Rate this book
It was never supposed to be like this.

My darkest secret has just been sent to the one person I was desperate to hide it from and now it’s too late to take it back. The damage has been done.

With Atticus’ life in the balance and three new members about to be sworn in to the Twelve, the stakes have never been higher. Having my family back should be the greatest blessing but instead, it’s just made things more complicated.

We’re building a new empire in the Bay, one that is stronger than any that came before it.

Loyalties are being tested and reputations forged on the streets of the country’s most notorious city.

But one thing is for sure.

We might not all make it through, but so begins my reign.

No One Touches The Wolf

-book 3 of 3 of Averys trilogy, needs to be read in order, and after reading Hannaford Prep series and the Butchers Duet.

As per usual, my review will contain some spoilers

Let me start by saying that I am a HUGE J Bree fan. And I’ll be screaming All Hail The Wolf of Mounts Bay until I die. So, it seriously pains me to leave this review and not give this book more than three stars. Also, let me say that this review will be over all 3 of Averys books, not just this one. And, I might be in the minority here, but I will always be honest in my reviews, no matter how much I love the author and the rest of the books in the Mounts Bay saga. So, let’s get into my review.

I love Avery as a side character. She’s a great best friend to the wolf, and I am happy to see how her relationships progressed with both The Stag and The Crow, but I just don’t think she’s a great main character. Throughout the trilogy, I’m gonna be honest and say there was A LOT of telling rather than showing. We kept hearing Avery talk about how she should would murder people left and right, and yes, she did get her hands a little dirty at the end of the second book and some in this book, but the majority of the trilogy I seriously felt like all we read about was her staring at her murder board, what outfit she was wearing, and about her screwing her guys. I honestly don’t think she every really DID anything significant. All of the “issues” she had, guess what? The Wolf came home and solved them all pretty quickly. So how am I supposed to see Avery as some ruthless queen when we never really seen her be a ruthless queen? Someone even said in the book, “thank God The Wolf is back to take care of all of this”, because Avery never handled anyyyyything.

I also am not a huge fan of the relationships in this trilogy. Aohdan? Yeah, that’s my man. But all we kept hearing about was Atticus this, Atticus that. Hell, when Aohdans best friend/cousin died and he specifically said he would be back the next morning to be with Avery, she decides to run off and spend 48hrs with Atticus and that just rubbed me the wrong way. I get she loves them both, but at that time, Aohdan needed her, he was grieving, and she was running off to be with Atticus because he had some information and needed to speak to her. And on the other side, when Atticus was DYING, instead of staying with him or even just being a mess about the situation, she goes home to spend the next 2 days having sex with Aohdan. The relationships to me just didn’t flow well together. And Atticus fought it the entire trilogy until the very end. I never felt any true AFFECTION from him towards Avery. Yes, he’s devoted his life to trying to protect her and that gives him some major points, but I wanted to see more love and affection between them and it just wasn’t there. And I hate that it doesn’t seem like their ménage is in a tight/secure place before the trilogy ended. So hopefully we see a little more about the progression of them all together in some of the nexts books in the saga. Another thing, I’m not going to lie, I hate that she’s called Queen Crow. SHES NOT JUST THE CROWS GIRL. She’s The Stag’s as well.

Also, I was over hearing about how people feared Avery, when again, I just never seen WHY anyone would fear her, other than the fact that it’s because she’s protected by The Wolf. There was one point that I read something along the lines of “people fear you because the Wolf has made you the center of her world” and that to me, is honest. The only thing that would make me fear Avery, is that she belongs to The Wolf. Not Avery herself. They respect “The Queen” because they fear The Wolf. Not because she’s this ruthless woman that deserves to have all these hardened crime lords quaking in their boots. I also never understood her hatred towards Luca. Yes, he’s the one that found them in the Jackals lair, but he found her and was trying to protect her, and he also kept her secret about Aohdan from his own boss for her. I understand he might bring up bad memories for her, but to hate him? For what??? I just didn’t get it.

This wasn’t a bad trilogy, and it has definitely set some things in place for the future and has also really shown the growing “Family” that will own the Bay. I just don’t personally think Avery was a strong main character and that makes me so sad because I had such high hopes for her books.

It was okay😕

I was so looking forward for this book to be released but to be honest I was bit disappointed. The villains were easily eliminated without a hint of challenge.
I felt like the story was rushed and no explanation on certain things throughout the book. Eg: when Avery’s video was played at the ball and how or what Lips had dealt with. So many scenarios were left for assumptions.

All I read most again and again was what Avery and Lips wouldn’t do for family in so many words but actually not in action much. I presume there will be more books from Mounty bay but Queen crow could have been concluded better. When compared to Hennaford prep this didn’t meet the scale as high as it could have been 😒

Did we read the same book? I LOVED this series. Avery won me over in Lips series, and her character development was amazing to read. This book was like the author took away all that hard work and just wrote something so she could end the series. Avery had none of her usual quirks or personality, and was a shell of her former self. The other characters were lackluster too, and the ending left so much more to be desired. It was a quick read and I found myself skimming through a lot of the scenes just to finish the book.

I’m sad because I feel kind of let down by this series. I can recognise that I’m probably being somewhat unfair when I compare it to Hannaford Prep, but J.Bree did that - and for me, this series hasn’t delivered.

This was the final book in Avery’s story, and I still feel like we barely got to graze the surface of the potential in her character. There was too much time spent still worshipping Lips, Ash, Harley and Blaise - and we already had five books of that.

A lot of this story felt like filler. Plot points brewing in the previous books were wrapped up quickly and felt inconsequential. A lot was solved by Lips and co returning home - she sort of swoops in and sorts everything out - but this was supposed to be Avery’s book.

The romantic dynamic between Avery, Aodhan and Atticus also felt off throughout the book and still feels that way at the end. It didn’t feel resolved at all or like a HEA. Also, what was with Luca? He hung around on the periphery of the story, but I don’t know why.

Overall, this wasn’t bad - it was nice to revisit familiar characters and I continue to love J.Bree as an author and the world of Mounts Bay. Still, I get the feeling that this series wasn’t the priority - I think it coincided closely with Bonds That Tie, so I get it, I love that series too.

4.5✨ did i devour this third book too? why, yes. yes, i did.

atticus, naturally, caused me extreme fucking stress but i froth at the mouth over how everything turned out. he is so perfect for every in so many ways, just the complete opposite ones from aodhan which makes their threesome just absolutely perfection. he is perfect in more than just that way that she has loved him her whole life. everything about them sings to the struggles and trials.

aodhan is obviously a main character throughout this entire series and we see him constantly but i still feel like he’s underrated and i think it’s just because he’s so pure and so sweet and kind and considerate and understanding. he falls into the family, into that protect and defend to the end monicker of theirs so seamlessly and perfectly. truly love him so much.

avery really is a fucking queen. the reputation she built for herself and everything she overcame and accomplished was just incredible. i loved following her through this journey. her growth was so different to what we saw with lips and i just think this whole series and saga rounded out perfectly with all of them.

having lips & the guys back is everything. getting to see them again and the guys all fawning over their mounty was what I needed. i feel the relief the same as the girls do at having their family back and together again, dominating their shit and cleaning the board. happy and safe and loved.

i fucking loved getting more insight into the game in this book. reading the entire mounts bay saga, you start after the game has ended and learning bits & pieces over the course of 9 books has been amazing. it’s just so well done. interconnected series like this are underrated af. but that ending… ffs it never ends. i need more and i am desperate for it. as desperate as i am devastated to have finished these.

all hail the ruthless queen crow

”I went into that room to die for her.”

“He built his empire for me and I will not let it fall.”

“I’ve built a name for myself and an entire ruthless empire of my own. For myself and my family.”

“I thought that the girl I’ve gotten to know over the last year was magnificent before, and she was, but this version is breathtaking. Vital to my survival. So earth-shatteringly perfect that I cannot believe she’s mine.”

“I look around at everyone there laughing and chatting together, there’s a swell of pride in my chest as well as an overwhelming sense of achievement. We did it. We made it through all of the trauma and the devastation, the lies and the testing of loyalties, the betrayals and the heartaches. We made it through with each other.”

My rating: 4

Queen Crow series is now finished, but the ending implies we are in for another ride with this family and I am glad about it.

I rated it 4 stars, because I love that the family is back together and it is so much more fun, when Lips and Aves work together protected by Lips guy and Avery’s guys too. I was not sure if the Crow will wake up or not and I was not sure if I wanted him to live. Because he was so often an a** to Avery and Lips. But then he woke up and he did surprise me.

My complain is the cover of the book. Because Bree tells us that Avery has a small rack and the cover model does not agree with this statement on all three covers. And Avery is into fashion, but she never was described sl****. So I think that the covers of all three books do not fit Avery’s personality.

Overall the book was a quick and entertaining read. I am looking forward if the next will be the world tour or a combination of world tour and collage and they have to start replacing the twelve with the family. Will there be 12 again? Actually they would be 12 if you count Lips, Atticus, Aodhan, Jackson, Luka and Lucy and also their partners Avery, Viola, Harley, Blaise, Ash, Luca’s partner and Lucy’s partner? I’m also interested in the partners of Lucy and Luca: will they get together or will Nate will be Lucys partner? And if Lucy and Luca get together, Illi and Odie could be members of the twelve. So many theories!

I love Bree’s writing and this world she’s created. Hannaford series is a favorite of mine. However this last book was a disappointment in that it feels rushed and unfinished.

Spoilers ahead

So many loose ends and unanswered questions. For example, why did Atticus keep Bingley alive in his basement for years and not just kill him? Why didn’t he kill his other brother or father because in the end it took little to no effort for it to happen by other people no less. Avery never even asked Atticus why he kept Bingley alive.

Avery’s relationships feel very unfinished and neither Atticus or Aodhan were developed like Lips’ guys or even Illi was.

I feel like this was a great rough draft but wasn’t fully flushed out. I hope Bree isn’t stretching herself too thin and electing the quality she has delivered in the past. It was great to revisit these characters again but overall it was a bit of a let down to the other two Queen Crow books as well as the Hannaford series.

“On the streets I am now the slum version of royalty — the infamous Queen Crow.
The part he’s missing is the ruthless part of my persona, the part where I was forged in fire, over and over again, and there’s nothing they can do right now that I can’t get out of.”
Before I get into my review, I have to just scream that we did not get a threesome. The relationship between Avery, Atticus, and Aodhan is still not fully established. There is a lot of feelings especially for Atticus when it comes to Avery being with someone else. So while this book wrapped up Avery Beaumonts trilogy, her relationship is not at a point where it’s like our favorite Mounty and her three men.
Not gonna lie, I was so disappointed we did not get that threesome. 😂

What I love about this book is Avery has really grown in strength. Her OCD and extreme feminine persona is still there but she has also welded weapons and didn’t second guess to use them on others. Oh yes, Avery gets blood on her hands. For real.

Lips and her boys are back. And damn does it feel good because they are my favorite characters of all time of time.
Ash and his intense love and protectiveness over his sister, Lips still is complete control over this city.
“We’re going to sort everything out and, fuck, if Atticus needs a new kidney or lung or something, I know a guy. We’ll get him good again.”
“I snort at her attempts to cheer me up, because of course she has a spare organs guy on speed dial,” … 😂

Lips has her brother Noah under her care now. He’s an obnoxious, no fucks given, mouthy, rude, yet hilarious gay teenager that has the serious hots for Ash.
“He has big dick demon energy. He would definitely slit my throat after rearranging my guts, and that’s too fucking hot.”

The dark humor in this book was probably my favorite ever.

Seeing Illi and Odie with their baby have me all the feels.
Seeing everyone all together at a dinner table makes you feel like everyone has come full circle. It was really emotional at the last chapter.
“We made it through all of the trauma and the devastation, the lies in the testing loyalties, and the betrayal’s and the heartaches. We made it through with each other.”

The ending completely opens up to hopefully - we get what the hell happened when Lips and her boys were on tour. Let’s just say there’s something in the freezer and I’m dying to know what the hell happened!

Make way for the queen- because Queen Crow has arrived, and she’s every bit as cunning and fierce as she is loyal and loving. And what a marvel she is- J Bree has concluded this compelling story about one of my favorite Mounts characters with a bang, and a lot of heart, and I could not love our Queen Crow more.

This whole trilogy is really about Avery- and every one is truly revolving around her. And that is what I loved most about this conclusion that began as a queen B, then the loyal and trusted secondary bestie, has emerged as the most POWERFUL character of all- Avery is the glue. She’s the center of so much in the Twelve, and this finale is about her fully claiming and leaning into that power- now confident enough in herself and her role to lean on her chosen family. As we saw in the finale of the last book, some of our favorite characters are back in the Bay. Still so smart that J Bree kept them away- so Avery can shine, but she’s sparkling so brightly that no ONE can detract from that in the finale. This is well and truly Avery’s story and Avery’s world. I love her so fiercely- and her metamorphosis as a character is my favorite of the entire Mounts world. She’s in control of the board- but most importantly, she’s not FINALLY in control of her destiny, unafraid to demand what she wants- to claim it. And J Bree so beautifully juxtaposes Avery’s power to Lips in this finale- where Lips is brute violence and cunning, Avery masters both the players and the board. She’s a force- a QUEEN. And together they are unstoppable. Their friendship is undoubtedly the best and most beautiful part of this entire series- I live for their platonic love story. It’s the heart of the feminist power of this series.

We have a lot of action in this finale- and lots of enemies to unravel. I really appreciated how J Bree stayed true to these characters- and just to Avery, but the entire crew. The way each and every one of them contributed to this finale was a perfect articulation of who they are not just in the game or the Twelve, but as evolving humans. And that includes how she addresses the stalemate between Avery and her men- one whose heart is so big and open he’s willing to share her affections as long as he has a piece, and the other who has loved her endlessly and who has made countless sacrifices for her, he’s not willing to give any of her up to another. And, while I think the way this was wrapped up felt like the right manifestation of each and every character (and what did or didn’t happen also felt perfectly characterized, even if I was expecting something else), I do wish we had a bit more focus on Avery and her men. They as characters and their romance felt sidelined for a lot of the story, and I didn’t get to savor it as much, feel as confident in where they landed because it felt a bit hastily concluded, and some things still feel...well...unfinished. But, such is J Bree- she always leaves us thirsty for me. And, again, this is Avery’s book-so perhaps this is an intentional artistic choice, and one that I can certainly admire. Because this is about Queen Crow- about Avery coming into all parts of herself and finding her power and her stability. And she’s not defined by her romance, or the Twelve, or even by her magical relationship with Lips. J Bree situates the story entirely on her, and the romance is only once piece of this complicated puzzle. So even if I selfishly wanted more of it, I get the choice- and it’s just an indication of how much J Bree has made me long for these characters. And, small side note, but I also desperately missed the Butcher’s more consistent (and humours) presence in this final installment- but again, given the return of the prodigal brother and his Wolf, I get why he’s less prominent. And those moments made for some happy-fan delights.

J Bree writes with such an unparalleled energy- the Mounts Bay world is immersive and consuming. But these characters make her stories so unique. Characters who she somehow endears to us because of their broken moral compass- because their darkness comes from a place of light- love for family, and the hope for happiness and safety within the corrupted little world.

Of course, we have some loose ends- the game is never over, even if our characters are sitting in their happy for now. We have other characters that we’ll need answers about and business we’ve only scratched the surface on. I’m not quite sure what J Bree has up her sleeve next, but I know this, I’m hungry for it- and I know it will be epic.

*spoilers*

it really pains me to give this 1 star and for the only reason for the 1 star to be there in the first place is because of the original crew’s interactions with each other. but this trilogy kind of really disappointed me. it felt really rushed and there are a lot of things we still don’t know about?

it just wasn’t what i was expecting for avery. this book in particular, everything wrapped up soooooo easily when you compare it to hannaford prep. and there was so much going on all at once that there was no really room for avery’s character growth at all. like why was so much time spent on noah?? who tf cares?? why was avery a secondary character in her own series?? like she’s queen crow, but why? the only thing she does is contact people? and she has a few kills under her belt, but it’s clear the only reason she has respect is because of lips and atticus.

and speaking of atticus, she really should’ve just killed him off. or not included him at all. he’s absent for like 50% of the book and there’s absolutely NO development for him and avery at any point in the series. all of the development goes to aodhan, and while i love him too (i do, i really do 😭), i still really hate how their relationship started. like jbree could’ve put them together any other way, but she chose that and it feels like a cop out. she uses flashbacks for us, the reader, to understand atticus, but that’s her mistake because his pov should’ve been in the present, developing the relationship with avery equally among aodhan, and we should’ve learned this stuff with avery through present relationship development. it almost felt like jbree didn’t want to write atticus and avery anymore, and if she didn’t, she was perfectly in her right to just not write it and explain to readers why she chose not to, and it’s apparent that she didn’t do this because she knew readers would be upset, but she really didn’t handle it properly. like how do they go from them fighting to atticus waking up from a coma and being like, “ok, i’m in with this triad thing.” like two seconds later????? atticus, who doesn’t even want to share??? and avery and atticus STILL haven’t even had proper conversations about any and everything??? even tho there was prime opportunity when she was taking care of him after the hospital!!! there were like 3 sex scenes for her and atticus in the entire trilogy. 3. THREE. not to mention how it ends, atticus and aodhan haven’t even talked to each other either and three of them haven’t spoken about any of it at all. just please explain because i genuinely don’t understand.

idk i wish jbree would just stop writing mounts bay books. it feels like she’s running out of ideas for them and she’s getting bored and it’s coming off poorly in her work because of it.

I was on the fence about giving it 3 or 4 stars.

What I loved.
The story kept moving, had a great pace. Kept me engaged and read the whole book in one afternoon.
I am still obsessed about how well suited Avery and Aodhan are for each other. Happy that we got more of the Lips - Avery friendship.

What I had me questioning that extra star.
- During the last 2 books the bad guys were built up and we were told how untouchable and hard to deal with they would be. In the end the way they were dealt with was a bit anticlimactic.

- Also, I still don't like Atticus. He never did redeem himself in my eyes. I know he became the Crow to keep her safe and built his empire so she would stay safe. But I think he was so focused on her safety that he forgot about her happiness. He failed to notice she became a strong capable woman. I feel like he never treated her as an equal outside the bedroom, so it really pissed me off when he dominated her inside of it. I love RH, but honestly, this man made me wish she had only picked Aodhan or had met someone else to replace him with. And the fact that she is now known in the underground world as Queen Crow.. I feel is a bit of a disservice to her. She is a badass on her own, and I feel that nickname makes her an extension of him, as if her power comes from her connection to him. Again, I feel like this because of the way he treated her. I think if the nickname had been Queen Stag I wouldn't be as bothered by it, because Aodhan always treated her as an equal and gave her the respect she deserves. So I think I would have seen that as a sign of true partnership and of them ruling together instead of her being subservient to him.

Anywho, can't wait for the next book in the Mounts Bay universe!

This is a trilogy about Avery (19yo) who is in love with Atticus (24-25yo) since she was 9. She then goes through a traumatic experience and falls in love with the guy (Aodhan-21yo) that went there to save her. She's also in a family extremely chaotic with a bunch of enemies. She has a murder board filled with entire families, she has dossiers filled with information about a bunch of people. She has a to-do list that never ends.

And, hey, we have three books where she solves two, maybe three things on her to-do list (half-assed, if I may add); two love interests when only one makes sense, and unprocessed ✨trauma✨

If you can't read the tone of my review: the only reason this book isn't a 1 star is because Hannaford Prep prep(HA!)ared me enough to already love these characters and have the tiniest bit of fun. This was 😃 a 😃 waste 😃 of 😃 time 😃

What an amazing end to another wonderful serie. Avery grow so much, she already was a badass b**ch but she grow so strong in this serie. With 2 powerfull man by her side to back her up. She had always been seen as a spoiled rich girl with a lot of power. Now she really is a queen. In Queen Crow she overpowers her demons and put them to rest. Fighting for what she really wants and kicking life in the butt. She showed her enemies what happens when you touch whats her. How she will fight for everything.

Loved the first two books of queen crow but this .. just wasn’t it? Nearing the end I 100% thought there was going to be another Avery book because so many things were left open. And even her relationships were not addressed and just left in a state of them still not talking?? Like that makes for a secure long lasting relationship??? Anti climatic, everything was way to easy. Lips was a main focus when she already had her series. Atticus was just barely there the whole book. Definitely felt like a filler book not a final book to Averys story.

ALL MY REVIEWS CAN BE FOUND ON MY BLOG: ABSTRACT BOOKS

line

Star Rating : 4.5/5 Stars

POV : Dual

Cliffhanger : None

Hero : Atticus , Aodhan

Heroine : Avery

Pace of the story : Moderate

Angst Rating : 5/10

Heat Rating : 6/10

Plot Summary :
With Atticus being shot, Avery doesn't know what to do. Aodhan is her support now and she knows that she has to end this all once and for all. Their enemy is stronger than ever and knowing that the Crow is harmed they are now in even more danger .

But Avery is a queen. If there is one thing she knows how to do perfectly, it is to protect the ones she loves and now is the time for her to act. By the time she would be done with them, there would be nothing left of her enemies.

Overall Opinion :
Damn this trilogy made me nostalgic!! I just loved it so much. Avery and her men are perfect. Like downright perfect and don't even get me started on the side characters. I loved everything from Ash's possessiveness to Nate's appearance. This trilogy now has me even more hooked in the mounty world and I want my next fix right now!

The ending of this long awaited trilogy was amazing and I love how this author blends all her worlds together and makes us see all the characters again and again. There is nothing I love more than the appearance of characters from other series in a book and J. Bree always gives me that. I have such a long list of characters now who deserve their books written and I hope that gives that to us because I am waiting for that so bad!

I would definitely recommend this trilogy to all the Kickass heroine loving people. Avery is a true queen and Aodhan and Atticus are perfect for her. They want her and worship her and it's the best thing to see! Highly recommended to all the dark MFM romance loving people!

Okay I think this is 4.25 or 4.5 but I’m rounding it up because I love the series even if there’s some problems with it. It’s getting a high rating due to vibes and I really do love Avery as a main character. I thought her story was super interesting and loved watching her find herself on her own. I do wish there was one more book because I feel like this one was missing a few things.

I loved Aodhan and I will for the rest of my life. He did feel a little more absent in this book which I didn’t love but still adored all the scenes with him.

I’m STILL not sold on Atticus. I feel like nothing was resolved with him. They never really talked it all out between him and Avery, also there was never a conversation with the three of them. Like it felt like we needed that to happen because I still don’t see the connection without them working in their relationship in the present. We also never learn some of his secrets which was slightly frustrating.

I also don’t love that she’s called Queen Crow. It makes it seem like she’s only with Atticus and yes I know they have a deal but it still doesn’t sit right with me. She should’ve had a new name or something because I wanted Aodhan to be a part of that identity.

Overall, I do love the series. I really enjoyed watching her relationship with Aodhan flourish and just wished we got more with Atticus if he was staying in the picture. I’m excited to read any future Mounts Bay books.

I liked this book but I kind of felt like it was rushed. Her relationship with aodhan was great, but not enough depth of emotions with the crow. She was barely with him can't wait to see this relationship develop.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4. This is a fitting end to Avery’s trilogy that includes plenty of character moments with this found Family that will make all fans smile – including adorable moments of Illi as a new dad, another intriguing appearance from Nate, and of course some quality Avery and Lips friendship moments.

I’m giving it three and a half stars rounded up to four because the plot is a little too shaggy and falls apart the longer you think about it. Antagonists who have been giving Avery problems for three books feel like they’re dealt with too easily, and mostly off-screen. But just like with the Hannaford Prep books, I’m willing to forgive J Bree’s plots for getting sloppy in their third acts because her stories are propulsive, her characters are great to just hang out with, and her world is fun and immersive. That counts for a lot.

Aodhan remains an absolute king. Normally I’d find a hero who’s so nice and supportive boring, but he works perfectly for Avery and her story. Because there are so many other things happening in these books, if there was more drama between them, there would be too much going on. Plus, he has enough spice to not be dull. He’s the best.

As for Atticus, he still hasn’t won me over completely, partly because this book didn’t give him enough room to. It’s odd that he still doesn’t get much screen time. I’m okay with it since I prefer Aodhan, but “Queen Crow” doesn’t really fit this trilogy or book as a title. It’s really more “Queen Stag” or it should just be “The Queen.”

I do wish the dynamic with Atticus, Aodhan, and Avery was resolved more by the end. It is somewhat wrapped up, but a lot more time could have been spent on it and less time on Noah, a new character who's introduced in the 11th hour. I understand that he’s set-up for future books, but it felt like a disservice to Avery, since this is supposed to be the end of her story. And if I was a bigger Crow fan, I would be pissed that a new character got as much screen time as Crow did! As a non Crow fan, I shrug at his lack of presence but I’m vaguely sad he didn’t get much of a chance to even try to win me over.

There are a LOT of plot threads that are unresolved. Too many, for me. This book made a point of singling out that moment when Luca was staring at Lips as if he was enthralled by her, causing everyone to wonder what was going on….and then there was no follow-up on that. I know we’re getting more books about some Graves siblings so I’m not worried about loose ends with them, but I’m unaware of plans for a Luca book (?). So, I hope he either gets one, or this is addressed in someone else’s future book.

But why not address it here? Whether or not J Bree intends it, making us wait tells us that Avery's story is only important enough for crumbs, and the real meat will come later, in someone else's story.

A lot of other threads are left hanging (like their former classmate, Lauren, who was in the possession of the Crawfords. I don’t care much about her, but it feels like sloppy storytelling to make a point of showing her in the first book and never following up on that. We also never find out why Atticus had imprisoned his creepy brother in his basement instead of just killing him, or about the Lily flower killer or WTF Avery and Nate were talking about, or the Jackal’s missing BOMB, or....).

I’m willing to overlook all this because I like spending time with these characters. But at a certain point, when there are so many loose ends, this stops feeling like its own story and just feels like set up for another one. Avery and Aodhan deserve better than that.

Overall, this trilogy is a wonderful addition to the Mounts Bay world. And every trip to this world is a delight. I just wish it felt more like the story is confident standing on its own just like Avery learns to— rather than spinning its wheels for something else down the road that will focus on other characters.

I had to batten down the hatches to finish this one. I binged watch three and a half tv series before completing this story and even at the 70% mark, I thought about listing it as a DNF.

Boring. That's all I can say. Boring and unnecessary. To top it all off, J Bree insists on pushing polyamory on us in the form of Avery, Aodhan and Atticus.

There is no chemistry or cohesiveness among them as a trio or between Avery and Atticus. I don't know if it's the trauma she went through with Aodhan or maybe he's just the better developed character out of the two but Atticus and Avery just doesn't add up.

I also hate that Aodhan was reduced to the most chill dude ever because it's really more like he had no spine. This level of indifference is alarming. No matter what your daddy did to your mommy.

The overall storyline was weak and anti-climatic. I don't understand how Lips could clear Avery's board in a week. Something she was unable to do, even when the Crow wasn't recovering from a hole in his chest. I thought they were the information people?

As such, it begs to ask, why is she being called Queenie if Lips is needed to get anything done?

The storyline for Lucy also fell flat because tying everything in a neat Nate bow was not the solution and I still don't know the purpose of Noah, other than to entertain me. lol.

There were some steamy sex moments but most of it felt rote. I miss the inner workings of Lips and the guys and I do not believe that Avery has become this super marksman in heels.

It was just a cacophony of bad plot choices and a weak storyline.

I am hoping this is it for Avery's POV and I am not going to write off this series or the author but I am over Avery's life. It's not what I expected and I became increasingly disinterested.

Possible Spoilers

Well I enjoyed it, it was good. We also got a lot of answers to our questions and I’m kinda sad this is the end. For now! Vanth Falling is coming on October this year and I couldn’t be more excited!

Aodhan is still my baby and maybe my favorite between him and Atticus but I still like Atticus too. Avery is still my queen and bad bitch and Lips is the supreme for me (and also her guys). Noah (Lips presumed dead brother, he obviously isn’t) is my baby, I love him, I wanna protect him at all costs!

I want a book for him! He just stole my soul with his personality, snarky comments, fashion sense and the demon dick comment. He was amazing!! I need more of him, he feels like the lil bro I never knew I wanted until now! He was my favorite thing about this book not gonna lie.

Continuing, I liked the book though I didn’t like Atticus request to marry Avery, like where did fairness went man? I would’ve preferred for them to make a deal. Like they both marry her in a different type of ceremony or her to change her last name to Crawford O’Cronin. (Idk how that works in US so I could be talking smack)

Overall I enjoyed the book, the ending was underwhelming but I’m excited for Vanth Falling! So if you want read this book the overall Mounts Bay saga is amazing! So yeah, bye bye.

All Hail the Ruthless Queen Crow

This book picks up immediately after the ending of The Ruthless, reuniting our Hannaford Prep family once more. There is something magical about how they fit together and witg Queen Crow, J Bree establishes it once more.

Avery has so much development in this series and proves how she is willing to get blood on her hands for the sake of protecting her family and upholding their values. She definitely got her time to shine in this series and it gave me so much more insight in her character as a whole.

J Bree flawlessly brings all the characters in the Mounts Bay Saga together, giving us Easter eggs of past stories and teasing us for stories that have yet to be written. (The Tour Bus anyone?)

It's clear that this series isn't the conclusion to this family's happily ever after as it leaves us with quite an open ending. Avery's relationship with both Aodhan and Atticus is still tentative, as Atticus, who used to be the one in control, needs to come to terms with learning how to play with others. But to me this feels just right. People don't change overnight and Bree knows this about her characters, staying true to their strengths and flaws.

As always, this book (and the entire series) reads effortlessly. I love that the books aren't too big, but pack the necessary plot and relationship development without adding too much extra drama for filler purposes. I love that Bree knows what she wants to give us and sticks to her story.

I loved Avery in every other novel involving her character but in this one she just seemed to have lost her spark. The character she was read as someone else entirely and she was one of the main things i loved about this series.

Her relationships were fine, the only one that really developed was the one with the Crow but it took a factor out it since Avery wasn't really herself. There wasn't enough cute Aodhan moments either and they are my faves. The Crow is just annoying to me most of time; I do t like them together.

The plot of this book was not only confusing but missed large chunks of the action in favour of boring relationship moments with the Crow with most of the action taking place off screen and Avery not being a big part of it. The story may have been interesting if we seen it from Lips pov (which makes it even more apparent how she favours the characters from the last series) but this was Avery story. It was meant to be a dramatic and climatic conclusion but it felt entirely lacking. There was a few moments though leading up til the end that showed what the story could have been and Avery felt her true self in but they were few and far between.

In short:

The pacing was a mess, the story was boring, the main character didn't feel like herself and the main relationship focus was with the Crow. There was some good moments but very anticlimactic compared to the rest of the authors books in general, nevermind this series (which had been my favourite up till now).

Oh Avery, you queen! You never disappoint. I think the reason I like her so much is because she’s so intelligent and resourceful that there isn’t a problem this girl can’t solve on her own. The last book in the trilogy brings back Lips and her idiot boys which I was so ready for. It felt like it was as much their book as Avery, Aodhan, and Atticus’. The games in the Bay continue to pick the two new members of the twelve, old and new threats arise that need to be “on the planner”, and Avery is trying to navigate the two relationships she found herself in. Speaking of relationships, I only wish we got a bit more of the interactions between Atticus, Avery, and Aodhan. Or maybe I just wanted more of Atticus 😉, he’s been my man since the beginning.

This book also gives a lot of background for potential future books which I’m so here for .. specifically Devils story and Poe’s story. 😉 Another awesome trilogy by J Bree. ♥️

What I loved most about this book was that we didn’t just get Avery and gang politics, but (finally) Lips and her guys (and brother) back. All the major threads and threats have been solved, but what disappointed me a bit was that the villains got away too easily - especially Amanda, who played the role of a super-villain, would have deserved a bigger showdown. Some plotlines seemed pointless - for example, I never really understood why Atticus held his brother as a prisoner in the basement for years.

The romance part was… idk. Ok I guess. Aodhan is still THE perfect boyfriend for Avery, while Atticus is… not. He reluctantly agrees to share Avery with Aodhan, but it doesn’t feel like a real relationship to me, like the one Lips has.

Tbh Avery’s story felt more like a filler, which is a shame, I think there was a lot more potential out there.

I’m looking forward to the tour-books and the corpse in the freezer :)

Ohhh how I've been dying to get back into the world of Mount's Bay!! 🙏 After that ending on the previous book, I was so anxious as I knew what was in store for us in this book 🤪 the whole gang back together ❤ it was bitter sweet & no more bloody than we expected 😂 our main guys Adohan and Atticus didn't disappoint 🥵😉 although I loved seeing Avery manage like a queen without Lips and the boys there, it was sooo good to have Lips back at her side, the girl bond and relationship they have is out of this world. My favourite part was at the church 🤐 i couldn't stop laughing, picturing them all awkward as f*ck and how out of place they must've looked and felt 🤣🤣 it really makes me want to go back to the very beginning and pretend I'm reading it all for the first time 🥰

*3.5 Stars.

This is more of a series review. I loved the continuation of Lips and the boys’ story and am so glad that Avery got her HEA but the story was a bit lacking compared to the rest of her books in Mounts Bay.

I am left with a bunch of questions about characters and plot points and how the menage will work when her two guys still pretty much hate each other at the end. It honestly felt a bit rushed even though it was a three book series. I am also a bit dubious about germaphobe Avery allowing some of the sexual acts but that was minor.

Anyways, overall I still enjoyed the series but it was not my favourite.

■ Dark romance
■ Childhood crush
■ Organised crime
■ Why choose
■ Trauma bonding

I am obsessed with this whole world. Loved Hannaford Prep, Queen Crow….im calling it, it’s even better. I love Avery so much. And the men in this book ……SO GOOD.

I absolutely adore J Bree and she quickly became one of my favourite authors after reading Hannaford Prep. But I’m not happy with this book.

I have really enjoyed this series and following Avery’s story, however this book has been a bit of a let down. I’ve still given it 3 stars because I did enjoy it, but I’m a little surprised at how little of this book there was. It felt more like it should have been the ending to book 2… I’m not really sure why this was made into a book on its own.

Also, there’s no real dramatic ending… one minute there’s lots of enemies and then everyone is suddenly dealt with, with as little drama as possible. It’s massively anticlimactic. It’s almost like J Bree was just like “right, I’m done with this series now, let’s just wrap it up as quickly and easily as possible”. I know there is another book coming out soon about the tour, but I feel Avery hasn’t received a proper ending to her story.

This third book was very much taken over by Lips and the guys too. It almost felt like Avery was just telling their story through her eyes, rather than her own.

There’s no real HEA either… not how I would have imagined anyway. Not that it’s necessarily a bad thing, and actually it fits Avery, Aodhan and Atticus’s story very well. But, it does feel unfinished, there are still lots of unanswered questions about their relationships.

This story continues exactly where book 2 left off, so I would suggest re-reading book 2 beforehand. I didn’t and struggled to pick up the story again.

This is not the quality I have come to expect from J Bree. But she is still one of my faves and I just hope this is a blip!

Sadly not a huge fan of this trilogy’s end. The action in the previous book made me overlook a lot. 🤫🤫 This was particularly the case when it came to remembering characters and events from the Hannaford series. Even though it’s only been a month I had no idea who most of the characters were and scenes of their deaths and betrayals lacked any emotion or reaction from me because of this. While I could let the last book go because of the all crazy, I was so lost for much of this book, so much of the story lacked feeling and intensity. I really wish there had at least been a rundown of the previous series to set some things straight. I hated feeling so lost and I must say I really don’t love the end either. It had a very movie like ending with Avery inviting her friends and family over for a meal where they can all portray a happy but fucked up family also insinuating a happy but fucked up future. Feels like the last series had more of a conclusion than this one. I think I’m more irritated because the relationship between Aodhan, Atticus and Avery is still up in the air. They are making it work for now but their relationship is still not a solid unit thus to me leaves lots of potential issues open for them to deal with later on. Maybe this isn’t the last book? There is still a lot of story left unexplored I’m assuming for a reason but it would have been nice to have some more conclusive end to Avery’s story/trilogy.
