nap. Not an overcrowded, understaffed labor and delivery floor in the middle of a snowstorm.” (Chapter 1)
“A fake smile, mostly, but whatever. At least I wasn't spitting.” (Chapter 1)
“Oh my word, flirting was fun. It had been a while and the energy of it all felt fantastic. 'Hmm. I have to get back to work.'” (Chapter 5)
“I rolled my eyes and shoved it into Buster's hands. 'Here. Take it.' He pulled a fork out of his pocket and opened the box, shoveling out an impressive first bite. 'Seriously? You brought a fork?'” (Chapter 8)
“'Is she okay?' I finally asked. 'Um...I don't think she is.' He handed me the phone. What do you think?' AVERY: TravispleasecomeholdthisdemonoffspringsoIcanshowerandbreatheandforallthatisgoodandholypleasebringmeacheesburger!” I died laughing for a good two minutes at least. Such a firstime mom thing to think.
Novellas are hard to nail, but this one was perfect. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Short & fulfilling. The author successfully sold me on Travis being attractive. I know, that should be a given in a romance, but I don't always feel it in books. And it was a harder feat in this case, since 1. it's a novella and 2. I'm not usually attracted to bearded guys. ;) But I felt Lilly's attraction to him and they had great chemistry, which made it fun to read. I also liked the dual point of view, which isn't always the case. (As an aside, the cover is totally NOT the image I had envisioned for Trav & Lilly. It's all wrong. Where's his flannel shirt? I can't picture him wearing white sneakers and rolled up jeans. Not his look at all. Plus, it's set during the winter, so they were always bundled up...) By the way, this novella is actually a precursor to Love at First Note so you can read it in any order.
Content: Language - no swearing Sex - no mention of sex. some sweet kissing. Violence - none. I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
I wanted a short, fun rom com and this hit the spot perfectly!
I hadn’t really loved the last few books books I’ve read and kind of wanted a ‘palette cleanser’ before jumping into another full book. I love Jenny Proctor’s newer books so thought I’d give this older novella a try. It was a very enjoyable read!
Lilly is a labor and delivery nurse. It’s not easy to meet eligible guys among new dads. She’s surprised to feel a spark with Travis while checking on a patient, and taken aback when he actually asks her out - thinking she’s about to help deliver his baby. Thankfully he’s a supportive brother for the expectant mom, not a dad. Their connection is fast and fun. But could his ex return and ruin what he and Lilly might have? The drama isn’t too too drawn out, and (spoiler) this story leads right where we want it to go.
This is a sweet and clean feel good story! Fun and witty dialogue with likable characters, and it made me smile. I’d love more of this story! I’d maybe give it 5⭐️ for being just what it sets out to be. But it’s probably more of a 4⭐️ fun story.
This was a light and cute quick read. I needed something as a palate cleanser and this hit the spot. It is funny at times and just overall cute. I recommend this if you need a quick read.
I was trying so dang hard to finish this last night so I could hit 100 books in 2024 but I just couldn’t do it haha. This was a super quick and easy read. The story was so cute.
This novella was a super fun, quick read. I really enjoyed it. That characters were great, and the romance was just the right pace for a novella. Lilly is a labor and delivery nurse at the hospital and because of this she doesn't really meet a lot of datable guys at work. (I mean, hitting on the father of your patient's baby is not usually a good thing.) So when Lilly is attracted to Travis, the expectant father in room 315, she knows she needs to run the other way. But when he seems to be attracted to her too things get kind of confusing. Such a great story and perfect when you only have an hour or two to read. Loved it!
This is super cute and super short. I loved it because it gave me some insight and background on Lilly and Travis. We meet them in Love at First Note and I think it's always awesome to get "the rest of the story".
“I felt the warmth of him, smelled the spicy man-ness of him. It left me with a sudden and driving need to kiss him.”
Lilly works as a labor & delivery nurse. On a cold and snowy morning, all she wants is sunshine and sand. Feeling grumpy, she instantly messages Emma (BFF) and they talk about how it’s been ages since she’s been in a relationship. Her mood changes quickly when she meets Travis and they have an instant connection. That must be a good thing, except Travis is in the hospital room with a woman (Avery) that is in labor. What Lilly doesn’t know is that Travis isn’t the father, but the older brother of the mom-to-be. Lilly isn’t the nurse that’s assigned to Avery and she didn’t even look at her charts. So when he asks her out, she’s shocked and disgusted.
🤍READ IF YOU LIKE🤍: - dual POV - instant attraction (“and this little zing thing happened”) - lots of chemistry - Lemon Chiffon pie 🍋 - scruffy beard & gorgeous eyes - high maintenance ex girlfriend - clean, light-hearted romcom
This was my first experience with Jenny Proctor, and what I discovered is that she can do chemistry quite well!
Lilly is a labor and delivery nurse, and one day she feels QUITE the attraction to Travis, a man who she believes is the father of one of the soon-to-be-born babies. She chastises herself for feeling that way, and for him for asking her out, before discovering that he is not indeed the father, but the older brother of the mother.
They're really good together, most of the time. Both character make some major missteps (in my opinion) into unlikable territory. But of course it's tied up with a bow later, and they're just so darn cute. Loved the kisses and touches. Steamy without being spicy! I was overall impressed with what Proctor was able to do with such a short novella! I was really invested in the story and read it in one day, despite planning on taking my time with it through the week.
Trigger warnings: mention of stillbirth (off page), woman undergoing a difficult labor/delivery
I have a few of Jenny Proctor’s books in my TBR list, but somehow this is the first one I’ve managed to get to. This is officially a problem because if the rest of her stuff is this good than I have been missing out!
Bedtime if not going well in this house (yippee growth sports), so I needed something short to read sitting in my kiddo’s room while he falls asleep. This fit my needs exactly!
While I think it could have easily transitioned into a full length novel, Jenny did a great job giving us enough details to keep me happy, while keeping the length down. I came away loving both characters and wanting to hear more about their friends. I look forward to reading the companion novel featuring Lilly’s best friend, Love at First Note.
🤓 Final thoughts: a cute, quick read 🧼 Squeaky Clean: extremely mild language, swoony kisses
again, 𝐉𝐞𝐧𝐧𝐲 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫'𝐬 writing style, be it novels or novellas are it for me😩
—————————— 𝐌𝐲 𝐑𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 : 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 𝐓𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐬 : ✨ instant attraction ✨ nurse x patient's family ✨ cinnamon roll male protagonist 𝐀𝐝𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬 : available on Kindle Unlimited for a quick read :)
——————————
its rare that a novella is well done and has all its strings perfectly tied in, and I'm so glad that that's exactly what 𝐀 𝐋𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐈𝐧 𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐘𝐨𝐮 is🥰
with an instant attraction between the two protagonists that isn't 𝐓𝐎𝐎 insta lovey, this made for a feel good short romance that actually ended up touching a little bit of an important topic when it comes to emotional investment :)
don't worry, no cheating here! just an adorable making up from a couple I love with my whole heart and an admittedly kind of funny misunderstanding😆
Our protagonists are Travis and Lilly, both single. Travis is a video game developer, while Lilly is a nurse.
They meet in very special circumstances, when Travis's sister is about to have her first child. Their usual nurse can't show up due to the snowstorm, so Lilly will come to the rescue.
It is, like all of his books, a little romantic comedy that can be read in one day. Ideal for Sunday afternoons, you know, they are the worst thing. Even more on Monday morning!
It has the right amount of romance, but also a bit of anger, especially when the ex on duty returns to bother.
But to find out more you have to read it, of course!

This was such a cute, sweet romance. It was a brief story! I love how Lilly has all but given up on romance and the one chance she feels a connection she thinks he’s the partner of one of the mother’s she’s helping through a delivery, so she shuts it down vehemently. But even once they give it a chance, Travis’ baggage gets in the way, since he has a toxic ex who won’t leave them alone.
I won’t ever stop being impressed by the layers of plot Jenny manages to weave together in her stories — especially in these short novellas! I can’t get enough of them.
I really liked this story. This is not your typical meet-cute. I could easily have made the same mistake as the FMC. I mean, usually me who are in the maternity ward are the spouse/boyfriend/sperm donor if the woman delivering the baby. Thankfully, MMC was not. He was delightfully single, just getting over a breakup, and able to appreciate the love and acceptance of the FMC. Nice 60-minute read.
Jenny does a wonderful job at the novella. I generally dont like them because they feel rushed and lacking depth, but this was very well balanced and didnt leave me feeling upset. And, if I hadn't already read the follow up full length novel about the main character's friend, i would be very interested in reading it after finishing this novella.
So this is the second time I have read this story. It is short and a quick, clean read. I it had been a few years since I read this so some of it seemed familiar but mostly I had forgotten the book. I gave it a rating of a 3 the first time and I honestly can’t recall why. I upgraded my rating to a 4. I know I don’t love that Travis says I already love you a little. That is a lame line in my opinion but the kisses are good.
I loved this short novella telling Lilly and Trav’s story. Love at First Note is one of my favorite novels, so it was fun to read how Lilly and Travis got together. I recommend reading Love at First Note for more of their story. Lilly and Travis are a super cute couple.
Travis is the best big brother ever, helping his sister through labor and delivery! Lilly is despairing that she will never meet a guy, until she meets Travis. There’s an instant connection, but she thinks he’s married. She finds out otherwise and they are completely adorable! I’m excited to read Emma’s story!
This short story was super cute!! It felt like a very real storyline. The only thing that tipped my slightly the wrong way was how they fell in love in like two days. It was fitting for the characters though so I get it. The epilogue was adorable as well and I liked that it didn’t jump to them being married. Would recommend to a friend.

Too pat, stupid plot, over-eager characters that felt contrived, and at 44% it felt like there was no place for the story to go without the author having to get involved and make up problems to drag things out. In a super-short novella? That shouldn't happen.
If you need a sweet, cute, adorable little love story this is the one for you. Great premise, and felt like a full story even if it's short. No steam, just a few sweet kisses, and the language was tame.
I enjoyed this I just wish it was longer! But that’s just what you get with a novella! If you read the book love at first note you will get a continuation of their story
