Reluctant siblings Sunny and Gil are persuaded to spend their summer holiday renovating their uncle’s shabby country cottage only to discover an invasion of mad campers in this back garden. Sunny McIntosh is a red headed, offbeat 23-year-old who dabbles in laziness. She has spent her life overshadowed by Gil- her perfect nerd of a brother. But this is her story- how she is thrown into hosting “the worst campsite in Scotland,” battles to restrain a fanatical sci-fi brigade and us desperate to finish the DIY so she can return home to Edinburgh and her precious Mathew.
When Gil is talked into spending the summer at her Uncle Clyde’s to help fix the roof at Crackers Cottage she decides to rope in her brother Gil and her friend Berta too. At the end of the day why should she suffer alone. What she doesn’t bank on is Gil inviting his girlfriend Romiley along too.
When the group arrive at Crackers Cottage they realise they have their work cut out for them as the whole cottage needs a good overhaul and it’s not just the roof that needs fixing. However, fixing up the cottage isn’t the only surprise round the corner. When Clyde ends up in hospital that's when the real fun starts. It turns out that Clyde had advertised the surrounding field of the cottage as a fully functional campsite called Camp Crackers with the help of Ambrose, who is currently camping out himself near Cracker’s Cottage. Ambrose ambitiously created a website making it sound like the new Butlins and now the visitors have started to arrive and Sunny and co no nothing about this. Then the hilarity starts and includes turning an old telephone box into an outdoor shower, turning the kitchen into the camp shop, as well as making sure that activities that the campers have signed up to are created at the last minute by Gil. Then thrown into the mayhem members of the OOUFU (Out of Our World Ufologists) who are convinced that Gil has communicated with extra-terrestrials and now stalk and worship him. Having followed Gil to Camp Crackers the OOUFU set up their tents for a glimpse of their hero and what better place to hold their next convention then within close proximity of where there hero is.
This was the perfect read for me. It was light, a feel good story with funny with characters you couldn’t help but love. The author has created a brilliant storyline including likeable characters such as Sunny, Gil and the whole camp crackers posse. I loved Sunny as a character as she has a hilarious sense of humour. Berta is equally as funny but when you put the two together it’s just hilarity instreams. Although Sunny and Gil are siblings they are definitely different. Sunny is quite chilled whereas Gil is quite serious. The introduction of the OOUFU was a nice touch as it added a whole new level to the book. I liked the concept of the book that the group go to Crackers Cottage for one reason and end up being drawn into a different and at times bizarre world.
This was a book that I thoroughly enjoyed but was sad when it ended. Whilst reading I felt like I was at Crackers Cottage with all of the characters and part of the team that attempts to recover Clyde’s car. This was one of the funniest parts for me involving a group of people some dressed up as their favourite sci fi characters (Chewbacca, Dr Who, Princess Leia, Daleks, Scotty from Star Trek) under cover of night on a covert mission. I will say no more about this because it’s definitely a book you should read. As a fully-fledged sci fi fan (A Jedi, Trekky, Whovian etc) this scene made my geeky little heart so happy it nearly burst.
I absolutely adored this book it had me laughing and giggling in parts. It’s definitely a book that would help with a reading slump and a book I will be revisiting again.
Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a feel good book!
#CampCrackers #NetGalley #LisaStewart **** spoilers ahead**** I was given the opportunity to read this book and I am so thankful for that. This book was absolutely perfect for me. The storyline, the characters and the way it flowed was just perfect. The story begins with the characters sunny and gil who are brother and sister. Gil had a experience which now people beileve he was obducted by aliens and has the cult following and sunny keeps him in line to not lose site of things. One day sunny gets a call from her mom to go help her uncle clyde out at the old cottage that they used to go to when they were kids. She says it is falling apart and it is in need of some repair and work. So sunny has to convince her brother to come. Sunny brings her friend berta and to their surprise gil has a girlfriend named romil who also comes with them. Gils girlfriend comes off a bit snobish and that she is a bit above eveyone else. This gets on sunnys and bertas nerves. Berta is not ine to keept quite so she makes snide comments from time to time. So they head up to the broken down cottage and it is in bad shape and they are unaware that clyde mother is there as well till the next day. Clyde had her hide in her room locked up until the next morning. So they see what needs to be done and talk about payment which turns out to be a classic jaguar. Since their uncle neever seems to pay them they needed to make sure he was actually going to follow through. See their uncle is a bit of drunk and comes of as a selfish man. So as things get on a accident happens and sunny knocks cldye over and he break some bones.he goes to the hospital and is there for awhile. People start showing up claiming to have paid for camoing plots there. Sunny had found a dude camping prior in the grounds and confronted but her uncle said he let him stay a few days in return for setting up this website for people to camp on his land. Well the guy name ambrose went over board on the site and set up things they couldn't fully deliver or did they? So whild their ubcle in in the hospital they now have theor hands full with campers, ufos fanatics, a house thats falling apart and much more. I wont give anymore because you really just need to read the book. I wanted to finish faster then I did but I have a two year old and college classes im finishing up plus wife life. So i would have read this faster if i had a few days to myself. It is a quick read if you got the time. I did not want to put it down. I really really would love a hard copy of the book because i really enjoyed it that much and I collect books but sadly it is archived so that part is a bummer. But if you get the chance to read this book definitely do it was such a fun story and I loved how everything turned out. I do wish the ending didnt rush up so fast but it dod tie everything up nicely. So again thank you so much for the opportunity to be able to read this book. I reall really enjoyed it alot and I think anyone else reading this review would to. So buy it, download, whatever you can its so much fun and just a nice soild story.

It's been a long time since I laughed this much. Lisa Stewart really has a talent for discribing hilarious situations and making them believable.
In Camp Crackers siblings Sunny and Gil are persuaded to spend their summer holiday renovating their uncle’s shabby country cottage only to discover an invasion of mad campers in his back field. This book contains everything from alien sightings and pet goats named Larry to loud Texans.
The fact that Sunny always was recognised as "Gil's sister" reminded me of all the times I've been identified as "only" my brothers sister. The book manages to capture the mix of exasperation and love this invokes in us younger sisters.
I enjoyed this book and the smile it put on my face, but I wish the ending wouldn't have felt so rushed. So many threads in the story felt unfinished when I had to leave it.
Short synopsis: Sunny McIntosh is a redheaded, offbeat 23-year-old who dabbles in laziness. She has spent her life overshadowed by Gil – her perfect nerd of a brother. But this is her story – how she is thrown into hosting “the worst campsite in Scotland”, battles to restrain a fanatical sci-fi brigade and is desperate to finish the DIY so she can return home to Edinburgh and her precious Mathew.
Sunny and Gil McIntosh are coerced by their mom to spend some of their summer break at their Uncle's house to assist with sprucing it up in exchange for payment.
Their stay becomes a comedy of errors/issues when Sunny accidently knocks her uncle off a ladder sending him to the hospital. Then, all of the uncles secrets start pouring out. The book winds through their time there along with a list people who weave in and out of the story.
This is a new author to me, and I throughly enjoyed it. Set in Scotland, the characters were great, a real mix - Larry was one of my favourites!! A really funny story, following a brother and sister while doing up their uncle's house. We'll written, great story, and very funny. I will be looking out for more books by this author.
Such a great book! You will laugh out loud at some of the situations in this story. Great characters written with skill. I finished the whole book in one sitting.
Radiant McIntosh is a redheaded, strange 23-year-old who fiddles with apathy. She has gone through her time on earth eclipsed by Gil - her ideal geek of a sibling. Yet, this is her account of how she is tossed into facilitating 'the most exceedingly terrible camping area in Scotland', her fights to limit an over the top science fiction unit and her distress to complete the DIY so she can get back to Edinburgh and her valuable Mathew.
At the point when Gil is convinced to spend the mid year at her Uncle Clyde's to help fix the rooftop at Crackers Cottage she chooses to rope in her sibling Gil and her companion Berta as well. By the day's end for what reason should she endure alone. What she doesn't put money on is Gil welcoming his better half Romiley along as well.
This was the ideal perused for me. It was light, a vibe decent story with entertaining with characters you couldn't resist the opportunity to cherish. The creator has made a splendid storyline including amiable characters like Sunny, Gil and the entire camp wafers group. I cherished Sunny as a character as she has an entertaining awareness of what's actually funny. Berta is similarly as entertaining however when you set up the two it's simply humorousness instreams. Albeit Sunny and Gil are kin they are certainly extraordinary. Radiant is very chilled while Gil is very genuine. The presentation of the OOUFU was a pleasant touch as it added an unheard of level to the book. I preferred the idea of the book that the gathering go to Crackers Cottage for one explanation and wind up being brought into an alternate and now and again odd world.
I totally venerated this book it made them chuckle and snickering in parts. It's very a book that would assist with an understanding droop and a book I will return to.
Would enthusiastically prescribe to anybody searching for a vibe decent book!
TRULY AN AMAZING READ!!! Talking about Lisa Stewart, she is an experienced writer with 6 books selling on amazon. I became a huge fan of her writing style and specially her beautiful book covers. All the covers of her books are animated designs and are eye catching. Talking about this book, THE CAMP CRACKERS, I don’t remember when I laughed that much while reading a book. I really appreciated the way the author explains the hilarious situations. The story involves two siblings named Gil and Sunny. They were tasked to spend their summer holidays renovating their uncle Clyde’s shabby country cottage. The story revolves around their journey of renovating the cottage including alien sighting, loud Texans, knocking their uncle from the ladder resulting him being in hospital. Without disclosing more of the story, I would leave upon the readers to enjoy it. No SPOILERS!! But I must acknowledge about the simple way of writing and how the story keeps you connected. At no point during the read I felt disconnected or bored. Will surely recommend it to potential readers and would wait for the projects of Lisa. HAVE A BLAST READING THIS BOOK!!!
Sunny and her brother Gil are guilted into helping their aged uncle with home repairs. Sunny convinces her best friend to tag along, and Gil brings his judgmental poet girlfriend. The four arrive at their uncle's house and are shocked at the sight of the amount of work that needs to be done and the lack of supplies or resources to get the work done. After an accident that puts their uncle in the hospital, Gil takes over the repairs and Sunny is left to deal with unexpected campers. It turns out, her uncle was advertising his field as a campground complete with daily camp activities. Eventually, a mob of campers turn up when they hear Gil is staying on the property because they believe Gil had an encounter with an extraterrestrial.
Very hokey and a lot funny, this book has a ton of word play that made me giggle out loud, and the events in the story should be completely bizarre to the edge of unbelievable, but they actually came off as too crazy to not be believable. (It is fiction book, but you could definitely imagine someone like Sunny getting herself into the situations in which she found herself!) Good choice if you are looking for something light and humorous.
This book took a few pages to get into. I found that the book seemed to jump in parts. Like we were talking about one thing, then it jumped and went on to something else, and it felt like bits were missed out.
I got used to this as the book went on and really started to enjoy reading this. Gil and Sunny go to stay with their uncle Clyde to help decorate his house. But everything goes wrong. Clyde ends up in hospital after being knocked over by Sunny. And unbeknown to them, Clyde has rented out his field to campers.
This was such a funny book and often had me laughing out loud. It reminded me of one of the Carry On films.
Such a lighthearted and comically book. The perfect book to read this summer for a bit of fun.
3 stars for me. I Will be reading more from this author.
Thanks to Literally PR for my copy of this book to review.
I was in a reading slump for the past few weeks, and this lovely story of Sunny McIntosh is what took me out of it. Camp Crackers is a simple, humerous novel which narrates the funny adventures of Sunny and her team including Gil, Berta and Romily in the Cracker's Cottage which include renovating the old country house and setting up a camp out of nothing.
I can't think of a book which made me laugh so much like Camp Crackers did in the last few months. The pleasant narrative style, the lovely characters and the funny incidents in the book makes it a perfect feel- good novel. The things I loved the most about this novel are the characters and the writing style which is exceptionally humerous. If light-hearted, funny stories is your niche, Camp Crackers is a perfect book for you!
Fun. Exciting. Funny. A joy! If you want to laugh read this book. A cozy romance with fast-paced action and strong characters. A delight. The best summer read!
