Her wishes are answered when the goddess, Artemis chooses her to be her champion, an ambassador of the goddess herself. She is made to study under her troupe of hunters, and falls head over heels in love.

Atalanta, mothered by Callipso, faces a Destiny given by the goddess Artemis, to follow Meleager into adventure, but her heart lingers with her teacher Britomartis & her Amazon love Diktynna/Dikte.

This and Outrun the Wind as well as How to Survive an Epic Journey by Tansy Rayner Roberts are among the best (and only) queer takes on Alalanta I have had the pleasure to read.

“Why must you run into the fire, Atalanta.”
“It calls me.”

this was lovely. my only complaint is that i wish it were longer, the story really felt like it was building up to something greater - but the author did a wonderful job of capturing these moments in vignette form and making readers feel the weight of both atalanta and diktynna's yearning, suspended in time.

A prelude story to Atalanta, the direction went a bit confused at the end but the whole feelings of it were very interesting.
