Jim Elliot was a missionary--and then a martyr at the hands of the Auca Indians to whom he was witnessing. At the age of 28, he left behind a young wife, a baby daughter, and an incredible legacy of faith. Jim's volumes of personal journals, written over many years, reveal the inner struggles and victories that he experienced before his untimely death. In The Journals of Jim Elliot, you'll come to know this intelligent and articulate man who yearns to know God's plan for his life, details his fascinating missions work, and reveals his love for Elisabeth--first as a single man, then as a happily married one. Edited by his widow, Jim's personal yet universal musings about faith, love, and work will show you how to apply the Bible to the situations you face every day. They will inspire you to lead a life of obedience, regardless of the cost, and delight you with an amazing story of courage and determination.
A team of men traveled to Ecuador in 1956 to introduce the isolated Auca Indians to Christian teaching. Jim Elliot was one of these men. All five men were murdered by the Indians shortly after making initial contact. Jim died at the age of 29. His widow Elisabeth Elliot, published several books that included his letters and journals.
This was wonderful to read! The Jim Elliot story has long been one of my inspirations to become a missionary myself.
Took me a while to finish, in part because the middle was a a real slog to get through. Lots of hidden gems of wisdom in there but long and somewhat boring as he waits upon the Lord as to whether he should go into the mission field or not. But over all it really gave a picture of both the spiritual giant Jim Elliot was as well as showing us the very human side of him.
love the story! Certainly is a stark reminder of the cost of being called by God to do His work. Maybe not to the same end as theirs but, there is always a cost and it's so worth it!
